- I'm not sure if this was intended as a sequel to 'Encounters of The Spooky Kind'. I enjoyed this film a lot. Basically, it was about Sammo's character trying to avenge the death of one of his friends, played by Wu Ma, who he suspects was murdered.
There isn't much fighting in this one, compared to the previous film. Sammo has one big fight scene in the middle, and that's pretty much it. But the comedy is hilarious, especially when he's going around town arguing with his ghost friend who no one else can see! Lam Ching Ying didn't do any fighting in this film. He pretty much played the same role (Taoist priest) he would go on to play in his Mr Vampire films. Overall, a fun movie, even though the ending is sudden - like jumping off some cliff.

- I watched this after watching Royal Warriors (aka In the Line of Duty II, also with Michelle Yeoh) and this film was great as well. Yes, Madam(aka In the Line of Duty or Police Assassins) is about two top police women from their respective countries teaming up to retrieve a micro film which is evidence to put away some mob guy. Well, he's a bad guy with a lot of bodyguards and thats all you need to know. As the ...reviewer said, this is sort of like Rush Hour in reverse. The fighting is ever so awesome and brutal, I cringed several times during this one. Cynthia Rothrock shows a lot of her best stuff here, and Michelle is awesome as usual. .... The last fighting scenes are just magical with great production by Sammo Hung; plenty of crazy kick stunts and flips. However, the dvd isnt the greatest sound wise. It seems some of the sound effects were toned down, and the supposed 5.1 dolby isn't very noticable at all. If you got a Region 2 dvd player w/ PAL converter, then get Hong Kong Legends version which is under the name Police Assassins, I believe the sound was redone and the picture quality is second to none. Tsiu Hark and Sammo both make humorous guest appearances in the film as well. If you liked Royal Warriors, you'll love this and besides, its the prequel to Royal. I believe any martial arts fan will be impressed by this one. Check out Michelles other greats such as Wing Chun, Royal Warriors, CTHD (Crouching Tiger...duh), Magnificent Warriors. The only other Cynthia Rothrock movie that I could safely recommend is Righting Wrongs which is totally awesome. I would definitely recommend a buy with all these titles including Yes, Madam...check it out...hope this and my other HK flicks reviews are helpful.
- This is a bad movie. All scenes are funny and stupid. I do not like that kind of Chinese joke in this film. It is dirty and does not make any sense. I regreted to buy it.
- It is bad movie. Most of sences are joke stupidly and non-sense. At the beginning of the film indicated a dirty kind of joke that is usually see in Asian movies. It is very cheap joke for low class audiences.
- this was a fun movie michelle yeoh is in it, that's all that matters. i just wished that they would stop with the subtitles and dub it in english for region 1 viewers.
- Now some people may have been seriously injured on this film. There are scenes where a stuntman will fall HARD. I am talking about his head bouncing off of the ground a couple of times!
So the story in this movie is pretty bad, but the girly humor between Rothrick and Yeoh is as bad as it gets. Yeoh isn't so bad but Cynthia Rothrick is truly hard to watch. But then she gets to fighting and it is all good. She is nowhere near the level of performer as evrybody else in the movie but she is definitely one of the top American woman kung fu stars ever.
So Michelle has one of the best stunts ever and their are a few more in the movie to match that. While the story is really really bad, the final fight is a lot of fun. Dick Wei(Project A) has always been a good screen fighter and Chung Fat shows up as this really stupid character but he can also fight really well. So as long as you don't go into this expecting a gripping movie you should be OK. Not a ton of fights but the end I had to watch a couple of times. Good outing for Michelle Yeoh's first time doing action on screen.

2 comments about FATAL MOVE [ENGLISH SUBTITLED].
- Billed as a martial arts film, Fatal Move is really more of a so-so Triad crime drama. The film is chocked full of the usual clichés, such as the cop with a family who only has a few weeks until he's off the beat (guess how that's gonna end up?).
Fatal Move is mostly devoid of dramatic impact. It meanders along, giving us one uninteresting scene after another. A few mediocre gun battles are thrown in for good measure, as well as a couple so-so knife/sword fights that are totally ruined by the bizarre use of CGI blood. Whenever someone gets cut, huge--and I mean enormous--blobs of cartoon blood that look like, well, anything but blood spew across the screen like someone threw a basket of red Easter eggs in the air.
Also quite comic are the subtitles. The English used is VERY bad, so bad it often results in unintentional comedy. At one point a cop points a gun at a Triad member and the subtitles read, "Freeze, do move!" Hah! The film is definitely worth watching, however, for its conclusion. Trapped by the police, with arrest inevitable, Triad boss Sammo Hung tells his henchmen he will not be captured. They are to surrender. One, an old school martial artist, stays behind. They look at each other; they will be captured soon. What should their last act be? Wu Jing looks at Sammo and says, "Indeed, I never thought you were No. 1." Sammo grins. Awaiting their demise, they fight a duel, and what a duel it is. Pretty redeeming scene in my book.
- Most of the scenes are imitation of other movies starring Samo Hung. One of them is SPL (Hongkong title). The last scene that depicts the fighting between Samo and Wu Jing is very good. That's the only thing worth seeing in this film.
It has a lot of illogical holes. One of them is Samo and Wu Jing fought to death because they did not want to be caught by police! Yeah, right! They prefer to killing each other than going to jail.

2 comments about Little Superman.
- Bruce liang is known for his strong physical stamina... In this movie Liang works his leg and fist on the Japenese and chinese traitors......explosive sound effects that keeps the echo in your head....Check his other well known movie " Bruce, Hong Kong Master"... Do not miss it...
- Bruce Leung Siu Lung is seriously spring loaded and he is on fire in this movie. His jumping kicks are the best I have ever seen. Let me talk about the story real quick and then I will talk more about the action.
James Nam plays a Japanese Colonel who is after a secret Chinese document. Wong Yuen San plays an officer of the law who hires Bruce Leung to keep the document safe. That is really all you need to know. Han Kwok Choi, Meng Hoi and others help Bruce Leung out. Meng Hoi looks like he is about 13 years old. And John Chang has a nice small role and gets to take James nam on 1 on 1. This movie is from 1975 and there are a lot of recognizable actors playing the villains. Lee Ka Ting, Chan Lau and Chan Lung all get plenty of screen time. The action never lets up and it gets more and more intense as it goes along. There is a good 40 minutes of fighting and it is all VERY good. The final fight is about 10 minutes long. It is truly one of the best fights I have ever seen. Not recommended if you are prone to seizures, because it is INSANE. There is a lot of screaming, a lot of kicking, and it gets pretty bloody. PURE hate right here. Saying it's intense doesn't even begin to describe it. It's a very brutal fight, and I have never seen anything like it before.
Rating- 5/5
As a movie, this only gets like a 3/5, but the fighting gets a 100/100. EASILY one of the best kung fu movies I have ever seen.
I have the Videoasia version under the title Kung Fu Superman and the picture quality is decent enough. And best of all it seems to be uncut. Unfortunately, the disc only works on some DVD players. You just have to hope your DVD player will play it.

1 comments about Martial Arts Essentials, Vol. 3: Best of the Best Series.
- Wow what a great deal. If I didn't already have these movies I would snatch this up ASAP. I will just give a very brief review for each movie. I bought this for a friend of mine, and we watched all of the movies together, so I will be able to go over the picture quality for each movie. And all of these movies are English dubbed.
SEVEN STEPS OF KUNG FU- in my opinion, this movie features the best fighting performances of all of these actors careers- Chang Shan (the white haired villain), Ricky Cheng Tien Chi, Chia Kai and Tommy Lee. Lung Fei also gets to fight, and it is a great fight, though I don't think it was quite his alltime best. The movie is pretty much nonstop fights and the finale is one of the best ever. You can't go wrong with this.
Rating- 4.5/5
The picture is widescreen and is decent enough quality.
CALL ME DRAGON- if you haven't heard of Bruce Leung Siu Lung, then you need to get with it. He's one of the best kickers to ever hit the kung fu screen, right there with Hwang Jang Lee and Cassanova Wong. He's a little guy, but he's like a million firecrackers all rolled up into one. Watch out when this guy explodes. Yasuaki Kurata is the villain in this movie, and there is tons and tons of awesome fighting with both Kurata and Bruce Leung. I didn't think it was quite as good of a movie as Little Superman, but it's very close.
4.5/5
Picture is full screen and pretty decent quality.
MY LIFE'S ON THE LINE aka SIXTY SECOND ASSASSIN- Wan Li Peng stars as Minute Fong, one of the baddest dudes you will ever see. I wish I knew why he didn't have more big roles in his career. This movie is pretty much nonstop fighting, and it is some of the best choreography I have ever seen. And I have to mention Leung Kar Yan. I don't think he has ever looked more evil than he does in this movie. Great acting job by him, and great fighting performance too!
4/5
Picture is kind of bad, but still more than watchable. Full screen.
FEARLESS DRAGONS- Leung Kar Yan and Phillip Ko star as 2 thieves who... don't like eachother. Ummm, how do I say this. This movie is horrible. But, it has some of the best fights you will ever see. Phillip Ko and Leung Kar Yan are really on the top of their games. The secret styles they use at the end will make you forget how bad the rest of the movie is. The final fight is like 12 minutes long. Leung Kar Yan and Phillip Ko vs Johnny Wang Lung Wei. What else do I need to say?
3.5/5
Picture quality is decent. Full screen.
SUPERPOWER- very enjoyable movie starring Billy Chong. I can't say it's a great kung fu movie, but it is very good. I always have a good time rewatching it because of how many quality fights there are. The villain is another guy who I wish did more movies, Hau Chiu Sing. He's so oldschool. The way he fights makes him look like he belongs in a movie from 1971. And to me that's a good thing lol.
3.5/5
Full screen and decent quality.
The last movie is a great documentary called Top Fighter. If you are just getting into the genre, you are really going to love this documentary. Even if you know a lot about kung fu movies, it is still a great documentary.

2 comments about Man From Hong Kong (Digitally Remastered) DVD.
- A not too bad action film from the 70's with George Lazenby as a Aussie mob boss taken on by a karate/kung fu cop (Jimmy Wang YU) from Hong Kong. Lazenby's death is a classic moment to rank with Cagney's top of the world in White Heat. Too bad this isn't yet on region 1 DVD. Film's theme song ("Sky High") was a modest hit on the top 40 charts.
- Jimmy Wang Yu had been a star of Hong Kong martial arts films and swordplay adventures for ten years (ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN, CHINESE BOXER), first for Shaw Bros. and then for Golden Harvest, when he was assigned by the latter to make THE MAN FROM HONG KONG (1975) in Australia, in English, with an Australian crew, with fight scenes choreographed by Hong Kong actor Sammo Hung. The idea was to try to position Wang Yu as an international star, the "new Bruce Lee," and replicate the success of the Hollywood/Golden Harvest co-production from two years earlier, ENTER THE DRAGON, starring Bruce Lee, who had died in July 1973, a month before the film's release.
In THE MAN FROM HONG KONG (released in the U.S. as THE DRAGON FLIES), Wang Yu had to forego his usual intensity and play a suave, womanizing Hong Kong detective ("Special Branch") who comes to Sydney, Australia to extradite a drug peddler (Sammo Hung), but winds up embroiled in a running battle with Sydney crime boss Wilton, played by George Lazenby, a one-time James Bond (ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE). Like so many 1970s action movies, the flimsy plot is routinely put on hold to indulge in gratuitous chase scenes filled with lame gags. There are a couple of '70s-obligatory love scenes pairing Wang Yu with two forgettable Australian actresses. One of these includes a long, insipid romantic montage involving horseback riding on a ranch in the Aussie countryside, underscored by the song, "A Man is a Man is a Man."
There are plenty of fight scenes, though, and I have to admit that for a mid-1970s made-in-Australia action film, the fights are certainly better-than-average. However, once you've seen what Hong Kong filmmakers were doing so successfully at the time, it's hard to be very impressed. Choreographer Sammo Hung, who went on to become a notable kung fu film director himself, was somewhat hampered by the Australians' demand for more "realistic" fight scenes, meaning he had to subdue his normally active kung fu imagination and concentrate on "street fighting," much of which is quite brutal and bloody. There is one fairly traditional Hong Kong-style kung fu sequence involving traditional weapons at a martial arts school, where Wang Yu takes on a room full of Chinese "students" working for the villain. Sammo appears in a pre-credits fight scene staged on the picturesque Outback tourist site, Ayers Rock. Lazenby has a few fight scenes also, and he's not bad. There's also a clever finale involving a penthouse, a vault filled with explosives and a 90-second fuse.
Wang Yu is dubbed in English throughout. His character speaks Mandarin in one scene with Sammo, forcing the viewer to grab the remote, reverse the disc a few seconds and turn on the subtitles.
Interestingly, the film's theme song, "Sky High," is more famous than the film itself. Performed by a group called Jigsaw, it became a top-40 hit at the time and is still played on oldies stations. ("You've blown it all sky high, by telling me a lie, without a reason why...")
This Region 3 DVD from Fortune Star offers a high quality print and transfer. Extras include the original trailer and two deleted dialogue scenes, one of which fills in a minor, but gnawing plot hole.
