5 comments about Hymned No. 1.

  1. I loved this CD. Milliard breathes life into songs I'm not familiar with and refreshes those that I've always loved.
If you are unfamiliar with his work you should know up front that the titles may be familiar but the songs have been 'updated' and have a more modern sound to them. This CD has achieved what the writer hoped it would do; introducing a whole new generation to some classics of the faith.

  2. When I bought this album, I was hoping to have a modern version of some old hymns. I guess it was, but it was mostly a country sound, which is not what I was expecting.

Bart Millard has great talent. He is the driving force behind MercyMe. Had he used that style of music in modernizing these hymns, they could have really been good. As it is, most of them were nice, but nothing great. There were a couple of exceptions to that. I think he did a very good job on 'The Old Rugged Cross' and 'My Jesus I Love Thee'. Probably the best song on the album was partially a hymn, but mostly an original that Millard wrote - 'Mawmaw's Song (In The Sweet By and By).

As this is titled 'Hymned No. 1', I'm assuming that he is planning to do some more remakes of hymns. I hope that he will do them more in the MercyMe style. One album of new sound hymns that I would highly recommend is 'Redemption Songs' by Jars of Clay.

  3. The more I listen to this CD, the more I love it. To me, the sound is a mixture of country, jazz, gospel, blues, and even a little classic rock. I can't wait for Hymned No. 2 - hope it has some other classics such as Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, and I Know Whom I Have Believed (three of my personal favorites). If you're looking for a good set of hymns that don't sound boring and "churchy", give this CD a try!

  4. Let me start off by saying that I have enjoyed MercyMe's efforts so far in their career, even though I don't particularly care for CCM anymore. Having said, much of this album misses the mark. It can't find its place; Millard tris to envoke a traditional sound and find a modern edge at the same time. As we say down South, that dog won't hunt.

For instance, "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," "Pass Me Not," and "Sofly and Tenderly" start out pretty well, but lose all sense of reverence and tone when they arrive at the choruses. "Have a Little Talk with Jesus" and the opening of "Sweetest Name I Know" are almost unlistenable. "Mammaw's Song" is a bit better, but it is not really a hymn but a tribute to Millard's grandmother. Still, it's one of the better tracks on what I'm afraid is a lackluster collection. "My Jesus I Love Thee/'Tis So Sweet" and "The Old Rugged Cross" are better, but are not so spectacular as to save the album.

I'm sure trying to bring a fresh angle on hymns is a tall order. However, if you are singing a hymn of reverence, a lot of drums and bluesly interludes like are present on this album only serve to obscure the meaning of the lyrics. There are a lot of hymns that can be turned into rocking anthems. On this album, Millard tries to force musical styles onto lyrics and ends up spoiling some truly good songs.

If you want a good collection of rockin' Southern hymns that are coherent and musically adept, try Charlie Daniels "How Sweet the Sound" instead.

  5. I really liked this CD... it's a twist on many older hymmn's. If you like Mercy Me, you'll love this CD! It's a little more toned down, but still has that unique quality.

5 comments about Touched By an Angel: Christmas Album.

  1. I bought this CD last year, when the show was still on the air. It took me a while, not being used to blues and so on for Christmas songs, but this year it hit me! Especially haunting is "Breath of Heaven", by Joan Baez - listen to it and you'll know how moving it can be.

  2. This is my favorite Christmas CD!! I thought I had lost it this year, and it made me realize how much it meant to me. I'm buying it for gifts, to share the joy!

  3. This is an album which has unique Christmas songs you might not hear anywhere else, but more importantly, it is an album which has meaning and which can be listened to all year 'round. It has depth and can be felt peronally, something lacking in so much music today. It is at the top of my list for all CD's I enjoy.

  4. Shepherds awakened in the fields by angles singing in the sky, wise men seeking a child in a manger, peace and hope in the miracle of one life, one birth, one night from which we count all the nights that have come since. It's hard to close our eyes and imagine it as a real event at all. This disc offers a few seasonal standards and many untraditional songs to aid in feeling an angel`s touch and inspiring heart. The compiliers movement between style, tempo, and spirit is with an aim toward truth. I do rejoice in reciting the modern-merry-mirth-making and celebratory orginality that flows from the mouth, here and there throughout and pleasantly out this disc`s delta.~~Merrily Mix~ 1# , 2#1\2 , 3# , 4#1\2 , 6# , 7$ , 8# , 11% , and 13$ ~~Post Script: For those in the Know and\or YULEtide Treasure Seekers get a X out and place upon track 11 "Jingle Bell Jamboree" a bluesy accoustic strummer from Keb' Mo'and track 13`s benediction***buyit*saveit*sharemost*giveit*donateit to the local library***

  5. This is a great CD. Any listener should not limit it to airplay in November and December. With the exception of a few tracks, this is more of a spiritual rather than a purely holiday album. Among its srongest songs is Wayne Watson's "In Such a Time as This" and Della Reese singing "If I Can Dream." Any fan of spiritual music and the tv show will love this!

  1. I bought this for my mom because her copy was so old that she couldn't listen to it anymore. She received it in the mail and has been listening to it nonstop! She is extremely pleased!! It's perfect ~ no scratches, no skips. Thank you!

  2. I think this is the most beautiful CD of Sandi Patti. I want to have it for a long time. I was very surprised to find it on Amazon.com.

  3. The product arrived very timely! It was in excellent condition! The price was very reasonable as it was coupled with another CD by the same artist as a combination sale item! There was no shipping charge as other items were ordered with this for a larger total order price! The CD is of a very high spiritual nature with very little repetition of lyrics with her voice being very smooth and melodic!

  4. I love this CD. Sandi Patti has a great voice and does a wonderful job on this CD.

  5. The music CD was all I expected it to be; however, it was necessary to play it at a very high volume setting since it could not be understood at a normal setting.

  1. I love the CD as for the first 10 songs; songs 11 though 14 do not play; there is lots of static in song 11; 12 there is nothing, I have to forward to song 13 and 13 and 14 songs; again lots of static. I would love to receive another new CD.

  2. I waited so long for the recording of Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! When it came out, I purchased it right away. And though I love the CD--the songs are great, I feel cheated that the complete recording of Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is not here. I don't quite understand that. Does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge about that?

  3. Since I was born and raised in Brooklyn, I have followed Rev. Wright for a long time. This album has a few of his classics, along with some new songs.

  4. This is by far is the best CD that Timothy Wright has ever made. Starting with the theme song, the music is vibrant and diversified, a real change from the usual Timothy Wright CD's of the past. As always, the New York Fellowship adds its flair.

If you enjoy true praise, worship, and testimony this is the CD for you.

  5. Not much to say. The songs are Wonderful, The choir is Marvelous, The musicians are Rocking. Wheather you play it at home, or in the car, "You gonna have some Church". Excellent traveling music also. The entire CD is GREAT!!

5 comments about Hide 'Em In Your Heart Songs - Vol 2.

  1. A friend recommended this music for us. My kids (ages 5 and 1) both sing along. I find myself humming the tunes as well. It makes learning rather lighthearted. Even my husband gets the verses stuck in his mind.

  2. So great for little ones to learn Bible verses to memory...good for me, too. Look forward to buying more

  3. Great CD! Every song is straight from Scripture -- not just concepts, but word-for-word Scripture. The tunes are all very catchy, and are varied enough to not be annoying. He starts each song with a reading of the passage and a little comment (a few seconds long) explaining in terms understandable by the kids what the passage is saying. Steve does a great job at incorporating several uncommon instruments in addition to the more standardarly used ones so that each song has a sound of its own. My kids absolutely adore this CD, listen to it all the time, and sing and recite the verses back on their own. I highly recommend this CD for families interested in teaching Scripture verses to their young kids!

  4. Both of my teens grew up with this cd and we all memorized precious scripture this way. The songs are for *children*, not rock-style grown up praise songs like are on other 'Children's Praise' cd's. Now I use this cd with my 'surprise' 2 1/2 year old! :) A must have in your music library!

  5. We keep this CD in our car and listen to it often. It is full of great music, easy to sing along with. Without realizing it, my children have learned bible verses. Vol 1 is equally good.

  1. I'm sorry, this was not one of his better collaborations. However, "He's Able" is awesome.

  2. Mr. Hobbs doesn't miss the mark when it comes to taking you away into God's presence. He's a true worship minister. The only reason I did not give this project 5 stars is because the title song is on the cd twice. I'd much rather hear another song rather than the title song twice (even acoustic). I bought 2 cds by mistake, but I decided to keep them both -- for my home and my car -- this is that kind of cd. If you like contemporary Gospel you'll like this project.

  3. As I have listened to this CD, and finally pull out the credits. You'll first see that Darwin Hobbs is now on TYSCOT RECORDS and not EMI! Hmmm, I wonder why, but that's just me being noisey. TYSCOT always seems to me, a record company that allows the artist to make a lot decisions in which way they chose. First, to understand the album you have to understand the background behind it, in Darwin Hobbs doing some house cleaning from the past by coming out about him being molested as a pre-teen. NE ways, you can do some hunting on the net for the story. I'm a supporter of Darwin's ministry and have 3 of his previous projects, and I must admit...I had to sort of adjust with some of the project. But after about a week, I began to CLING to songs like: YOUR GRACE IS ENOUGH (which allows you to pull out your bible and go over the promises that the Lord has given us...ex: Jer 29:11 ETC.)...and others like: IN THIS PLACE, (which has a breakdown that really pulls me right in the middle of the song..."there is love here, there is peace here, there is joy here, in this place...") and looked at the credits to see Darwin had part in writing this tune. I'm also really glad that he decided to put FREE, the acoustic version on this CD, it allowed me to enjoy the song even more than the original...as it at first seems too overbearing, instrumentation wise. But I love the song Darwin, if you're reading this! OK...GET READY!!! Cut number 6: I REPENT, is a vital part of this project. With an essence of the late Luther Vandross' style here. This will be a tune that will help our lifestyle of repenting. I appreciate the arrangement, strings...and the little or no rhythmn section. And I think that this album wouldn't have been with HE'S ABLE, which you can pull up and watch on youtube....YOU MUST HAVE THIS IN YOUR COLLECTION! Darwin we need a live DVD from you, with tons of behind the scenes interviews and commentary from you and Traci!

  4. Overall the CD is just OK and Dobbs is a Blessed male artist. I just wished that this recording was live like the last song than being studio recorded.

5 comments about The Collection.

  1. Amy Grant is one of the greatest Christian female artists ever. This collection includes some of the best songs of her carriere between the years 1979 and 1986. The only album that hasn't any of songs is Amy Grant's self-titled which is also her first one. However, we can hear piece of one of the songs in "Ageless Medley" called "Old Man's Rubble". It's a great medley, it also has pieces of "Too Late", "I'm Gonna Fly", "Walking Away With You", "El Shaddai", "My Father's Eyes", "Sing Your Praise to the Lord", and "I Have Decided". Usually I don't like medleys but this is one of the greatest medleys I've ever heard. The collection has many of greatest Amy's songs including four of her best-known gospel album "Age to Age" - "Sing Your Praise to the Lord", "I Have Decided", the peaceful ones "In A Little While", and "El Shaddai". I'm sure that these are the four most essential tracks from the album. "Too Late" and "I'm Gonna Fly" are live versions. It was an interesting decision to take these from live album - some may hate it some may like it. "All I Ever Have to Be" is a touching ballad but very short and meaningless - there would have been better choices from "Never Alone", defintely. "Father's Eyes" is maybe her best song! It is so touching, great, and humble. I like the album "My Father's Eyes" very much, and would have taken at least one more song from it. The three songs from "Straight Ahead" are all great! "Angels" is a funny-sounding song by melody, and the words are very encouraging. "Thy Word" and "Where Do You Hide Your Heart" are classic songs and defintely are great for this collection. "Find a Way" is a little bit simple song, and I wouldn't have taken it for this collection. "Everywhere I Go" is a good song but it seemed that Amy had lost a little bit of her energy with "Unguarded". The NEW song "Stay for Awhile" is a little bit boring and too long - a terrible opener. "Love Can Do" is a great song, remembers me from the early years! "Emmanuel" is the only song taken from Amy's Christmas album" - it's a good song. A good collection but I would have chosen some other songs instead of "Stay for Awhile", "Find a Way", "I'm Gonna Fly", and "All I Ever Have to Be".
Stars: Father's Eyes, Sing Your Praise to the Lord, Love Can Do, Too Late

  2. AMy Grants early work is some of her best if not her best. Nothing compares with her early pop/praise songs. They are timeless classics. Standouts on this are her cover of the song "El Shaddai" "Thy Word" and "Fathers Eyes." This CD contains 17 songs and is one of the best albums of the 80s. Some of the songs are a little dated but they still have that factor that makes them listenable today. A must for all fans of any type of Christian music.

  3. Amy Grant's music contains many great Christian pop hits. Her voice is superb. Many of her songs are classics.

This collection contains many of her all time best including such gems as these: Stay For Awhile, Everywhere I Go, Angels, Thy Word, Sing Your Praise To The Lord, In A Little While, El Shaddai, and Father's Eyes.

No contemporary Christian music collection would be complete without an Amy Grant collection such as this. I recommend it.

  4. Hi. This is a good CD, it's full of good songs. I enjoy listening to it. Amy Grant has grear voice. A lot of my friends has this album too. I like her version of El Shaddi.

  5. If you like the music of the 80's, this one's for you! I like this album more than Amy's more recent music (even though her more recent music is also great). The best song on the album is "Sing your praise to the Lord" which has a nice "twist" to it. I can really recommend this CD

  1. I bought this album a long time back and enjoyed the music, but lately have found myself listening to the CD again for it's great Christian content! Repentance and Faith in Christ = Christian PERIOD

  2. "Run" is a great song. Unfortunately the rest of the album is just a bad rock album. Nothing interesting, nothing new, nothing that strikes you as good. So a bad debut for Kutless, which makes since since self-titled albums usually turn out bad anyways. Relient K, Kutless, Lifehouse, all turned out bad. This is no exception.

  3. This debut album rocks. Bottom line. They are a credit to the Christian Community. Anyone who is going through periods of doubt in life and want some inspiring rock this is it!!!!

  4. Honestly their first CD did nothing for me. There is a few ok songs on this but if you want Christian Rock look elsewhere. Granted I've seen these guys live they put on a great show, and there really cool in person. It's still not enough to convince me this album was worth the buy.

  5. I love everything about this cd from song to song no weak moment in the bunch and while. It's labelled as christian rock and that it maybe. But that isnt why i enjoyed the cd from the first listen. I just enjoyed all the songs and each one was done with meaning and feeling that you don't get a lot of in some cds these cds. But Kutless, well that's just a cd that needs to be added to your collection regardless of what you think about "christian rock". They arent the same as TFK (which is more of rock/rap deal). I enjoy them as well.

But this is about Kutless, nuff said get the cd you won't be disappointed no way.
