- I was so looking forward to this release and I am just as depressed.
If you are fan of a vocalist who screams, no need to read any further.
I have always liked the music of Trivium, but the vocals on the earlier albums made them unlistenable. The Crusade was such a big step forward and one of my favorite metal albums. I had hoped they would continue with that trend ala A7X and BFMV - bands that used to scream and not sing.
Sadly, Trivium has gone the other way and now screams more than sings.
Fell free to buy my copy off of Amazon.
- Personally, I gotta give it to these guys: this album really kicks balls and was well worth the wait. Literally from start to finish a killer modern metal album. I purchased release day and it's been spinning ever since. These guys are truly underrated and this stuff is deeper and more technical than they're given credit for. It's definitely an upgrade compared to "FROM EMBER TO INFERNO" (meh) , "ASCENDANCY" (which I really dug) and "THE CRUSADE" (which was ok), much darker and more epic.
If you're a fan of they're older material you'll absolutely love this one. As Heafy himself said, "SHOGUN is the past, present, and future of TRIVIUM". Pick it up!!!
- This album is excellent. They take the best of Ascendancy and The Crusade and combine them to produce there best album yet! The DVD has the making of the album along with instructions on how to do the riffs on the songs. I would have liked some music videos or some live performances on the DVD but I gotta say, I love this album and honestly think that the quality you get is fantastic. My fav metal album this year.
- First off, I chose to buy this edition for the three bonus tracks which I don't particularly find to be all that special. To add to that the DVD itself it very lame and I feel that it is set out to appeal mostly to juveniles. Half way through the DVD I literally got up out of my chair and went and washed my pile of dirty dishes. That's how boring it was to me.
With these complaints put out there now I will have to say that "Shogun" is an amazing album and is perhaps the best Trivium have put out thus far. The melodies are catchy, the riffs are brutal, and Matt Heafy has one of the best voices out there in the current era of Metal music (minus the John Pettibone style screams that he has started to use). Shogun is a 5 star album in my opinion so I recommend buying the regular version rather than this one, but of course the choice is yours, so buy which ever version you want. I honestly wish I had saved the six dollars and had just ordered the other one. Hope this is helpful!

- I bought the ep a few months back that included a couple songs from this new release. Last week I had the pleasure of seeing Marc perform live in Lowell MA and was looking forward to getting this new release. It's a solid effort and the previous reviewer hit the nail on the head. Marc is the funkiest white guy out there today. He has a fine voice and knows how to use it. The Real Thing should be a radio smash. There are many others fine songs on this cd, althought the two duets don't really do it for me, resulting in the 4 star rating. I look forward to seeing Marc back in the New England area and recommend that everyone go out and support this artist.
- I have kind of followed Marc Broussard froma distance for a awhile but he not an artist that I ever really considered one of my favorites. I love his song "Home" and also what songs I have hear from his last EP "Must Be The Water." So when I saw this record up on AOL to listen to for free I figured why not. After listening to it twice I decided to go get it. "Keeping Coming Back" is a southern record made by a southern boy, and I am not talking about southern rock. The first thing you notice about this record is the New Orleans, Louisana Bayou feel that permeates much of the album. From the jams to the mid-tempo numbers to the ballads you can feel it there in much of this album. I read on Wikipedia that Marc's father, Ted Broussard, is a Louisana Hall of Fame Guitarist and former member of The Boogey Kings, and you can really tell on this record that Marc grew up around this kind of music. And that is the feeling that I get when listening to this record, that Marc is playing the music he grew up listening to and learning from the guys that played it. And I don't mean as sort of kind retro vibe or as tribute to them, but that he is playing what comes naturally to him. This record covers the gamet from the funky to the bluesy to R&B to even some bluesy country (with guest vocals from LeAnn Rimes). I think it should also be stated that this guy has a great voice. He can sing next to LeAnn Rimes and not sound out classed. Instead he can match note for note and sound just as good. This record is enjoyable to listen to, and I promise you will find yourself bobbing your head while listening to it. It will also leave wanting to see Marc perform live. If you enjoy Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz, Gavin Degraw, or any artists like these, then check this one out.

- Wlasnie obejrzalem Dvd 'Heima'. Wystepy zespolu sa tu zgrabnie wplecione pomiedzy lokalne krajobazy (prywatny pokoj goscinny, protestowana zapora wodna, zapomniana przetwornia ryb, otwarte i klubowe sceny Reykiaviku), oraz krotkie wypowiedzi czlonkow zespolu.
Drugi krazek (150 min) jest zlepkiem zdjec koncertowych (czesc powtarza sie z pierwszego Dvd), i mozna sobie go odpuscic. Jednakze polecam pierwsza czesc 'Heima', chocby ze wzgledu na niechybna uczte wizualnych emocji.
- I take that back: a must watch, period! This music DVD contains 2 discs with material recorded during the band's 2006 homecoming tour through Iceland. Particularly special about it are the intimate (at times, unplugged) performances the band did for their fellow countrymen and women for free. Complementing these are some incredibly powerful (as in LOUD, get-off-your-seat-for-once) performances from their first four albums that are bound to have you give them all the respect they've earned as one of the best musical acts in the world today.
The first disc is peppered with interviews that give you an insider's view of the band and how they work together, their feelings about home and stardom and life at large. The second disc contains the complete performances without commentary, so you can focus on enjoying the music alone. Either way you look at it, you cannot pass this one.
- This documentary is a beautiful and magnificent exposition of the band, Sigur Rós, their exquisite music, and the awe-inspiring land that birthed them. I enjoyed every minute of this and literally had my breath taken by some the imagery. Worth it? Yes.
- Beautiful live dvd
If you are a fan of Sigur Ros or Iceland you will love this one.
- loved this video. The music is beautiful - even if the words aren't in English and the scenery is outstanding. I especially liked the energy of the show in Rejkavik -
The whole idea of touring Iceland and playing for free in a wide variety of venues - if you can call an open field or abandoned fish processing facility a venue, was charming and clearly illustrates the bands love and respect for their country.
Don' miss this film !

5 comments about Fight With Tools.
- Really enjoyed the song Handlebar and bought the cd when I first heard the song. I did not do any research and bought based on impluse. I was very surprised to find out that it was more hip hop than alternative. The lyrics are very charged and remind me somewhat of a cross between Eminem and Rage Against the Machine. It is nice to hear a band trying something new and the Flobots are very fresh and original. The price is right and if you are into new sounds give it a try.
- The CD "Fight with Tools" by Flobots, raps about issues that are facing the world today, a lot. You most likely heard about Flobots from their single "Handlebars" and if you are looking to get more of the same from this cd, stay away. That's not to say it's a bad CD, I enjoyed it. The use of instrumentals along with the hip-hop vocals is a nice combination for me. I recommend this purchase if you really liked "Handlebars" and are looking for a little variation in that music style.
- I recently bought this album after hearing "Handlebars" on a local station and have found myself actually enjoying many of the other tracks even more. I will say, their lyrics tend to be very political (along the lines of Rage Against the Machine) and if you don't agree then, well, you probably won't like the Flobots. I personally find the lyrics very powerful and inspiring, something frankly RARE in the realm of hip-hop (admittedly, I am more of an alt rock girl).
Musically, this band is simply amazing. Throwing trumpet and violin into the mix? Genius. (And I swear I heard a banjo on a couple of tracks.) "The Rhythm Method (Move!)" uses some of the craziest metric shifts I've ever heard in popular music. I have a degree in music and had to listen to this song about a dozen times to figure it out! (LOL, my music-fu may be slipping...) How many current artists out there even know what 7/8 time is?
If you like political lyrics with a strong message, buy this album. If you like some rap but are generally turned off by the messages, buy this album. If you like genre-crossing instrumentation, style, rhythm and real musicianship, buy this album!
- This band performed with "Rage Against the Machine" here in Denver during the Democratic National Convention. At the end of the show, most of the 7000 people in attendence joined a march led by "Iraq Veterans Against the War." See The Ground Truth and Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan: Eyewitness Accounts of the Occupations for more on that movement.
It was a powerful scene, as a couple thousand other people joined in the march to the Pepsi Center where the Dems were gathering. After being faced with a phalanx of a few hundred Robocops ready to pounce on protesters, an Obama representative came out and received the letter from the members of IVAW.
I noticed that Amy Goodman of "Democracy Now!" reported on this peaceable assembly, and used the Flobots' performance for their bumper music between news segments (see Democracy Now's 8/28/08 archive).
Just today I smoked a bowl and revisited this CD. The Benefits of Marijuana: Physical, Psychological & Spiritual
I'll be sharing this disc, a radical tool itself, with many others.
The viola is a great touch.

- Fantastic Album. Everlast brings an incredible comination to his music, depth and street credibility. His sound has matured in leaps and bounds since White Trash Beautiful (not saying that great album was bad, this album just sonically is much denser and layered). Lyrically he covers politically, emotions, love war (ie the title. Buy this album and you love it. Support independent artists.
Congrats Eric Schrodey, aka Everlasts.
- This album is simply amazing. Don't pass this one up if you like Everlasts singing.
- The only reason why I gave this album a 4 out of 5 stars is because of lofty expectations I had before its release. Although I truly enjoy how Everlast just seems to take you for a ride with every album he puts out, I was hoping for a little more hip hop on this album; especially with all the great tracks he puts out with La Coka Nostra. Needless to say, this release stands firmly on how versatile Everlast is as an artist, and how much he's matured ever since his days with the Rhyme Syndicate and solo debut, to House of Pain, to his solo projects and cameos, and of course, now with LCN. A strong and long-awaited album that will surely be revered by any real music fan that appreciates awesome talent. Big up Ev!
- Exquisite ... Everlast is fabulous and this CD provides an overview of all his many talents. From rock to folk to blues--incredible CD.
- Everlast should have done another White Trash Beautiful sound-alike. This isnt even really music, its his views on politics. He's extremely anti-Bush. If it werent for Bush Everlast wouldnt even be making music anymore, if it werent for Bush none of us would be doing anything we like doing. Terrorists bombed our buildings, we bombed back. Now whats wrong with that?
The best songs on the CD are Die In Yer' Arms and Saving Grace. Folsom prison Blues was alright but he should have lefted the Cypress Hill beats out of it. Hopefully the future holds another White Trash Beautiful sound-alike.

5 comments about The Quilt.
- The Quilt, as a whole, is probably better than 95% of the pop-rap/hip hop played on the radio today, it has deep lyrics (in some songs) and some decent beats. That being said, this is not at all what I expected from Travis. Papercut Chronicles was a real, raw, powerful album full of unpolished art... that's what made it so beautiful! When ACASC came out I think that everyone was a little bit worried that GCH may have sold out a bit, the album didn't have as many powerful songs as Papercut Chronicles, but still sounded decent. The Quilt, however, is a true sign of artistic departure. Every single song is overproduced and the lyrics are shallow and bland. Cookie Jar? DRNK TXT Rmeo? Are you kidding me? Is this the same Travis that said "F*** mass appeal, art is art?"
- Gym Class Heroes were coming off new found fame with their newest project titled 'The Quilt'. This album is NOTHING I mean NOTHING like anything you may have heard from them. Their first album was a very dark and gloomy album that caught many of their early fans by surprise and 'As Cruel As School Children' showed a very hungry and lively band...but 'Quilt' needs patchwork.
Lead Singer Travis McCoy went through many problems in the making of the album which included his addiction to drugs and family loses...which therfore makes the album 'Quilt'. A family theme can be felt with many shout outs to family and like the chorus of Peace Sign "F.U. this is for MY people" So here is the breakdown
Guilty As Charged (formally called Tell Hip-Hop)- This track is very lively, Estelle does a nice job holding the chorus...this was supposed to be a rap to hip/hop but...you can listen to this song and cannot see what this song has to do about hip hop. The chorus really saves the song.
6.5/10
Drunk TxT Romeo- Is a very cheap version of their MakeOut Club back in the Papercut Chronicle Days and has a very generic sound even with the original concept. He talks about his desire for women and how they are his 'obsession' towards them. It has the poppy feeling and may appeal to some audience but not the die-hard GCH fan.
5.5/10
Peace Sign- Again, this song shows off the band's originality with the chorus to make the middle finger towards the industry. He says that the poppy jingles are a thing of the past and are to leave yet makes many attempts to try to make them throughout the album. Busta Rhymes goes crazy on the Cool&Dre beat and does his usual thing as appearence. The third verse kinda makes you wish Busta was back on the mic, Travie somewhat bores you with the usual.
8/10
Like Father Like Son- Shows off the 'family theme' this album has. Travis talks about the life of his father and his life growing up with him. This song has a great piano roll and clap to make a very soothing sound. Travis pays appreciation towards his father for his hard work and the chorus explains how Travis always wanted to be in the cover of the Rolling Stone and always had his father to help him. He later goes on saying how he looked up to his father....sweet song...think of a Kanye's "Hey Mama"...a manlier version.
7/10
Blinded By The Sun- This song is a switch to the alternative rock road but by this point you are a bit 'Blinded' by Travis' repition of woman and uses the sun as metaphor for the truth to the number of lies woman have told him. It has a relaxing chorus and beat but the caution to this record is...theres just nothing special...this is a track you'd likely skip.
6/10
Catch Me If You Can- Before the album Travis had said this album would prove his lyrical ability...well this song sure does. The begining of the song shows how his lyrical creativity is up to par but the problem with this track is the bear is just strange. The beat kinda ruins the song...and the song might have been better off as an acappela. But never the less, his lyricism, when attempted, can be one that is uncontested...one of the best songs on the record.
7/10
Cookie Jar- Honestly, this is actually so freaking catchy...it's hard to not like it. The Dream is on a tear with his appearences and leaves a great chorus and Travie AGAIN talks about women...but this time uses a cookie as his metaphor. Catchy chorus but you kinda get the repition thing going on right now.
7/10
Live A Little- This sounds something off of Disney...I swear. This is just a teenage rock band thing going on. It is pretty catchy but this is something you could see the Jonas Brothers doing and that kinda scares off any avid GCH fan.
6/10
Dont Tell Me Its Over- The best song on the album, Travis lets off on the haters he's made since hitting stardom. He attacks those that criticize his success and does a good job doing it. Dre is on the hook from Cool&Dre and gives a real nice feeling that makes you want to press repeat. Travis mocks the fans that criticize him and gives it to his haters....If you want to see his lyrical ability...go straight to track 9.
"Dont be mad cause you flirted with a chick that had my tongue in her
esophagus"
8.5/10
Live Forever- Is obviously one of the most powerful songs GCH has ever made. This song deals with the death of Travis' cousin and the beautiful melody keeps the listener in awe. The Plane ride symbolizes the road to death and the window is like the last views of life while going to the 'last resort'. Haryl Oats does an amazing production and chorus job and this song is one that will inspire and if you are a BIG fan of the last two CD's...this song will be one of your favorites.
9.5/10
Kissing Ears- Another metaphor that Travis claims is his love for music but you cant help but think this is another poppy single with more and more about women...this really takes away from the last song...You go from soo very inspired and perplexed to...Kissin Ears??
6/10
Home- Is a GCH version of a homecoming party. This was used on Madden 09 i believe and is a hype song, very well written and something you would expect and like t hear from GCH. The guitar's from Cool&Dre give the song another hit. This gives more of Travis' lyrical contortion and does a well job of showing hip/hop that he's still got it...for this song at least.
7/10
No Place To Run- Is a very original band production which wasn't seen a lot in this album. This is another of the various songs that has singing in the begining...and this did not occur in the previous albums. More singing on how a couple can go and run away and how nothing can stop them. Its a nice cheery song and is reminiscent to something Yellowcard would make.
6.5/10
Coming Clean- Wow, well the original song leaked last year with just guitars so hearing this awful remake kind of sums up the album. Even with the time they had to record the album, it didn't show up in the music. Its about a girl...again...but according to Travis this may be his love for music...again. I liked the original but to use it as an outro just hurts a strong GCH fan. You feel so very disappointed....
5/10
This album had gems but are overlooked with the dirt poured on it. I cant honestly think the group can feel satisfied with the project...but this just may be it for the group. Most members have other endeavors going on...and Travis may just as well go solo and try out the rapper thing for a while.
Overall: 2.5/5
- Along with many other Gym Class Heroes fans, I had been waiting for this album to drop for quite a while now. I have played out their first few LP's more times than I can count on my IPOD. After listening to "The Quilt" a few times all the way through, I am extremely disappointed with almost every track. I tried to give it a fair shot and thought it might grow on me, but no such luck...
Their first few CD's had fresh beats, creative lyrics & didn't fall into that 1 or 2 hit category. On this album, Cookie Jar is a hot track but it gets played out quick and I would say the only redeeming song on the entire LP is Peace Sign / Index with Bustah Rhymes.
Too many ballads, TRL sounding top 25 tracks, etc... Just a huge let down after the first few albums.
- Gym Class Heroes have done it again! Front man Travis McCoy spits rhymes like baseball players spit gum. Fresh off spending the summer on The Vans Warped Tour, "The Quilt" is their latest release. It's appropriately titled "The Quilt" because it is indeed a coming together of a million little pieces. With tracks like "Peace Sign/Index Down" featuring Busta Rhymes, it's hard to imagine that this was the same band who put out "As Cruel as School Children" a little while ago.
There are however, several tracks which can be reminiscent of "As Cruel as School Children". "Blinded By The Sun" features Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump and is definitely going to be a fan favorite for those who loved "Cupid's Chokehold" and "Clothes Off!"
It's also nice to see Gym Class Heroes branch out into a little more hip hop as well. With guests such as The Dream, Dr. Dre, and Little Wayne, it's definitely going to be a hit with the hip hop crowd as well.
My favorite tracks are "Live a Little", "Kissin' Ears", and "DRNK TXT Rmeo".
- GCH's new album comes across as confident and fresh, I am a huge fan of the band and am continually impressed by the fact they are one of few hip-hop groups (aside from The Roots) to use instrumentation in their tracks rather than a drum machine (though there are a few exceptions to this on The Quilt). If you liked Cruel As School Children, you'll most likely not be disappointed by this, and you may find yourself liking GCH even more than you did. Recommended highly!

5 comments about rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003).
- Been listening to Pearl Jam for a while but had never bought any of their music and am pleasently suprised in that I thought I would like the older (relativly) stuff but I actually like the newer stuff a bit (not much) more. Overall a very good compilation.
- What Pearl Jam did, maybe even unwittingly, was to weld the thick sludgey minor-chord sound (and general angst) of grunge to arena size rock choruses and guitar power. In doing so, they managed to quickly outshine their nearest peers (Nirvana) commercially and ultimately become the vanguard for rock through the 90's. Along with Red Hot Chili Peppers and maybe Soundgarden, they shaped the sound of a decade and thrived to see their success sustained creatively.
"Rearviewmirror" reflects (har har) that 12 years between Ten and Binaural in solid fashion, even if does lean heavily on the first three albums. It also offers a dozen later track to show that, even while the band's spotlight had faded somewhat, albums like No Code were better even while the band purposely was making music that antagonized fans expecting more of "Jeremy." Treats like "Do The Evolution" and "Man Of The Hour" sound just as powerful as any of the pre-Vs. material.
And for those who argue that Eddie Vedder is a big old sourpuss, they miss out on fun stuff like the tribute to old 45's "Spin The Black Circle" or the totally unironic cover of "Last Kiss" (that actually hit the top ten in 1999). Guitarist Stone Gossard rips some particularly innovative riffs through the proceedings here, and it's worth noting that Goassard (as well as the rest of the band) usually co-wrote the band's songs. On "Rearviewmirror," they are divided into two CD's, with an "Up" disc of rockers and the "Down" side of more pensive or acoustic material.
It is the second disc where more of the interesting material lies for me. I've always personally felt "Better man" to be the best song Pearl Jam ever wrote, and the closer, "Yellow Ledbetter" is a damn good blues number with Mike McCready hitting a terrific facsimile of Jimi Hendrix. There is plenty of meat spread between the two discs, and for the casual radio fan of Pearl Jam, this is a great sampler at a fine price.
- I'm going to take a different approach to reviewing albums on Amazon. Instead of going in depth on each album and describe each album in detail, i'm going to simply rate each album with how many stars I feel each album is worth based on the below criteria. I hope this helps you make a better decision on purchasing this album with a simple individual rating. If it doesn't help read another review.
5 stars- Classic, Album goes beyond description, Perfect in every way, Could remind you of a certain time or place, Lifetime replay value.
4.5 stars- Near Classic, Incredible album, Maybe only one song that is skippable or just overall doesn't quite deserve classic status. High replay value.
4.0 stars- Awesome album. Very solid album from start to finish. Met every expectation and more. Maybe only one song or two that is skippable. High replay value.
3.5 stars- Above average album. Solid from start to finish but there are a few songs worth skipping. Met expectations, minimal replay value.
3.0 stars- Average album. Nothing bad but nothing great either. After the initial appeal will collect dust.
2.5 stars- Major disappointment. You had high expectations that were ruined as this album is not good at all. There might be only one or two songs worth listening to. No replay value.
2.0 stars- Below average album. This album doesnt bother you to hear as background music but you would rather not listen to it if you didnt have to. No songs really appeal. No replay value.
1.5 stars- Terrible album. Makes one sick to hear it. Would rather throw in garbage than even waste space in your collection.
1.0 stars- Makes one cringe and the ears bleed!
*keep in mind, each album review might not be based on opinion of the band but the album itself in the bands discography.
- What "Nirvana" was to some Pearl Jam was to me There is a lot of "mystery" in Ed Veds voice He doesnt wear it all on his sleeve like cobain did. I can appreciate that, as well as the lyrics. From Yellow Ledbetter to Once its an "Evenflow" from front to back on this CD.
- Somehow I slept through the grunge rock movement in the 90s and missed this. I vaguely remember hearing PJ back then wondering how people could listen to this and call it music. Years later, I was exposed to the alternative rock music genre and "got it."
If you missed the boat, this is a great way to get into PJ's music and get a sampling of their hits from different albums. Some of these hits are lovely acoustic songs or blistering electric songs you can really rock to. To improve things, you get some remastered hits and get a much better listening experience than you would ever get from the original recordings.
If I really could get what I wanted, I would want a remastered PJ "Ten" album, which I think is the best PJ album. Until then this may be the best I can get. But this collection of the faster Up Side hits and slower ballad Down Side gives me a nice way to learn about the PJ albums I missed.
This collection fits together well with Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, and Bush grunge hits.

5 comments about Little Voice (2 CD Set).
- I had already decided to adopt Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" as the best album for the year of 2008, but then I got introduced to a song called "Gravity."
I couldn't rest until I got my hands on this album, and from start to finish Bareilles is simply superb. Every arrangement is touching, and her soulful, melodic voice gives me chills. I've been carrying it around in my mp3 player, and for the exception of one song, I've rated the entire album with four, five stars all throughout.
Sara's writing skills are simply one of the best out there. She infuses her melodies with heart. This is not music just for the sake of success. It is true art, and I am now a huge fan.
- We recently saw her in concert with Maroon Five and Counting Crows. She was amazing so we ordered the CD. Sara Bareilles is a major talent.
- I listened to this the first time and admit (moronically so) I found it to marginally good at best. Well, then I listened to about a dozen more times and, like a heroin addict was hooked and can't hear it enough. The writing is incredibly wonderful, the arrangement nearly perfect, and the vocals of this woman come from - well, I don't know where they come from, but are distinctive, moving, and relateable (sic). They come from the heart and reek of experience. While they are mostly love songs, they are no where being sentimental drivel. If you haven't heard this CD then you are sadly missing some of the most beautiful music on the planet. I love this CD. Go get it now...it is brilliant.
Oh, and her piano playing ability is, to me, pure genius.
- This is my first introduction to Sara Bareilles and I love her CD.The songs that stand out for me are the pure, soulful sounds in 'Gravity' and 'In Your Eyes.' Some of the tracks get a little too poppy for me reminiscent of Michelle Branch. But this gal can certainly sing her heart out on those Fiona Apple-style,heart-wrenching songs. It is that alternative folk-meets-contemporary that reaches me...similar to another artist Arrica Rose in her album La La Lost who I also recommend highly for her soulful, sometimes poppy but powerful music.
- I can't get enought of this CD. Ms. Bareilles has an amazing talent that can hardly be described. Similar to Eva Cassidy, she has a voice that is so rich and passionate and she means every word she sings.
