5 comments about Zydeco's Greatest Hits.
- I was looking for some authentic Cajun musics with good sounds and songs. this album is it 100%. Can't say enough about it as each song is perfect as to sound and song/
- This is an enjoyable CD, but I strongly recommend you purchase Putamayo's ZYDECO instead. It contains some greats like Geno Dalfose's "Bye Bye Mon Neg" and the Creole Zydoco Farmers' "Creole Farmers Stomp," which you won't be able to SIT and listen to. It also has Queen Ida's "My Girl Josephine," which is a classic.
Zydeco's Greatest Hits does contain some good, standard cuts like Buckwheat Zydeco's "Ya Ya," and another cut of theirs,"Turning Point," which is great. I also like BooZoo Chavis' "Uncle Bud." For the most part, though, the Putamayo disk will keep you hopping.
You may also enjoy Putamayo's LOUISIANA GUMBO which contains a variety of cajun, southern rock, and zydeco.
- I had only heard Zydeco music in cajun resturants. So when I needed a zydeco cd I had no clue what to buy. I just kinda chose this one blindly. It turned out to be wonderful! It wasn't too deep so for a person like me who was only exposed to it very little, I didn't feel like "this is way over my head!" My co-workers loved it too. I bought it for a work function. We just played the cd over and over and by the end of the day, people were singing along and everything. Really cool for if you just want to expand your music knowledge and taste to include Zydeco music. I good find indeed!
- Great upbeat music. Good representation of zydeco music. Very enjoyable. I bought two!
- Wow, Amazon, thanks so much for all the information. For people who actually enjoy knowing what they're getting, here's who plays what:
1 Ya Ya - Buckwheat Zydeco
2 Give Him Cornbread - Beau Jocque and the Zydeco Hi-Rollers
3 Your Mama Don't Know - Nathan And The Zydeco Cha Chas
4 French Rockin' Boogie - Geno Delafose
5 My Toot Toot - Rockin' Sidney
6 Hot Tamale Baby - Clifton Chenier
7 Turning Point - Buckwheat Zydeco
8 Uncle Bud - Boozoo Chavis & the Magic Sounds
9 Broken Hearted - Zydeco Force
10 Follow Me Chicken - Nathan And The Zydeco Cha Chas
Now that you can see who plays what, any zydeco fan should be able to comfortably identify all of these artists, and see that, while the songs are not NECESSARILY zydeco "hits", the artists are all zydeco stars. Other than the sad exclusion of Keith Frank, this is a pretty excellent album for its price.

- This is a reasonably good, if somewhat random, cross-section of Cajun and Zydeco music. Most hard-core Cajun or Zydeco fans will already have most of these cuts on other albums, and the randomness of the selections will not be fully enjoyable. However, for one who's just getting into these styles of music, this is a great "bang for your buck" album which will give you a reasonable introduction to many different artists and help you to find bands that suit your tastes more specifically.
- No question about it, the ten cuts on this CD are hot. Every tune is better than the last. You start with an Acadian two-step, mosie into boogie, and high tale it into accordion blues. The assortment of artists and styles is thrilling. If you can find a copy of this CD, grab it.
--Alyssa A. Lappen
- As a fiddle player, I envy the capability of guys like Michael Doucet and the Ragin' Cajun,Doug Kershaw. Their music inspires and this CD has lots of their style! Great stuff.

- Delightful CD of Cajun music. Every piece makes you want to tap your foot and smile. So wonderful to hear the music I remember from when I was a young child at my Memere and Pepere's house.
- This really isn't my kind of music. I bought this for my friend Nancy and she loves it.
- This album convinced me to be a fan of Cajun music. The music is very entertaining and upbeat--impossible to be a bad (or sad) mood when listening. All twelve of the songs are wonderful, with each one better than the one before!

- He has a combination of styles that I like - energetic zydeco with blues and old r & b - and he still does the best rendition of Get Your Kicks on Route 66 ever
- I have had this CD for a couple of years, and I just got it out the other night. Had to listen to it again as I wait for his new CD to arrive. Man oh man, this is good. I dare you to put this CD on and NOT get moving. This could be his best, but I reserve judgment until the new one ("Jackpot") arrives.
- Buckwheat zydeco has been bringing zydeco music to the massess for at least 20 years now and "where There's Smoke There's Fire" is truly one of his best CDs that is not a compilation. The production is perfect. all of the instruments jump out at your ears and the band is in top form. The songs flow beautifully from one to the next. The disc starts off with "What You Gonna Do" and just when you think your heart can't pump any faster they blast into "Buck's Hot rod", a sort of jump blues instrumental with one of the most blistering sax solos I've ever heard. The duette with dwight Yoakam on "Hey Good Lookin'" is excellent and their voices harmonize very well together. One of the highlight tracks is buckwheat's cover of 'Beast of burden." they slow down the tempo and add in some nice acoustic guitar. shoot me if you want to, but I think it's much better than the Stones version even though they are the ones who wrote the song. If you don't own any Buckweat zydeco CDs start with the "Zydeco Party" compilation to get a representative picture of his 80's sound and pick up "where There's smoke There's Fire" to hear some of his best music to date and be ready to shake it up!

5 comments about The Best of Doug Kershaw.
- Doug Kershaw has issued many albums over the years, a few of which are starting to show up once again in reissues. Of all of those recordings available, what is truly the BEST of the BEST? This CD includes tracks like "Diggy Diggy Lo" from his debut, "The Cajun Way", but also includes lackluster items such as "Jambalaya" and Doug's 6th (that I know of) to date re-make of "Louisiana Man", which would have been better represented from the version on his debut. Doug's music in the early - mid 70's was little more than badly executed Nashville product, although proficiently played, sounded like the assembly line that the town's name conjures up. This is shown in cuts like "Hippy Ti Yo" and "Mama's Got The Know How", "Mamou Two-Step" is a nice, albeit untruthful cover of a tune (no, Doug did NOT write it, its a traditional tune), "You Don't Want My Love" and "Sally Jo" come from the album "Devil's Elbow", which should have been called "Doug Kershaw Records Other Famous People's Songs That Buddy Killen's Publishing Company Owns The Rights To", and a Fats Domino cover of "I'm Walkin'", that sounds so stiff and lethargic that one wonders how it managed to make it to #96 on the charts. The CD contains a rarity, an alternate version of "It Takes All Day To Get Over Night" which any fan of Doug is sure to enjoy hearing. There's no liner notes, aside from production credits. That said, it's a cheap purchase, and everyone who might need just one Doug Kershaw CD in their collection will find that this one will suffice. For the LP listeners, though, go find his "Spanish Moss" LP.
Go see Doug live if you can, as no recording can do him justice.
- There are few artists that can get the fiddle to sing like Kershaw, but the best of Doug Kershaw should really be a lot longer and have some live cuts on it.Think of this as an appetizer. "Louisiana Man," with Kershaw's depiction of life on the bayou is a necessity for anyone who enjoys this type of music, and there is a good cover of Hank Williams's classic "Jambalaya" but the sound overall is very thin and does not do this artist justice. If it's all you can find it's better to have some Kershaw than none, but keep looking, you can do better.
- I have been a fan of country and zydeco for as long as I can remember. I actually heard Mr. Kershaw when I was in Louisiana not to long ago and I instantly liked what I heard. If you are a fan of country or zydeco, I would definately recommend this album.
- Doug Kershaw loves, caresses and torments a fiddle the way no man did, no matter where or how he is playing it. The fiddle seems an extension of him. Often though, recording fail to catch that wild man vitality you see in his live performances. Kershaw simply comes alive before an audience and feeds off their adoration, their amazement.
This is a very good Kershaw album, with all his great - but one has to wonder. One of his biggest hits Jamestown Ferry is not only an albums currently available. So strange, it's ones of his best works, where the fiddle is not taking certain stage.
Super introduction if you don't know the Louisiana Man.
- I have to agree with what Mr. Horek said about Keshaw playing the violin as though it were a part of his body. I was introduced to the only fiddle player I know by an old Country variety show that also introduced me to Donna Fargo. I bought Kershaw's earlier records, including Devil's Elbow, Louisana Man, Mama Kershaw's Boy, Doug Kershaw and Douglas James Kershaw. This CD has some of the pieces I always enjoyed, especially Jambalaya and Mama's got the Know How. It does not have Devil's Elbow, though, or another favorite of mine, Best Years of My Life. Still, it is nice to hear the better quality of the CD than my old, scratchy records. I might add my roommate and I were very fortunate to be at the Pima County Fair (in Tucson, AZ) the year he performed live. Oh, what an experience to see such an energetic, energized and talented musician in person!!

- Buckwheat's catchy cajun riffs and sharp lyrics will definetly get your mojo working. A solid album from front to back with some cool/funky instrumentals thrown in the mix. The one and only zydeco album that I ever wanted to steal from my old roommate.

1 comments about Zydeco Stomp: All Instrumental.
- This is one of the CD's I usually recommend to folks either wanting to start out on a zydeco collection, or as guaranteed hit if giving as a gift. Its hard to miss with this on.
Zydeco lyrics can sometimes be less enjoyable than the infectious music itself, so in this case, that layer is removed.
This is a good cross-section of the better Zydeco performers out there. Whoever picked this selection of songs knew what they were doing.
My favorite is "Blues in June" by Rockin' Sidney. Its a slow blues tune, unlike most of the others, but is definitely a keeper that I might not have run across otherwise.
