  1. Just as I expected. Full of anything you want to know and then some more.

  2. Unless you are going to let the dealer turn every screw on your bike, you need this. The BMW manual is hopelessly vague on so many items that there really isn't any substitute. I've found a few minor things wrong but overall it is extremely useful. The only thing I don't care for is that they've crammed so many models into the manual and there is no index, so it can take a while to find what you are looking for.

  3. A must for any BMW owner. A bit too involved not easily organized. Would prefer chapters on individual maintance procedures instead of jumping through chapters to find information. Would also perfer a book on individual models instead of covering so many different bikes. Still it is a book that one should have to seriously maintain their bike.

  1. Good basic guidance to repair and maintenance of a wide variety of R bikes. Even includes obscure R65-specific material.

  2. Buy the Clymer manual instead: it is far more comprehensive and much better illustrated. The modest extra cost is well worth paying!

  3. I purchased this book for my husband. He believes this is a great book for anyone that owns a BMW Twin Motorcycle to add to your collection for any work you might want to do on your own bike.

  1. I got this book as gift for my Dad. He loved it, he said it's way better than the CD version.

  2. More than satified with the service. Within a week i received the book in Australia and at a great price. It has everything in the book I require to conduct minor service work and is the detail is a great help for the novist motorcycle enthusiast.

  3. This is one of those Murphy Law situations. I bought the book hoping to find an answer to an electrical problem. Unfortunately the book doesn't seem to address any 'add-on' electricals, such as radio, gps etc. So, I had to wing it and found the partially disconnected wire the old way, just started moving wires until the break became apparent. Overall, however, it's great to have the book as a reference when I get to actual mechanical and body issues. It's really nice to have a manual available for a BMW, which is quite proprietary in most cases.

  4. The Clymer BMW K12 book for 1998-2005 models is a must for owners. The manual will answer in detail most any question about maintenance, toubleshooting and repairs. It is very useful in determining what a non-profrssional can do and what is best left to the professionals at a shop or dealer. The book is detailed and methodical in its approach to periodic maintenace i.e. changing the oil, so the a person with basic skills can accomplish such tasks.

  5. A very nicely written manaual that has a lot of information not available in the BMW shop manual, including electrics, and how to do things if you don't own the special tool. Also about 1/4 the price.
    Recommended.

  1. This book has proven to be an excellent resource for facts and information on the E30 3 series. The detail is exquisite. It has proven indespensible during the build up of my first BMW. If you are interested in the vintage three, you need this book. Although written by a Brit, the U.S. cars are represented well.

  2. I found this book very informative. I have an E30 M3 and often reference items in the book.

  3. I live in Sri Lanka. I bought this book from Amazon. I learned many technical information from this book. This is very good referance book for E30 owners. It has explained good and bad things about E30 cars. I think all the BMW E30 owners should have this book.

  4. Breat book with many tips and tricks you will not find anywhere else. If you are restoring one of these, it will pay for itself times over again. Only caveat: it was written by a british author and therefore refers to the GB models and therefore is somewhat overloaded with info about models that were never sold here. It also misses some US model info, e.g. 4:10 rear axle ratio that was used here for 325ia cars.

  5. Has more than a few tidbits to help out with your older BMW. Has too many models to cover to make it a must have. You can read what is useful to your model in an afternoon. Hit your local library first.

  1. I bought this book after reading David Edward's "Cycle World" editorial column in which he called it "an excellent book." He was right--the writing is gripping. I read it from cover to cover twice. There's not as much nuts and bolts stuff in here as in some other BMW books, but that stuff bores me anyway. I really don't care what the valve timing was on a 1963 R50/2. What I do care about is the history of the bikes and of the company. I care about what it is like to ride these bikes. I care about the people who created them. That's what's in here. It makes those other books read like parts lists. And the photography is top notch.

I liked this book so much that this fall I traded my Harley Softail in on a R1200GS. I've been riding Harleys since 1978, so that's saying something.

  2. I'm a big fan of these bikes, and there's no better history and no more entertaining of a book than this one. Holmstrom tells a "warts and all" story and Nelson glitzes it up with excellent photos. It's the kind of book you want to put out on the coffee table when you invite the fellas over for tea and monkey-wrenching in the garage...fun stuff.

  3. I would recommend this book to any BMW motorcycle enthusiast. Good photography and an excellent read, full of interresting information.

  4. This is a fantastic book. The photography is some of the best I have seen, and the author takes what could be a stodgy story and makes it come alive. Very entertaining!

  5. It is a good book full of excellent quality photographs that match the text making the review of the evolution of BMW motorcyles clear and enjoyable to read. Great book to have for those BMW motorad fans! Next edition should include the description of the newest models.

  1. I needed a good book to detail the pieces of the R100GS fairing and control cluster, so I could re-assemble a bike that had been badly "customized" This manual had the diagrams, the pictures, and the wiring information I needed. Good history on the different BMW models in the preface as well.

  2. A friend of mine that helped me fix up my old BMW has one of these, and we used it extensively as a reference, so I had to buy one. He has a couple of airheads himself and knows much about the general ideas behind the engine, but he does not have the same model as mine so we used this book for some of the specifications. I tend to like this book more than the Haynes manual, which my friend has as well. NOTE: I have read on some of the discussion forums that both the Clymer's and Haynes have a few errors/type-o's in them, and it is good to check multiple sources for any major job you have to do.

  3. If youre in the USA (the Haynes manual is prefered if you're in the UK) and need a thorough well diagrammed and photographed repair and maintance manual, this is it. It tells you all of the tools you'll need for each project and goes over maintance procedures and fault diagnosis step by step. An invaluable resource.

  4. Pretty comprehensive manual considering the range of models and years it covers. I recommend putting index tabs throughout the sections you're about ready to use that are applicable to you model. Good schematics, breakdowns and fairly clear photos.
