1 comments about Land Between The Lakes Outdoor Recreation Handbook: A Complete Guide for Hikers, Campers, Anglers, Equestrians, and Other Outdoor Enthusiasts.
- I have backpacked the north south trail twice. Spent several days on the lake fishing and skiing. This handbook is the best book anywhere I have looked for mileage, campsites and boat ramps. I would like better maps than what it has. Mileage of trails are right on!

2 comments about Illustrated Atlas of the Himalaya.
- The Himalayas are extensively featured as asides in many geography and history titles, but until now have not been given their own complete coverage. ILLUSTRATED ATLAS OF THE HIMALAYA is the first in-depth atlas to focus entirely on the region, with its authors holding over 25 years of combined experience to do so: cartography, GIS and photography expertise creates an outstanding title. Presented in an oversized edition to embrace the fine photos, ILLUSTRATED ATLAS surveys local tribes, geological history, changes, and relationships between land and peoples throughout the region, using color key-coded maps and charts and plenty of color photos.

- This big size volume contains an excellent overview of the Himalaya in photographs. This is enlightened by explaining texts on nature, culture and society.
Recommended to anyone who visited ever the Himalaya, or to those who wish to do so.
The book shows the sheer beauty and splendour of a mountain range, that is of crucial meaning to the eco system of Asia.

4 comments about 100 Trails of the Big South Fork: Tennessee and Kentucky (100 Hikes In...).
- This is a natural. These two states are often confused and lumped together. It is good that we have a book to deepen our understanding of this neck of the woods.
- I love this book. It is very accurate and descriptive. It gives all the information needed to hike these trails. The trailhead descriptions are easy to locate and the trail directions are easy to follow. It was on one of these trails that I had my first up-close encounter with a black bear and her cub. No problems. Whew...
I recently had the pleasure of meeting the author of this book on a trail in the Smokies. He was taking notes of changes since the last edition of his 100 Hikes in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park book. This tells me that he keeps up to date of changes.
I enjoy this book enough to also own another of Russ Manning's books. 40 Hikes in Tennessee's South Cumberland which is a book I highly reccommend also.
- 100 Trails of the Big South Fork: Tennessee & Kentucky (100 Hikes In...)
I've only flipped through this book so far, but just seeing it in my living room is a reminder that I need to go there to do some hiking. My grandmother grew up in this area, and I have visited there many times in my life. I know how beautiful and peaceful it is, and I ordered this book so that when my husband and I go for a visit, we can research these trails so we can see more of the area. The book has many details about each hike that makes planning a hiking vacation very easy. If you are visiting this area, this book is a "must have" so you don't miss all the area has to offer.
- This book had excellent descriptions of the trails, and despite trail markings that were sometimes difficult to follow, the book guided us through comfortably. That being said, the book has at least one blatant error in it. The book says you do not need to register to camp in the back country, but we learned that this is false. Back country registration is required, and there is a $5 fee for each party of 6 or less.

2 comments about 50 Hikes in Kentucky: From the Appalachian Mountains to the Land Between the Lakes (50 Hikes Guides).
- Hiram Rogers has done it again! As an avid outdoorsman, Hiram's trail guides have helped me navigate my way through the Black Hills of South Dakota and some equally rewarding trails in Kentucky. Hiram's latest book incorporates wonderful photography and a meticulous description of what one will see and experience. Having read both books before traversing the respective trails, I could almost anticipate what was behind every bend. I look forward to his next release!
- If you're a fan of the 50 Hikes Series (like I am), you're going to fall in love this offering. As the title suggests, this book describes 50 hikes in the Bluegrass State, ranging in length from 0.9 to 13.4 miles. The entire state is covered, from Breaks Interstate Park and Big South Fork in the east to Land Between the Lakes and Mammoth Cave in the west. You'll find a hike for every ability and for every interest in here.
Each hike contains driving directions (starting at a nearby town), a map copied from the USGS topo maps, and a well-informed and well-written background on the area. A summary table in the front of the book helps you select a hike of interest quickly. Most of the "famous" trails in Kentucky are described here, with a few lesser-known options thrown in. Of particular note are two cave "hikes" (i.e. tours) that are described in the Mammoth Cave section, something I'm not sure I've seen in a hiking guide before. These two count toward the 50-hikes total, so there are really 48 "traditional" hikes. Having done a considerable amount of hiking in Kentucky, there were a couple of trails that I was expecting to be included that were not. Perhaps they could have been if not for the cave tours, but Hiram's choice makes the book different and more interesting. This work still contains the "best and brightest" trails in Kentucky. Having thoroughly enjoyed Hiram's earlier work "Exploring the Black Hills and Badlands," I was expecting big things out of this book. I was not disappointed. I have several guides to Kentucky hiking on my bookshelf, and this one is the best. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about trails or is interested in Kentucky hiking.

4 comments about A Canoeing & Kayaking Guide to Kentucky, 5th (Canoeing & Kayaking Guides - Menasha).
- If you live in Kentucky and do any kayaking or canoeing, you need this book. If there is a more comprehensive guide to the waterways of Kentucky, I'd like to see it.
- Technically accurate and informationally superb! This guide is THE ONLY guide to buy for midwest paddlers interested in the rivers and streams of the Bluegrass State. There is more information in this guide than most paddlers are likely to digest in a lifetime. It is an easy read and as hard to put down as a good novel. Each page is packed with details that drive the "home stranded" paddler to the next page. It will make you crave the flowing waters of Kentucky. A MUST OWN!!!
- This guide is pretty accurate. I just went on a kayaking trip this past weekend. This was my second time kayaking so I depended on this guide, it was a perfect trip.
- Good book, but not very detailed for put in/out of rivers. I wished it had GPS coordinates.

1 comments about Hiking Kentucky, 2nd: A Guide to Kentucky's Greatest Hiking Adventures (State Hiking Series).
- This has been a great resource in finding trails throughout Kentucky. The directions and descriptions are very accurate. We've done a number of hikes listed in this book, and are looking forward to doing many more. I've also enjoyed the author's descriptions of the trails and surrounding areas. If you enjoy exploring and hiking, this is a wonderful resource.

- Looking for an adventure? Then look no further that the Kentucky Atlas and Gazetteer. These easy to use maps provide excellent political and some geographical detail of the roadways and byways in the state. Get off the interstate and explore!
- Delorme Gazetteers open up another world for people who like to just "cruise around" and not get lost.
- The Kentucky Atlas & Gazetteer, as well as all other DeLorme products are superior and great companions to any GPS system you may have. A definite must have product.
- I was in shock to use this map. I have always trusted Delorme to have the best back road maps anywhere, but this one had a lot of errors. For context, I travel the smallest, outback roads for camping/exploring. I found this Kentucky map to have a lot of roads not listed were there and roads listed that weren't there, especially in the Daniel Boone National Forest and Big South Fork areas that I visited. I would still recommend the map, but just be aware that you will need other forms of navigation and maps to assist this map.
- I like to buy one of these atlases for each state I will be traveling through on trips. They work great overall but should be used in conjunction with more detailed maps for the large cities.
