- I have used various maps for various cities - popups, Lonely Planet, etc - and this is by far my favorite. Get this for on the ground and Rick Steves' travel guides for your homework ahead of time and you're set. Has great maps with attractions and places of interest highlighted. Very light and great to use as you're walking around places. Maps are very easy to navigate. I love these maps!

- Nice and small and only shows the very downtown, like 3" x 2" should be a nice pocket map for walking around.

- "Touring Map Scotland" by Collins, is a large scale (1:316,000 or five miles to the inch) map showing the road network, a sense of physical geography, and the location of most tourist attractions on a single map. As such, it is a very useful resource for planning an automobile trip around Scotland. The graphics are easy to read and the map itself is nicely presented.
That said, this map should not be the traveler's only resource for planning and navigating around the cities and the Highlands of Scotland. many of the secondary roads are either not included or are hard to discern. The presentation of terrain lacks detail. The symbols that mark items of tourist interest are small and require frequent reference to the symbol key to decypher. The methodology for picking the items to be posted to the map may be a little inconsistent as well.
The visiter to Scotland will find the Collins Touring Map Scotland to be a useful planning resource, but is advised to use a more detailed map for driving, and to consult one of many very adequate guidebooks for Scotland for more details on the many fascinating attractions.
- This map is great if you are trying to work out a self-drive tour of Scotland. The map is very detailed, and has attractions marked in red so it is easy to create an itinerary. However, like a previous reviewer mentioned, the map is a bit large and cumbersome to be used to help you while you are on the road. It's absolutely great for pre-planning though.
- The scale on this map makes it easy to see the roads. The symbols for the sites are a little small but if you are using another source like Frommers it is easy to find the sites. The scale is 1 inch equals 5 miles so it is good for plotting out a trip but the map is so big and unwieldy it would be very difficult to use in a car. Still I recommend the map if you are planning a trip to Scotland.

- Great guide book that will fit easily into a backpack or other bag. Hits all the highlights without the history and other info in larger, heavier travel guide. Grab one for each city you plan to visit and take them with you!
- I bought both this guide and the DK Eyewitness Scotland guide before my trip to Edinburgh. This handy, little, pocket guide was well worth every penny. It was much more informative, had great ideas and suggested fantastic, don't miss, sights. It has everything you need to have a great trip in a city you don't know. The fold out map was a great help too.
The food/restaurant section was hit and miss.A couple of the places we tried were fantastic...a couple of other, terrible. Do not do the Mexican food in Scotland despite what the guide book says. Enough said.
This is the only book you need. It fits in your purse/backpack. We wrote all over ours before we left and hit everything we wanted to do and see.
- I purchased this guidebook for my recent trip to Edinburgh Scotland and I was extremely pleased with all of the useful information. The book breaks down each area of the city and tells you what you can do there, good places to eat, and great pubs/clubs you can visit. Each section also has a map showing where each detailed location is. Also, in the back of the book there is a larger fold out map showing the whole city. Depending on how long you are staying, the book suggests itineraries to help you get the most out of your trip. The guidebook is a convenient size that fits easily into a purse or bag but is also easily carried without feeling weighed down. I would recommend this book to any one traveling to Edinburgh, especially if it is your first visit.

5 comments about Streetwise Edinburgh Map - Laminated City Center Street Map of Edinburgh, Scotland.
- This map is durable and, most of the time, quite convenient and useful. However, it shows the Royal Infirmary (the only hospital in Edinburgh with an ER) in its old location, which is a considerable distance from its present location.
Considering that the hospital moved to its present location in 2003, I think they've had ample time to update the map, which is dated as "revised 2007."
Hopefully most travelers in need of emergency aid will call 999 or get a taxi, but woe to those who try to make it there themselves using this map!
- This is a great map, I did review the map and plot out where I would be staying while in Edinburgh, as well a few places that I wanted to go. Street names are well labeled, it fit the need I had while I was there, however I just wish it was a bit more compact. If it folded over once more, to fit in your pocket, it would be just about perfect.
- "Streetwise Edinburgh" is a handy and updated (revised 2008) guide to walking Edinburgh, the fine capital of Scotland, and driving in its immediate environs. "Streetwise Edinburgh" is actually five maps contained on one laminated and folding sheet.
On one side, there is a 1:2,200,000 scale map of Scotland, showing the principal roads and geographic features and probably detailed enough for a general orientation. Second on this side is a 1:120,000 scale Edinburgh Area Map, showing the city from the A720 ring road to the Firth of Forth coast. The third map on this side is a 1:11,000 scale depiction of the Port of Leith and the immediate area near the shore, including the permanent home of the Royal Yacht Britannia. This rather crowded side include a directory to Edinburgh streets.
The flip side of the folded sheet has a 1:200,000 of the Edinburgh Region, including the city itself, the Lothians, and that area of Fife bordering the Firth of Forth. Perhaps most importantly, this side includes a 1:11,000 scale depiction of the Old Town, including the Castle, the Palace of Holyrood, and the adjacent Holyrood Park. This map include a good selection of the more prominent visitor attractions.
"Streetwise Edinburgh" is highly recomemmended to those planning to walk Edinburgh and explore the surrounding area by automobile.
- This is a must have if you are driving or walking in Edinburgh. Have several of these folding Streetwise maps and have yet to be dissapointed.
- This map was worthless. It did not have the street we were looking for and did nothing to help us get around the city.

- Purchased this book to help with planning for a forthcoming trip to Scotland. Seems fairly informative, but can only really review it after taking the trip.
- If you are planing on spending more than a few days in Scotland, you should read this book.
- Wonderful book. Gives all of the information that you could ever need while visiting Scotland. I know where to sleep, where to eat, where to drink, what sites to see, and everything in between now. Thank you!
- I've been to Scotland 8 times (my relatives live there) and I think the author and I have differing opinions on what towns are really worth seeing. On our most recent trip a couple months ago we used this guide to travel through southern Scotland, an area we hadn't been to before. We found a few of the towns recommended to not be worth the drive there. Also, it seems that the book was not really updated. One wonderful restaurant in Oban was not listed (Seafood Temple) even though it was the most popular and famous restaurant and one restaurant we tried to go to in Elgin had apparently been closed for about 3 years.
- We are planning a trip to Scotland this pring and this book has been invaluable!

- This is a great map! A fantastic combination with the in-car navigation. It definitely would not have been as easy to get around Scotland without it!
- The Michelin Scotand Regional Map is invaluable for auto-touring in Scotland. At a 1/400,000 scale, it covers all of Scotland on one large, folded map, updated annually, yet is in sufficient detail to enable navigation from town to town. Its multi-colored presentation and simplified graphics allows the experienced map-reader to dope out a sense of terrain as a navigation aid. It includes an index of cities, towns, and major villages, and inset maps of Glasgow and Edinburgh, the major cities.
It is fair to note a couple of shortcomings. The paper format wears poorly under repeated refolding of the map to get at an area of interest, and tends not to survive close encounters with coffee or tea. However, when supplemented with Ordnance Survey large scale maps for hiking or other off-the-road activities, the Michelin Scotland Regional Map is highly recommended as an invaluable aid for exploring Scotland.
- I haven't even opened the package. It came after we had been HOME from Scotland for a week.
- Like many of the other reviewers, I found this map WAY too big to use comfortably in the car. Why not print on both sides and split the country up? Completely unfolded, I think the map must be about 6 ft square -- I may be exaggerating, but that's how it seemed to me.
- I have been to Scotland five times. Very detailed map. I have been to many cities in Scotland and we don't get lost when we drive. I also took a picture of an island off the coast of Ireland from the airplane and the island was on the Scotland map. This was great!
