  1. Handy book to have around when you want to work on your quad. Lots of pictures and details that make simple tasks much easier. It does leave out some steps (at least I think so) on the more complex projects, but I think if you're going to do an engine teardown you'd probably want the Honda service manual instead. Lots of handy conversions and details about the specific Honda ATV.

This is a good suppliment to the owners manual as it goes into much more detail about how to do the things most owners wouldn't want to pay the dealer to do.

3 comments about Cult Of Vespa.
  1. People trying to artsy about their memories of Vespa's, it's a non-electric yawn machine...pass it by.

  2. I don't know what that other review is all about. If you own a vespa you'll love this. TONS of old ads, calendars, factory shots etc give a great overview of the vespa legend.

  3. Yes, boring guy is right. If you've never been on a real vespa, or is you've only driven one on the freeway in Houston, this may be boring, but anyone who's ever taken to the road on a proper bike will love the photos alone. It chronicals a lifestyle and trying to advertise for something that everyone's already doing is easy. Indispensibly cool when trying to explain to people what you ride.

1 comments about MV Agusta.
  1. An excellent book covering the history of MV Agusta. My only complaint is that it isn't current on the models. The bikes stop about 3 years ago in 2005.
A definate buy for any interested in MV Agusta.

  1. I'm pretty thorough when it comes to investigating which books to buy for any given topic. Based on my "research", THIS was my choice for learning more about modifying the Harley V-Twin engine. I couldn't be happier with my selection.
It's well written, easy to comprehend, and offers tons and tons of useful information for the novice who wants to learn more about the performance aspects of the Evo and Shovelhead V-Twins.
It begins with a brief review of the basic 4 stroke principles, then gets into the details of what creates power, then offers various combinations to do so---to meet YOUR bike's purpose and how you intend to ride it.
Do you know what defines a Stage I, II, III motor? At what RPM does torque and horsepower always cross over on a chart? At what RPM is the optimum shift point for YOUR bike's engine?
Buy it and find out! I highly recommend this text !! And, I'm picky !!

  2. And probably the best I'll ever find. Denish's coverage is thorough. He explains WHY certain modifications do what they do and the compromises associated with every performance gain. You'll never look at straight pipes the same again. Know that this book doesn't walk you through a build-up. I don't think that was his goal. Rather, you'll learn how to build a balanced system where all components complement the builder's intentions. I held back a star because certain aspects seemed a little too drag-racey.

1 comments about Suzuki GS850 Fours Owners Workbook Manual, No. 536: '78 to '88 (Owners Workshop Manual).
  1. This manual provides reasonably good black and white pictures and drawings of parts to accompany detailed descriptions of teh GS850 motorcycle. Particulary good is chapter 7 that explains the changes post 1981. I am not a technician so the accuracy of certain topics may not be 100% however it is perfect for my needs. (Actually a technician that helped me was thrilled to have the manual to refer to!). The british lexicon makes some spots difficult to understand but the dictionary of synonomous terms helps you get beyond this hurdle. This manual is a must for the near antique GS850 owners.

  1. I was fortunate to find a copy of this book in the close-out bin at a local bookstore. This was such a good book that I'm now looking at the author's other books.

One thing I like is that the book is profusely illustrated, and that all the background clutter has been cut away from the photos, so that all you see is the bike against a plain white background. Combined with the clear photography and printing, it really allows you to see machine details that would normally get lost.

Another nice characteristic of this book is that the emphasis is upon the bikes, with background information on the state of the company that helps to explain why the bikes evolved the way they did. This historical orientation was aided by the chronological orientation of the book. Related to this is that the book was about bikes, not lifestyles. I hope that when I get a copy of his book on Harleys that this will be true there as well (notice that most books on Harleys have more photos of "trailer trash" than they do of motorcycles, and that you rarely get a chance to see what the older bikes looked like from the factory? -- OK, rant mode off).

If you are fortunate to run across this book, buy it.

Now, if we could get books like this for all the major European and English manufacturers (hint, hint).

  2. Record City had awesome service getting the book to me. Thank you!
The book arrived in perfect condition. I will certainly use them again.
The book is a gift for a friend. I know he will be very excited with the history and information in this great book.

  1. I read this with my 3 year old son, and he adored it! We've had it out of the library at least 12 times, and have decided to buy our own copy. It is well-written and realistically-illustrated, with an emphasis on safety, rules and respecting the police. Mom figures largely, also! I recommend this to anyone with a child who is a motorcycle nut; the endpages have neat illustrations of the parts of a motorcycle!

1 comments about German Military Vehicles of World War II: An Illustrated Guide to Cars, Trucks, Half-Tracks, Motorcycles, Amphibious Vehicles and Others.
  1. This book is very disappointing! There is not a single photogragh in this book unless you consider the photo on the front cover. Illustration are only black and white sketches and are at best, just OK. The text on each vehicle appears to be just a rehash of data previously published elsewere and offers nothing new. As a soft cover book of 214 pages and priced at $45.00, the book is really not worth its price. I immediately returned this book to the place I purchased it. For the best resource on German Military vehicles, I would recommend "Militarfahrzeuge der Wehrmacht (volume 1 & 2) published by Ryton publications. This is a hard cover book of glossy paper stock loaded with sharp black/white photos. There are also color profiles of vehicles provided. Another good resource on German vehicles would be "The Standard Catalog of German Military Vehicles" by David Doyle published by KP Books. This is a soft cover book of 512 pages which covers just about all armored, wheeled and half-track vehicles used during World War 2. Although flawed in certain aspects and lacking any color profiles, it has the advantage of being loaded with black and white photos and of being priced more affordably($30) than Le Page's new book.

2 comments about Motocourse 2006-2007: The World's Leading MotoGP & Superbike Annual (Motocourse).
  1. the book is an above average Motocourse which is great, but the dust jacket is defective, seems like it is coming apart, and covered with a wierd film, people tend to collect these, so it probably warrants a return, has anyone had a simliar experience?? are they all like this??

  2. This is not the perfect book about MotoGP or Superbike, but it is rather close. The facts and information are very good in this book...the presentation is also well-done and the photographs are wonderful. I only wish that there were more statistical information about races past. (I bought the "MotoGP Results" annual for that purpose.) However, I would definitely recommend this to the veteran race fan who needs to get his or her race information fix in a rather large coffee table book! If you like photos, this is a good book for you!
