  1. You just can't go wrong with the Chuck Wagon Gang, uplifting toe taping music. Four part harmonies and clear lyrics. Timeless, classic style. Music that most anyone will enjoy. (this review is for the original group 1930s to 1960's) if Rose or Anna are singing you will be Blessed.

  1. This is a collection of songs recorded during the Cathedrals' most popular years. Unlike later compilations released by Homeland Records, these are the real masters, not poor copies. As a result, the quality is MUCH clearer than current releases. It's a shame that Benson/Provident won't release these old classics again.

As for the song selection, hits like "Somebody Touched Me," "Who Can Do Anything," "Can He, Could He, Would He," and "For What Earthly Reason" abound, as well as some lesser-known album cuts. A nice collection for fans of the Funderburk/Trammell years.

  2. Too bad one cannot hear a little of some of the songs. Especially good is "Movin Up To Glory Land" If you like harmonious, spiritual, singing you will love "The Cathedrals". It amazes me that voices and music can blend together so well. It makes you feel privileged to hear such excellent talent musically and vocally.

  1. Very talented singer, music has meaning and is relaxing and enjoyable.
Seems like every song has a story to tell. Backup music is also very enjoyable.

  2. Paul Overstreet is best known for his prolific song writing of C&W music but this CD also demonstrates his terrific ability as a singer as well.

  3. Paul Overstreet has one incredible voice. A voice that is very smooth and you can understand what he is singing. This is one of my favorite CD's by any artist because he sings about everyday life. My favorite song on this CD is Seeing My Father In Me. I definitely can relate to that song because I can see my dad in myself. This is a CD that any country music fan should have in their collection.

  4. You know! it's nice to find a CD that is so easy and pleasurable to listen to. Paul achieves this by his beautiful collection of songs. This is a CD to put on, ensure you're not disturbed, sit back and let the lyrics and music take over.If you are a father and listening to "Seeing my Father in me " does not touch you, then you are not human!

  5. I surely do agree with the person who said that Paul Overstreet does not get enough acclaim for his work. He needs more exposure so that more people will know of his wonderful talent and recoginize his name, knowing that when they hear the name Paul Overstreet on an album that they will NOT be disappionted in what they get. They will know that they will get true country with the warmest regards, but more than this they will be spiritually uplifted, and brought closer to God. Would like some vidios/DVD's also. Go Paul, you have a God given talent, use it, do it for Jesus! but always remain humble and give all the glory to God, who gave you your wonderful talent. Don't ever let fame lead you in the wrong direction. Let's hear more of Paul Overstreet!!! Yeah! God Bless your Ministry, HannahJane in CA

  1. I have this CD They'R pretty New and they gott lots of skills I like TR'Z and Motivate BUY IT!!!

  2. I have always been a huge fan of hip-hop and when i became a christian i didnt want to listen to the rap i was listening to. So i went on a mission to find good christian rap, well TUNNEL RATS are the best! The talent of these emcees is comparable to anyone making it big on MTV right now, its just a shame nobody hears about them. Look for the members solo efforts, Sev Statik, Raphi, New Breed, and LPG all have their own albums and they do not disappoint. Enjoy every this cd from intro to last track and dont forget to share it, make people believe in christian rap, show them other cds on my listmania as well.

  3. I got this album after hearing the opening track, which impressed me lots. I have been a fan of hip hop for a few years, but prefer old school stuff like Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa and Run DMC. The Tunnel Rats are the first new school stuff I've got, and I got to say they have the skills needed to improve the Christian hip hop scene. Great lyrical skills are displayed by all MCs, Big respect to The Tunnel Rats.

  4. What else can I say. The Tunnel Rats hit you with music with a message, purpose, vision, and annointing. The foundation: Jesus Christ. The foundation for mainstream rap today: hedonism. This product exhibits some of the best lyricism and production that rivals the best of hip-hop albums past and present. From Sev Statik to New Breed to LPG to Raphi and Zane - everyone who touched the mic on this production ripped it! And you thought that holy hip-hop was soft - listen to "2 Cents," "One's Who Do," and "One's Who Don't" and then talk to me. T.R.'z proclaim the name of Christ and His values with all the talent and ability that you've NEVER witnessed...It never leaves my 12 disc!

  5. You can't describe the TR'z 'sides rap veterans with madd skillz. This is THE crew. LPG are two of the best emcees this world will ever see. Raphi and New Breed hold it down like I don't know what. Sev Statik and Elsie can rap, too. Dax Reynosa of LPG can sing, too. Who'd o' thought? Dert brings insane beats I've never heard anything like before. This is one crew you won't forget. If you think this cd ain't tight, man... forget you. I'm from the dirty south and most of 'em are west coasters... but that's obviously irrelevant, being that these are some o' the greatest emcees the world will ever see. You can't dis the rats... period. Listen to the tracks:"TR'z" and "Bow Down." You'll see.

5 comments about Backwards in the Back.

  1. This CD is extreme fundamentalist Christian -- for example, the song Chicken Soup ridicules the theory of evolution ("You can make soup / From any chicken in the coup / But you can't make a chicken from [primordial] soup!" It's a weird album, as there are some relaxing, adult-style, less-overly-religious acoustic songs, but you also get songs with kids singing "I love Jesus." However, the ultra-relaxing "Backwards In The Back" makes this entire CD worth it, regardless of your religious views.

  2. I got a copy of this CD and it's great. I own all the other Alan Root CDs, but this one's not available new anymore anywhere. Alan himself only has one copy of this CD he told me (he appeared in concert at my church and I had the opportunity to meet him and help get things set up). He's a really neat guy, and this music is a good intro. The song "Chicken Soup" is a classic everyone loves, but I do like the newer version on "Fortunate Recipient of Another New Day" better. The rest of the songs on this CD, like on his other CD "Popcorn and PJs" are great for younger kids, whereas Alan's other works are fantastic for the preteen audience (like Chicken Soup).

Overall - Alan's a great artist and your kids are sure to love him. If you can get this like I did, it's a great piece of Alan Root history to own, and it's got a different feel from his newer works in many ways. Highly recommended.

  3. The one song--Chicken Soup is worth the price of this CD. The rest of the songs are cute kid songs that are fun, but teens and adults will enjoy the Chicken soup song. It gets the point across about the creationist point of view.

  4. Some great music for kids; catchy tunes and fun, interesting lyrics. My family saw Alan on stage this summer and thought his performance was terrific! I was hoping to find this CD on Amazon but will also order "At the Rescue of Me" today via Alan's website (at least the address is there) and where he has song samples.

  5. I think The Alan Root Music is terrific

5 comments about 31 Classic Hymns.

  1. The orchestration is lush and sounds real (no string machine, not keyboards, not computers). The choir sounds full but the lower voices could be a bit louder - a problem with a lot of choirs.

The songs are all sacred classics and despite the fact they have been shortened, they're still uplifting and awesome.

Compared to a lot of hymn CDs, I've listented to or sampled, this one is great. I'd recommend it to anyone.

  2. I wish I had read the other reviews (I'm not even sure if they were there, though) before I bought this CD, and now I can't return it because its been opened. As others have said, there are about 2 versus from each hymn, before going on to the next hymn. This is indeed a "medley" CD, not a full CD.

  3. Maybe this should have been called, "Medley of 31 Classic Hymns."

This CD features the first chorus of 31 classic hymns, but don't expect the full length hymns. Each track consists of one (possibly two in some cases) chrous of each hymn, beautifully sung with an orchestra, and each track leads into the next, seamlessly.

Just wanted to warn anyone who might think they'll be getting 31 complete hymns.

  4. It looks like several of the reviewers had the same reaction I did. Beautiful hymns, good arrangements, but rare to even get two verses from a hymn. How wonderful this could've been had the songs been unabridged on a two cd set.

  5. While I don't dislike this CD, I was disappointed that the hymns blend right into each other, without pause, with just a verse or chorus of each hymn. But, the performance is very majestic and reverent, so unlike contemporary worship today. However, you should know that it is an orchestra, and not an organ accompanying the choir. Also, there are no liner notes, so you have no idea who the choir and orchestra are, or even where it was recorded. I thought this was rather strange. Are they so ashamed of their performance that they don't want anyone knowing who they are? It wasn't that bad!
