4 comments about The Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydeco Band on Tour.

  1. A fun live recording, complete with intros and comments to the audience by Queen Ida and her brother, "Al Rapone" Lewis (also of the group Zydeco Express). Zydeco--uptempo, crowd-pleasing and dance-oriented--is the black relative of Cajun music, driven by sound of jaunty accordion improvs and the frisky metal rub-boards known as "frottoire" (very fun to play if you ever get a chance!). Blending Cajun, Creole, R&B and other influences, Ida and Al stamp this music with their own throaty vocals and larger-than-life personalities, touring the country to introduce Zydeco to new audiences and share their enthusiasm for this slice of Louisiana culture. Check out the other releases of Queen Ida and her Bon Temps Zydeco Band, as well as the highly upbeat music of Buckwheat Zydeco, and the album "Chez les Cajuns" by the Cajun All Stars, featuring Michael Doucet and others. And for more good-time, down-home music, try also "Smoky Mountain Pickin': 24 Great Bluegrass Instrumentals" and "Rural Rhythm Banjo Collection: 25 Bluegrass Banjo Favorites."

  3. On Tour is Queen Ida's best work, primarily because this album contains "Frisco Zyedco" and "Grand Basile" on the same album. I don't regularly listen to Zydeco music, but I've never gotten tired of these two songs, and I can stand to listen to the rest of the album too.

  4. Simply Awesome... from the first spine chilling notes to the last foot tapping accordian riff, I have enjoyed this CD immesnsly, definately one of my top 5 favorite CD's! Worth the money!!!

  1. This CD was our introduction to Zydeco music! I picked it up on a whim one day. When my children were small, they would dance and dance to this music until they dropped. It is a great CD and tons of fun! Because the kids loved ours, it got ruined years ago, but now that I've found it, I must order a new one.

  1. find the albumn refreshing, relaxing and has been played at my dinner parties. Many positive comments. I would like to know if there is another albumn by said "group".

  2. I like this music a lot, but I can't figure out what it is or by whom. It says "Compiled by theSmith/Tucker Conspiracy" and nothing else. Played by? Composed by? Who knows? It sounds like music carefully composed and very well played, perhaps for a mystery movie about a bayou murder. Does anyone know anything about it?

  1. One of the first and still his greatest album. My comments are these: My wife and I are an older couple but we like to dance and we love Cajun music. In the late 80's we lived in San Antonio, Texas. For several years, at that time, Wayne Toups and Zydecajun would come and play their kind of Louisiana music at the Cajun Festival. The festival was held in a small country town called Helotis, Texas. The event attracted hundreds to a hugh outdoor dance and beer hall called Floore Country Store. Wayne and his boys played great music to dance to but what really made those memories last until this day is how LONG they played each piece of music. Every song had us all dancing for so long that we were both totally exhausted AND cheering--the more the crowd cheered, the longer Wayne and the band would play---they drew energy from us and we from them. An unforgettable experience. Thanks, Wayne, for the indelible memories, the fine showmanship and, most of all, those long-lasting song to dance to.

  2. I heard Wayne Toups and the Zydecajuns perform most of the music on this CD live at a Franco-American festival. I had never heard of him before except from my firends who like "Pure" Cajun music. (Whatever THAT is). They thought that his style was less than wonderful. Well now, that is simply a matter of opinion, eh? He is credited, mostly by himself, for having created this style of Zydecajun music. The best description seems to be that he crosses some bluesy and latin influences with the more traditional Cajun sounds and beats. The combination is fantastic to dance to, and great fun! Besides his own pure joy and talent, the additional musicians on this CD make the price of purchase well worth it. Rather than fault him for recording "One scotch, one burbon, one beer", I'd say that this cut alone is worth the cost of the CD.
