1 comments about MotoGP in Camera: The Official Portrait of the 990cc Era.
- Many enthusiasts, and many highly respected MotoGP riders, consider the 240-HP, four-stroke 990s that raced from 2002 to 2006 to have been the pinnacle of performance and spectacle in racing--the most powerful and demanding race machines ever created, even beyond the 180-HP 500-cc two-strokes that made such extraordinary demands on their pilots.
This book sets out to make the point, and the result is a compendium of terrific photos of the era, year by year, captured by 16 great race photographers from Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK, professionals whose unique access to the men, machines, pits and tracks gives them the chance to create stunning imagery of the sport. Every reader will find favorites, and there are no bad shots. Nicky Hayden puts his own 2006 world championship into perspective in a thoughtful and insightful introduction.
No aspect of MotoGP is ignored, from the great tracks to the fans, the key men (no women, except for fans and umbrella girls--one of them naked under her wet tee shirt) who drive the sport, the portraits of many of the interesting characters, the agony of crashing and the conflicting emotions of riders who win or lose. Spectators may only see spectacle, but insiders know that top racers put their lives on the line every time they ride, even in practice, and you can see it on the page.
What is particularly striking is that Julian Ryder chose unique points of view and images unlikely to see print in any magazine or newspaper. These unusual views of the sport make the book essential for the enthusiast, a remarkable and memorable record of courage and commitment, daring and danger, the essence of great spectacle unmatched in sport.
Behind the 250-odd images reproduced with stunningly clarity on the page, one aspect of the work deserves consideration by readers: photographers shoot thousands of photos at every MotoGP event, and the ratio between great and `okay, interesting' and `no good' is one in hundreds, often demanding capture in a right-time/right-place thousandth of a second. Ryder has captured the spectacular, violent and fascinating aspects of the sport and its participants.
The book title is ironic. `In camera' is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as `in secret or private session, not in public,' but what could be more aggressively public that MotoGP? Yes, and we are the beneficiaries, at the track and in this magnificent book. Get it!

5 comments about Indian Larry: Chopper Shaman.
- Purchased as a gift, full of great yarns & photo's, for the right person this is a great buy! Enjoy!
- This book could have had half the number of pages. The focus is on the spiritual (indian?) side of Larry. It does paint an interesting picture of what he was like, but I found the comments of other builders in Art of the Chopper II more relevant. The recurring theme of life's mysteries and how they influenced Larry went on and on. It became a bit much. Nearly ruined a reasonable read.
- Larry was happy being who he was. He states as much in his interviews during his Biker Build Off episodes. I feel the author of this book forgets that and puts Larry high on this pedestal where Larry never wanted to be. His bikes was his art and he appreciated his fans that wanted to see it. What made him unique is that he was kind, caring and considerate. Traits that one hardly ever sees in a person, especially all at one time. This book does Larry justice when telling his story from boyhood to bikehood but loses its flavor when the author throws in his collegiate words to make his point on how great Larry was. Larry seemed, to me, like he was a simple man who wanted simple things and, to put it simply, wanted to share his art with those who would appreciate it. Long story short, this is a good book with a good read and some great photos.
- This man didn't have an average live, I think it's one thing on everybody will agree...
This was a good man, who just lived his life as he could, just like us, but with less compromise.
The book is really interresting (even for people like me who've been already reading about him), the pics go from "old Polaroid" to very high quality (especialy regarding the bikes).
The thing I really did not appreciate is the comparison between his life and a "hero tale". I think Larry himself wouldn't have appreciate this...
If you like choppers but don't know the guy, buy this book ! If you already know him a little, save your money for another one !

- Indian Larry has been a hero of sorts since I "met" him in Iron Horse years ago-when I got this book,I spent an hour just looking at the photos and reading captions.the actual reading however, was so disapointing that I would not recommend the book.the text consists of a few facts or at least items of interest surrounded by pages of referances to mythical times,kings,queens,etc-an introduction with that BS would have served it's purpose-to spread it throughout as filler is a shame.find a back issue of Iron Horse with an Indian Larry interview to learn about the man-buy this for pictures or if you want to read semi-coherant ramblings from someone who seems confused but grasping for an answer to life-

5 comments about Motorcycle: Evolution, Design, Passion.
- I purchased this as a gift for someone who's interested in dirt bikes and recently street bikes. He loved it!
- Many nice examples of motorcycling inventions. Fine selection of pictures, covering examples of major breakthroughs in designing motorcycles. In my opinion the book lacks a little more dephs in the individual sections. Overall an ok buy for the price for the one who loves motorcycling.
- This is an excellent book , a must have for all historians or collectors. I highly recommend this book to all.
- Why are some folks passionate about motorcycles? Hell, I don't know. Maybe because they're exciting, sleek, powerful, open air, sexy, unique, not for the everyman, thrilling, sweat producing, demanding, resonant, and just so attractive. We need more books like this so others may be tempted to be 'just looking, honey'
- If you're either a motorcycle enthusiast or a librarian catering to such, make it a point to consider MOTORCYCLE: EVOLUTION, DESIGN, PASSION. It's an oversized, definitive guide to motorbike design and goes beyond the usual showcase of bikes to tap into the wellspring of knowledge and life experience of motorcycle racer and historian Mike Walker. Motorcycle history and evolution are covered in a particularly notable set of vintage photos and historical review, making for a unique and valuable collection addition.

5 comments about The Original Wild Ones: Tales of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club.
- I think that the book sheds light on the misconceptions about the notorious Hollister incident, something that was handed to my generation as a "legend". Mind you, I'm an Athenian born in 1965 , when films like "The Wild One" werw considered as sf from the then conservative Greek society. I have to point out that BMW bikes played the role of HDs in Greece (same scenario: abandoned bikes by the German troops ), and probably that's the reason that I have not seen many Harley on the street, all my life !! You see, the "dream" bike is a BMW! (Swastikas not obligatory!)
Do I ride ? Yes, I still backride with some friends that got old and drive CAREFULLY ! Did I like the book ??
Well, it's like a n article from Easyriders, an extended one mind you, but it's pretty good, it shows that someone got in A LOT OF TROUBLE to fullproof his research, and, hell, it was a lot of fun!Glory days when nobody told you how and when you were supposed to enjoy your poor self!
- I loved the book. Overall a fun ride through the history of the so called biker culture and how it started; just a bunch of good friends with a common bond and loyalty to each other.
- Good book if you're a Booze Fighter interested in the history of the club. Really the stories aren't that Wild.
- This book made me want to be there during the simpler times, when ya did something that wasn't completely within the boundaries of the law and and you weren't crucified for screwing up. My favorite part was the ride from southern cali to daytona and the money they made along the way. This book was a really good reading book.
- Although the book is written in the spirit of awe of the "old timers" and focuses a bit too much on deifying them it gives the reader an insight as to what the good life was back then. The book takes to back to a time when people could live a robust filled life without ending up in the federal pen back before lawyers and lawsuits ruined things for everyone. Comaradarie triumphs over greed and materialism and people didn't sweat the little things in life. It is written about an age where people were real and not made out of plastic like almost everything else these days. In those days when you had a nice custom bike it was because you and your buddies built it yourselves and not out of store bought parts. You built your bike to ride and not to impress people and trailer it around in your truck. The book is a good read about real people and the life they lived.

4 comments about Yamaha XJ 650 and XJ 750 Fours Owners Workshop Manual, No. M738: '80-'84 (Owners Workshop Manual).
- This is a very good book for my 1982 Yamaha XJ750-r. It is one of the few I found that were available. Many illustrations with a down to earth HOWTO approach. I like it.
- I want to know about this manua
- This book is very helpful for the amatuer as well as good for reference for the professional mechanic. I found the illustrations to be especially helpfull when locating particular parts.
- This manual is a must if you are restoring and maintaining a Yamaha XJ bike. It gives detailed instructions and photos in a user friendly format.

5 comments about Advanced Airbrush Art: How to Secrets From the Masters.
- Superb book for learning. I only wish this group of ten painters, will do it again, with different subjects...
- I look forward to using the advance techniques that this book provides.
- This book has some good techniques for someone who has some knowledge, but does not have any step-by-step projects for beginners. The step-by-step projects it has are for someone who has some knowledge and experience of painting and airbrushing. It seems nice for this purpose though. I wanted a book for an absolute beginners such as myself. I will keep the book and probably will use it after I learn some about airbrushing. I know some about painting so I can see how this would benefit someone with some skill and knowledge. It shows procedures and tips for painting gas tanks for motorcycles.
- First of all, this isn't really a book. It's more like a magazine.
Second, the airbrushing exmaples inside (while very well done) aren't what I expected.
If you're interested in airbrushing a flaming skull on a motorcycle then this book (er, magazine) is for you.
But if you're like me, and interested only in airbrushing illustrations, then this isn't for you.
- Ii think it's a really good book. This one includes really detailed step by step of several work and with different artists. They explain how they do to ackomplish the result. Then it's a small interview with every artist, how they got into buissness, what gear they use and so on..
All work in the book is painted on motorcycle-tanks. Recommend this one! Nice photos and many of them, easily to follow the procedure.
This book fits for people that has some knowledge about aibrushing.
