5 comments about Schoolhouse Rock! (1973 TV Series).

  1. I always enjoyed the Schoolhouse Rock spots on television as a kid. Now my kids are loving them, too. My daughter actually learned her multiplication tables by remembering the songs on these CDs.

  2. Talk about old-school, this is the very definition!! I never get tired of hearing the old songs. The DVDs are great, too.

  3. This collection includes all the songs that were written for Schoolhouse Rock. There is a lot of nostalgia here for those of us who grew up in the '70s. I enjoy almost all of the songs, but the ones that were added after i grew up have less appeal to me. The Multiplication Rock songs sound the best, since they were taken from the master tapes. Most of the other songs were recorded directly from the cartoons, so they aren't in stereo and they include the sound effects from the cartoons. This generally isn't too bad, but I find the abundance of sound effects on "No More Kings" to be somewhat annoying. One other minor complaint: the "Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips" songs are too dated. Computer technology advanced so fast that they were almost immediately obsolete. But fans of Schoolhouse Rock should still get this collection. To quote Lisa Simpson, "this is one of those campy '70s throwbacks that appeals to Generation Xers."

  4. Anyone born before 1980 remembers the time when cartoons were only played during the day on Saturday mornings (before Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Toon Disney came along). Your Mom couldn't blast you out of bed before 7 a.m. on a weekday, but your internal 'toon clock got you up at 6:30 a.m. to watch Saturday morning cartoons. And inbetween shows, there was a brilliant little series of short musical toons called "Schoolhouse Rocks". Back in the days before Hooked On Phonics or Baby Einstein, these shorts taught multiplying, english grammar, history, and science, all set to fun music and cool blues tunes. In this clever boxed set, you get all four series on CD, averaging about 12 to 14 songs per CD. It's a reasonable price for a boxed set (around 45-50 bucks)and totally worth it! Even kids today know "Conjunction Junction" and "I'm Just a Bill", but haven't heard "Naughty Number Nine", "No More Kings", "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly Get You Adverbs", or "Tax Man Max". It's fun to listen to these songs and remember the words. I bought these for my kids to listen to in the car, and now a new generation is adopting them as their own. We love them, and so will you.

  5. My 3 year old grandson enjoys this and all the SCHOOL HOUSE ROCKS CD's. I didn't have such wonderful educational tools for my children so I feel so excited to be able to give it to my grandkids. I have found another CD set that we are thrilled about called SRIPTURE ROCK and ROCK THE WORD. Both of these sets capture and keep a child's attention and imagination and when used together, give any child a well rounded foundation.

5 comments about Mommy and Me: 100 Songs for Kids.

  1. I bought my first set used from a local ad. My daughter loves it, and I actually do to. During a kitchen remodel, we seem to have lost 2 discs, which is why I'm looking on amazon for them. There is some repetition of tunes, but that seems to have taught my daughter to make up her own words to her favorite tunes. The songs are upbeat, not overly saccharine, and pleasant even after the 50th time.

  2. My toddler loves these CDs possibly because all the songs are sung by kids. It really entertains and sooths her. Great for car trips and play time. A few of the songs are nursery rhymes put to music but most are classics and there are so many that you never get bored listening to them over and over again. Definately a good investment.

  3. These songs are upbeat and cheerful. Great for little kids ears. I haven't been able to find a better compilation. My kids love it.

  4. This collection is quite a pretty good one that even you will enjoy hearing, it seems to definitely have a positive effect on moods. I've noticed that even other adults that happen to be around while it's being played, hum, sing and sway to these tunes. The only two drawbacks according to me are, the music that accompanies some of the songs doesn't sound good at all with those songs and the fact that after the children finish singing several of the songs they make some comment, which actually ruins the end of some of the songs.

  5. Although it is a very comprehensive collection, I cannot speak very highly of the overall quality of this product. The tunes are very monotonous, it is the same bit for all the songs. I wish there were some variations to the tempo of the songs presented in this collection.

2 comments about Kidsongs: My Favorite Kidsongs Collection.

  1. if you know and love the kidsongs dvds then you will enjoy this. my kids are big kidsong fans and this keeps them quiet for long car rides. it's a joy now to go any where when we will be in the car for a long period of time. All the songs you know and love are here. the classics such as little bo peep or mary had a little lamb to kidsongs theme song are here. great pick and if my kids loved it then i believe yours will to.

  2. if you remember the Kidsongs videos and TV Show with The Kidsongs Kids this set is for you. It features music from all 24 Kidsongs Music video stories!!! Even if you never seen the Show or the videos your kids will still enjoy classic songs like Old MacDonald and Polly Wolly Doodle. The only disappointment is the that they should of included more songs from their Christmas DVD because the CD soundtrack of the entire DVD is out-of-print. That CD is one of my favorite Christmas albums. Also it has The Kidsongs TV Show Theme. It was not taken directly from the Show. It was Re-Recorded to make it longer. I wish they put the verson where The Kidsongs Kids ask the producer to use the studio and she says "You Got It!". If you have seen the Show you know what I mean. I wish the TV Show would come to DVD. Other than that, Awesome CD set.

2 comments about Listen, Learn, & Grow: Playtime.

  1. The music is excellent, with high quality sound. Not irritating as some classical music can be. Plus the tempo's are varied which is great depending if you need something fast paced or more slow. Best of all, the kids enjoyed it!

  2. How to gently insert a little culture into the grandkids' lives without Mom freaking out.....send this set of CDs for Christmas. Dad's into heavy metal and Mom, although she has a long history of listening to Classical music as a child, is now into Country. Nothing wrong with that, but how are the three little ones going to hear any of the Classics with Grandma living more than 600 miles away? "Play this in the background while they're having creative time," said I, "and see if they don't enjoy it." When I talked with them a week later the 4 year old couldn't wait to tell me how much he liked the "playtime music" I'd sent him. The quality of the recording is good and the variety of rhythms and tempos make it interesting. Yes they're a little trite and you're going to have to explain that the theme to "the Bad News Bears" really is Classical, but that's okay. If they skipped the genius of Mozart as an infant, or even if they teethed to "the Magic Flute", these CDs will give them a taste of a variety of good music and who knows how far into the Classical realm it may send them as they mature?

1 comments about Hello Children Everywhere!: 60 Favourite Kids' Songs.

  1. I remember listening to Children's hour on BBC radio in the fifties (introduced by Uncle Mac with his catch-phrase Hello children everywhere) and the music played on that programme is the basis of this set, although some songs of more recent vintage are included. I'm sure they would have been played on Children's hour if they'd been available at the time.

Among my favorite tracks are Right said Fred (a very funny song), Runaway train (though I'd have preferred Michael Holliday's cover to Vernon Dalhart's original), Ernie, Lily the pink, Ballad of Davy Crockett, Bring me sunshine, Nellie the elephant, Farmers in the den, Big rock candy mountain and Teddy bears' picnic.

There are some songs here that I regard as truly dreadful, but this is to be expected in a compilation of this nature. I'm sure you don't like everything here either but maybe your dislikes are different from mine. I'm glad they didn't include Long-haired lover from Liverpool (Little Jimmy Osmond) or Mother of mine (Neil Reid) but I was dismayed to find There's no-one quite like Grandma (St Winifred's school choir) included.

But I won't dwell on the tracks I dislike - with sixty tracks, most of them very enjoyable, this is great value for money. It will provide great entertainment for children, or for adults remembering their childhood. Among adults, it is likely to have particular appeal to those (like me) who remember Uncle Mac and his Children's hour.

  1. Three CDs with sooo many songs that are fun to sing. When you have mixed groups of older adults in with the kids, you will find the older ones singing the loudest!

  2. I have enjoyed this tape. I love the songs and the singers are great. They have songs I have heard and then songs I have not ever heard. I received this CD in a timely maner and it was well padded when it was shipped. I would recommand this tape to anyone who teaches children as they will love the songs and the music.
I would buy music from this company again.
