- This is essentially a specifications manual. It
is a very important book if you plan on purchasing a
Bonneville and you want to verify serial numbers, color,
options, etc. With this book you will be able to tell
whether someone painted the bike a different color or if
they are trying to sell you something other than what they
say; e.g., a 100% stock original bike.
- This work is essential in restoring any Bonneville. It contains charts of part number changes over each year of the models life.
Tim Yeatma
- Only book with detailed parts and specification numbers for all Bonnevilles. Great listing by year displaying differences and colors. Needs index and narrative past 1976.
- Good book overall, many pictures of Trimph legends, pictures of most 650 twin-carb models for every year, very detailled specs. Only drawbacks are black-and-white photos only and no index, but things are easy to find; also, the two-page major part number appendix is a picture of a hand-drawn chart and is difficult to read in spots. You need this book if you have to tell the difference between the U.S. east coast and west coast 1964 T120C 'TT' models, for instance. (West coast had 17T gearbox sprocket and a black seat with white piping.) Or, you need this book if you like Bonnies...

- I'm glad i bought this book for the resto of a bsa. For 18 bucks the book is huge and as an extra, it covers three diff bikes. the haynes manual is tiny and i probably wont even open that one again as this bsa section alone is more than triple the size of the haynes.
- This manual is a good start when working on one of these older bikes. However it covers many different brands and models, and diagrams and instructions are very vague. If you are working on multiple bikes it may be good, or if you are not sure what year your bike is it is useful. However, if you know exactly what model and year you own you will be better off finding an original factory repair manual (and parts manual), they are all over E-Bay.

- I have in the past read and made use of many of the Haynes manuals for a variety of motorcycles, both domestic and foreign, and, without much doubt ,this is one of the best ones. It reaches to over two hundred pages in length and unusualy for them has no serious omisions or errors and manages to cover all aspects of the unit heavyweight Triumph twins practically and comprehensivley for the home maintenance enthusiast. This being one of the manuals which has been regularly updated over the years the coverage of the late Harris models and the advice on parts availability is far more usable than other titles they have put out in the past, it even manages to be a good read if you are less practically interested. Perhaps the standard here is higher because of the competition in the market but it still manages to be a highly reccomended buy - well I bought one so it must be your turn next - what are you waiting for?

2 comments about Haynes Triumph Triples & Fours (carburettor engines) '91 to '04 (Haynes Service & Repair Manuals).
- I am a Triumph motorcycle fan and owner; I bought this book in order to work on my 1996 Triumph Trophy 1200. As an amateur mechanic and avid do it yourself hobby enthusiast I think this book is a very good start for understanding your triumph motorcycle and allowing you to do some moderately complex repairs and adjustments.
In particular I liked the pictures, diagrams, and exploded views of my motorcycle. The disassembly/assembly instructions where clear and concise, and I especially liked the little technical tips and watch outs for tricky parts or delicate assemblies. I think quite a bit of thought went into the language of the book, it is so easy for professionals mechanics to speak in jargon and acronyms, this book speaks in plain English with only the necessary technical terms needed, and there is a glossary of terms for us newbie's. The chapters are laid out in a progressive sequence starting with routine maintenance and periodic services, trough major engine disassembly and followed up by subsystem detail. The chapter on special tools and techniques is especially interesting because it lets you know how deep you tool chest needs to be in order to complete some of the more complex tasks.
My pet peeve with this book is that there is no comprehensive specifications appendix for torque, clearances, tolerances, pressures etc. It is very frustrating to have to hunt and search through the beginning of each chapter to find the needed information. Also the information is incomplete, for instance I could not find the torque specification for the front sprocket cove bolts, the only reference is to the clutch actuator assembly that attaches onto the cover, those bolts capture the cover and clutch housing together, so I must assume that is the appropriate specification for the entire cover.
For anyone interested in Triumph motorcycle repair, this book is much better than just the owners manual, but not as detailed as the appropriate Triumph shop manual. All the essential information for care and maintenance of your motorcycle is there. If your handy with mechanics tools and can read relatively well, the book works well. I am sure a professional mechanic would not be happy with it, but hey he/she can buy the shop manual.
Well, that's my two cents, I enjoyed the book, I recommend it, and hope you enjoy it as well.
- This is the authority for anyone who doesn't have the shop manual for the first generation Hinckley Triumph motorcycles up to 1999. Haynes has a spotty reputation in the US. This one seems to have escaped that reputation (I think it was written in England, which may explain why it's not as bad as most Haynes manuals). Some people have told me that this is an important manual to have even if you have the shop manual because the shop manual has only drawings where this one has pictures and drawings both.
I have successfully done jobs that have been designated "three (3) wrenches" out of five in difficulty rating with this manual and I am not a trained mechanic. I think if you can do that, you've already gotten your money's worth out of a DYI manual.

- We saw this book reviewed in Classic Bike magazine, and were very happy to find it for sale on Amazon.
It's smaller than I expected (5.5" x 8", 64 pages long), but there's lots of good information packed in a small space.
The information contained is a wonderful compendium of information you'll need when purchasing (or restoring) a Bonnie. From proper paint to what's actually a 'good' deal, this book covers thing's you want to know whether you're purchasing your first vintage Triumph, or your fifth.
- Excellent value - a must have for anyone thinking of purchasing a Triumph Bonneville. Comprehensive checklist - very easy to work through as you inspect that potential purchase.

- I am a bit of a Triumph nut and have most of the books written on the subject. This" Restoration" book has quite a few nice pictures but is of no practical value regarding restoring a Triumph.I'll keep it for my collection but wont be refering to it.Get Hughie Hancock's video and the Hayne's manual along with a repro factory manual and you're set!!

- The history on each bike discribed in the book is quite informative. The bikes we were specifically interested in are the Bonnevilles and there is no shortage of great pictures and descriptions. There are some great examples of restorations that go beyond showroom quality. We are especially fond of the 1977 Silver Jubilee edition.
- This is a fine book for basic Triumph history. I think the best feature are the excellent photos. This book is certainly worth the price.
- Extremely helpful to anyone who is restoring a triumph twin or triple. The colour photos are throughout and I thought the book was money well spent.

5 comments about Jupiters Travels: Four Years Around the World on a Triumph.
- What can you say about "Jupiters Travels" that hasn't already been said? It's the quintessential motorcycle travel book, a book that inspired many men to undertake similar adventures. (Just watch Long Way Round or read Motorcycle Therapy: A Canadian Adventure in Central America to enjoy the stories of two such men.) Ted Simon will make you shake your head in wonder of his good fortune (at times) and his calm assurance that all will be well under circumstances that would make most men abandon hope. Well written and thought provoking, this is a must read for any motorcycle adventure enthusiast.
- Contnet of trip around world found to be good however the way it is written it gets extremely boring and at time hard to understand. Have read "Long Way Round" and found that book to be great, but "Jupiters Travels" was dull.
- This book is almost impossible to put down and is absolutely inspiring to read. Deaf to the pleas of my wife and children I read on into the night. I often felt I was actually there with Ted as he copes with some pretty dire stuff. As a New Zealand motorcyclist living in India I could relate so much to his experiences. More needs to be written about the amazing opportunities to ride in India, so perhaps with this as my inspiration its my turn.
- This book is extremely well written. The author eludes to his journalism profession and it is eveident. A little too much "who am I" searching to suit me. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this book.
- This book is about Ted Simon's experince of riding around the world. Not only does he write about his actual experinces, but he also writes about how he feels. Some parts of the trip are glossed over in just a paragraph while others take pages and pages. It was very interesting to see hwo he felt the trip changed his life. I would have given the book five stars, but it bogs down in places. This book is more about an adventure around the world than it is about motorcycling. Overall, it is a great story and worth reading.
