- I purchased this out of curiousity (as if I had extra "curiosity " money!). Well, it's okay, nothing so incredible. Yes , Troy can play guitar, very well as a matter of fact. But while I was listening and when it was over I didn't ever once say "wow" or feel the need to play it over again right away. I tend to compare all guitar players to Randy Rhoads and his awesome riffs and licks that stay in your head and demand to be played over again many times. Even make me want to reach for my guitar. I'll keep this disc and listen to it on my disc changer occasionally. But Troy, in the future, blow me away. This was just good guitar playing, nothing super duper memorable. I wish someone would make an instrumental CD that had Randy Rhoads, King Diamond and Iron Maiden riffage with awesome solos that would leave me with goose bumps.

2 comments about The Shit Factory: Greatest Punk Swindle.
- ive been a loyal street/Oi! punk for a few years now and ive heard alot of bad cds this is by no means a bad cd. sure there may be some really ... versions of good songs but it still packs enough variety and good songs to over shaddow that fact. this cd features some more under ground bands (chron gen, eater, the drones, etc.) so its a good place to start for beginners yet its also a decent collection for hardcore fans. 6 cds of classic punk for $ you cant go wrong but just dont expect to get more than what you paid for.
- This was originally released on Dressed To Kill as "God Save The Queen"..which was the first 3 disc of this set. Now they released that box set with 3 extra disc of the same junk. The problem with this box set isnt the bands , there are alot of great bands on here..but this set picked the worst versions of those band's songs. Instead of the original recordings on some tracks we get scrappy live recordings that fade in and out , and also live versions that sound awful. Plus there is also some stuff on here that absolutely doesnt belong. Oh come on why is Billy Brag , and Tom Robinson on here?..and I even heard some disco and what not...also...they put several of the same tracks on different disc..not alternate versions..but the same songs ..which shows this was poorly put together and is just wrong.I have yet to see a worthy box set to buy...every single box set I have seen has been worthless because they hand pick the worst of the worst..and this is no exceptions...but good to have anyway if you are unfamliar with classic punk

1 comments about Hot and Spicy Salsa Hits.
- If you like salsa avoid this like the plague. For one thing there are no real horns, which I suppose might be okay if there were other real instruments to replace them, but it's all synthesized (if there are any real instruments they are well buried in the mix). The singing is bad too. To add insult to injury this "Hot Salsa" compilation contains a number of merengue and latino-pop songs, which again might be okay if they weren't so abysmally performed. If you want a salsa compilation, look elsewhere for one with tracks by the original artists.

1 comments about Everything It Takes To Be An Asshole.
- This album has been sadly overlooked for many years like a funny little reminder of your mispent youth. Left Nut sum up everything that WASN'T PC about the late 80's and early 90's underground scene. Funny, irrelevant and not really that shocking anymore but thats a good thing, maybe Left Nut were ahead of their time? This is really harmless enough fun compared with those who set out to shock with their naughty lyrics, not too offensive if you have a sense of humour and a large pinch of salt! Buy it purely to remind you how fun being an underage alcholic was...if you can remember those days? Just joking; if you grew up with the same old lame rock that everyone listened to but YOU wanted more then Left Nut were the kind of band you were just waiting for...buy it now and may your dreams come true!

This is certainly a lavish looking set, but before you buy look it up on allmusic.com and sample the tracks.
Sure enough -- it's them. Yet another uncredited repackaging of the Picks, defacing Holly's finest work with pointless and embarrassingly tasteless overdubbed vocal harmonies.
For the curious, here's what's going on....
Back in 1957 Holly's producer Norman Petty, inspired by the Jordanaires' backings on Elvis singles, added backing vocals to Crickets /Brunswick singles by the Roses or Picks (two local harmony groups). Buddy brought the Roses on tour in 1958 but not the Picks. The Picks' actual connection with Holly was slight.
After Holly's death, a number of under produced demos and acoustic rehearsal tapes were left behind. From 1960-69 these were overdubbed with varying success by Jack Hanson of Coral or Norman Petty with the Fireballs. Their purpose was to bring such demos up to commercial release quality - but they never, ever touched Holly's substantial body finished recordings on Brunswick/Coral.
That was then... Now fast forward to the mid-1980s...
Most of the past guardians of the Holly masters are now deceased or retired. And for some incomprehensible reason, someone in authority thought it a good idea to grant the obscure Picks license to overdub at whim anything and/or everything Buddy Holly ever recorded.
Remember, the Hanson and Petty overdubs of the 1960s (whatever you think of them) intended only to bring under produced demos up to commercial quality.
There is no such need or purpose here.
The Picks apparently seek only self-promotion by imposing vocal harmonies indiscriminately over the entire Buddy Holly catalog. They have shamelessly overdubbed even his finest classic works like "Peggy Sue".
It is heartbreaking to think many young rock fans seeking to learn about Holly are surely suckered into these minefields, where they are totally misinformed and surely disappointed with his music.
Because knowledgeable buyers avoided these tracks, their distributer is now omitting the Picks' name from albums so their mischief is harder to avoid. And constantly repackaging the same tracks under any number of fly-by-night labels: Pazzazz, Rajon, Prism, Prism Explorer, Prism Platinum, Double Pleasure, Lifet, Recall Records U.K., Dressed To Kill, Charly, Charly U.K., Red X, Solo Music, K-label, K-Tel...
Potentially any label unknown to you. It's like the old shell game - "Oops, gotcha!"
MCA, Universal, EMI, Geffin, BGO, and such are the real thing. So are many others such as the Netherlands "Singles" box, etc. If in doubt, try looking up the album by title AND label on allmusic.com.
I am seriously grateful to other Amazon reviewers who have for some time been pointing out credited or uncredited Picks overdubs.
