5 comments about The Shadow of Your Wings: Hymns and Sacred Songs.

  1. "Grace and Peace" and "All Flesh Is Like the Grass" are two of my favorite Christian pop tunes. I might get a little tired sometimes of the olde English thees and thous (he sings a good number of the old hymns), but Ortega's combination of mellow piano and smooth voice are really good.

  2. This CD is my absolute favorite of all of Fernando's work. It is infused with God's presence and peace. As I went through a year of watching my son undergo cancer treatment, this CD was my constant companion. Truly worshipful.

  3. I just received this for my birthday today. I listened to it on the way to church and at first listen wasn't too excited, but at second listen I fell in love with it. I belong to a very litugical church and this album makes me feel like I am in church. It is a very singable album.
    I love it!

  4. Grace and peace to you from God our Father. A loving reminder of God's compassion. Most of the songs are reflective and meditative, a few are not and disrupt the flow . . . but otherwise a great album. So 4 instead of 5 stars. Still very much worth it if you're a Fernando Ortega fan (or even if you're not). If you like loud Contemporary Christian rock music, don't get this, you'll be disappointed. If you like intelligent lyrics, music that draws you to God, and sets a peaceful mood, you'll be pleased.

  5. Listening to this album early in the morning helps my entire family have a worshipful attitude throughout the day. We love the mixture of scripture songs and classic hymns. God's Word is powerful, especially when put to music!

  1. I just have to say that after reading several reviews from people who complained that this album was "boring" and that Plumb has "gone soft", they should be reading up on their albums before they buy then. This album is full of beautiful lullabies. That's what it was intended to be. If someone were to do their homework, they could find the information about why this album was written on Plumbs myspace page [...]. The intent of the artist was to release a lullaby type cd because she wasn't able to tour at the time and she had been thinking about the idea for a while. Yes, Plumb does have a harder side to their music at times and they are known for that. That side of the music is great as well. This cd was intended to be a lullaby type cd and when critiqued based off of knowing that, I'd have to say, it's a great CD. It's full of lyrics that talk about love for a child, protection for a child and knowledge that God ultimately has control over that child's life and will care for him/her. What better message, combined with beautiful, soothing music, could you ask for in modern lullabies???

  2. This is a beautiful music cd. It is so relaxing and easy to listen to over and over.

  3. Did Tiffany learn nothing from the last time she tried to do overly soft and sappy music, Beautiful Lumps of Coal anyone? I thought that album was hard to listen to this is even worse. I feel like its a nursery rhythm, barney, lullaby type thing, and if it had been marketed as such that would have been fine. But its not and I am finding Plumb very hit and miss over the waning years. Maybe it is time that the band (lone person) whoever retire from making anymore albums if the consistency and the overall sound that the band/person was known for is not there anymore.

  4. This is a wonderful tribute in song by a mother to her child. I loved it and am happy I bought it. I believe any mother's heart can relate to the songs in this CD. Great job Plumb!

  5. I love this album that celebrates (in a melancholy way) babies and being a mama. Finally pop music that I can relate to (it's been a long time since I've had infatuations & the like)

  1. If you're looking for some nice Christmas music this holiday, you've found it here. I wish it would have included a bonus cd of rock versions of these songs in the vein of their version of 'O Holy Night' that is on a different compilation, but that's ok this is still great!

  1. Loved the CD but the shipping on this order took much longer to receive. It was shipped USPS 2/7/07 and received 2/21/08. In the past, even withour Express delivery my order generally arrive withing a week to nine days when shipped UPS.

  2. LOVE these 2 CD's more than any others! Wonderful collection of excellent songs!! Great gift for any Christian.

  3. Easy purchase songs were online to make sure the CD was what I was looking for. Fast delivery. Very satisfied.

  4. This is some of the worst tripe I have ever listened to in my life. Listening to this made me want to stab my ears out. I can't understand how pathetic people are who actually find inspiration in this awful, awful music. I feel diluted having just listened to this. Please, buy this only if you are an emotional wreck. People who use logic need not apply.

  5. I bought this for my husband. He's seen it adveristised at timelife.com. It cost slightly more but I don't like the strings attached at timelife. It's a wonderful CD and we all enjoy it. I've loaded it on my 10 year olds mp3.

5 comments about Stand Out.

  1. Standing Out... is what we all need to do. The three Hebrew boys stood up for themselves and got themselves thrown into a fiery furnace. But they didn't burn. They walked around the furnace, with God inside; Flames so intense that they would burn you to the bone in 5 seconds. But God kept them safe and they came out of the furnace without a scar or burn.

  2. Why can't people just give the man of GOD his due..Tye is truly annointed. He may be cross eyed, But! He's annointed thru song.

  3. Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our Faith without wavering; for He is Faithful that promised. Tye Tribbett and God's Anointed singers and musicians hold fast to your confession for God is Faithful to do what he promised. This CD is promised to break yokes for it is anointed, directed to heal the broken and to set those that are bound free. I Love the CD because each song is purposed. Do not be swayed by man's opinion and "STAND OUT"........

  4. I had heard of Tye Tribett in the past but didn't really get into him until I attended the San Diego County Fair Concert Featuring Tye Tribett. It was there that I had the chance to taste this new album as well as the artist and Greater Anointing. Every song on this album I love...if you don't like the album or only like a few songs I challenge you to listen to the album over and over and over and over and you will soon catch on! Also attend a Tye Tribett concert if you can He and Greater Anointing have sooooooooo much energy and give you a show worth watching as well as a wonderful worship experience. This album challenges every believer to no longer remain in the gray areas but to call sin what it is and take a stand against it!

  5. I love this CD it is very inspirational. If you like to dance a bit while praising God this is a wonderful CD that will allow you to do that.

2 comments about The Voice.

  1. Gaither Band alumnus and contemporary Christian singer David Phelp's new CD is a take on the world of secular music, albeit a very inspirational one. This album's arrangements are reminiscent of what other "classical crossover" and tenor-pop singers have produced in recent years (e.g., Russell Watson, Josh Groban, Clay Aiken), only, as David steps into the arena, it is arguable that his talent eclipses the aforementioned vocalists. Regardless of whether you care for this genre or not (and frankly, there are a lot of songs I don't care for - more on that in a sec), what this guy does with his voice will amaze you from beginning to end.

There are several covers. "Angel" is a soothing and well-interpreted number. "Nessun Dorma" provides a new interpretation of the song that just about every classical crossover artist has beaten into the ground at some point, but here David covers it with a very different approach that gives it life again. "Angel Band", toward the end of the album, is one of my favorites as well. In all honesty, there are several songs I'm not crazy about. The tunes or the hooks just don't grab me, or perhaps they seem too much like the original versions and don't add anything new. However, Phelp's voice is a powerhouse on each one regardless, so the album still feels strong the whole way through. There were a couple original numbers on this disc; I'm hoping David's next secular offering will showcase more of them. To gain a wider following in the secular world, it would seem that less covers and more originals would be needed in the future. It will be interesting to see where David chooses to go with his vocal abilities.

One note on the title -- world-reknowned classical crossover artist Russell Watson has long prided himself as being "The Voice," and named his debut album after himself as such. His style is very reminiscent of David's. I found the title of David's album an interesting coincidence in this respect, though Phelps probably does take the cake for this title lol. Probably just a coincidence. At any rate, both sacred and secular listeners will be uplifted by this new disc. Definitely an inspiration to all.

  2. While listening to this album I found myself constantly saying out loud "wow, this is a great album." Song after song, he hits it out of the park. There is no disputing David's vocal talent (he's arguably the best tenor in America); but he's an amazing arranger and songwriter too. My favorite song on the album is Fly to You--it's a very catchy, folksy tune written by David. Nessun Dorma is unbelievable--and it's just what I've longed for, for so many years--an aria from David. I'd love to hear a whole album of arias such as this. Moonlight, Arms of an Angel, Angel Band--these three are each hauntingly, beautifully, exquisitely done. Overall this album is so pleasant and easy on the ears, yet there are several times where my jaw drops open when he once again hits those unexpected, seemingly impossible high notes. Ironically, this album is very spiritual to me, as much as any of his other albums. Although it's considered a secular album of mostly covers, you can see how thoughtful he was in the song choices--they are all cerebral and celestial and for the most part can be sung to God as easily as another person can sing them to another person. I haven't reviewed the lyrics in detail but as far as I can tell, Mine, Your Love, and Fly to You are about the Lord anyway--so I wouldn't even consider this a completely secular album. Perhaps therein lies some of the beauty of it, as it can go either way and can be a different album to different people. Well done, David Phelps!

  1. most of the songs on this album were really good. now I'm one of those hardcore rock metal people, so i didn't like everything but Kutless is definitely taking this is the right direction! i love how developed the sound is.

  2. If you've listened to previous Kutless albums, and then listened to this one, you'll quickly find out that their sound is different. It's still rock and roll Christian, but it has a more heavy metal sound which I'm debating whether or not I'm keen to it or not. Dying to Become, You, and I don't belong are probably the crown jewels in this album to me. Everything else is...well, not so. I like contemporary Christian music, but this pushes even my rigid standards to the edge. I'm not a huge fan of Kutless at all, but this album is decent enough to at least be jamming to on a road trip or my casual drive to class. If you like Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith's music better than Skillet, Comatose and Red and Thousand Foot Crutch, avoid this album. I think this album marks the first and last album of Kutless I'll ever buy, at least right now. I do hear their devout message in each song, but if you want something that could be played in a church, this isn't it. I do respect them for putting God first in their music, I just don't know if heavy metal is the style to reach the world with the gospel. Cheers to the three songs I mentioned that are a nice quieter interlude to the otherwise hard rockin cafe type Christian music.

  3. This was by far my favorite CD yet! The lyrics are powerful and uplifting, the music is upbeat, and the voices are awesome! I beyond highly recommend this CD!

  4. Kutless has some of the best contemporary Christian music around. This is their newest CD and it ROCKS! Praising Jesus with Kutless touches my soul- just listen to the lyrics; they are JESUS, straight up.

  5. The best cd kutless has made yet. they intoduce some great guitar riffs and solos(which were lacking in the past) with the usual amazing lyrics. this album just seems to mesh better and it doesnt get old.

5 comments about A Deeper Level.

  1. From the first track I was drawn in...just from Israel's declarations...all it took was one mention of scripture "the plow man will overtake the reaper" ...and it hit a spot that I didn't know was in need of watering. This cd has literally changed my life. It speaks to the broken places...even the ones you didn't know were broken until you listened to the songs. My absolute favorite is "Prayers of the Righteous"...particularly the end of the song that declares that God is miraculous...when I'm driving I literally look up into the sky and declare this to the Lord!!! And I absolutely adore "I Know Who I Am"!!! I love Chris Tomlin. And I cannot forget "I Will Search"...this was the first song on the cd that drew me in! "With Long Life" reminds me that death and life are in the power of the tongue...and "Say So" is definitely a jump up and down declaration powerhouse of a song! And, finally, I love the last track "You Are Not Forgotten"...especially the tribute to the tune from Bonnie DeBarge's "A Dream" (widely known from Tupac Shakur's "I Ain't Mad Atcha"). This cd is VERY encouraging and is great for those who are definitely trying to make it to another dimension in God. It has some traditional praise and worship, but is definitely a more mature approach to praise and worship...it is soooo evident that they followed the leading of the spirit when making this. I heard they fasted before coming together to do this project, and it definitely shows!

  2. Guess what,I'm listening right now to this AMAZING cd! It is a multicultural phenomenon! Who can not be blessed listening to this? Every song beatifully performed.Fantastic Christmas gift.Seriously I'm thinking of buying another so that I can leave one in the car.I read on the insert that this entire group fasted before recording. The results are truly amazing.Go ahead and buy it!

  3. Anyone who has heard any CD by Israel & New Breed knows that they carry a special anointing for live performances. This CD is additional evidence of that. It starts out by welcoming the presence of God into the time of worship and reminding Him that we know who He is. I say "we" because when I listen to this CD, I feel like I was there with them at the concert. It is "that" anointed! The next few tracks remind us not only of who God is, but of who WE are in Him. I don't know about you, but when I think of my human tendencies, I need to be reminded that God still thinks I'm special, that He loves me and that I can come to Him as I am. Thank goodness. Tracks like "I know who I am", "Surely Surely", "With Long Life", and "Identity" leave no doubt as to who YOU are in Christ Jesus. The CD ends with the beautiful acoustic-sounding song "You are not forgotten". Though the titles may be similar to songs done before, the song is different.

While the CD is very anointed, it still displays the talent of Israel & New Breed, as well as guest artistes Darlene Zschech, Jonny Lang, YPJ, T-Bone, and others.

I must admit, though, that while this CD is great, my fave is still "Live in South Africa". This one comes in second, though. I highly recommend it! I especially recommend it to anyone who has had an abortion, anyone who questions their gender assignment, and others who suffer from guilt about their past acts ... Israel speaks specifically to these things in "Surely Surely (Speaking)".

  4. Although not as good as "Israel and New Breed alive in South Africa" it is still an excellent effort. I have heard it argued that this cd was just a slap up, and that Israel Houghton needs to get back in the prayer closet before he produces more songs, but i would say to these people that they need to read about the production of this cd before they say things like that. The whole worship team spent time in prayer and fasting before diving into this "deeper level" project and it shows. If you cant feel the presence of God when you listen, its not the cd, its you. Because the hard work and prayer shows as they sing and face issues that people deal with daily. It is relevant to believers today, and has a diverse range of songs. Both the praise and worship is great, it reaches many different cultures and ages. there will be tracks on this CD for everyone!

  5. The product arrived quickly, in good shape and palys well. I would purchase from this seller again.

5 comments about The Blessing.

  1. John Waller's The Blessing is a well crafted set of ten praise songs that is
satisfying to the heart and soul. As a protégé to Casting Crowns lead man
Mark Hall, Waller has obviously taken cues from CCMs `most influential'
group. I first became acquainted with John Waller a few months ago while
listening to the Spirit channel on my Sirius satellite radio. His leadoff song
Calling on a Flood (having been in regular rotation right beside the other current
CCM performers) is a powerful and prayerful call to God to fill an empty space
needing spiritual sustenance. Having listened to all the songs through more
than a couple of times, I find myself returning to The Blessing (What an awesome
and wonderful calling we have to pass on the heavenly blessings we receive to
our family) , Breathe on Me, (the Spirit still breathes life into our every action)
and Love to Say Your Name (Try to think of all the wonderful names our God is
called and say them back to Him). I could see any or all of these songs incorporated
into the praise and worship of many churches, along with songs of Chris Tomlin,
Paul Baloche, Matt Redman and Tim Hughes. The Blessing is clearly a spirit
filled offering, anointed that others will be blessed! And while it does not have the
catchiness or craftsmanship of some other Christian artists noted, the listener
will connect and be ultimately pleased. *If you are planning to see Casting Crowns
on their current tour John Waller is one of the opening acts. I arrived right at
show time and by the time I was seated his performance was over! Be sure to
be prompt if not early to enjoy all the music!!*

  2. When I first bought this CD, I gave it a couple listens and wasn't that impressed. Now that I've gone back and listened to it again, I am enjoying it much more, although it still has its flaws.

This is the debut from John Waller. John was in a rock band before becoming the worship pastor at a church in Colorado. You can easily hear both influences as you listen to the CD. It's got the upward focus of worship music but has a light rock sound.

I could easily picture some of these songs in a contemporary church service. "Breathe on Me" and "Identity" are perfect worship choruses, for example. In fact, really, all these songs would fit that category.

Yet the CD is heavy on the rock sound. Even the slower tracks have heavy drums and layered guitar. Don't get me wrong, that's not a complaint. I dig the sound.

There are several tracks I love. I like "Love to Say Your Name" because of its focus on knowing God by his ancient names. "Sacred Pages" reminds us that God is the Rock we should be standing on. But my favorite is "Still Calls Me Son." What can I say; I'm a sucker for Prodigal Son songs.

The only drawback to the disc is how similar everything sounds. While I love it, the songs all blend together. That's what turned me off originally. By focusing on the words, I can get past that. But it is a serious drawback. Additionally, some of the songs, like "Calling for the Flood," seem a little trite and predictable.

These aren't fatal flaws by any means. This is an impressive debut. I'll be enjoying it for some time to come and look forward to John's next CD.

  3. I saw John Waller in concert with Casting Crowns along with Leland and I was overly impressed with him. I've listen to John Waller on the Local Station and KLOVE for the past couple of months and honestly I never put a name to music nor do I ever remember a song title. But, when I unexpectantly heard John in concert in Norfolk, VA I told my wife to get me the album - GREAT, Great, Great MUSIC.

  4. This CD is truly a blessing..it has a strong anointing and the words are inspirational..when I need a download of the Holy Spirit, this is what I listen to..Breathe on me, has to be a favorite..so wonderful that we now sell it in the Church bookstore...

  5. I ordered this CD because I'd heard one particular song, the title track called, "The Blessing," on our digital cable/music stations on TV. I was very impressed. The rest of the CD is great as well. The one song that has my heart soaring with love for God, is called, "Identity". John Waller is an awesome, inspiring Christian artist who expresses himself very well through music. The day after I got the CD, our youngest child announced that he was moving out, into a place with two other of his closest church friends. It tore me up emotionally, only because the two kids we have are now grown up and on their own and we're a close family, but listening to John Waller's, "The Blessing" CD brought me so much comfort. You feel the love of Christ throughout. The whole CD is very powerful and I recommend it to everyone.
