3 comments about Blues 'n' Jazz.

  1. Great blues n' jazz set from B.B. King. His guitar playing is great and vocals are superb. Some of the songs contain a very sublime feel but his guitar and vocal work keeps everything exciting and so does his great backing band. The backing band is excellent espically the horns on the instrumental "Rainbow Riot". The xylophone (or something along those lines) work on "Rainbow Riot" and "Teardrops From Eyes" is very interesting. The saxophone on "Rainbow Riot" is incredible and the trumpet on "Darlin' You Know I Love You" is also excellent. B.B.'s vocals on shine on trakcs such as "Darlin' You Know I Love You." The best guitar is on "Inflation Blues", "Heed My Warning" and "I Can't Let You Go."

  2. One word for this cd: Sublime! From the very first note, you know this is going to be a good cd. If you've scrolled down this far into BB KING and are reading this, then you should know that as BB KING fan I recommend this highly. King's got tons of recordings, some good and some not so good. This is one of his better recordings. As a guitarist, we all want to reach what BB reaches when he strikes those strings. We seldom do, but it sure inspiring as heck to listen to him and try. He's Sublime, everybody knows it!

  3. I've had this CD since it first came out. BB King recorded the CD after coming in off of a tour. This CD has a strong horn section backing up the vocals. This CD rocks. This is a great BB King CD. I've been a fan for a long time and this CD is highly reccomended and one that you will enjoy listening to over and over again. When something is well done, it doen't get old. This CD stands the test of time. Go buy it.

5 comments about Emotions.

  1. I have no words for the way that this CD touched my heart; I know you will share my sentiments when you pick it up (hint hint hint). Aptly named, Emotions is a combination of riveting insights into love and sensibility. I commend PJ for realizing that there is a love that exists beyond the fairytale nirvana of bedtime story books. This release should enlighten you to the realities of love's roller-coaster. As fun as the expectations and trepidation can be during the ups, love reminds us that the downs can be equally as intense while just as temporary.

This CD will awaken a realization that there is no way you should frivolously end something special over an inevitable and momentary downturn. "Blah, blah, blah" seems to sum it up best. When you are asked to describe how your lover makes you feel one should never have the appropriate words. It seems to me that this description should always come out "like Jiborish".

  2. I walked into a small c.d shop for my normal monthly purchases. Inside was this little guy doing an signing. I decided to help him out since I'd never heard of him before and buy his c.d. I didn't think I'd listen to it, much less like it. I really ENJOYED this c.d. Too bad he gets no airplay and very few people have heard of him.

  3. I was listening to the music station on cable when I first heard Paul PJ Morton, Jr. the song was Jibborish, blah, blah, blah. Immediately I knew I had to have the CD, that was 4wks ago. I searched the music stores with no success, No one had heard of PJ Morton Jr. and kept directing me to his father's music. Finally I had to go on the internet to find the CD. That was 2wks ago, I haven't stopped playing the CD yet. All the songs are fantastic. My mother and I share the same taste in music and when she heard I was searching for this CD, and found it she was just as excited as I was and immediately wanted to hear it. I started playing it for her on Saturday and she's still listening to it. And she's also, telling others about this great CD. I'm ordering PJ Morton Jr's CD for my mother today.

Mr. Morton, you have a fan base here in Columbus, OH, keep singing and I'll keep buying your music. Kudos

  4. I heard "Fly Away" on Live365 's Music That Flows radio station Of course I was like "Oh, snap! Who is that?" I knew I had to get this. I'm glad I did. I checked out his bio and come to find out that PJ is a "PK", Bishop Paul Morton Sr. 's son. Very cool. Thats why the vibe is so sweet.
I really enjoyed PJs CD and having read info on his group's (Freestyle Nation) website, I now realize I recognize his voice from India Arie xtra track, "Interested".
As I said I really liked "Fly Away" but also "Ordinary Love" and "How We Were". The only minor prob is that all or most of the songs have a VERY "Stevie Wondery" vibe and kinda sound the same. But since Im a big Stevie fan, its cool for a first project. All in all this a very sweet, pure, project where the suject matter is love. Oh yeah, I'm definitely gonna pick up the Freestyle Nation CD.

  5. This is an astounding album, this guy off the meter. it's writing, music, and production are as solid and tasteful as old school (real music) but modern creativity gives it excellent balance. IF MUSIC IS YOU DRUG, THIS IS YOUR NEW HIGH!! HOLLA

2 comments about The Best Of Bobby Bland, B. B. King & Junior Parker.

  1. Note: two songs (Wondering & Mother-In-Law)are credited to Junior Parker and Bobby Bland, leading one to believe that they are duets. Not so! They are performed by Parker, only. They originally appeared on an old LP, "Blues Consolidated", which was credited to Bland and Parker. But THAT was because side 1 of the LP was Bobby Bland tracks, and side 2 was Junior Parker tracks. Whoever complied this CD must have made the erroneous assumption that all the songs from that LP were duets involving BOTH artists. Also, "Let The Good Times Roll" is credited to Bland and BB King. Well, there is a live version of the song, with the two singers alternating on verses, which can be found on other CD's. The version, here, is live - but it sounds like BB King alone on this performance. Small points, though - it's still good Memphis-style blues from three of it's greatest practitioners.

  2. I recently order this cd in july after listen to it, It made me feel like feel good in my opions it is the best this is what you call music in my days

5 comments about Rockin' the Blues.

  1. Great, great boxed set of the incredible Wynonie Harris. In my opinion the greatest African-American singer of them all. What vocal power! Some really good songs weren't on this, like "Wasn't that Good", but very important early songs were included. I'm very glad that more interest is being shown in his music in recent years, since he was almost forgotten in the years shortly after he died in 1969. A wonderful collection of classic jump blues, and I highly recommend it. Let there always be good rockin'tonite!

  2. What a great boxed set. There are almost no weak songs and little or no filler, but imagine how much better it might have been if they had included "Bloodshot eyes" and "Lovin' machine." Worth 5 stars even without them.

  3. ........OF ONE OF THE GREATEST BLUES SHOUTERS THERE EVER WAS, MR. BLUES, WYNONIE HARRIS. ADMITTEDLY, SOME OF THE SONGS SOUND A BIT THE SAME, BUT THIS IS GREAT STUFF, ORIGINAL ROCK AND ROLL, BEFORE IT WAS EVEN CALLED THAT. IF YOU LIKE BIG JOE TURNER, LOUIS JORDAN, JIMMY RUSHING, OR EDDIE "CLEANHEAD" VINSON, THEN YOU WILL ALSO LOVE WYNONIE HARRIS.

  4. First, a bit of a warning... if this is going to be your first taste of WYNONIE, I highly recommend BLOODSHOT EYES... less tunes, but a bit more "punchy" and to the point. And if it isn't... welcome back, and welcome to heaven (yes, who'd ever imagine that sinners DO go to heaven?)

As for Wyononie - - who was he ? I think there are a few great ways to describe him - - 1. As the true father of Rock and Roll (via the genre of so called "jump" and "rhythm and blues". 2 Louis Jordan's evil twin. (Will explain...) 3. One of the greatest (if not most perverse) blues shouters to ever live. As for the Louis Jordan comment - - the similarities are apparent - - both forged the way for rock and roll, but while Jordan tended to keep it clean, Wynonie didn't mind playing it blue... and his tunes are full of sexual references perhaps tame by today's standards, but still quite funny - - take I LIVE MY BABY'S PUDDING, ALL SHE WANTS TO DO IS SIT ON IT - - and LOVIN' MACHINE. Wyononie is also the hard drinkin' bad boy who reminded his listners to "keep on churning until the butter comes," meaning he was good, wholesome and encouraged people to drink milk... Thumbs up to him.

Added surprized on this album include backing vocals by the HARLEMAIRES (one of the original R&B/Doo Wop vocal groups, featuring Frankie Lymon's Dad, and Dottie Smith, who also played timbale's and sang and strawbossed for Jordan) - - In addition tunes like OH BABE and GOOD MORNING JUDGE make you wonder who was copping who when it came to another Louis - - and finally there is one of the most swinging, jumping, houserockin' versions of TEARDROPS FROM MY EYES ever recorded.

Ample reasons to purchase this... you bet.

Of interesting note... the terms ROCK AND ROLL and R & B were actually terms concocted to describe this type of music long after it existed... Rhythm and Blues supposedly wasn't a genre but two types of music - - The Blues and "Rhythm" music, which were both RACE music and often played together... hence the DJs would say they were spinning Blues and Rhythm (or Rhythm and Blues) at that time... I mention that because in Wynonie's music you can really hear the cross roads and roots of the great American backbeat in all its forms from Jazz and Swing to Rhythm, Blues and Rock and Roll, hence the music isn't only soulful, humorous and toe tapping, its enlightening too !
For this reason, Wynonie definitely belongs in your player and I hope you'll agree !

  5. Buy this immediately!

Wynonie Harris is the real 'king of rock & roll'. This is the music you hear about so much that was STOLEN by Elvis, repackaged, and sold to white teenagers. This guy is 100% the real deal and was rocking jukeboxes when Elvis was a nobody. Oh! and if you're one of these college-educated music history majors that say that Rock & Roll is a mixture of blues and country: This music, and other period R&B is proof that rock and roll is purely an extension of Rhythm and Blues. The probelm is that this "music of the devil" was about real life, it is REAL, alive, and full of sexual inneundo, so that means it never got radio play for the most part. That's why it was swept under the rug and forgotten about.

About the set: I can't believe you're getting this much music for the price! This is an actual "boxed set" in the sense where each disc is packaged in an idividual jewel case. It comes with a nice, thick book with great, detailed, liner notes and amazing...almost startling photos of Wynonie "Mr. Blues" Harris. As a bonus, you get a catalogue of Proper's other releases as well. The sound quality is a bit under that of the single disc King complilaton release that I already had, but there is so much more here. All the hits are here as well as virtually unknown tracks. Many on CD for the first time ever.

You get the rockers, you get the straight-up blues, and he even does a fantastic job as a crooner. I was also really surprised to hear some slow boogie-woogies. These few tracks have a repitious bass line, which add so much excitement. Mr. Blues litterally, slows down, sustains the note for a while...almost like a tenor sax. That sound is so soul-satisfying. What raw talent and versitility in those arrangements! I can't stop listening!!!

Mr. Blues, may you ROCK mankind for all of eternity!! You have left us and are sadly missed, but you have left the entire world with the gift of your pure musical genius. Rock, Mr. Blues - FOREVER!

1 comments about A Celebration Of Blues: The Great Guitarists, Vol. 2.

  1. I came across this CD in a second hand shop, and was amazed at how good this is. Not the usual bunch of nobodies that you see on these (low priced?) compilations, but some genuine blues greats. If you like blues guitar, maybe leaning slightly towards the rock & roll side, this is about the best collection I've ever heard.
