1. I had a service manual from Harley and it was not as useful as this Clymer's manual. The pictures are better and the descriptions are more complete and easy to follow. Any one trying to do their own repairs or just getting to know the workings of their bike will be more than happy with it. Professionals will be satisfied with either book. Ride safe people.



2. This repair manual is excellent, detailed instructions and pictures aid in repairs. It's actually equal or better than HD's.



3. I got frustrated using this manual to do basic maintenance as well as major work. For example, just doing a 2500 mile service requires flipping back & forth between the instructions and the tables of torque specs, fluid capacities, etc. Annoying as heck. Some of the pictures are useful, others are completely useless.
   
   What really got me was that in many cases, the procedures listed are just plain completely WRONG. Example: Removing the tank canopy with fuel filter, etc. on a 2003 Touring model. Clymer says to pull the assembly straight out of the tank. Completely wrong!! Only after I bought the Harley service manual did I find out there is a spring-loaded hinge, and you CAN'T get the canopy assembly out unless you know how to do it.
   
   The Harley manual is WELL worth the extra $20-30. My Clymer manual went out with last week's recycle, and I won't buy another one.

1. Nice book about the technical inside of the older HD engines like flathead, knucklehead and panhead. Pictures and drawings of valve-arrangements etc. etc.
   Not a technical bible or referencebook, but nice to have and to read.



2. Written and published in England. What can they possibly tell us about the Harley? Good pictures of antique bikes and a decent history that is not up to date.

2. ...I ordered this book as a gift for my brother-in-law, who's into motorcycles. I thought the book would be exactly what the title said: a celebration of the long, proud history of Harley-Davidson, replete with gorgeous, suitable-for-framing photos of the company's products. The book arrived. I took one look at it, and gave it instead to my friend Bob, who has a taste for oddities. Bob took one look at it, and exclaimed, "THIS IS A COFFEE-TABLE BOOK ABOUT HELL'S ANGELS!" As indeed it is, down to the last bike-chain-wielding bruiser and Jello-wrestling biker babe. Sure, they all ride Harleys, but Harley-Davidson itself is--shall we say--peripheral to the book's actual theme. The photos are very well-done, if suitable-for-framing pix of Hell's Angels are what you want.
