5 comments about Very Best of Jethro Tull.
- Jethro Tull. They are a legendary progressive group whose music has made an impact on many generations. Led by Ian Anderson, the legendary flute player and singer and Martin Barre, Tull has made some of the finest music ever put out.
'The Very Best of Jethro Tull,' unfortunately doesn't document it. There are so many songs missing. And, 'Thick As A Brick' and 'Heavy Horses' are both edited. 'Thick As A Brick' is chopped down from 40+ minutes to just 3:03, and 'Heavy Horses' from 8+ to 3:20.
And, if you're going to issue 'The Very Best of Jethro Tull' AT LEAST MAKE IT TWO DISCS!!! Where is 'Teacher,' 'Crossfire,' 'A Song For Jeffrey,' 'Warchild' and 'Dharma For One'? These are key tracks to Jethro Tull's legacy, and yet, they are all not on here!
This disc does fill 78 of the 80 minutes that can be held on a disc, so it's not skimpy, but it could be a lot better. If you want a Jethro Tull collection of songs in their full-length versions, check out 'Classic Masters' or 'Through The Years.' It doesn't matter, considering they are identical.
The bottom line is Chrysalis could have done A LOT better.
- Jethro Tull was one these bands that one might denominate as heralds of the Rock. Indeed, they established new paths and ways of expression through the wise employment of the flute and a smart support on the basis of the folk tunes of Irish airs.
So the final outcome was an accurate blend of power and original musicality that became them as one of ther most innovative bands at the end of the sixties.
After them, there were many other bands that inspired by them, intended with minor success to repeat the formula. But as you and me are aware about the historical transcendence of a immortal band that signed with golden letters a well deserved place among the great ones.
To my mind the cream of the cream tracks are Teacher, Aqualung, Living in the past, Cross eyed Mary, Thick as a brick, Minstrel in the gallery, Bouree, A new day yesterday, Nothing is easy , The whistler and Heavy horses.
- Frequently Asked Question #1: Why does Tull have so many different compilations?
Answer: Because they were compiled at different times over a 30 year period, and for different reasons.
FAQ #2: Which one is the very best for the casual listener?
Answer: The Very Best of Jethro Tull.
Here's why. The first three compilations were made in the Analog Era (Living in the Past, M.U., and Repeat) and hardly shared any songs between them. This was followed by a compilation of remastered hits at the beginning of the Digital Era (Original Masters) which had mostly songs from the previous three but had that [ADD] indicator that was so important at the time. On the 25th and 30th anniversaries they released "non-hit" compilations, or concept compilations (Acoustic and Through the Years), if you will, that are really good, but are not "hits collections".
This album, The Very Best, can be considered the final word on hits compilations. It supercedes Original Masters. Since Original masters, Ian Anderson went back into the mixing booth and remastered every one of the analog albums. The Very Best takes the remastered versions from the albums that Ian Anderson remastered. If you want the hits in their finest digital form, as re-envisioned by the kingpin of the band himself, do not look any further. This is it.
That said, it appears that Mr. Anderson is remaking the original compilations using the remastered recordings. The first is a remastered M.U. called Essential Jethro Tull. I imagine there will be a remastered Repeat called Essential Jethro Tull II in a year or two. What else is coming? What will they do for the 40 year retrospective? Maybe a compilation of songs about cats? That would be fun, but, if you don't want to buy 21 albums and create your own playlists, then go for this one, The Very Best of Jethro Tull.
Clue: Buy it here instead of iTunes! It costs a dollar less, you get the CD and all that, and it's 20 songs!
- Its got the more familiar tunes on it, but missing a couple of his better hits. Overall, a good collection.
- It's excellent for any Tull Fan---Ian Anderson put together the tracks himself; what he considers the best of the best

5 comments about AC/DC - Family Jewels.
- This 2-DVD set is what we all want to see, AC/DC's greatest music videos (interspersed with awesome live performances) of both eras of this legendary band (up the the Razor's Edge album). Fans of Bon Scott will particularly enjoy the first DVD, it has one of the earliest TV performances by AC/DC with their first steady lead singer, Scott. Most fans don't know that AC/DC released a single with a different lead singer, Dave Evans, but they made the right choice and dumped him for Bon Scott's world-known howls.
- Has anyone figured a way to convert the DVD tracks to audio tracks in the MP3 format? I want an MP3 version of each song on the DVD without having to buy the CDs. I've tried to rip and convert, but no luck yet.
- Just F ing incredible . First disk is all Bon stuff second disk is all Brian stuff . There are some Bon era stuff from Aussie TV shows . Great stuff ...
Fun for the whole family
- AC/DC are one of the best rock bands of all time so when they released this 2 dvd set I just had to buy it immediately upon its release and when I got this dvd I was not disappointed. Family Jewels is a truly awesome music dvd, it has quite an impressive amount of music videos from the band throughout the years starting of on disc 1 with singer Bon Scott performing the song "Baby please don't go" live on Australian television with Bon Scott in drag looking absolutely demented and Angus rocking out in his trademark schoolboy outfit which is great, Bon Scott had a great stage presence and was a cool singer. Other highlights include "It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll" where the band are performing on a platform to a large crowd on the street with a Scottish group playing bagpipes. "Let there be rock" has Bon Scott as a priest and its pretty good, there are other great videos as well like "Highway to hell", "Dirty deeds done dirt cheap", "If you want blood you've got it" etc. this is mostly live footage from the 70's and promo clips which then ends with the rare Spanish television performance taped ten days before Bon Scott's death.
Disc two traces the classic 80's and 90's videos and features Brian Johnson as the lead singer starting off with "Hells bells" from the album Back In Black which happens to be one of the best selling rock albums of all time, the problem with the second dvd is that it wasn't as good as the first but then again some people might disagree. I'm a Bon Scott fan but I still like Brian Johnson (Bon Scott had the charisma whilst Brian had the voice) however I consider Fly On The Wall to be one of the worst albums by AC/DC so I didn't really care for the Fly On The Wall video, the music video was way too corny especially when that little animated fly comes along (oh dear!)its one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen but still the rest of the videos were excellent and I especially liked "Thunderstruck" along with "Shook me all night long", "Heat seeker" and "For those about to rock" those were the best videos in my opinion. Overall theres some great music videos included in this dvd which you can't afford to miss especially if your an AC/DC fan, the picture and sound quality are absolutely brilliant and it has a nice 1.5 surround sound mix and it lasts for 2 and a half hours. This is the best music dvd I have ever seen and its a must for any true AC/DC fan.
For those about to rock.....We salute you.
- If your an AC/DC fan, this is a great set!!!! Great set!!! Get it if your even remotly a fan!

5 comments about Dreamboat Annie.
- If you'd like to have a female Led Zeppelin band, then Heart is for you. This is a great hard rock album. The songs "Magic Man", "Crazy on You", "Sing Child" are fantastic like all of the songs. The only trouble is the song "Dreamboat Annie" which is three times in the album. Still, if you love 70's hard rock sound, then "Dreamboat Annie" is for you. It's maybe their best album. Those two girls really had a great influental affection for fem-rock. This music has a heart and a soul!
Stars: Crazy on You, Magic Man, Sing Child
- This is Heart at its best - a great rock and roll album. This one belongs in every true rock fans' CD collection. White Lightning & Wine is a GREAT tune, worth the cost of the record by itself.
- I love almost every song on the record.
Love their vocals and arrangements, great band.
Wish they had more like this...
- The first and best Heart album. This is an essential and must own album for any fan of rock music.
- I remember when "Magic Man" hit the airwaves, I was so impressed that I went out & bought the album. The Wilson sisters from Seattle did not disappoint. "Magic Man", at the time, was a radical departure for a lead female vocalist. As the Wilson sisters were so fond of saying, "We rawk!" This was an impressive debut from the group. They did three different versions of "Dreamboat Annie", albeit each subtly different. "Crazy on You" was the other hit from this album though it didn't chart as well. "Crazy on You", in my opinion, was just as good as "Magic Man". What set it apart was the acoustic intro, Nancy was an excellent rhythm guitarist. Ann had the killer voice that could gravitate from soft to harsh in a second, a very gifted vocalist. Other great songs on this album include "White Lightening and Wine" & "Sing Child".
Heart could do ballads and rock hard. They have been compared to Led Zeppelin, even called "the female Led Zeppelin". I'm not sure who propagated this myth but Heart didn't do anything to disprove it. They wholeheartedly covered Led Zeppelin songs. I'm not familiar with them before they hit it big but did see them in concert about the time the album Magazine was released. They put on a great show but they didn't do any Led Zeppelin songs. Since that time, however, they have released two Led Zeppelin songs that they covered: "Rock and Roll" & "Stairway to Heaven". It's even been claimed that one song from their second album "Dream of the Archer" was a complete appropriation of the Led Zeppelin song "The Battle of Evermore". Certainly there are some similarities. But the comparison to Led Zeppelin was an unfair one. Ann had the vocal ability to match Robert Plant but the rest of the group weren't on the same talent level of Led Zeppelin. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed Heart, they were a group that was capable of many styles & they did them well.

5 comments about Hemispheres.
- I think that Hemispheres is Rush's best 70s album, and definatly one of the best records thay ever made. Most people will say 2112 or Kings are better, because they are more recognizable/popular, however I disagree with that assesment. The title track is the finest extended song that band has ever written, the lyrics are really amazing when you read along to the music. It is far more substaintial and better crafted then 2112. Be prepared for a strange trip with Hemispheres, it is the most progressive work of Rush, which sadly would not be approached again after it's release and tour. Circumstances is a short, yet highly sophisticated rocker stuffed with time changes and exotic instruments employed. The Trees is another fan favorite that relies on Neil's fable like story telling to represent social unrest through the aspect of nature. And last but not least there is LaVillStragiato, a 9 minute instrumental which i think spotlights Alex's talent as one of the best guitarists on the planet. I like this instrumental much better then the far more popular YYZ.
Even though it only has 4 songs, this CD reward repeat listenings. Definate must buy, it is one of Rushes finest moments.
- This is when Rush got everything really together and still hadn't stopped for too much polishing. An amazing feat as Hemispheres takes you on a great journey through ancient wisdom, impeccable musicianship to perfection. A true rock classic!
- Four Songs. For GREAT Songs. For INCREDIBLY Great Songs.
You realize I could go on forever, right? Anyway, Every song on here is a success in every way. From the beutiful instrumentation of "La Villa Strangiato" to the incredible lyrics of "The Trees", this album is a masterpiece. All I can say is Buy It! You WILL NOT be sorry. I hope you guys enjoy it...
- As a follow up to Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres is everything it could possibly be. The two albums are linked not only by release dates and progressive creativity, but also by a light thematic link in the "Cygnus" saga. Musically, the boys are again at the top of their game with this release.
It is a testament to this album that it is the ONLY Rush album in their long career from which every song (yes, the entire album) was played on the supporting tour. (Only Moving Pictures eventually saw every song played live, but not on the supporting tour.)
For the songs:
HEMISPHERES: "Cygnus X-1, Book II". A fantastic album-side epic track. It is a coherent whole, both musically and lyrically, and yet is diverse enough to remain interesting throughout. The connection to "Cygnus" from Farewell is not particulary strong (both Books might have stood alone almost as effectively), but the connection is there and I suppose it does add a little to the saga. The song also has some of the most extensive and intense singing of any Rush epic -- lots of lyrics to be sung, and not much instrumental break for Geddy (perhaps one of the reasons it's not done live anymore -- would be quite a marathon to do night after night). In any event, an amazing prog-rock epic trak, and incredibly creative.
CIRCUMSTANCES: A tight little rocker, with some incredible riffs, especially just before each chorus. A bit of a mood change at the beginning of the instrumental section, which builds back up to the power of the song's opening.
TREES: A perennial favorite live, with a classical guitar opening, a nature setting instrumental section in the middle, and some driving rock sections in between. The meaning behind the lyrics has been debated, but the ironic twist at the end is clever regardless.
LA VILLA: Hands down, the best instrumental of all time. It is a multi-movement song that builds, retreats, and builds again through about 9 movements, some of which repeat later to create a chorus feel. Another song that has not grown old, and still makes a grand appearance on most tours.
This album also sees Geddy's last really high-pitched, wailing vocals (except for a brief moment in "Freewill" on the next album), and seems to mark the end of an era for Rush, as they really turn from their epic numbers over the next two albums, before abandoning them altogether. Fortunately, they end that chapter with this incredible album.
If there is one drawback to this album, the cover art is a little goofy. But hey, it's prog rock, and they were having fun.
5+ stars
- In the early days of high school I had to scrounge for tapes of albums, mainly because I didn't have a job, therefore no money. I had a friend record this album for me onto cassette and I wore that tape out. When I could I eventually bought a cd copy.
First let me say that beyond the sentimental value of this cd, that it's straight up, prog Rush at their very finest. First is the classic opus Hemispheres, artistically protraying the battle of the heart and mind, as represented by Dionysus and Apollo respectively, a quandry that is resolved by Cygnus, the bringer of balance. The lyrics and musicianship are incomparable, this is Rush at their very best. Next is Circumstances, a brooding track that I like very much. Then comes the classic "The Trees", a song which has lived a long life in concert performances and lastly "La Villa Strangiato", a phenomenal instrumental, featuring some sweet soloing by Alex Lifeson.
The music is somewhat dated by now, but it doesn't change the fact that it's an astounding prog rock classic. I'd say get this cd along with 2112 and you'll hear Rush at their absolute peak.

5 comments about Fandango!.
- OK, maybe "Fandango" only had a profound influence on my taste in music. While I was stationed in Germany in the early 70s, a friend lent me "Fandango" and "Tres Hombres." (When we get together, he asks me when I plan to return them. I tell him there are two chances of that happening: Fat and none.) I've been a fan ever since. There are many purveyors of Texas-style rock, but none of the others make me just wanna to get up and boogie the way Billy Gibbons (& Pearly, mercy me!), Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard do. ZZ Top's pre-MTV stuff is raw, raunchy, straight to the gut, b**s-to-the-wall, kick-a** rock & roll. Unlike some fans, I think their MTV/RWG (Really Weird Guitars) output is great, too, but nothing matches the foundation they laid down on their early vinyl. So grab a Lone Star long-neck, crank it to 11, and boogie!
- ZZ Top - Fandango, right till the end!!! Watch your speedometer when jammin' on this CD! I'm pleased!
- The CD has excellent Sound qulaity. It has been remastered. Frankly I was l little concerned because I read other reviews that stated they went overboard with the effects. It just sounds clean and balanced to me. Plus you get previousley unreleased versions of Tush and Jailhouse rock.
- This is classic Old School ZZ Top? How old school? They don't have the trademark beards on the album covers.
This album is so deep it could count as a Greatest Hits for many other bands. Jailhouse Rock covers the Elvis classic. Backdoor Medley, a compilation of John Lee Hooker blues tunes, is my favorite of the batch. Mexican Blackbird is another great tune - is she a lady or a car? Tush, I heard it on the X and Blue Jeans Blues are all true classics - they've survived the test of time and are still staples of their concerts, and classic rock airwaves.
The album's a must for any ZZ Top or Blues Rock afficianado!
- ZZ Top's Fandango album is pretty bad and not worth owning at all, in my opinion. Read on to find out why:
First of all, the first side is probably the most *boring* side to a hard rock record from the 70's I've ever heard. Normally a band comes out strong with worthwhile material to kick things off, but apparently ZZ Top wanted to be different. The "half live"/"half studio" idea didn't work.
Their cover of "Jailhouse Rock" is not only inferior to the original, but inferior to every version of the song I know. It's WAY too short, and not interesting. From there, a 9-minute jam is up next. It starts off like it's going to be a pretty rockin' tune, but then it begins annoying me when it eventually turns into a giant rambling mess. It seriously sounds to me like the final 6 minutes of the jam consists of just one single drum beat pounding over and over, with the singer going back and forth between whispering and screaming. It's really boring. It's SUCH a carelessly created jam. Probably some of the worst live music I've ever had the displeasure of hearing.
Things pick up a bit for the second side (the studio portion of the album). "Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings" has a nice funky beat, which was ZZ Top's trademark back in the day. The guitar solo fails, and the vocals go by harmlessly, but with hardly *any* excitement whatsoever. Actually that's a huge problem I have with early ZZ Top- their music is loud, certainly rocks and all the members of the band are competent musicians, but many of their vocal melodies consist of singing along to an upbeat funky rocker, with really no creativity involved to make the vocals stand out. As a result, their vocals are usually weak and uninteresting.
"Blue Jean Blues" is easily the best song on the entire album. It's a slow, bluesy number with pretty good guitar playing. Really the band is just copying what Led Zeppelin and countless other rock bands did better, but for what it is, it's acceptable. "Balinese" unfortunately is NOT acceptable. It sounds like a really bad attempt for a commercial hit. It's probably not, but nothing can save it from being horrible.
"Mexican Blackbird" is only worthwhile for the neat southern accent from the lead singer. That alone makes the song stand out, but it can't escape the reality of being just an above-average rocker. "Heard It On the X" is perhaps the best song on Fandango. It rocks convincingly, not carelessly like the rest of the album. "Tush" finishes off the album. Everybody knows it. It's pretty good, but overplayed thanks to classic rock radio. That hurts it only slightly.
Overall, ZZ Top had some good songs, but the majority of their career was spent on creating and releasing one spotty album after another. The thing that bothers me is how most of their songs have guitar solos, and not a single one of them is interesting almost 100% of the time.
Luckily Fandango is barely 30 minutes long, but I should have watched Jeopardy instead.

5 comments about A Night at the Opera.
- Listening to this great CD today, I can remember why it was one of my favorite albums in my senior year in HS. Queen really knew how to produce a cohesive album. This album is so eclectic in styles and yet somehow it all fits together so well I can't imagine the album without all of the songs and in the order they were placed. Now this CD offers alternative versions of two of the songs, well I wouldn't have done that, but in the wonderful digital age we can make the albums we own into any order of presentation we want, so that is a trifling issue.
At the time I remember the Brian May disclaimer on the bottom that no synthesizers were used to create this album. In 1975 I didn't get that, but by the early 80's I completely understood. Finally, in 2008 it seems that music for the most part (Cher and Paula excepting) have gotten back to real instruments and real musicians playing real music. But much of that seems to be the old guys on "comeback tours" so I may be over hopeful.
In any case here's the deal,
If you don't own A Night at the Opera, you should it is amazing!
- I just finished downloading this album, one of my all time favorites, and I noticed that there are 14 tracks instead of 12. The Queen discography states 12. Amazon has included a repeat of I'm in love with my car @ 3:28 and You're my best friend @2:51. One is a second shorter and one is a second longer? Any idea why they would add tracks to this album?
- Looking back at the 1970s, sometimes many forget how big the band Queen was. Even as Queen moved into the 1980s, while their popularity did slightly decline in the United States, it continued to be very high in Europe. Their performance at Live Aid is widely considered one of the greatest of all-time and their subsequent "Magic" tour is considered one of the all-time greatest concert tours. If it weren't for Freddie Mercury's death in 1992, we might still be talking about Queen being as big a band as the Beatles. When Queen released their 1973 self-titled debut album, it showed all of the signs of greatness to come. This album would show how the band embraced a "theatrical" feel to their music as well as embrace a sound that would evolve into what would become Heavy Metal. The next two albums, "Queen II" and "Sheer Heart Attack" continued down the road of the theatrical sound. It was that third album, "Sheer Heart Attack" that would not just become a commercial breakthrough album for Queen, but also become an album that would showcase Mercury's abilities as a Hall of Fame vocalist. On "A Night at the Opera", while the band moves slightly away from the theatrical sound at times, they continue to progress with as a band. We also see the other members take it up a notch from already a high level of musicianship.
Queen is an example of the sum of the parts actually being greater than the whole. However, if you take each of the four members of Queen, they easily stand on their own as a top musician in their profession. Freddie Mercury is easily known to be the emotional and flamboyant lead vocalist of Queen who indeed has a legendary voice. Brian May is the legendary lead guitarist and probably the second most popular member of the band. Roger Taylor and John Deacon go extremely underrated. Listen to Taylor's thundering drumming in the studio or live and one can easily understand why he was asked to participate in an All Star Drum Jam (The S.O.S. All-Stars) at the Live Earth concert. As for John Deacon, he might be one of music's all-time underrated bass players. Many of his bass lines have proven to be the foundation for Queen's musical sound. In addition to being top musicians, all four members play integral roles in the songwriting.
Here is a track by track synopsis of this collection:
"Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To...)": This track was written as a "hate letter" to Norman Sheffield, Queen's former manager. The opening lines of the track really back this up with lines such as "You suck my blood like a leach....you've taken all my money - and you still want more". There is definitely anger that comes out in this song - thus giving it a feeling of true emotion.
"Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon": This is the first of three "vaudeville/ragtime" feeling song. The song is highlighted by a combination of Mercury's piano and a wrap-up guitar solo by May.
"I'm in Love with My Car": Queen fans know Taylor is more than just a drummer and this song shows it. Once again, Taylor proves he is a top-rate lead vocalist. Taylor's higher octaves almost give this song what I would consider an early heavy metal feel to it.
"You're My Best Friend": Deacon is often the forgotten member of Queen, but this song proves he is as talented as anything - writing this track as well as playing electric piano and bass. Freddie Mercury's vocals give this song a three dimensional feel in terms of emotion (Deacon wrote this song as a tribute to his wife). Quiet as always, Deacon's bass also proves to be a foundation for this song - also synchronizing well with Taylor's percussion.
"'39": This might be one of the most underrated tracks in Queen's catalog. May handles songwriting, acoustic guitars and adds some amazing lead vocals. This song is tribute to the year 1939. Great background vocals by both Taylor and Mercury. I also give credit to Deacon for some great use of the double bass.
"Sweet Lady": This song has a classic hard rock/heavy metal feel that Queen had now become famous for. Mercury's vocals combined with May's guitars once again gel perfectly.
"Seaside Rendezvous": This is the second of the "vaudeville/ragtime" songs on this collection. I think this is the best of three. The amazing thing is how both Mercury and Taylor simulate woodwind and brass instrument sounds with vocals.
"The Prophet's Song": This is a darker song than the rest of the album. It also has more of a theatrical feel as a throwback to the earlier days of Queen.
"Love of My Life": This has become a popular ballad by Queen - and Mercury in particular. I always felt it was a bid overrated, but the use of the Harp in this song by May once again shows how this group just finds new ways to broaden musically.
"Good Company": This is the third of the "vaudeville/ragtime" songs on this collection. This song is highlighted by May strumming a ukulele on this track combined with some Jazz guitar.
"Bohemian Rhapsody": This is just a legendary song. Music fans are well familiar with this song. I particularly love the three distinct parts to the song: 1) The Theatrical sounding ballad; 2) The Opera-tic choir performed by Mercury, May, and Taylor; and 3) The Heavy Metal-sounding jam led by May's guitars (my personal favorite).
"God Save the Queen": This is the album's wrap-up song as Queen covers the national anthem of the United Kingdom. May's guitars are done in the style of Jimi Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner". This song would become the trademark finale at live Queen shows.
Overall, this fourth album by Queen shows why they are a Hall of Fame band. This album is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommended.
- I found this album a bit difficult to get into... at first... but once I did it proved to be a work of unspeakable genius. This is, quite simply, one of the best rock albums of all time!
- When I first heard this album in a friend's car several years ago I knew I had to get it! Lively, tongue-in-cheek capering by a group that had so much to offer. Freddie Mercury's early death was a tragedy! At least we have this to remember just how versatile he was!

5 comments about Roger Waters - In the Flesh (Live).
- At nearly 2.5 hours, this concert DVD is an incredible bargain -- the equivalent of two CDs for less than the price of one. If you're an old Pink Floyd fan like me, you'll enjoy Waters' rendition of classic cuts from The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, and other PF epics, interwoven with a sprinkling of material from Waters' post-PF career. As other reviewers have noted, the visuals are pretty lame, but the music is great, and that's what counts, at least for me. If half-star ratings were allowed on Amazon I'd go with the consensus of 4.5 stars. Definitely a bargain at the price, though!
- Are you a "Fan" of "Pink Floyd"? If you are.... Buy this! the music is fantastic and the light show is great! I absolutely loved it!
- As an older Pink Floyd fan I appreciate this DVD as much if not more than the original music by Gilmour, Waters, Mason, & Barrett. Waters masterfully blends the music in a great concert that you'll want to watch over and over again. Doyle Bramhall and Snowy White play the guitar riffs and leads even better than the originals of yesteryear. If you watch this DVD your ears will fixate on the auditory teasings and you'll never want to turn it off. I play it while at work on my computer and simply minimize the video. Superb DVD!!!!!!
- Watching this DVD has to be done in an HDTV in order to fully enjoy the visuals. The music is fantastic and roger waters really puts in a performance worthy of the music he plays.
The guitar play is particularly wonderful, just top notch!
Buy the DVD it is an investment that you won't regret

- Many of my friends have issues with Roger Waters, but as for me I love him and his lyrics. He puts on one hell of show. When I first heard "It all makes perfect sense", I knew I had to get this live album. It is absolutly terrrific. Keep exploring Roger and keep reaching. I'm a fan.

5 comments about AC/DC: Plug Me In (3 disc Limited Edition).
- Although I don't consider my self a `hardcore" fan of AC/DC, I do enjoy most of what they have produced. That being said, I was a little let down by this DVD set. It's not bad. On the contrary it is quite well done. Some very interesting live segments. The problem I had with them is that they are not usually good or great live performances. Some of them are not much better than a bootleg. Most of the segments are of the obscure type. I wouldn't recommend this to casual fan; it's more designed for the hardcore fan.
- I shouldn't have a moral right to complain about the music I suppose. I'm a huge Motorhead fan after all. I know they're not playing nice melodies for middle aged women to swoon too. But Watching Angus Young on stage is probably the most annoying thing I've ever had to watch. I know, I know, they're a rock and roll band; how can they stand still when they're raaaawkin'? But how much can you take of watching a scrawny little midget with fly away long hair, often in school shorts strutting about stage, knees jabbing everwhere, shaking his head up and down almost non stop? Play the guiatar Angus! Hair goes up. Hair goes down. Hair goes up. Hair goes down. Hair goes up. Hair goes down. Hair goes up. Hair goes down. Up. Down. Up. Down.Up. Down. Up. Down.Up. Down. Up. Down. Up. Down. Up. Down. Up. Down. Up. Down. It's like effin' Chinese water torture after 5 minutes. Try turning off the sound and jsut *look* at them if you don't believe me.
But Rock and roll is supposed to be annoying you might say! Well here it's not so much rock and roll as something not dissimilar to Jar Jar Binks. Audio wise it may have it's merit. I'm not much of a fan, but I can see why people might like this. But watching AC/ DC, particularly Angus Young, on stage was incredibly grating. Maybe somebody should make a live AC/ DC DVD called "The Angus edit" removing all the Angus Young camera moments.
- This is a great collection to add to your AC/DC stash! So much great footage, good quality and totally worth it if you're a big fan!
- Play this loud. Lots of vintage clips, and stuff from the vault. The boys rock with endless energy.
Enjoy
- if you are a fan of old and new acdc this is a must for any collection

5 comments about Night Ranger's Greatest Hits.
- You know your getting old when Night Ranger is played on the olddies channel! Cool music though.
- Night Ranger was a solid pop-rock band that charted hits from 1982-1988. This album compiles all of those songs, although some of them never saw the happier side of the Top 40 charts. The big tunes are here, such as "When You Close Your Eyes" (a personal favorite), "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" and "Four In The Morning." Also included are "Eddie's Comin' Out Tonight," "The Secret of My Success," and "Rock In America." Needless to say, Night Ranger was billed as a rock act (and some of the tunes here attest to that), but they flourished with power ballads. The granddaddy of them all, "Sister Christian," is also on this album, but it wouldn't be a greatest hits package without it.
If you like your rock a little bit heavier than REO Speedwagon but not quite as heavy as Def Leppard, Night Ranger will suit all of your needs. They are a product of the 80's and deserve any accolades that they've received for being as such. I highly recommend this album to fans of Night Ranger as well as anybody who enjoys tunes from bands like Survivor, Bad English, and any of the power ballads that ruled the 80's.
- Night Ranger had some likable rock songs, but they especially had some great ballads. This CD has both. Some of their best-known (and highly recommended) rock songs are "You Can Still Rock In America" "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" & "Secret Of My Success." On the lighter side, one has to appreciate "Sing Me Away" "Goodbye" and their biggest hit "Sister Christian."
Lead singer Jack Blades does especially well to not be too whiny or too screechy on the ballads, which can be a downfall to a number of other hard rock ballads from this this time period. This is the best of what the band has to offer and these are some good offerings.
- This is a CD that should belong on any music lovers list. Night Ranger is one of he best bands of all-time. With songs like "Sister Christian", "Goodbye", and "When You Close Your Eyes" as well as many other classics. This is a great CD it has been remastered very well so the sound quality is great. I highly suggest that you buy this CD today.
- Night Ranger is one of those good time bands that are best represented by a Greatest Hits collection. The songs here are all great with the exception (for me) the awful David Foster produced "The Secret Of My Success."
Sing Along, Now!
1. (You Can Still) Rock In America
2. Sing Me Away
3. Goodbye
4. When You Close Your Eyes
5. Sister Christian
6. Don't Tell Me You Love Me
7. Sentimental Street
8. The Secret Of My Success (UGH!)
9. Restless Kind
10. Four In The Morning
11. Eddie's Coming Out Tonight
12. Rumours In The Air
Good Stuff! It's not meant to be earth shattering or life altering. It's meant to be fun!
As a end note....Both Night Ranger's 1997 "Neverland" and 1998 "Seven" are worth a listen.

5 comments about Snakes & Arrows.
- I think this album gives a fine example of a great band with 30 years together can still create some great musical ideas. Alex's guitar playing shows a restrained maturity, and the emphasis on accoustic guitar really complements the album. I really liked Malignant Narcissism, as it builds a unique groove, and Alex's work on "Hope" which is really a standout on the album. Geddy seems to have found a new voice which is less shrill and surprisingly powerful. Niel's drum work is, of course, flawless throughout-- refined, tight and perfect. Lyrically, sometimes Neil strays a little too far into the "what is it all about" territory, but in general, a lot of emotion comes through in the material.
- its frick n great, and amazing these guy have been play n so ong n through so much and havnt lost a bit of what they have always had, so this album is just more of what we love, damn their good, just remember this is a dvd, not a cd, but its not a video, its a dvd so you can listen to it in 5.1, if you dont have that but the cd, if you do you may want to buy both, unless your car has a dvd player, injoy mates!
- I'm writing this review of Snakes and Arrows by RUSH on Neil Peart the drummer's 56th birthday September 12th - happy birthday Mr. Peart sir! I am 37 and for the most part heard the drum fills for Tom Sawyer when I was 10 years old so I've been their biggest fan for 27 years or more. My name is Ian Mitnick in Baltimore Maryland. If Neil knew me he'd want me to say happy -56th bithday (he's getting younger!!) "Far Cry" is excellent and my 4 year old drummer nephew loves it and I've been a drummer since 2 years old starting with Gene Krupa. Every song is great on Snakes and Arrows! "Armor and Sword" is powerful with that eerie dissonance "no one gets to their heaven without a fight" - Workin them angels uses words Neil put in one of his books - its great - "The larger Bowl" is pretty and honest about money and such - I really like "Spindrift" about love and feelings - Neil is the best rock drummer in the world, Geddy is the rock bassist in the world, Alex Lifeson is so special and underated as the best rock guitarist - RUSH is the greatest. "Good news first", Alex's gorgeous "Hope", I could go on and on - you ARE missing out if you don't get into RUSH and buy their Thanksgiving 2008 live concert DVD!!
- Five years after the decent, yet sonic catastrophe that was Vapor Trails, Rush returns with this masterpiece, their first since Power Windows, back in 1985. With repeated listenings, this album will open up to you - like a blooming rose.
- I don't understand all the hype and all the praise over "Snakes & Arrows"... IMO "Vapour Trails" is waaaay better... there's nothing here (on S&A) as strong as "One Little Victory" or "Earthshine" (to name just two)
