- Shop manual is a great help for giving all the detail information you may need to make repairs. It is far better than the one put out by Kawaski.Wish I could have had some info on the air valves or whatever they are that come out of the cyls.

- This is the book you have to have. I had to re-tune my bike (1978 KZ650D SR) for 11,000+ feet in Colorado. The previous owner messed with everything and had no idea what he was doing. In order to get the carbs back to square-one I had to have this book. Plenty of good info, advice and pictures.

- This manual is more useful and easier to understand than the factory manual(s) and a lot cheaper. Some of the pictures could be a little clearer and the manual assumes a level of mechanical skill that may be a little above that of the average owner, but overall the manual is a must have for this great bike.
- The manual is much easier to understand than the Kawasaki Factory Manual. Kawasaki could learn something by taking a look at Honda Factory Manuals (awesome). Anyway...the Clymer manual is a definite "must have" if you own a KLR650.

2 comments about Clymer Kawasaki Concours 1986-2004.
- The Clymer manual is a good general purpose repair manual and provides sufficient photos and technical information essential for the shade tree mechanic to do the majority of repairs himself. I purchased an "on-line" manual for the Concours prior to purchasing the Clymer and the Clymer was much more informative and illustrative.
- Like most Clymer products, this lacks a usable table of contents -- there are no page numbers within the major topics. Thus if you want to look up, say, adjusting the valves, you have to flip through pages to find it, because the contents lists that it's within a major topic (routine maintenance) and what order it's in there, but no page number.
Also like most Clymer products, Clymer has a bizarre ritual of putting all torque values into a table at the end of the section. If you are reading along in adjusting valves, and you need to know how much torque to apply to the valve cover, Clymer doesn't tell you -- they simply say "torque the valve cover" and make you flip to the back of the section to see what to torque it to.
And the section on spark plugs and what the color says about the fuel-air mixture is bizarre. The pictures are black and white, making it appear that spark plugs are supposed to be grey. Uhm, no, they should be tan. Somebody cheaped out on the color photography and made this section utterly useless.
That said, despite these quirks, it is a usable and valuable reference and I do not work on my bike without it. In particular, the color circuit diagrams at the end of the text are far better than anything in the factory manual. And they even have a few tidbits of info not in the factory manual (not much, though -- they're basically the same info, re-organized into Clymer format). It's just irritating at times to run into the familiar Clymer flaws mentioned above... flaws that should have been fixed years ago.

3 comments about Haynes Kawasaki Bayou 220/250/300 & Prairie 300 ATVs Owners Workshop Manual: 1986-2003 (Owners Workshop Manual).
- The manual is quite comprehensive but the differences in the 220 and 300 engine are substantial and the book focused on the 300 engine. It will say something like, "do this procedure, but if you are working on the 220 engine there will only be one screw instead of two. The engine pictures are of the the 300 so they don't necessarily match. Book is great if you own a 300. Only OK if you own a 220 like me.
- The level of maintenance I was to perform had me apprenhensive about buying a maintenance book that is less comprehensive than factory manual. This book actually surprised me and took details down to levels that were more than adequate. Very little was left to imagination. Comprehensive enough for the back yard mechanic.
- this product cost me less than if I tried to buy it in a store. The shipping was very fast and the item purchased was exactly what was promised.

2 comments about Motorcycling For Dummies (For Dummies (Sports & Hobbies)).
- This book is chock full of insider tips that will make motorcycling safer, and more fun, for both the veteran and the novice rider. I've spent years riding all types of motorcycles and interviewing all types of motorcyclists. The knowledge I've gained is spelled out in this book in a fun and easy-to-read way so that you don't have to interview hundreds of riders yourself! Want to know how to plan a motorcycle trip they way the motojournalists do? I show you how. Want to know what to do if you ride into a corner waaay too fast? I let you know. Want to fit in with the biker crowd? I reveal how. Don't know what to pick for your first motorcycle? I steer you the right way. Are you a woman looking into getting into motorcycling? I help you discover how to fit in, and provide resources specifically for women. It's a fun book full of great info. I hope you enjoy it. -- Bill Kresnak
- By the third mention of Angelina Jolie riding a motorcycle in Chapter 1 to justify the "coolness"of motorcycling the book has already started to go downhill. With the exception of a few chapters (buying a first bike: what you should know & keeping your bike in tiptop shape) I have found most of the other chapters read so far (which in fairness is only about half) to be total fluff and of little value. Worst off, some of the valuable chapters seem to have little added value when compared to the FREE DMV material. Unless you really have to know the "Ten Must-See Motorcycling Movies" save some money, use the internet when you have questions and take an intro level rider training course.

- Good book for repairs and general work on the bike. I wish it had some of the information that an owner's manual contains, but it does give maintenance schedules.
