- Great way to introduce any child old enough to have a developed imagination to classical music. These stories are set to classical music. For example, Mozart's Magical Fantasy is basically the story of the Magic Flute only a contemporary girl narrates and is actually part of the story. The background has the music from the opera. It really captures the imagination and my kids want to hear it over and over again. They go to school talking about Princess Pamina and Prince Tamino. They make me wait in the driveway for the CD to finish to see how it ends (even though they've heard it 50 times. Vivaldi's tape is about an orphan girl and also very interesting. This is a great way to introduce a child to classial music.

- True, there are many stories on this set, but they are badly told and almost unintelligible with a lot of hiss throughout. I was very disappointed. My advice; listen to tracks before you buy to see if the stories sound good and are entertainingly told! All classics are not created equal!

- Can not stop talking about this CD! I absolutely love it and I'm pretty sure my baby does as well. It totally relaxes her within minutes of playing it, makes bedtime and naptime so easy. I have told many new parents about this CD and how my baby reacted to it. Very relaxing for baby and parents. Could be the most essential CD to own if you have a baby or young children.
- Didn't really work for us. The music was fine, and not overly irritating, but it didn't sooth our baby or put him to sleep.
Classical music actually worked better, and was significantly cheaper. Plus, far more entertaining for us to listen to.
- Bought it for my daughter who is expecting. We found it very relaxing to listen to and hopefully so will the baby. Love the warning on the insert.....Do not listen to while driving....yes, it would put you to sleep.:) Good music for meditating or doing massage.
- This CD was used in most of our childbirth and infant massage classes. It was relaxing but I had other CDs I liked better. While in the hospital, my new baby was lulled to sleep while sitting next to it. I called the hospital and asked what the CD was. Since ordering it, these CDs calm her when she's upset and she's been sleeping through the night. Every new mother should have these!
- This is a very relaxing, ambient type CD set to a background of soothing womb sounds. "Transitions" is a must have CD for labour and birth as it can really help a labouring mother tap into her body and relax (listening to it through headphones can amplify the effects). It is also a great CD for deepening mediation and calming young babies. You can't help but feel soothed by the rythmic sounds and music. This CD is money worth spending for any birth professional or expectant parent who is interested in adding another tool for relaxation and calming to their bag of tricks.

2 comments about Kids Sing Bluegrass Gospel.
- I got this for my kids, who were asking for music with kids singing. They didn't like it too much though, as so much of the material is slow. (Kids, at least mine, really like the faster stuff.) The other problem with this set is that the arrangements seem to be direct copies of adult versions, and in the same keys. "Man of Constant Sorrow," for example, sounded exactly like the movie soundtrack version, with the lead track erased and replaced by this poor little guy straining to sing the lead in a key that was totally unsuitable. It almost made me wonder if they HAD somehow gotten the rights and used the masters from the movie, else why go to all the trouble to re-record it, and not bother to change it to a key that worked for the lead singer's voice?
Overall, we were disappointed with this set, despite the fine musicianship displayed in the instrumentation.
If you or your kids are interested in hearing children play and sing bluegrass, I would recommend "Little Cowpoke," the first Nickel Creek CD, instead. The kids' newgrass-style picking is polished, their singing is very good, and the material is a pleasing collection of kid-friendly cowboy songs.
- For those who enjoy hearing sweet little kids' voices singing old time bluegrass gospel favorites, this may well be an album you'd appreciate having in your collection, but it has cons as well as prose.
The title, in my opinion, is rather misleading. Although there are kids singing these gospel songs, there are almost always adults singing backing harmonies, and occasionally melody parts, along with the kids. This adds an interesting contrast to the kids' voices, but I often found it a little distracting, as on some occasions throughout the set, the adult voices somewhat overpowered the smaller voices of the kids. This was especially true on the tracks where one child sang solo, and two or three adults added backing vocals.
On the plus side, the instrumentation, musicianship and adult vocals here are all quite nice. I especially liked the half dozen or so instrumental tracks sprinkled throughout the three discs. For the most part, the kids singing was very sweet, but on a few tracks, like "Crossroads", the singing was discordant at best. But remember, these are kids singing, so don't expect anything too stunning when listening to this set. However, on tracks where older kids sing, like "Tis So Sweet", the singing is quite lovely. On "Believe", the girls harmonize like little songbirds, and it's a joy to listen!
I think some of the choices for material here is, frankly, quite ridiculous. A little kid singing "I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow", "Red Covered Bridge", or "Rock Of Ages", for instance, seems pretty silly. I also think that the key choices for some of these tracks didn't suit the kids' voices at all, but that's getting pretty technical.
Overall, hearing kids sing these gospel songs is quite sweet and uplifting, but this set definitely isn't for everyone. After reading this review, if you still think you may like this set, do give it a listen. You may like it quite a lot, and you do get a lot of songs (37 to be exact), for your money. Cautiously recommended.
