5 comments about And Through It All: Robbie Williams Live 1997-2006.
- These double DVDs contain almost all his hits LIVE from his first album "life thru a lens" to the first single "Rudebox" of his latest album "Rudebox".
The only flaw of the DVDs is the interactive menu, it's kinda not so user friendly, and both DVDs have a different interactive format, in addition no track list on the back cover, and this really sucks.
Other than that i think it should be a have must for all Robbie's fans out there.....
- Robbie Williams is an extremely talented artist. With tens of millions of albums sold worldwide, it is pretty difficult to dispute that. What blows you away, though, is his showmanship...and that showmanship takes center stage in this DVD set. Every single song on these DVDs exemplifies Robbie's stage presence and talent as an entertainer, and they show why he is a mega star in, seemingly, every country other than here in the States. With over 50 songs, this set contains roughly 4 hours of Robbie goodness, spanning the first 10 years of his career as a solo artist.
This two-DVD set is of very high quality. A great deal of care seems to have gone into its production, with widescreen format throughout and with 5.1 sound in two different formats available. From the menu design (which is incredible art in of itself) to the actual footage, every scene just looks gorgeous. There also is a great deal of hidden gems on each DVD. Allowing a disc to play from beginning to end only gives you about half of the songs - you have to find the rest, which may frustrate some, but I found it to be a very novel approach. Some of the best performances are tucked away here in the hidden sections, so be sure to look for them. The packaging also is quite nice with a very cool full-color photo album (more than 26 pages).
I am pleasantly surprised to see this set not only available in the States but in NTSC format nonetheless. Robbie fans here need not worry about whether or not this DVD will work in your player - it will.
This is one of the nicest live concert montages that I have ever seen. It very much was well worth the money to me. I think it will be for you, too. Get a copy or two...and get a few for your fellow Robbie fans. They'll thank you.
- This is an AMAZING compilation of great songs and superb live performances of Robbie's filmed throughout the years at his concerts. I recommend this DVD to anyone (actually there are 2 DVD's included) to anyone who wants to see an energetic and awesome live show. A MUST purchase for anyone who is a Robbie Williams Fan!
- i like very much this DVD, before i bought "what we did last summer" and I thought it was the best concert film before, but this new DVD really rocks!...
- "a must have for all Robbie fans" - of course. the best part of this is that is shows some of his NEWEST Close Encounter Tour and even a recording of "Rudebox". The most interesting was the recording of Robbie on the David LEtterman show. Most of the stuff on here can be found on other Robbie released DVDs, but the newest stuff and these TV appearances on here can not be found anywhere else. TONS of stuff....great deal. I've bought boot-leg DVDs on eBay that folks have made, compiling other DVD performances into one, and I'm so glad Robbie has officially done this now. GREAT DVD.

- I was introduced to Doves with this album so maybe I'm biased, but this is not only Doves best album (as of June 2008) but also one of the best albums of the early 2000s. A mix of Pink Floyd and Coldplay is the best way I describe it to friends. Just great music.
- I personally love this album. The faster tracks have good energy, and the slower ones are where sad meets psychedelic. this whole album just has a great feel to it. It has songs you can jam to and songs that take your mind elswhere. Overall, I recommend it.
- To me this is their best album so far ( 2007). It's absolutely incredible. After falling head over heel for this one I bought their other albums and although they're good they don't match the quality of this one, for me. This is a perfect album, no dud and plenty of full force space rock. The vocals are amazing and the sound is grandiose. I'll be enjoying this one for years.
- A great album from a band that hasn't even begun to hit their stride! If I were to make a list of the cd's that I would take with me to a deserted island, this cd would be near the top.
- Dull and uninspiring, listening to this CD I couldn't see what distinguished the Doves from the other insipid sound-a-like bands that plague the modern music scene. If you like The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers then be grateful that they've saved rock music from boring dross like this!

- I love the song TENANT the whole cd is great but that song I can never get tired of. Its got a spooky quietness about it and the guitar pluckings are the best part. You can't go wrong with this. Anyone even curious about this band needs to start with this. The first two albums were more straightforward punk with goth overones. This is were they matured that sound, a must have for post punk fans then get JUJU!!
- As an avid Siouxsie fan, I love everything by this group. Kaleidoscope is the first album showcasing a completely different sound, setting and theme than the previous Banshees albums. Here is the definitive Siouxsie creating a sound that was and is their own. Kaleidoscope on vinyl was an excellent listen to in 1980 when it was released, and sounds even better today remastered.
-
This has been one of my favorite albums period, and if I had to pick one favorite Siouxsie and the Banshees album, this one just barely wins out over "The Scream" and "Juju", although both of those are excellent, and "Kiss in the Dreamhouse" deserves honorable mention. If you know Siouxsie and the Banshees at all, then I'm sure you know the two singles "Happy House" and "Christine", and they are reason enough to buy it. Really the whole album is very strong, with the exception of "Clockface", which is filler but inoffensive and short. "Christine" is driven by a great bass line and acoustic guitar, with icy vocals from Siouxsie, dealing with a Sybil-like split personality. This album represents a huge leap musically from the artsy punk of the first two albums. There is much wider variety of sonic textures, rhythms, and instrumentation. Drum machines and synth bass are prominent in the bleak "Lunar Camel" and "Red Light", the latter also using a camera shutter sound for rhythm. "Hybrid" and "Paradise Place" have a psychedelic feel to them. "Tenant" is another sparse, bleak. experimental track that is very effective. "Desert Kisses" has a more lush sound with a great vocal by Siouxsie. Only the last track, "Skin" is reminiscent of the sound from the first album, `The Scream", with a more manic feel to it.
Siouxsie and the Banshees often get pigeon-holed into the "Goth" stereotype. Certainly none of these songs fall in the "cheery" or "chipper" category, but, as this album demonstrates, these guys were far more varied and gifted than any of numerous Goth posers that followed them.
- It's hard for me to think of Siouxsie & the Banshees as post-punk or goth. From the very start there has always been a pop sensibility of the post punk approach to their music. With Kaleidoscope, Siouxsie & the Banshees embrace both never looking back, melding poppy synthesizers and drum machines with punk guitar and bass riffs.
Kaleidoscope is very, very psychedelic like the images you see when looking through a kaleidoscope. Colorful, shifting, fractured, mesmerizing. This is the only S&TB in which EVERY track is as brilliant and fascinating as the last. No filler here at all.
I find with every Siouxsie album there's always one unheard hidden gem for me that stands out. On A Kiss In The Dreamhouse it's Circle. On Hyaena it's Belladonna. Peepshow it's Turn To Stone. On Kaleidoscope it's Lunar Camel. This synth and drum machine driven track is trip-hop before there was trip-hop which proves how adventurous, experimental, influential and ahead of their time S&TB were.
Other favorites are Happy House and Christine of course but also the short but sweet Clockface with Siouxise singing "Wo -oh-wo-oh" over an infectious rock beat. Red Light with its camera snapping effects and Paradise Place, especially when Siouxsie sort of yodels and coos.
Kaleidoscope is the quintessential Siouxsie album and the perfect place for any one new to the band to start. The remastered version of this disc has Siouxsie's voice a bit higher in the mix, the echo effects are smoothed out and all the instruments can clearly be heard. It also contains demo tracks of Christine, Happy House, Paradise Place, an instrumental Lunar Camel called Arabia, Eve White/Eve Black, Desert Kisses, Hybrid, an awesome unreleased instrumental track called Sitting Room and the 7" single version of Israel.
Hands down tied with A Kiss In The Dreamhouse as my all time favorite Siouxsie album.
- This is a good album and it feels like a transitional album. "Juju" and "Join Hands" and more of the "Goth/Hitchcockian" style while this album leads up more to their "commercial/slo-dive" type style. There are enough songs on it to make it worth having ("Red Light" one of my least favorites). So...what CAN I say? Buy it! Afterall, it IS Siouxsie and the Banshees for God's sake.

5 comments about The Verve EP.
- REMINDS ME OF PINK FLOYD'S UMMAGUMMA AND ATOM HEART MOTHER (ONLY THE SPACY SECTIONS)
Released in 1992, this is the Verve's first significant release. It is an EP and is only 30 minutes long (I generally knock down EP's by a star, because they aren't good values).
This is churning guitar driven space rock. It reminds of the spacier parts of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother. However it has more of an ambient sound.
The music here is a lot like the Verve's first full length album, A Storm in Heaven (although that one is more along the lines of Pink Floyd's More).
The only real problem with this EP is that it is not very distinctive and sounds a lot like A Storm In Heaven. I played this CD right after A Storm In Heaven, and thought that I accidently played the same CD twice. I had to back and check the CD's and the song titles to see that they were actually different. That is why I only give this 3 stars. It is short and not essential. You could get A Storm in Heaven and have a lot more of the same.
The Verve (not to be confused with Verve Pipe) lasted about 6 years. They put out 3 full length CD's and a ton of EP's. I have a CD compilation where the band was going accoustic and singing actual songs! It is not very good.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT FRANCIS MONKMAN, JAM. THE MUSIC IS SIMILAR, ONLY A LITTLE HARDER (AND I THINK A LITTLE BETTER).
- Assuming you have Storm in Heaven and/or Urban Hymns - you NEED this album. The excerpts do not do justice to this EP-that-feels-epic. Storm in Heaven was very atmospheric, dreamy... but 4 out of the 5 songs here - except A Man Called Sun - BUILD UP.
Gravity Grave, She's a Superstar, Endless Life, and Feel are simply amazing songs created by the band and produced by Barry Clempson. (It has an autumn-feel to it.)
In short, at a little over 30 minutes this EP is never tiresome to listen to every year.
- Verve were one of the most overlooked bands of the enitre decade. America only took notice of the wigan quartet when they would go on to release their Bitter Sweet Symphony single and album Urban Hymns. In that time Verve amassed a catalogue that in my opinion, is the greatest of all time. There's no other artist in history that matters or means as much as Verve. This EP is a great start, in fact I would advise any newcomers to the band to start right here and progress forward, because each album in their discography exudues self awareness and confidence in changing sounds and you would be better off starting at the beginning.
Here's what you'll get in alll
Gravity Grave - It's an epic recodring, with the trance-like bassline that Simon Jones gets into its clearly a danceable song. Nick Mccabe brings in the brilliant use of his guitar to full effect, with delay and reverb in tow. The overall sound of the guitarwork is incredible, i can't imagine a better guiotar player ever in history then Nick Mccabe. Also, the lyrics are just heavenly, "to me you're like a setting sun, you rise then you're gone." Richard Ashcroft again dazzles me with his vocals which are insanely perfect.
A Man Called Sun - Another brilliant track, this song is a clear example of the brilliant work that Nick Mccabe can do with a minimalistic approach. Richard Ashcroft sings with a silenced voice, he does that a lot on earlier Verve recording such as this and A Storm In Heaven, it adds to the atmosphere.
She's a Superstar - This is pure cosmic bliss. In a perfect world people would have been listening to this slow, surreal ballad instead of the grunge rock music. This is a gorgeous song full of beauty in shiny guitars and again vocals that are just epic. This isn't just a record, its already a classic, beating out anything before it and anything afterward.
Endless Life - A beautiful atmospheric tone introduces the song and takes you into a meditative state. The song gradually builds up to a climax and Verve are taking us for one wild journey. Rochard Ashcroft is singing very muted almost, but it adds once again to the aurreal effect, like it's happening before you and you're a part of it all.
Feel - The closing song is over 10 minutes in length, and incredible song in it's own right. The beautiful shimmer of Nick Mccabes gutiar work still clearly evident. Also the brilliant use of the id section where a funnel of feedback is sed to introduce the end, it just shows how experiemtnal this band was in their make- up.
Clearly put, the greatest EP release ever and a classic none can top, this is except for Verve.
- "A Man Called Sun" may be the best produced song ever. Previously "Riders On The Storm" by The Doors got my vote, but this song is just about perfect.
- I love the last two songs ENDLESS LIFE and FEEL. Lyrics didnt really mean a thing to Verve at this time. They were just used as another instrument to compliment the atmosphere of the music. Using pauses, drawing out words flow like the guitar. I really like the drumming on FEEL, it has a hypnotic quality that draws you in and keeps your head bobbing. the song is 10 and half minutes long but it goes by fast. A MAN CALLED SUN is very spooky and very good.

- That an album could contain both the elegant, droning psychedelia of "Walkin' With Jesus" and the aggressive and vitriolic grind of "Things'll Never Be the Same" is a testament to the force and range of Spacemen 3. Starts out frenetic with "Take Me to the Other Side" (which contains a piece of a riff lifted from AC/DC of all bands!) before settling into an extended hypnotic and dreamy phase propelled by "Transparent Radiation" and the "Jesus" track, as well as a few others. Then the mood is flipped over, going from on-the-back relaxing to on-the-belly punishment as "Things'll Never Be the Same" turns sinister and violent. What once was the sound of acid becomes the noise of heroin (quite literally, as "Things" makes intentionally unsubtle references to spiking).
The whole thing is clearly influenced by 60s pop and the drug culture of the very same era. "Come Down Easy" especially sounds like a cover from the time (if not for the lyrics containing the year of 1987). Most fans consider this their masterpiece (but Playing With Fire, being both artier and heavier, is the superior effort). Although they clearly owe a tremendous debt to Velvet Underground (fans of them should love this), they were already starting to craft their own personal sound. Later reissues would add various singles from the era, which are good, but best separated from the album as only singles.
Best cuts: "Walkin' With Jesus," "Come Down Easy," "Things'll Never Be the Same," "Ecstasy Symphony/Transparent Radiation (Flashback)," "Take Me to the Other Side," "Feel So Good"
- There must be a conspiracy against me... because I really thought that I missed nothing... yet - there is this really big elephant in the middle of my living room named "Spacemen 3."
How I could have completely missed this band when I had already investigated the periphery of this genre so completely really thwarts me.
anyway, better in 2007 than never I suppose. I heard this in my favorite CD store a few weeks ago and instantly bought it - I have retroactivated my love for this band to 1980 something and they have been in my heart all along - I just didn't know them.
If you are secure enough to admit that you missed them also - just buy it.
- Amazing. Simply, astoundingly, amazing. Listening to this is an epic, truly awesome adventure in sound. Equal parts Beatles and Velvet Underground, Spacemen 3 iron out SOLID rock jams with heavy 60's inspiration. It is a spiritual and deep album that evokes a mystical "sensuality that I can't explain."
Highlights include the stunning violin work on "Transparent Radiation" and the jazzy, chilled out trumpets on "Feel So Good." Albums like this are refreshing in the extreme... it gets back to some of the original inspirations.
Stands up to heavy rotation. A great album for summer. If you like this, you might like:
Lemon Jelly
Spiritualized
King Tubby
Tristeza
Dead Meadow
- This is not a comment about the two bands' vinyl output but a comment on their live performances and thus a comment on the differences betwen the two bands. I saw Spacemen 3 play at The Town and Country Club in Kentish Town (London). When we arrived we were a litle late because, in that era, to get anything done usually took a very long time. Anyway, the Spacemen were already playing. Playing is not really the term for it as all three were sitting down on tall stools and seemingly in their own worlds, noodling away on their respective instruments. I remember being somewhat taken aback but soon forgot this as I got down with my girlfriend and what we'd brought to the club. I don't remember the gig.
A few years later down the drug abuse trail and I'd taken a few lessons from my heroes. Spiritualized was playing junkie music so the best way to experience their music was to be on the same wavelength. Right? Consequently, at The Albert Hall I fell asleep and only woke up to the more rockier numbers (they have some?)before falling back into my golden slumbers. I had a lovely time but do I remember the gig?
So: Spacemen 3 didn't send you to sleep because they were already asleep. Spiritualized have never woken up(although "Amazing Grace" may be in the process of wakening up).
P.S. At the time Spacemen 3 were linked with Loop and Thee Hypnotics. Anyone remember them and the excellent Treworgy debacle of a festival?
- Transcendent bliss that takes you way up before you crash hard. . . . Essential.

5 comments about X&Y.
- I haven't heard this album in years but this was the single biggest let down/insult/disappointment I have ever heard.I was a huge fan of the first two albums and remember when no one had heard of them and I mentioned them (along with Travis) to people who said they liked Radiohead. The new album(Viva La Vida) is passable but this album apart from Fix You is the stalest most derivative uninspired album I've ever heard. If you want to hear the original version of this album check out Kid A. Not only does Coldplay's X&Y rip this album off shamelessly, but they do a horrible job of it.
Like I said I loved the first two albums and I defended Coldplay when people said they were completely unoriginal. I've always liked Radiohead better but before this album I still thought Coldplay brought something to music that was their own or at least if they ripped off Radiohead they did a good job of it. But this album made it abundantly clear to me that they were COMPLETELY ripping off Radiohead. It's one thing to be influenced by a band and use it as a starting point for your band, but when your musical direction completely mirrors the musical direction of that same band it becomes something else.
- I love X & Y. this is my favorite Coldplay album by far because from the opening track of "Square One" to the very end, it doesn't have any filler tracks. Every song is great and could be a potential single.
- This CD is my first exposure to Coldplay and I am at a loss as to why all the fuss over this band. Then again if you enjoy mainstream, commercial music this is for you.
Soon after inserting the disc into my player I removed it to thinking I had selected a U2 disc in error. No error had been made on my part.
The same vocals, the same maddening I feel like marching drum beat, the same simpleton bass lines, the same lack of substance on the guitar. Plain and simple, a ripoff of a commercially successful band from the past.
- My favorite Coldplay album yet, with lots to love: Talk (great), Fix You (excellent), Speed of Sound (super!), Square One, Low, and Swallowed in the Sea! Great stuff, no klunkers; we listen to this one a lot.
- Lost my 1st...Not sure how! They just keep getting better and better in my opinion. If you like this one you HAVE to get Viva La Vida!

- 15 years after its release, this album still sounds really crisp and fresh. I can picture this being on the radio today even moreso than in the early 90's. Great listen from a bunch of great Scottish lads.
- BANDWAGONESQUE was my introduction to Teenage Fanclub. This is "The Fannies" 3rd release and their first successful achievement. It also gained notoriety by beating out Nirvana's Nevermind, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, and R.E.M 's Out of Time as 'Album of the Year' by Spin magazine.
This album's lyrics and melodies shows that the Band were highly influenced by The Byrds, The Beach Boys, and of course Big Star.
I really can't believe Teenage Fanclub weren't considered the future of British Rock. Oasis and Blur won over that Crown. Blech! ...Kind of sad since Teenage Fanclub features 3 Master singer/songwriters in Blake, Love & McGinley.
BANDWAGONESQUE has so many wonderful highlights in twelve songs. It seems like it would be a 'Greatest Hits' for any above average Rock band. Although their later stuff is just as Good. Check out 1995's Grand Prix, which is even more lush w/ guitars a shinin' bright and clear, also no fuzz-boxes. Yep, BANDWAGONESQUE & GRAND PRIX are my two favorite studio albums by this marvelous band.
My favorites on BANDWAGONESQUE include: Opener - "The Concept" - "December" - "What You Do to Me" - "I Don't Know" - *Star Sign* - "Metal Baby" & "Sidewinder" but ALL are close to perfect 'lil pop-rockin' Hits, well to me at least.
- This album reminds me of a great alternative rock radio station in Minnesota circa 1991. Just at the time I thought "rock" was dead, along came that radio station and albums like this. "The Concept," "What You Do To Me," and "Star Sign" received regular rotation on the old KJJO, and what great tunes they were. Over the course of time this album has become a favorite in my collection. Good times. Great tunes. If it weren't for my discovery of classic alternative bands like this I'd probably be listening to country-and-western now. Ugh. :)
- from the stunning opener "the concept," with its wonderfully lyrical guitar solos, on through the closing intrumental "is this music?" this is a power pop classic. other standout tunes include "pet rock," which includes great hard rock guitar, "sidewinder," full of exquisite harmonies, and "guiding star," a song of majestic gently beauty. this is a recording all rock/pop lovers should have.
- If you love perfect early 1970's style pop, this is for you! One of my all time favorite cds, rich with lush harmonies and rock and roll guitars. Well constructed songs that rival any of the many bands they have been compared to (Big Star, Badfinger.)
This is their first commercial effort and all of their other releases are great as well. Start with this one and buy your way through the collection. This is an underrated gem which rarely strays far from the cd player.

5 comments about Forth.
- Though ecstatic upon the reformation of The Verve, I must say I am slightly disappointed at the permeation of the commercial sound Richard Ashcroft adopted while he was on his own.
All in all the album is a pleasant and slightly melancholic escape.
- I love the first three Verve albums and EP. I'm really glad they're back and hope they go on tour in the U.S. So I hope this album is a hit. As a "reunion album", Forth isn't so bad, but as a classic Verve album it is their weakest album by far. There are some beautiful musical moments on this album, but I am having a hard time getting into any of the songs. There's a certain vagueness in their structure and lyrics. None of them seem to build up much tension or energy. A lot of the songs are just ok - Sit and Wonder, I See Houses and Columbo for instance. But they need more in terms of dynamics. I cannot stand that "Love is Noise" song. Is it a lost reject from Zooropa or Pop? I love the guitarist in this band, turn him up in the mix. But what's wrong with the singer? Why's he so down? Maybe he needs another latte. Actually what saves "Noise Epic" is the fact that the singer is way down in the mix. An instrumental version of this album might be great (like they did with Dre's 2001). Despite all this, as reunion albums go, its not so bad. An interesting list idea - what bands have made a good or great album after a 10+ years absence? Besides Mission of Burma....
- After such a long hiatus, "Forth" was definitely worth buying but seems far more indicative of Richard Ashcroft's solo works than anything by the collective efforts of the band.
Still some good stuff on here anyway with some outstandingly stark lyrics from the pen of Ashcroft. Best? "I See Houses" is an outstanding anthem.
Overall, not a patch on "Urban Hymns" but a worthy addition to the Verve oeuvre.
- Has it really been 11 years since The Verve's masterpiece "Urban Hymns"? Wow... how time flies. Lead singer Richard Ashcroft's solo career since 1997 has been less than remarkable, and he must have finally realized that, and so finally the Verve come back with this, their 4th studio album.
"Forth" (10 tracks; 64 min.) starts off tremendously with "Sit and Wonder", with energy blazing all over. It is followed by "Love Is Noise" (1st UK single), which struck me as sounding eerily similar to the Simple Minds' sound of the mid -80s "Once Upon a Time" album sound, but that is not a slight. "Rather Me" sounds like the ballad that "Bitter Sweet Symphony" was, albeit not as good. After that excellent first third, the album starts to falter, with songs like "Judas" and "Numbness" that simply doesn't leave a lasting impression. The album is not well served by its 64+ min. length. It's simply too long, and nothing would've been lost by simply chopping off the last 2 songs, trimming it to a more manageable 50+ min. length.
It strikes me how this album sounds very similar to "Urban Myths" in its overall musical tone. This could have (and probably should have) been recorded in 1998 or 1999. That said, I have come to like the album quite a bit, and have been playing it a lot. I was supposed to see the Verve at Coachella earlier this year, but ended up not making that first day of the festival (when they played). I'm looking forward to an opportunity to see how the songs of "Forth" translate in a live setting at some point, assuming the band keeps playing together, a guess in anyone's book.
- They certainly haven't lost their edge despite the long gap and continued breaking up and rejoining. I can't say there are so many stand out, wow, songs as say Bittersweet Symphony, but altogether another great album and a great joy that they are still at it!!
A credit to the North West of England (must be all that coherence down the road in Skelmersdale???)!!

- Wreckless Eric at his very best. This cd contains all his hits, if you are looking for something alternative to the mainstream stuff of the 80's then try Wreckless Eric.
- I would like to give this CD 5 stars (lets face it there were so many better records made at the time that are simply classic), but I always remember Wreckless Eric with fond memories. In the late 70's, I found a brown vinyl 10" EP burried in the back of my local record store on Main Street (remember those things?). I discovered Wreckless Eric, finding his vocals and music facinating. I subsequently bought all the vinyl released by him and just recently while filling my new Zune, I decided I had to add him. Eric created a raw, pub room pop that I could just envision at a local pub in seedy inter-city section of England in 1979. I know Wreckless Eric could never have been a top of the charts kind of artist, but for a raw pop sound that is just down right great to listen to, the late Wreckless one is worth spending a couple of bucks.
- Coupla good songs - the rest is beneath mediocre. Should be a one-star album, but raised a notch based on the label's sense of humor....."greatest stiffs" indeed.
The two good songs on this compilation can be found on much better punk-era various artists collections.
