1 comments about Velocette Motorcycles: MSS to Thruxton.
- If you are a Velo fan, you've probably read "Technical Excellence Exemplified" by Ivan Rhodes, and "Velocette: Saga of a Great Motorcycle" by "Titch" Allen. While these are both excellent, "Velocette Motorcycles - MSS to Thruxtion" by Rod Burris, devotes pretty much the whole book to the M series bikes, with a little Velo history thrown in as well. Since these models really make up the majority of Velos that are ridden and restored today, it is a very useful and interesting book. A great deal of time is spent on the "why" of a particular development, rather than just cold facts and figures. I buy quite a few motorcycle books and magazines, and the ones I enjoy the most are the ones with pictures that are unique to that book, and this one is loaded with them. I get tired of looking at grainy recycled photos from old motorcycle magazines that I have seen before. This book also has a nice color section in it, not only with Velo owners and their mounts, but reprints of many old Velocette brochures, something rarely seen. In addition, it covers technical upgrading of the M series machines, something that very few "restoration" books ever get into. Whether you are looking at becoming a Velo owner, and want to explore the world of Velos before you dive in, or a long time owner wanting to know "why they used that part during that particular year", I would highly recommend this book.

1 comments about German Military Vehicles of World War II: An Illustrated Guide to Cars, Trucks, Half-Tracks, Motorcycles, Amphibious Vehicles and Others.
- This book is very disappointing! There is not a single photogragh in this book unless you consider the photo on the front cover. Illustration are only black and white sketches and are at best, just OK. The text on each vehicle appears to be just a rehash of data previously published elsewere and offers nothing new. As a soft cover book of 214 pages and priced at $45.00, the book is really not worth its price. I immediately returned this book to the place I purchased it. For the best resource on German Military vehicles, I would recommend "Militarfahrzeuge der Wehrmacht (volume 1 & 2) published by Ryton publications. This is a hard cover book of glossy paper stock loaded with sharp black/white photos. There are also color profiles of vehicles provided. Another good resource on German vehicles would be "The Standard Catalog of German Military Vehicles" by David Doyle published by KP Books. This is a soft cover book of 512 pages which covers just about all armored, wheeled and half-track vehicles used during World War 2. Although flawed in certain aspects and lacking any color profiles, it has the advantage of being loaded with black and white photos and of being priced more affordably($30) than Le Page's new book.

2 comments about Harley-Davidson Lore: 1966 to Present.
- With a 2001 H-D softail on order, I looked forward to reading this book to learn about H-D tradition, company exploits, and product development. My reason for writing this review is to let others with similar interests know that this book offers very little on those subjects.
What Herbert Wagner has done is to merely compile a set of photographs of such things as H-D advertisements, products, and events, and annotate them in as spartan a manner as you could possibly imagine. This book borders on being completely uninformative! Just as dissapointing is the format that was chosen by the author and his publisher. The beginning of the book, comprising the vast majority of the pages, contains photos without text. The end of the book is a series of pages that duplicate, in thumbnail sized images, all of the photos found in the beginning of the book. Next to each of these miniature images you will find a few words of descriptive text. Interestingly, the text is so small that it challenges people (even those with eagle-like vision) to read without squinting or without reaching for reading glasses. Although I would not recommend this book to anyone, I will add that it does have a brief, well written introduction that captures the unique experience of riding a motorcycle.
- This book is an OUTSTANDING collection of vintage HD photographs, set in two volumes. I would agree with one reviewer that flipping from the large picture to the thumbnail credits at the back of the books is sometimes a pain, But the quality of these old photographs is excellant and they are well printed. The only disappointment for me is the second volume which has the current era of bikes. Not as interesting as those old machines of the teens, twenties and thirties.

- This book was informatiove, and explicit in detail. I believe you hardly need any experience in motocycle repair in order to benefit from this book.
