  1. This is a great retrospective of Indian brand motorcyles. The photos are top notch. The writting is on target and Hatfield has done his research. A must for all motorcycle enthusiasts.

  2. A well illustrated and very interesting book which gives the full historical background to the development of this iconic motocycle. A lot of technical detail for the restorer, but wade through this and there are fascinating insights into the development of American motor culture, the expansion of metalled roads, petrol stations and motels, all required background to the motocycles themselves and how they were marketed. For once a book thats more than just a history of oil pumps!

  3. For true enthusiasts, motorcycling litterature is often far too general. This particular book from Jerry Hatfield takes the opposite approach. It is not only about Indian, but Indian Chief motorbikes exclusively. As a result, you get only the information you need, year after year, including the original color schemes from the factory documents. A lot of good pictures of restored bikes add to the information. This is perhaps my only minor objection: more original photographic material would completely close the case. Hatfield preferred to address this in his equally important book, a photographic history of Indian motorcycles. If you want to properly restore an Indian, do not start before you have read these two books. If you simply love these bikes but don't intend to ever own one, "Indian Motorcycles" will be a better choice.

  1. The information in this book is amazing. To find out how far back the Japanese Motorcycle industry goes was new to me. Finally a motorcycle history book that isn't about Harley's.

  1. This is one of the most up to date bicycle repair manuals that I have seen. Includes sections on selecting a bike, necessary tools, quick fixes, advanced repairs and maintenance, and bike extras. All information is given in easy to understand language (there's even a glossary for those of us who want to learn the latest cycling jargon). What stands out most, however, are the full-color photos and illustrations. This book is not only useful, but fun to look at. The Bike Book is definitely the best value in a bicycle repair and maintenance manual that can be found anywhere.

  1. The photographers included in this book are the best in the business and some of the images are truly fantastic. I doubt many gen-x-ers will buy this book and appreciate the talent and effort that goes into capturing a still image when they can go out and buy a Travis Pastrana DVD with someone jumping off the grand canyon, but such is the age we live in. Not a knock, just a recognition of the difference between print and video, and who is likely to enjoy which.

For those who appreciate motocross as it was in the 70's and 80's and appreciate outdoor tracks more than supercross, I give this five stars. For X-games fans, I give it only three. Therefore, an overall four star rating.

For the price, you can hardly go wrong.

  1. I was really hoping for a better read. Even in the hands of a better
writer this story would fall flat - It is predictable and hum drum. If you need something to help you fall asleep quickly, buy a used copy. Very disappointing.

  2. My mom wrote a review about this book and said I could too because she got the book for me and i didn't like it. I wanted to read about motorcycles and real stuff that real kids do not a bunch of junior high drama. it wasn't very good I have read a lot of books and they are better than this one.

  3. Wow this book was phenomenal! I really liked the way that the author titled the chapters. It was very clever! I strongly disagree with the other two reviews (Miracle kid and Miracle Mom). This book was very well done. I really like Brooke; she always knew what to do and I find that very admirable. She is a very responsible person and I want to be like her. I loved this book and recomended it to all of my friends, family and teachers. This is definatley a five star book! Because of the language it's probably better for middle schoolers and above. The ending was my favorite part of the book, it was a real jaw dropper!

  4. Wow, this book was great!! It really pulled me in! When i first sat down to read it i planned on only reading a few chapters. By the time that i set the book down i was done! 'm not one who really likes to read, but this book really did it for me! i have never ridden in my life, but by the way the Author, Carolee Tyson wrote it i begged my parents to get me a bike so i could learn and experience the thrills of riding dirt bikes! The first place i saw this was at a local event. The author had set up a booth, and was autographing and selling books. The coolest part about it was that she had a motorcycle their for show! That was really cool. I got me thinking and i asked my parents if they would buy it for me. When they realized i was talking about a book the bought themselves each a copy after reading the back. If your looking for a great, thrilling and amazing read, then go to the next place that you see it because you won't be sorry you did! Five stars and two thumbs way up. I hope this becomes a movie!

  5. When my friend told me about this book (he wrote the one below me), i just had to read it! I was quite surprised because like him, i don't like to read. This book was a great read. I even showed my teacher and now hes reading it and he said that his son wants to read it as well. This book is truly contagious! Better get your copy soon!
