- The Trail Bikes is a really good book.If you are looking for a
dirt bike,or if your looking for how to ride one this is the place for you go to.Believe me this is the place for you to go to.GOOD LOOK
- Eric Gorr's book is a great help to all dirtbike owners. In addition to your bikes workshop manual it should cover absolutely EVERYTHING you will ever need to do to your bike.
The writing is good, it's organized and to the point. There are specific sections for all the major models. This is one of the better tecnical books I own, and I highly recommend it.
- I have 2 boys who race MX and off road and I race off road and we do most of our own repair and tuning work. This book makes it much easier. It goes way past the repair manual with time saving tips and necessary illustrations. The tuning stuff is completely missing from the repair manual. I don't know if this is THE best book to have in the garage but it works for me. I've read it almost all through and highly recommend it to someone who races or pits for a racer.
- not a bad book for most two stroke motorcycles, however the book is very poor when it comes to modern four stroke machines which exist today, it discusses the likes of xrs, which would be very out of date with yzfs and crfs of modern times. but all in all worth the price
- Bottom line - well worth the money, but there is a 3rd edition available. I ordered the 2nd edition by mistake and returned it. The 3rd edition is in color and MUCH easier to read. 3rd edition has a 'bit' more 4 stroke info but not enough to justify buying the 3rd edition if you have the 2nd.
Good book. Good for beginners and as a reference for the experienced.
You may want to take some of the things he says with a "grain of salt" or "does this apply to me" attitude though. Page 22 has a Maintenance Interval Chart that suggests changing the transmission oil every 2 hours and a top end rebuild every 10 hours - or less depending on riding conditions. Not sure I want to change the oil in the middle of a 4-hour easy trail ride. Yes it probably is supposed to apply to 2 strokes on the mx track but he does not state that.
Just buy it.

- If you liked "American Motocross Illustrated" then you've got to have this book. The explosive growth of MX/SX/AX and Freestyle over the past ten+ years have provided Davey Coombs with the perfect platform to launch a book like this. As Racer X grows and matures with the sport, hopefully there will be a racing annual for MX like there is for NASCAR, F!, ETC.
- I am a motocross junky. This book is well done. The writers from Racer X have given our sport a face and pictures to go with it. If you like bikes and todays top riders, you'll enjoy this book. Also see the American Motocross books.

4 comments about Motocross Racers: 30 Years of Legendary Dirt Bikes.
- This is an excellent book with high quality photos on every page. Good representation for most all-brands. Can reccomend for sure. A safe purchase in this case.
- Having been a huge MX fan through the 70's and 80's, I remember almost all of these bikes. The photography is excellent and the stories about how each bike was important in the evolution of design is great reading. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I wish it was about twice as thick... It's still a good value for the money though.
- It's a delightful book - BUT if you expected a selection of bikes that included your own, don't count on it. If you had a big-bore machine, you're going to love this book. If you are one of the MANY who didn't, you may find this book a disappointment, in not being two or three times as thick.
The VMX world can be grateful for this book. But a new edition or addition is needed.
Definately Recommended.
- Motocross Racers 30 Years of Legendary Bikes
By: Ray Ryan
This book is full of heart warming photos and facts about the bikes that started it all. I would recommend this book to all of those people who would like to learn about motocross history and people who make motocross a part of there own lives. This book is not for people who would like to sit down and read a nice picture book. This book has cold hard facts about who made bikes back then for motocross and also how they have changed throughout the years and the very first racers with these bikes.
I this book because it taght me what bikes were like a long time ago and because of how it went within the bike to show you how the engines and the whole bike really evolved from that time to present day.
This book teaches readers about the past in motocross. By the ebd of this book readers will have a full understanding of motocross and there values.
I would rate this book for about 4 ½ stars

5 comments about Pro Motocross and Off-Road Motorcycle Riding Techniques, New Ed.(CyclePro).
- My husband and I both ride... but he's the one who rides on the dirt as well as the road. He's been looking for a book like this for ages, and was elated when I presented it to him as a birthday gift. It's packed with information and pictures on off-road riding, which requires techinques that no-one seems to write about - but it's all here in this book. A must buy.
- This is an excellent book for improving your skills and preventing the spills. The pictures and instructions are so well written that anybody can understand and apply the techniques. A huge variety of topics for both trail riders and motocross racers, this book has plenty to offer all riders at any experience level. The chapters and subjects are well organized and easy to read. You will not be disappointed..
- This is just a gorgeous book, I had the old Gary Semics manual, it was black and white photocopy stuff, this new book has all the Gary Semics stuff with updates and many sections covering different terrains, bikes and setups. The pictures are outstanding, I showed it to my dirtbike buddies and everyone wanted to buy their own copy. They usually copy the stuff so that says a lot about the quality. The information is of the highest quality, Gary Semics is maybe the top motocross teacher in the world, and his "47 absolute techniques of motocross" WILL make you a better rider even if you just ride for fun with your friends. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
- This proved to be a very useful book to me. The authors of this book broke down the various aspects that are required to ride a dirtbike efficiently and safely. After I read through this book, I could critique my riding technique and make corrections. I immediately noticed results the first weekend out in the woods. My speed was increase and my comfort levels went up. At the conclusion of that ride, I noticed that I was less tired than usual and could have went back out for more. I've become a better rider as result of reading this book. I would recommend it to anybody wanting to become a better rider.
- I'm having a hard time reading this book. I think the gems of information are in there, but I'm having work pretty hard to get them out. Why? Formatting: low contrast color choices. In some places, dark text on a dark background makes for difficult reading in low light. Clarity: the author(s) repeatedly fail to define terms precisely. I'm left to guess what they mean. A how-to book shouldn't leave the reader wondering. Ego: they seem to worship Jeremy McGrath. Call him infallible. It feels like a primary school clique to me. Bad science: For example, pg.41, tip #5: "Carry most of your weight on the footpegs to lower your center of gravity." Based on my understanding of basic physics, changing the position of where the rider's weight is supported has nothing to do with where the rider's center of gravity is. Sure it's good advice, carrying the rider's weight on the footpegs drastically improves the bike's handling, but the authors' explanation of the physics is complete nonsense. It leads me to question all other explanations. I imagine the authors know their stuff, but they've got a lot of room for improvement to communicate their ideas in print.

- This is a good book and the only one of its kind of which I am aware. On that basis, I can recommend it heartily. However, there is plenty of room for improvement in future editions. Most obviously, the balance of coverage needs to be tipped in the direction of 4-strokes. At present there is a 4-stroke chapter, but it follows three longer chapters on 2-strokes engines and repairs. The other serious weakness, in my view, is the lack of a complete and detailed index. The publisher cut more than a few corners here. There are tons of missing entries: tire, tire pressure, tire selection, tire mounting ... just to give one example. And some entries are silly: "two-stroke engine" with two pages cited, despite the fact that there are three chapters relating to the subject. But all that said, there is plenty of really useful information in the book. The chapter on tuning tips, for instance, is wonderful, as is the extensive range of illustrations.
- I have been tinkering with motorcycles and dirtbike for 39 years now. I really enjoyed reading and re-reading this book. It contains practical examples on many different models and years of commonly available bikes and also the theory behind how it all works.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to get better at riding and maintaning dirtbikes.

- A very good book if you follow the directions in here...
- Great book. No games. to the point and easy to follow. It also happens to be the only current book out there. Other than this I have had to look up old Husky manuals, Brad lackeys book, Ake jonsons the technique of motocross , among others that are 20-30yrs old. It is great that the only book out there is pretty good. Like all training books the real test is if you really do what is prescribed.

- I received this product in a timely manner and in good condition. Everything worked out great.
- Before I jumped into dirt riding I thought I'd better educate myself a bit and got this book. Compared to anything else out there it it loaded with good info. I like Semics has his little green quick "how too" or comment section on certain topics. So you can pick up the book and look at a couple of pages and not get bogged down in material. "Hey in sand you can go faster becuase as soon as you chop the throttle the sand helps stop you" quick and simple tricks like that all over this book. Things all you guys who've been ridin since you were 4 already know but for those of us whos mother would not let him ride until he got out of the house then this book may keep you from taking some soil samples needlessly.
- This book has a lot of timeless tips about motocross racing and dirt bike riding with plenty of photos to walk the reader through the various techniques. I highly recommend that anyone new to this sport read the book cover to cover just to get well-grounded in the basics. There are some more advanced techniques covered, but this is primarily for the beginner to intermmediate rider. Some of the suggestions here will definitely lower your lap times.
- I've been to many Motocross schools, had many instructors, and have read several books about the Best Sport on Earth.
This book not only has the best info, but it's laid out in such a way one can use it to keep improving their skills.
When you want to be a better rider, simply refer back to it!
Do you want to have more fun? Ride faster, more efficiently, and have more confidence? How about riding so that you look good (and don't crash)?
I recommend this book as indispensable.
