- I am about the biggest LZ fan there is but I goto tell you.If you like harsh, bright, and loud then by all means buy this.If you want to hear Led Zeppelin in a warm and natural way do yourself a favor and buy a turntable and the 200 Gram LP reissues from Classic records. After a few listens you will toss this in the trash.
- So you are thinking to yourself: I have everyone of these Led Zep songs. Got the box sets, the "other" greatest hits cd. Why should I plunk down $18 to buy the same old tunes in yet another repackaged cd? Because it is worth it based on the total overall package. The inner booklet is crammed with informative tidbits and pics plus a song by song description of when it was released, etc. Sound and mix is so outstanding, its like hearing these songs for the "first" time. They could have used Fool In The Rain and Dancing Days instead of Nobody's Fault But Mine and Achilles Last Stand, but that's my personal choice. Highly recommended!!!! Especially if you are one of the few Earthlings who has never heard of Led Zep, this would be a great intro into the mystical, magical and musical world of Plant, Page, Jones and Bonham.
- How many times does Led Zeppelin need to be remastered? Zeppelin has long been a high-water mark for audio mastering... screwing with it to make it "louder" is sacrilege. It's called "dynamic range," people. That "fatter sound" that you love to hear from today's radio crap is compression killing sonic clarity. There's no way around the trade off between dynamic range and compression.
But the worst part about this CD, despite all the great tracks it includes, is all the great tracks that it's missing. I could do without "Communication Breakdown" (a great song, but one that has been superseded by other better songs), "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You," "Since I've Been Loving You," "Stairway to Heaven" (as if we haven't heard it enough already), "No Quarter" (a song I've always hated), "Trampled Under Foot," and "Achilles Last Stand." I know some of these are inexplicably popular enough to throw on a greatest hits CD, but they're not my first choices.
If I had to choose 24 Zeppelin tracks, here's what I would pick:
"Good Times Bad Times"
"You Shook Me"
"Dazed and Confused"
"How Many More Times"
"Whole Lotta Love"
"What Is and What Should Never Be"
"The Lemon Song"
"Ramble On"
"Bring It On Home"
"Immigrant Song"
"Black Dog"
"Four Sticks"
"When the Levee Breaks"
"Over the Hills and Far Away"
"Dancing Days"
"The Ocean"
"In My Time of Dying"
"Kashmir"
"Nobody's Fault But Mine"
"We're Gonna Groove"
"I Can't Quit You Baby" (Coda)
"Traveling Riverside Blues"
"White Summer - Black Mountain Side"
"Hey Hey What Can I Do"
I would have listened to that all the way through instead of skipping half the tracks the first time around like I did with "Mothership." My list is surely different than some people's taste in Zeppelin, but the fact is that several of the songs included are great, but have been ruined by overexposure. For instance, after "Rock and Roll" became mentally attached to a car commercial in my head, I lost all desire to listen to it again (which is a shame because it's a good song).
I know people are going to hate me for putting down this CD and some of their favorite songs, but these just aren't all the best Zeppelin songs in my opinion, and I think it's a mistake for Jimmy Page to keep screwing with his material over and over again, the way George Lucas ruined the Star Wars films. You want Zeppelin louder? Turn the volume up! There's a reason why the "punchier" music of today sounds so much more duller than music from the 60's and 70's.
Plus, I already own all of these songs.
- The re-masters of these songs are fantastic. SAVE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SHAMELESS CASH IN. Get it at the library. WAIT FOR INDIVIDUAL ALBUM RE-MASTERS TO GIVE MONEY.
- I love Led Zepplin and this package has all the great songs rolled into 2 cd's along with footage from their concerts. Anyone who is a Led Zepplin fan, this is a must for their library

- The best songs Kansas did, plus a few extra cuts. What more could you ask?
- KANSAS - The Best of Kansas (1999) (**** ) 12 tracks (65:31)
This is the expanded version of The Best of Kansas that came out in 1984 on vinyl. The earlier version had only 9 songs on it. This 1999 update includes The Pinnacle, The Devil Game, and the "Live" version of Closet Chronicles, previously on the 2 record set, Two For The Show.
For a single disc "Best of", it's not bad. KANSAS has so many great tracks from a dozen albums it's hard to decide exactly what to include. The easy ones are the definitive hits, such as Dust In the Wind, Carry On Wayward Son, Song for America, and Hold On.
For the Fans who want everything that KANSAS has to offer, it's an easy choice, since this CD is the only place to obtain the Live version of Closet Chronicles that was omitted from the Compact disc version of Two for the Show, so it could a single disc also. Otherwise, this is just a place for the casual fan to get some basic KANSAS music. A good place for someone to get acquainted with the bands most popular songs. Isn't that what "Best of's" are for?
True fans will already have all the bands individual CD's.
-
The Best of Kansas offers most of their best songs, but you know, there's NEVER been a case where I was completely satisfied with a compilation disc. It's because once you explore an artist more, you realize their Best of or Greatest Hit collection can't possibly capture their best moments. And since "the best songs" and "their biggest hits" are two separate things, this CAN'T be the Best of Kansas. It's missing a few highly memorable progressive rock tunes, especially some of their songs from the first two albums. As someone who's a fan, I don't like that very much. But then again, as a fan, I don't need this album. I recommend you pick up the first two albums to hear what Kansas was like in the early days and then pick up one of their later albums to see where they ended up.
- I first bought this album back when It was first released. Excellent complilation. I loved every song on here and eventually since then I went out and bought every CD. I even liked " Perfect Lover" and was disappointed that it was not included in the remaster. They could have included it and still included the three extra tracks. "Closet Chronicles" was an excellent choice to include as an extra track.
- I can't claim to be a long-time highly knowledgeable Kansas fan, but I found nary a weak track here.

- I am very happy with my recent purchase. Bon Jovi is the greatest band.
Thank you for sending me this so quickly.
- I have been a long time fan of Bon Jovi and love this album!! As a compilation of his earlier work a new fan can hear some of the most famous Jovi songs and still appreciate the new stuff he's released. His vocals are great and the guitar playing is phenomenal!!. If you are into rock, and heavy guitar you should definitley get this and if you are a long time fan of Jovi as I am you owe it to yourself to have this rock'n collection if you don't already!!
- My favorite music when driving my Mustang with the top down on a cool spring day.
- Very happy with this purchase - I like all the songs on this CD - also very prompt delivery.
- Even when my Rock music feedback is mainly based on British "Classic" and "Heavy Metal" Rock (i.e. Yes, ELP, Genesis, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull et al), I must admit that Bon Jovi is, certainly, ONE OF THE BEST ROCK BANDS EVER (Made in America)!!!
This album includes almost every known major "Hit" of this talented Band.
No loss for your Rock collection!

5 comments about Greatest Hits by Pat Benatar.
- THE BAND: Pat Benatar (vocals) and Neil Giraldo (guitars, keyboards) on all tracks... and over the years - Scott St.Claire Sheets (guitars), Roger Capps (bass), Donnie Nossov (bass), Frank Linx (bass), Fernando Saunders (bass), Charlie Giordano (keyboards), Kevin Savigar (keyboards), Glen Alexander Hamilton (drums), Myron Grombacher (drums).
THE DISC: (2005) 20 tracks clocking in at approximately 79 minutes. Included with the disc is a 10-page booklet containing black & white photos of Benatar, song titles/credits (no song lyrics), Billboard chart success of each single, a brief statement from several female artists inspired by Benatar (including Joan Jett, Martina McBride, Sarah McLachlan, Martha Davis, Tori Amos, etc), what songs came from which albums and year released. This compilation follows Benatar from 1979-1988. Remastered sound. Label - Capital Records.
ALBUM REPRESENTATION: In The Heat Of The Night (2 songs), Crimes Of Passion (4), Precious Time (3), Get Nervous (3), Live From Earth (1), Tropico (2), Seven The Hard Way (3), Wide Awake In Dreamland (2).
COMMENTS: 4 Grammy's, 6 platinum albums, 4 gold albums, 19 Top 40 hits... if you're a rock fan, you need some Pat Benatar in your collection. Over a dozen studio albums and almost as many hit compilations from Benatar... what hits package do you ultimately reach for? Looking for an in-depth purchase, go with the 3-disc set "Synchronistic Wanderings" (1999) containing 53 songs (all the hits, several live tracks, B-sides, and alternative takes) - truly a grand collection of master female rocker Pat Benatar. However, if you're looking for that one disc, that gives you just the popular hits... this "Greatest Hits" is the one. THE GOOD: All the staples are here - "Heartbreaker", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Hell Is For Children", "Treat Me Right", "You Better Run", "Fire And Ice", "Shadows Of The Night", "Precious Time", "Love Is A Battlefield", "We Belong", "Invincible", "All Fired Up", etc. The songs are presented in chronological order - always a bonus in my opinion - hearing the artist mature and change direction(s) over the years. The digital remastering is superb - crisp highs and deep bass tones. There are so many issues these days with `remastering'... where it seems whoever is behind the control board just pushes all the levels up to 11 and doesn't take anything else into consideration. On Benatar's "Greatest Hits" though, the songs sound perfect. The disc itself is packed full of music - just over 79 minutes worth. The liner notes are extensive - giving you pictures, inspirational notes from other female musicians, and specifics on the individual songs. THE NOT SO GOOD: Two (extremely) minor things... otherwise this disc is as close to perfection as it gets. In general, a vast majority of the compilations miss the boat. For the single disc though, the song selection is dead on accurate - there's not one song that isn't deserving to be here. 1st - personally, for many years I've been tired of the song "We Live For Love". I feel this song is dated and overplayed (at the time). With that being said though, "We Live For Love" deserves to be here - it was Benatar's 2nd Top 40 hit (behind only "Heartbreaker"). 2nd - I could nit-pick some more and say this disc is not all inclusive. You'll find nothing from "True Love" (1991), "Gravity's Rainbow", "Innamorata" (1997) or "Go" (2003). However, there's no room for another song on this disc. Most of the single disc mixes concentrate on Benatar in her prime (as does this one)... here's hoping an updated 2-disc version is released with some of her more recent material, cover tunes ("I Need A Lover" for one), live performances, etc. all together. OVERALL: Beginners and long time fans - start your collection here. If you're looking for one disc of Pat Benatar in her prime - her best hits in all their remastered glory - this is it (5 stars).
- I bought this CD because I love always loved Pat Benatar's music. I don't think she's ever done a song I didn't like. The only time I get to listen to this CD is when I'm working out on my ellipse machine. It keeps me motivated to continue until the end. It is currently my #1 choice.
- I've been wanting her Greatest Hits collection for some time. She is one of my favorites. I was not disappointed. I even discovered a couple of songs in the collection that I didn't remember that I also really like. Usually one buys an album and wastes money on songe they don't like, but not with THIS collection!!!
- If you're reading this review, then you're probably looking for an introduction to the music of Pat Benatar - maybe you've heard "Heartbreaker" on the radio or maybe you've played "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" on Guitar Hero. This CD does contain those tracks and many other great songs by Pat, but if you're looking for a broader introduction to her work I recommend you check out "Synchronistic Wanderings", a much more inclusive 3-CD set which you can get used from Amazon if you're willing to spend just a few more dollars. Many stunning tracks (Run Between the Raindrops, Outlaw Blues, Somebody's Baby, Every Time I Fall Back, etc) have been left off this CD, but are featured in "Synchronistic Wanderings".
One (minor) problem with this album is that a few of the songs have been shortened in length by a few seconds. That's understandable, as this CD approaches 80 minutes, but it's slightly annoying for musical purists like myself.
That being said, this collection is one of the better "Greatest Hits" albums out there.
- Shadows of the night is the short version on this CD. I would download the longer version. Otherwise the CD contains a collection of very good music. I highly recommend it.

5 comments about Houses of the Holy.
- There is no doubt that Houses of the Holy lacked the impact of Led Zeppelin IV; there is also no doubt that Zeppelin fans loved this album as they loved all of the band's work. In short, Houses of the Holy is neither the band's best nor worst album, but fans will find all of these songs to be essential to a complete understanding of Led Zeppelin.
However, there is a certain flatness about the studio versions of many of the songs on "Houses of the Holy" when one compares them to available live versions. For example, both "The Song Remains the Same" and "The Rain Song" are much more bombastic and powerful on the "The Song Remains the Same" live album than they are here. The same can be said for the brilliant extended version of "No Quarter" on "The Song Remains the Same" in comparison to the one here. The version of "Over the Hills" on "How The West Was Won" rocks much harder than this one. Finally, "The Crunge" sounds much better played live as a change of pace as part of the extended "Dazed and Confused" on HTWWW than it does here, with Jones's showy and utterly superfluous synth part and Plant's silly lyrics appended.
That leaves "Dancing Days", "D'yer Mak'er", and "The Ocean" to recommend "Houses of the Holy" as a studio album. These are each brilliant songs, with "Dancing Days" among the most affecting and enduring in the Zep catalogue (I love the synth part on the last verse in the "Houses of the Holy" version), "D'yer Mak'er" a hard-rocking reggae track which was foolishly dismissed by critics at the time for not being "authentic" but which in retrospect showed reggae's crossover potential, and "The Ocean" featuring one of the most distinctive guitar riffs in rock history.
- OK this is more like 1 of the greatest hits cd's but it was compiled at once. I absolutely love this album. Most of the tunes you will know if your a zepp fan at all. But if you were already a zepp fan you wouldn't be reading this review because you would already own this cd.
- I find this Zep album to be a slight detour from the previous four albums.
Oh don't worry about it straying too far from the main theam of Led Zepplin. It dose keep close to the path although songs like Dyer Maker and The Crung may have you scratching your head. Why Robert Plant decided to write a ragae love soug,I just can't for the life of me figure out where his brain want. The album makes up for it's mushiness in songs like The Ocean(definaly a good sign of things to come in future albums) Probibly my most favorite song on the album aside from The Song Remains the Same is Dancing Days. This little gem has a pecular quality about it that can somehow get into your dreams despite it's weak theam. Generally I find Houses of the Holley to be nice little rest stop between albums.
- There is a link between this English "heavy metal" group and the English progressive rock groups; as such, some progressive flourishes turn up here and there on this 1973 release. In fact, their distinctive treatment of the blues makes the music on Houses of the Holy sound otherworldly and somehow ancient (like a lot of progressive rock) - this is certainly one of my favorite Led Zeppelin albums.
The music on the Houses of the Holy presents a perfect balance of the thunderous hard rock aspects and the quieter, more contemplative moments (and there are a lot on this album). Pieces like The Rain Song with the soft mellotron pads, and the brooding, John Paul Jones led and synthesized bass - heavy No Quarter are both very pleasant. In addition, the acoustic textures on Over the Hills and Far Away also added a nice touch, along with unique interpretations of funk (The Crunge) and reggae (D Yer Mak er). I also really enjoyed John Bonham's thunderous drumming, brilliant guitar playing by Jimmy Page, and of course Robert Plants electrifying vocal style. All together, these elements made for a very exciting listening experience.
My decision to buy this remastered mini-LP version of the album was borne out of nostalgia alone. In this respect, I was not disappointed - the CD features good sound quality and is enclosed in a mini-LP jacket that is a fine replica of my old LP. Just a lot smaller.
Highly recommended along with the 1969 debut, Led Zeppelin III and Physical Graffiti.
- A while back, 'Rolling Stone' magazine called Led Zeppelin 'the greatest heavy metal band of all-time.' I have to agree with them. I don't think Zeppelin falls under the metal genre, but they are pretty heavy. I'd say just hard rock, in general.
Anyhow, the 1973 classic sounds just as good today as it did all those years ago. John Bonham's drumming in 'The Ocean' is worth the price of the album alone, and Plant's timeless voice on 'The Rain Song' followed by peaceful guitar from Jimmy is essential.
The whole record is a masterpiece. 'The Song Remains The Same' is arguably the heaviest song the group ever recorded, and 'D'yer M'aker' samples a more reggae sound. Bonham's drumming is slower on this one than usual, but it's still timeless.
Overall, if you don't have this record already, you are missing out. Highly recommended for any Zep fan. A masterpiece.
ENJOY!!!

Total Time: 94 mins on DVD ~ Koch Vision 6567 ~ (8/05/2008)
- REO Speedwagon performs at a level on this Soundstage concert that rivals their heyday. Included is nearly every hit, many of the classics, and includes 4 songs off the new "Find Your Own Way Home" album. Only missed "Everything You Feel" from the new album that would have made this absolutely complete. But the best part of this DVD is that, after rockin through the hits, classics, and new music, during the encore it includes "Golden Country", never before available on video. This REO classic is probably the most underrated classic rock anthem song ever, and seems be relevant more today than when written by original lead guitarist Gary Richrath back in 1972. This live performance and the new album shows that REO is refreshed and still able to put out.
- REO is still rollin at full speed!!!. I saw the band at the height of their success on the "High Infidelity Tour", (along with 18,000 others at that particular time,) and i enjoyed this show as much as that! This is a great show, the stage, the sound, and song mix of old and new tunes are perfect.Although the crowd on this show is much smaller than the full size arena show when I saw them, the energy level between the band and the crowd is well documented here!Do not miss this dvd!!!
- This is the best dvd REO Speedwagon has come out with and the best live concert dvd I have ever seen. It's in HD. It has 5.1 surround. REO is entertaining and energetic through the entire set. Where is the hall-of-fame nod for this band? C'mon. This band is real big into charity whether it's participating in an event or creating their own fundraiser to benefit others. Great group of people surround the REO camp. Give back to REO. Buy this dvd - then buy their latest cd "Find Your Own Way Home". Or, go see a live show.
- I also just saw this concert on PBS, and was FLOORED. It is obvious that these guys have been performing live, non-stop since the late 1970s. On stage, these guys are a well oiled machine. The talent and skills are higher now than when they released Hi Infidelity. My wife and I watched this concert over and over on our Tivo, and like this live concerts vertions of the REO songs better than the original album vertions. The audio and video quality of the broadcast concert were outstanding and I hope it is on this DVD also. I am trying to find this concert on Blu Ray, but if it is not offered that way, I will still buy the regular DVD vertion because this is a performance I know I will enjoy with my wife for years to come.
After being so impressed with this, I will admit that my wife and I went to the REO Speedwagon web site to see if we can go see them live in concert! I have not been to a concert in over 20 years, but can't wait to see these guys in person.

5 comments about Heart: Alive in Seattle [Blu-ray].
- Ann's voice is as strong as ever and Nancy still looks cute as she jumps up and down while strumming power chords! ;)
This is a great performance with strong picture quality and excellent sound quality. One of the bad things about the HD DVD - Blu Ray war was picking a side and having titles released exclusively in the format you didn't own. This was originally released on HD DVD and I was able to catch the show on HD Net. I knew that I'd add it to my collection once it was released on blu ray.
This has a good set list with a little Led Zeppelin thrown in too. This is a must for die hard Heart fans and for others who'd like to add a Heart concert disc to their collection.
- I bought this as an upgrade to the stardard version on Dvd i owned. I thought it would be a huge upgrade considering all the great reviews. I loved this performance however if you own it on reg dvd its not worth the upgrade. save your money. the audio quality is no better than regular DTS.
the picture quality is only slightly better.
- Well, despite the passage of the years, the voice is still there. A few of the tracts, Barracuda in particular, raised the hairs on my neck just like when I was in speeding down some Virginia country road many years ago. Worth the price of admission.
- I was wondering if it was a good idea to buy a DVD of a reunion concert of a band which was famous twenty years ago. So many bands and publishers are are presenting us with total rubbish, as long as they can have something on DVD. My fondness of Heart won me over and I got the DVD. And I am so glad I did!
This DVD is high quality, from beginning to end and is obviously not just a "reunion concert".
The live show must have been spectacular, as the Wilson sisters still have what it takes, in abundance. The show was filmed in the Paramount in Seattle in front of a home crowd, and it shows. The editors really captured the crowd's dedication and enthusiasm very well, and the interaction between audience and band is great.
The band in itself is also great and deliver a flawless performance. The sisters were in top form and obviously having the time of their lives up there. Anne Wilson delivered a dynamite performance which, during numbers like "Mistral Wind" were nothing short of monumental. Nancy Wilson, although much more understated, showed, yet again, why the Wilson sisters have built up such a formidable reputation and following over the years, as they are truly masters of their craft.
The selection is also commendable. They seem to have struck an ideal balance between old staples, new compositions and covers (of Elton John and Led Zeppelin). And, the new stuff is GOOD! All the obvious choices (Barracuda, Magic Man, Dog and Butterfly) are also included.
One thing which fascinates me, is how Nancy Wilson's whole demeanor changes with each instrument she plays - to see how she becomes more romantic playing acoustic instruments, bubbly when she straps on a Telecaster and almost dangerous when she starts slinging her Gibson SG around! Very intersting.
Make no mistake: watching this DVD will bring on the nostalgia, BIG TIME!
This DVD is a must for every Heart fan. If you are not a Heart fan, this is the PERFECT place to start!
- I have to agree, although I didn't receive my copy on Blu-Ray yet, I saw this concert on HD-DVD several times and it is my favorite Concert DVD so far. I hope the sound on Blu-Ray is as good (or better) than it was on HD-DVD. A must have!

5 comments about Steve Miller Band - Live From Chicago.
- The show was great. Steve had really good players w/him.. With all the music he has recorded I don't know why he has to throw in copy tunes of other bands even if they were some of his fav. musicians. The only other thing about the dvd I didn't like was the price was a little high compared to other dvds. Sound was very good & the venue looked very nice. The cameras liked blonde women in the audience.. lol.
- I recently saw Steve Miller Band perform live in concert in San Francisco, so when I heard they were releasing a new cd/dvd, I just had to get it. I'm so glad I did! Excellant CD! It has most of his greatest hits. The DVD is great to watch. Its about 90 minutes long and it pretty much is identical to the concert that I saw him perform in March 08. I highly recommend this collection, you wont be disappointed!!
The only part of the entire CD I didnt care much for was the version of "Fly like an Eagle" which incorporated some rap lyrics from their keyboardist. The rap music was done tastefully, but personnally I dont care for rap and think SM should have left it out. Other than that, EXCELLANT gift set!!!!!!
- Love the concert but the audio CD snapped upon first removing as it was extra tight. I actually give it 5 stars but posted 1 star to draw attention to let people know to be more careful than I was when removing the disk.
- this is a great concert, the sound is exelenct, and steve miller still has it. I waited for this dvd, and it was worth wating for.Worth the money,go for it.
- This concert jams! Stevie "guitar" Miller is still the bluesy rocker of all times. The concert is and was (I say the show in Los Angeles) proof that time can stand still for reliving the past. Highly enjoyable and the accompanying cd jams! Buy it you"ll like it.

- This is a a great album containing some of their biggest, most well known hits that are still being played on the radio today. If you're not really a big Bon Jovi fan and are not interested in acquiring their individual albums, or even their greatest hits compilations, but would like some of their best songs in your collection then this is the one to get! (the price is a steal nowadays!) Some albums have only one ot two great songs, this has several: "Livin' on a Prayer", "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Wanted Dead or Alive", "Raise Your Hands", "Without Love"...good value!
- The mid to late 80's, 1986-87 in particular, was a great time for music. This album came along at just the right time for me, age 11-12, just when I was really starting to get ''into'' music. I love almost all of the music from this time period, and this album is no exception. A friend of mine had the cassette, and when I would go over to visit we would listen to the tape from start to finish. At the same time, take the liner notes and work on memorizing all the lyrics. I now have the newly remastered CD, and when I pop this in the player, I still listen from start to finish. The new remaster is great, this album sounds better than ever. This is pop-metal at it's finest. From start to finish, all songs are great. To listen, brings back great memories, and is still great today, in my book. 'Wanted Dead Or Alive', 'You Give Love A Bad Name', 'Livin On A Prayer', Never Say Goodbye', many great classics are here. For me, there's nothing else I can add, just let the music do the rest of the talking. Buy it, listen, and rock on!
- This music is really great if you are an 80's and 90's hair band lover! Great Tunes!!
- The 1980s were certainly a very eclectic time for output in popular music. Especially for those of us who came of age during that decade. On the positive side, we had timeless albums such as The Joshua Tree, Moving Pictures, Master of Puppets and Remain in Light, among others.
Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet represents the bad side of the 80s - generic songs; a soulless processed drum sound; and over-produced "anthems." Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Poison, all members of a shallow, talentless club.
- Bon Jovi have copped heaps of flak over the years and their seeming decision to rely utterly on their sales figures as a defence is perhaps indicative itself of some of their limitations but lets stop the nit-picking for a moment and give credit where it is due because this is a great AOR-bordering-on-hard-rock album.
The production by Bruce Fairbairn and the entire feel of the record are huger than huge. The songs are catchy and melodic yet still utilise the full band sound typical of hard rock bands despite many of the sentiments put forth are teeny AOR in the extreme. Somehow with this album the uplifting buoyancy of proceedings sounds unmatched by just about any other record in this sphere, the brainless good times just washing over the listener with frontman and namesake Jon as circus master, leading you through a journey of boisterous yet playfully G rated rockers like the massive hits You Give Love A Bad Name and Livin' On A Prayer, songs that still sound good today.
Other rockers are also pretty darn handy as opener Let It Rock pronounces that yes this band is an animal that still remembers the jungles planet bar band. Social Disease is both tongue in cheek and serious all at once, walking a fine line and I recall side one (in the old money) finishing with one of the crowning achievements of the entire BJ catalogue in the form of Wanted Dead or Alive. This is an exellent song full of more genuine emotion than any two or three more traditional BJ ballads and is deservedly more remembered than any of them.
As side two - as it was called when this thing originally came out, rolled along it was obvious that the good time rockin' was very much part of the very heartbeat of this band with numbers like Raise Your Hands with massive production values that made much else of what was around sound very very yesterdays news. Ditto for Wild in the Streets as long as you can get over the idea of Bon Jovi being genuinely wild. Alas for side two there are the blights of three ballads in a row but for the times they were pretty spot on. The tryptych does make me think twice about giving this ablum five stars and perhaps I'm being generous, but I figure my gut feeling is the right one here as despite this thing being very calculated indeed, why not? I mean if you take yourself seriously as this mob have steadfastly done then why not calculate your albums?
Anyway, that's my two cents worth regarding this quintessential party rock album that all these years later is probably still the main album this band is known for.

- Received this item in prompt time, packaged and parcelled to my perfection will shop again and again with Amazon. Very sound.
- Wow, this is one powerful rock album. It pack a serious MEAN and NASTY punch. It's raw, straight forward, simple rock and roll with the volume turned WAY up. But wait! That's not all! The band members also give us some highly enjoyable guitar soloing in the title song. This band was truly at their very best in the early days.
Pick it up today and hear how AC/DC used to sound a long time ago when rock and roll was all about innovation and power. Why didn't hard rock bands hold back in the early days? Because it would have been boring to do so. AC/DC knew that's not the direction they wanted to take their music. They didn't want to be the first band to hold back their amazing talent.
When albums this good are released, you just don't know what to DO with yourself. You can't believe the speakers in your home haven't rocked all the way across the living room and into the coffee table, knocking off flowers and coffee cups. A guitar sound SO LOUD it almost cracks the speakers in half and leaves you begging for more, despite the damage you know the guitar playing will cause to your stereo system.
But you know what? We keep coming back to it. We keep coming back to the music and we make it the greatest music we've ever heard in our lives.
- everyone should own and listen to this cd. it is some of ac/dc's best work.
- While I agree that the remastered AC/DC catalogue greatly enhances the listening experience of the Bon-era albums (esp. If you want blood.. - one of the best live rock recordings ever!!), the original remastered Oz edition of "Let There Be Rock" (circa 1992) should not be overlooked (assuming you can find it now!!) as it contains this classic, slow, bluesy masterpiece from Bon - think of it as an extension of 'The Jack' (same theme etc). I prefer this Oz version of the album over the recent remastered version which deletes this (too racy/controversial for international audiences apparently - and "The Jack" wasn't???). Anyway, enjoy this album and play it loud - one of the best albums done by the boys and one of the best hard-rock albums period. Even my hero, Dave Mustaine, has been quoted as having said that this AC/DC album ranks as one of his personal favourites - so it must be that good coming from the King of Thrash himself. Thanks for reading. Can't wait for the new AC/DC album and the promised extensive tour of their homeland - Oz. Cheers, Mark
- I just picked up all the old AC/DC albums and was really impressed. The sound quality on the re-mastered CDs is so much better than my older versions. After hearing one, I immediately replaced all the old CDs. Its a breath of fresh air for this music, it feels live, raw, and right in your room.
