- A very well ducumented story. A very fast pace rollercoaster of a ride type style book. The newspaper articles are all dated properly. I enjoyed reading this book.
- Well put together as fiction goes. Enjoyable for those with no experience with 1%ers. This guy reeks of wannabe. Half truths and conjecture, cobbled together facts and douche baggery. WORTH READING ONLY IF YOU BUY THE BOOK USED AND SEVERELY DISCOUNTED. OR DONT BUY IT AND JUST GO RIDE!

5 comments about Indian Larry: Chopper Shaman.
- Purchased as a gift, full of great yarns & photo's, for the right person this is a great buy! Enjoy!
- This book could have had half the number of pages. The focus is on the spiritual (indian?) side of Larry. It does paint an interesting picture of what he was like, but I found the comments of other builders in Art of the Chopper II more relevant. The recurring theme of life's mysteries and how they influenced Larry went on and on. It became a bit much. Nearly ruined a reasonable read.
- Larry was happy being who he was. He states as much in his interviews during his Biker Build Off episodes. I feel the author of this book forgets that and puts Larry high on this pedestal where Larry never wanted to be. His bikes was his art and he appreciated his fans that wanted to see it. What made him unique is that he was kind, caring and considerate. Traits that one hardly ever sees in a person, especially all at one time. This book does Larry justice when telling his story from boyhood to bikehood but loses its flavor when the author throws in his collegiate words to make his point on how great Larry was. Larry seemed, to me, like he was a simple man who wanted simple things and, to put it simply, wanted to share his art with those who would appreciate it. Long story short, this is a good book with a good read and some great photos.
- This man didn't have an average live, I think it's one thing on everybody will agree...
This was a good man, who just lived his life as he could, just like us, but with less compromise.
The book is really interresting (even for people like me who've been already reading about him), the pics go from "old Polaroid" to very high quality (especialy regarding the bikes).
The thing I really did not appreciate is the comparison between his life and a "hero tale". I think Larry himself wouldn't have appreciate this...
If you like choppers but don't know the guy, buy this book ! If you already know him a little, save your money for another one !

- Indian Larry has been a hero of sorts since I "met" him in Iron Horse years ago-when I got this book,I spent an hour just looking at the photos and reading captions.the actual reading however, was so disapointing that I would not recommend the book.the text consists of a few facts or at least items of interest surrounded by pages of referances to mythical times,kings,queens,etc-an introduction with that BS would have served it's purpose-to spread it throughout as filler is a shame.find a back issue of Iron Horse with an Indian Larry interview to learn about the man-buy this for pictures or if you want to read semi-coherant ramblings from someone who seems confused but grasping for an answer to life-

5 comments about Long Way Round: The Illustrated Edition: Chasing Shadows Across the World.
- I couldn't wait to get this book. It sounded like a great story of adventure across several continents. After the first chapter I deeply regreted my purchase. What had great potential turned out to be two guys boasting about their popularity and how it was going to be difficult being celebrities. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't know them at all, despite their numerous references to the movies they've been in. I thought I was getting a book about the challenges of travel abroad and pictures of these places. What I got was a book with too many pictures of the authors, weak stories of the places they stayed in and the food they ate.
- Long Way Round chronicles the around-the-world motorcycle adventure of Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor. It's unlikely I'll ever do anything like that in my life, but the book gave me an idea of what it's like. Both of them are entertaining writers and it was a really inspiring book. A great tale of taking an adventure and making it a dream come true; of friendship; and of overcoming obstacles. A great companion to the dvd set.
- What an awesome book, recording an awesome experience. As a biker myself, I was attracted to the book just to read about a trip that is beyond my means and abilities, but the book ended up meaning much more than that to me. It showed me, yet again, that wherever you go in the world (And I've travelled a fair bit of it myself in my work as a seafarer !) people everywhere are just people like you and I, when you get past the religious, political and economic differences that can so often divide us. It also highlights the fact that people who make a living in the film industry are not necessarily unapproachable, self centred and addicted to adulation. They can be warm, human and prone to the same joys, fears and desires as the rest of us. In short, they are human beings who just happen to have a good job. This is not just a good read about a motor bike trip of a lifetime, it is a book that rekindles hope that the world, and its varied people, is a beautiful place after all, and not half as dangerous as some would have us believe. Whether you're a biker, an armchair traveller or just someone looking for an exciting and inspiring read, then this book is for you. I can't praise it highly enough.
- The photos are great and compliment the journey and the text. A must have for any touring motorcyclist.
- I have this story on DVD and thoroughly enjoyed it so I decided to buy the book. It closely mirrors the DVD's, and had lots of pictures. Needless to say, I would highly recommend both. I've just started reading, "Long Way Down", and within a few pages have become as captivated as before. These adventures are the type of thing I would have loved to do 20 years ago, I can kinda get a feeling of what it must be like through Ewan and Charlie's travels. Thanks, Guys, for a really good time!!

- This is a very good book for my 1982 Yamaha XJ750-r. It is one of the few I found that were available. Many illustrations with a down to earth HOWTO approach. I like it.
- I want to know about this manua
- This book is very helpful for the amatuer as well as good for reference for the professional mechanic. I found the illustrations to be especially helpfull when locating particular parts.
- This manual is a must if you are restoring and maintaining a Yamaha XJ bike. It gives detailed instructions and photos in a user friendly format.

- Just as I expected. Full of anything you want to know and then some more.
- Unless you are going to let the dealer turn every screw on your bike, you need this. The BMW manual is hopelessly vague on so many items that there really isn't any substitute. I've found a few minor things wrong but overall it is extremely useful. The only thing I don't care for is that they've crammed so many models into the manual and there is no index, so it can take a while to find what you are looking for.
- A must for any BMW owner. A bit too involved not easily organized. Would prefer chapters on individual maintance procedures instead of jumping through chapters to find information. Would also perfer a book on individual models instead of covering so many different bikes. Still it is a book that one should have to seriously maintain their bike.

5 comments about BMW Motorcycles.
- I bought this book after reading David Edward's "Cycle World" editorial column in which he called it "an excellent book." He was right--the writing is gripping. I read it from cover to cover twice. There's not as much nuts and bolts stuff in here as in some other BMW books, but that stuff bores me anyway. I really don't care what the valve timing was on a 1963 R50/2. What I do care about is the history of the bikes and of the company. I care about what it is like to ride these bikes. I care about the people who created them. That's what's in here. It makes those other books read like parts lists. And the photography is top notch.
I liked this book so much that this fall I traded my Harley Softail in on a R1200GS. I've been riding Harleys since 1978, so that's saying something.
- I'm a big fan of these bikes, and there's no better history and no more entertaining of a book than this one. Holmstrom tells a "warts and all" story and Nelson glitzes it up with excellent photos. It's the kind of book you want to put out on the coffee table when you invite the fellas over for tea and monkey-wrenching in the garage...fun stuff.
- I would recommend this book to any BMW motorcycle enthusiast. Good photography and an excellent read, full of interresting information.
- This is a fantastic book. The photography is some of the best I have seen, and the author takes what could be a stodgy story and makes it come alive. Very entertaining!
- It is a good book full of excellent quality photographs that match the text making the review of the evolution of BMW motorcyles clear and enjoyable to read. Great book to have for those BMW motorad fans! Next edition should include the description of the newest models.

5 comments about How To Build a Harley-Davidson Torque Monster (Motorbooks Workshop).
- Bill Rooks's book is a great resource for anyone who works on Harley Davidsons or would like to. As an amature mechanic, I learned a lot from this book. Top end and head work are covered extensively, as well as carburetor selection and tuning. Rook stresses the importance of designing a total package for achieving specific performance goals rather than simply bolting on expensive parts. Rook's careful, simple, yet detailed descriptive writing style makes sense, and will allow anyone with a basic understanding of internal combustion engines to grow in their knowledge and tackle the project or modifying a stock Harley Davidson for performance gains. I highly reccomend this book.
- Book appears to have been written with the author fully knowing that he has filled the pages with useless information. Very little useful information. Many large pictures of common things, and large 1/2 page pictures of himself from childhood up and 1/2 page blow ups of spark plugs. How to change oil! What oil he likes! Basic wasted information like that. Will not buy anything from this author or publisher again. This was not a mistake by the author, you can clearly tell that it was intentional by how much wasted garbage is in the book, and how little useful information is in there. I guess he was able to sell it to people like myself.
- I bought this book for my husband who has ridden and built Harleys for 30 years....he is very satisfied and happy with the book because it does teach him new things.....
- If you like hot rodding your bike or just want to read about it get this book. A very good premmer on how to make you bike fast and street worthy at the same time. How to do it with out wasting money and time in the process. Something for every Harley rider.
- I'm an experienced home mechanic and found some things useful in this book but not much. He dwells on old Sportsters with magnetos which these days are nearly extinct and more work than they are worth. He dismisses Evos which is what I have and gives only a passing glance at CV carbs. He also does not give much info on cams and how to pick one. It was published last year but is outdated already. He is an old school wrench and it shows. You could get more info by surfing the Web and joining a chat room or talking to the manufacturers and it's free. Too bad.

- iS A VERY GOOD GUIDE TO DETECT TROUBLES IN THE OPERATION OF YOUR HD MACHINE, AND KEEP IT IN GOOD CONDITIONS.
I THINK THAT THE MANUAL NEEDS MORE GRAPHICS LIKE OTHERS HAYNES MANUALS.
ANY WAY GOOD BOOK
- Very comprehensive with attention to detail - my old eyes would like larger font and bigger pictures and diagrams but it seems most publishers are not concerning themselves with older readers. Nevertheless a good manual.
- I was hoping to get some information on my HD Sportster and this book
provides good general information and troubleshooting guidance. This book is not a service manual.
- A must have for those who bought their bikes used. A detailed instrutions on maintainance and a get to know your bike book. Samples and pictures are generally focus on older models though. But other than that, a great book.
- I've been buying Hayne's manuals for years and was delighted to see that they offered one for my new Harley. They feature ample photos and provide instruction for all year models, not to mention an interesting historical piece at the preface. I'd give 5 stars but I couldn't find the exact photo that I was looking for a specific problem that I was experiencing.

5 comments about Ed "Big Daddy" Roth: His Life, Times, Cars, and Art.
- This book is a great collection with everything that you want to see and know about the "Big Daddy".
I bought one for a friend and I'll buy for me too.
- For me, a guy, who lived and breathed the hot rod, surf and music scene of the 60's, this book brings back a necessary component of the time. Relive and remember the essence of the time through Ed Roth who's artwork and cars seemed to be on the tip of everyone's tongue. We all knew the "Rat Fink" and we all knew "Big Daddy". Now he lives forever in this definitive work.
- This is a great book, a must have for Big Daddy fans and hot rodders alike. A great compainion to "Rat Fink: The Art of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. I love the hard cover because I hope to have this book to show my kids someday. Ed Roth lives forever through his fans.
- Bought this as a gift and he loved it. A great collection of info and photos on the one and only Big Daddy. Great shots of him througout his life and career, up and down, (my favorite shot was of him sleeping on the side of the road beside his car on his way to a show). Lots of photos of his wild cars. Great book for all his fans.
- Most people see Ed as an icon, which he was/is, few knew the man. I was very fortunate to have met him when in HS, and almost 40 yrs later 800mi away in another state. He was a talented man, a gifted artist, a somewhat insecure businesman, but a man with a soul. Find what you want to find, Ed Roth was a complex individual; should be more of them.
