  1. ok this move is funny but the only good action is at the end and it is mosle fist fiting no using odd objects like a lader ect but the fiting at the end was wiy it got a 3 not a 1. If you like the odd objects that he fits with than this move is not for you but than agin this is my opion not yours

  2. This is a great movie, and it has a wonderful plot. The humor is dead-on, and I really enjoyed the action in it. Might not be one of the movies you watch to see just Jackie, but it's wonderful to see Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao (though he's not in it very much) and Jackie Chan working together. The acting is good, and it's great to watch in subtitles or voice-over. I'd suggest anyone who's a fan of Jackie Chan or of Chinese import action-comedy movies to buy this movie. You won't regret it.

  3. I this is a very good movie written by Sammo Hung I must say this it is a very childish movie! As it was was made to be this is the considerd the second movie in the very long series that just continues. actully the series borrows from Winners and sinners(considerd to be the first) but isn't also Pom Pom borrows from winners and sinners. Most of this movie is about nothing but jokes about grooping and rapeing women. I dont want to say too much about this movie becuase I want you to watch it but first one must watch winners and sinners. Kang Jack sang is only in the first 3 movies a little sammo comes in and out from time to time after the first three but it is a stupid movie and if you dont like those dont watch the movie but I love sammo hung he is a great actor and writer he just never got as huge as Kang Jack Sang(Jakie Chan) Becuase he likes to share the spot light and isnt as selfcentered as Kang Jack Sang.

    Richard eing funny funny man
Yuen Baio great stunt guy and actor I think never got famious but needs a hand used to do a lot of Kang Jack sang's (JACKIE CHAN'S) stunts ALL THE TIME but never got the credit.

I like some of Kang Jack Sang's movies but I don't respect him as a person

  4. This movie is just like Winners and Sinners and it is actually sort of a sequel. In Winners and Sinners Yuen Biao has about 30 seconds of screen time and has a good fight in his extremely limited role. He is in this one for maybe 3 minutes and somehow seems to fight even less!

Curly gets replaced by a stupid little kid type of character but as stupid as he looks, Sammo manages to make all of the characters pretty likeable. Charlie Chin(On the Run) had a great scheme in Winners and Sinners where he would go into a jewerly store, ask to see a diamond ring, go up to a random person, act like the person is their friend, go to shake their hand but really put a fake gun in their hand, and right as he gives the person the gun it goes off and he has blood packets ready and runs off out of the store with the diamond ring acting like he really got shot. I never got enough of that gag! Well Sammo certainly can't top that but all of the characters are just as enjoyable as Winners.

So the story is not really that important. Muscles(Jackie Chan) and Yuen Biao are looking for this defective cop at the start of the movie and Biao ends up being kidnapped(Don't worry, you see him again 80 minutes later). So Jackie says he needs his fat friend(Sammo) to help him on this mission of getting his friend back and also getting back contraband diamonds. Sammo says he needs his friends to come with and he will be mroe than happy to help. Next we get a very nice looking woman to work with them and the boys get to play games with her for the next 30 minutes. Finally at the end Jackie meets back up with Sammo and we get a great final fight. THERE IS NO ACTION IN THIS MOVIE UNTIL THE FINAL FIGHT!! We get a punch or two from Jackie and Yuen Biao at the start but literally nothing else until the end! And what an end it was. Jackie vs. DIck Wei, an AWESOME chick fight, and of course with Sammo as the main star of the movie, he gets some of his best fight scenes ever.

Sammo's jokes are sort of hit and miss just like in Winners and Sinners but when they are pulled off it is guaranteed you will be laughing for a while.

  5. Im a spoiled fan of Chan in Western flicks, and was expecting more of the same. Wrong. The characters and plot were sophomoric and mostly a clumsy attempt at Three-Stooges type comedy. Example - when not in their black "uniform," the scowling bad Ninjas appear in 50's style zoot-suits and broad-brimmed hats (except the sexy female baddie). The two main fight scenes (very early, and at the end) totaled about 10-15" and were classic Chan. Otherwise, a much better investment of time and bucks is Li's "Fearless."

5 comments about US Seals 2.
  1. Okay, getting out of the way that we all know what kind of film we are watching, I will approach it from there....

The film definately has some of the better fight scenes from the low budget (and even higher budget) American action films. The choreography, as well as the actors themselves, is all top notch. The only thing that kills it though is the VERY over thte yop sound effects. They work fine during a fight, but when someone moves a finger and we hear the same sound....that's a problem.

Actor Michael Worth (Ghost Rock) carries the role well, even if he may seem a bit young to be a retired SEAL leader. The writing left him little to do with dialouge, but he makes it his own and remains charming. He seems to be one of those actors that has not quite been noticed by the studios yet but probably will be soon. His co stars Karen Kim and Marshall Teague all work well together and make a good team.

The fights are very Hong Kong in style and should be the main point of interest for this film since the premise is all to set up the action.

Not much gunning or SEAL tactics, but plenty of spin kicks and some battling babes if that is to your liking.

  2. I've been a military historian for a long time and this movie disgusted me from start to finish. A few bones I had to pick with the tactical inaccuracies.

1: While Navy SEALS are unconventional, they do NOT use two sidearms at once. Every law enforcement officer, Ranger, Green Beret, D-Boy, HRT guy or even an Air Force ROTC Cadet would tell you that using two sidearms at once is tactically stupid and dangerous.
2: SEALs do not jump and flip around like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. SEALs use stealth, surprise, CQB and avoid open warfare. During the opening scene the "SEALS" were jumping all over the place doing Ninja-like moves... maybe the Navy was cutting back on 9mm ammo to save money.
3: SEALS are almost always training on post, not some dojo in Japan unless it's on their own time during leave or whatever. There was more emphasis on martial arts then on UDT, CQB and all else that one would expect from a spec ops movie.

There are countless other tactical inaccuracies that I could spend all day nit-picking. But onto the big stuff.

Everyone else already hit it, but the whooshing sounds got to be very annoying. When one dude looked around I heard the whooshing sound. I was half-expecting the "SEALs" to pull out their little Power Ranger emblems and call forth their little dinos. Everyone also died in very interesting ways, one right off the bat, another after taking on like 3 people while his commander was kicking the hell out of like a whole platoon of ninjas.

Then there's the whole thing to prevent the SEALs from using firearms, cause of the gas around the island. Well gee, since nuclear weapons can only explode if you detonate them, let's just bomb the place and be done with it.

The whole movie was just a waste of time and my money. Avoid this crappy movie and get Navy SEALs. Charlie Sheen may not be the best actor in the world, but at least he acts better then the entire cast of the US SEALs II.

  3. Prior to watching this, I thought that it would be like the Delta Force movies which involve a lot of machine gun action. U.S. Seals 2 is actually a Kung Fu movie with very little machine gun action. The fighting choreography is very well done. The fighting looked very realistic and exciting. I enjoyed this movie a lot.

The plot is a little cheesy. It's a typical B movie situation where a scientist gets kidnapped by a madman who wants to extort the government for ransom money.

  4. 'US Seals 2' is your ordinary direct to TV action movie. The story is about a US Seal turned traitor who plots to hold America hostage with a big missile. He wants a billion dollars or else America goes up in ashes. So, a group of elite soldiers are sent to take him down. Excuse me for giving away just about the entire movie, but that is seriously all that happens. There is no real character development, and the plot holes never end. What sets this movie apart is director Isaac Florentine. Florentine is pretty good at martial arts himself and his movies always feature outstanding action. The problem in this is the action scenes come in chunks 10 minutes long, but the plot doesn't even pretend to exist. When a fight scene starts, there is no telling when or if it will end.

The fights are really the only thing to talk about. There is a point made early on that no guns are allowed since there is a gas leak or something at the bad guy's hideout. All I need to hear is "no guns" and I get excited. I was hoping for a lot of hand to hand and maybe some weapons combat, and I actually got more of the weapons. The most amazing part of the movie is all of the cast members appear to be good athletes, and 4 or 5 are incredible. The stunt work is top notch, and so is the editing. Unlike Hong Kong style action, there is a lot of rapid cuts. Actors are only shown doing up to 3 or 4 moves per shot, but the editing actually helps the fights flow together, unlike recent movies such as 'Bourne Identity' and 'Batman Begins'. I love those 2 movies, but it is a bit disturbing how hacked up the fight scenes are. Isaac Florentine is not a brilliant storyteller, but he makes sure the action looks as good as possible. This is something I wish American directors could comprehend, but maybe they will realize it when Florentine's movies hit the big screen.

While the fights are tons of fun, there is no plot. 'The Marine' recently came out on DVD and is sort of a replica of this. No story, just action. The big difference is that 'US Seals 2' has good action. 2.5/5

The DVD from City Heat Productions doesn't even have a chapter menu, but the picture quality is very good. Sound quality is fine, but the sound effects had way too much time spent on them. You'll see what I mean.

  5. I am a huge Michael Worth fan. This was not just one of the best karate movies I have ever seen, but it also had a very good story to it. The only thing that would have made it better is if the nuke that exploded had caused casualties. The amount would not have mattered, but the point of the threat would have been better emphasized. The action sequences were very good. Excellent choreography. Mingling in a little more romance for Worth's character would have been nice. If you want action from beginning to end, with a very good storyline that keeps you on your toes , this is the movie for you. Yes, there are about a 75 people who get killed, but not grotesquely, expect for the main antagonist who deserves his manner of death. Would recommend to any karate, action fan.

I have watched many karate movies. This one is one of the better among the best.

  1. Jet Li plays Chang Mo Kei, a young fellow who was injured as a child by a life threatening Kung Fu move called the "Jinx Palm", which has made him weak and unable to learn Kung Fu. Plus on the same day his parents were both forced to commit suicide, which, as you might expect, was also no fun. Mo Kei is raised by his father's former master, a spry 100 year-old played with great aplomb by an unrecognizable, white-haired Sammo Hung, who also did a very good job as the fight choreographer for the film. The plotline is too complex to summarize, but needless to say Jet Li starts kicking ass and taking names pretty quickly. The film is of the fantastic Kung Fu variety, with people flying through the air, and using magical Kung Fu powers which put Jedi Knights and Neo to shame.

"The Evil Cult" has a variety of english titles and is based on a chinese martial arts novel which hasn't been translated to any western languages as far as I'm aware. It was supposed to be the first in a trilogy, but it didn't make enough money and so even though Jet Li, Sammo Hung, and the others involved fought to make them, it never came to pass. Apparently there have been some other films and TV Series made following the same story, but the most recent TV Series from 2003 hasn't made it to North America yet.
Still this first part of an incomplete saga is a great kung fu flick, primarily because of the incredibly quick pace, intricate plotline, bad humour, and non stop ass-kicking fun. It overwhelms the senses and if this type of flick is your cup of tea, I think you'll find this is as good as it gets. It seems to be a style of film you either get or you don't, so don't be put off by any bad reviews you see. This isn't Proust, but has its own virtues. If you like it, you likely be frustrated when it ends before resolving much of anything plot-wise, but just hold on, I'm sure they'll do a proper remake in ten years with genetic clones of the original cast or thereabouts. We'll see.

  2. I didn't care for this movie the first time I watched it. It is pretty far from believable. But the 2nd time I watched it and I knew what to expect I enjoyed it a lot more. No, humans don't shoot lightning colored chi out of their hands. And people can't live being strapped to a large boulder. But it is still a good kung fu flick.

This one is SUB-TITLED and sometimes hard to read. White letters on a white background. I would like to find another version of this movie that has been dubbed in English for my collection.

  3. Now I will go over later about the version that I have which has very easy to read subtitles.

This movie is so freaking weird, I still cannot figure out what the hell is going on. Jet li's parents are killed in a very dramatic scene, and jet gets touched by a cursed palm. The cursed palm makes it so jet cannot become good at martial arts. So guess what, he is gonna get his skills. Ya probably did not have to guess that, but this movie really goes out of it;s way for jim to learn. Definintely not your average revenge tale.

So I can't tell you exactly what I liked about this film because nothing really stands out too much, but there are so many crazy things that happen it would be impossible to list half of them. So for all you people like me who are always looking for that next great hand-to-hand movie, then this is a pretty good break.

Also this movie has a ton of stars in it. And it really tries to be a BIG movie, just doesn't quite live up to what it was supposed to be, but maybe it did, give your opinion.

Also-the version i have comes from widesceen, good picture quality, and BLACK OUTLINED subtitles. So you won't miss a thing, the sunbs are imbedded, but are easy to read, a first in my mind. The subs do run a little fast sometimes, but you can always pause. This has Dr. Wai on the other side(unwatchable picture quality), and comes in the JET LI COLLECTION. Don't get that boxed set with twin warriors and the bodyguard, but get the one that is like 11.99, and has a disc that has early jet li footage and also has a lengthy crowd lethal weapon 4 interview.
I would call those special features and when I classify them like that they are certainly some of the best special features that I have ever seen.

So get the jet li collection that HAS 4 MOVIES IN IT. Evil Cult master, Dr. Wai(unwatchable), lee-thal weapon, and I can't remember what the early footage feature is called.

Good stuff but don't buy this version unless it is longer than 103 minutes. Also people are saying you can't read the subs for this version which is a shame bacuse it didn't have enough action in it to excuse unreadable subs.

  4. Of all the movies I've heard, "Lord of Wutang" is undoubtedly the one... with the fastest pace.

Really. This movie never even pauses for breath, hurtling from one plot development to the next, and barely allowing the viewer to catch up. But if you can keep up with the rapid-fire pace, it's a rewardingly bizarre and comic adventure story with a fantastical little twist.

As a child, Mo-Kei (Jet Li) was hit with the deadly Jinx Palm, just before the terrible deaths of his parents. Mo-Kei grows up under the tutelage of a great master, but the Jinx Palm leaves him unable to fight or have sex -- until he and the sprightly marial artist Siu Chiu (Chingmy Yau) fall off a cliff.

There, Mo-Kei encounters a wacky old hermit embedded in a boulder, who teaches him the great "Solar Stance" kung-fu and cures him of the Jinx Palm. Now Mo-Kei can seek revenge for his parents' deaths, but he and Siu Chiu find themselves in the middle of a massive power struggle between the martial-arts schools, Shaolin monks, and the Evil Sect (which doesn't seem that evil).

"Lord of WuTang" is really kind of confusing -- revenge vendettas spring out of nowhere, battles start without warning, and the plot is so fast-moving that the whole thing seems to be about a day and a half's worth of action -- as soon as one subplot ends, another instantly starts. And yet, somehow despite all this craziness, it's still pretty entertaining.

Perhaps that's because this isn't intended to be a serious revenge epic. It has lots of verbal and physical comedy ("Get my head off of my a**!") and bizarre characters who are thrown in just to be bizarre, like the Red Cross sex freaks and the old hermit who rolls around inside a boulder.

But they don't neglect the kung-fu aspect, with lots of energy blasting, flying shields, and a great fast-paced duel between Li and a roaring Shaolin monk. It strikes a pretty good balance between the fantastical violence (flying killer shields?) and the realistic stuff that looks pretty bloody.

It's hard to keep the dozens of characters straight, especially since some of the girls are almost identical in dress and body language. But Li is appealing as the naive, peace-loving guy, and Yau is just as fun as his sprightly, spunky love interest. She even gets the kung-fu equivalent of a catfight.

"Lord of Wutang" is almost too fast paced to follow, but it still has a bizarre charm. Definitely worth watching.... so long as you don't leave the room.

  5. Many people do not know that this is only part of a 60 volume serial.
The main reason most people are confused about what is happening is a lack of understanding about internal energy or "Chi". This is the magic of the Orient. Many various legends of certain types of "secret" Kung Fu have existed for centuries in China and the chinese audinces are not so confused by the plot line.
If you suspend you dis-belief this is a fantastic, fuuny, deadly serious, bloody tale of sweat revenge; betrayal and ultimate victory for the underdog. I can't find a better movie that works on all these levels.
The english sub-titles are washed out by the background in some frames but can be gleaned if the movie is watched enough which you are sure to do.

  1. I heard of this movie through the 'coming attractions' list on the end of the new Director's Cut DVD of 'Drive' by Steve Wang (Region 2 only, sorry!). Get ready - a Hong Kong movie that has good plot, great characters and depth. It's the perfect antidote to overblown, over-hyped American/British films that take 3 hours and $3million to make a lot of noise about nothing. Chiu Man Chuk (his Cantonese name) is Officer Dong, transferred to the (fictional) Russian state of Lavernia for disobeying orders while rescuing hostages. He meets up with his best mate Andrew who takes life a little less seriously than he does. Dong is there five minutes and manages to arrest the leading criminal in the subway, featuring the first of many amazing fight sequences between the two. What follows is a passionate tale of second chances, betrayal, heroes and friendship. A quietly amazing film. The Honk Kong Legends Region 2 DVD has some real goodies too - an interview with Chiu Man Chuk, his Wu Shu demonstration, photo galleries, a music promo for the release, more coming attractions from the distribution company, biographies and audio options. A few scenes are grainy but it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the film, and the sound is obviously great. It only comes in 2CH not 5.1 Dolby sound, but hey, it still beats a VHS! WATCH THIS IN CANTONESE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES! If you choose the dubbed version Officer Dong is American and it ruins the whole style of the film. Don't miss Chiu Man Chuk's performance - be ready to put him on your list of top ten actors. What about the fact he doesn't speak English? Well I don't speak Cantonese but there are less people in the English-speaking world than there are in the Chinese dialects region! Rent it, buy it, just get hold of it! At 87 minutes its well worth the investment!

  2. Andrew Lin has some great kung-fu sequences, but once he picks up a gun he's a complete moron. Same applies to rest of the movie, some great scenes ruined by characters doing stupid things. Mainland China propaganda was sickening. Don't let this be the first foray into HK action films.

  3. So first of all they make up a country and try to put all of this political drama into it. Yeah, that is going to fly. It is also just great that the main white Russian character who is supposed to be doing dirty government dealings is obviously not even an actor and seems to have gotten a part in the movie because he probably financed it or something. There is a great fight at the start between Vincent Zhao and the main villain. Don't ecpect too much goodness in the fights though. I thought I was going to be able to get past the horribleness of this movie and watch some great fights but it just turns into people flying around and the director putting in about 5 cuts per doesn't help. There is a great fight where the villain takes out everybody in the jail's shower but that is seriously about it. Xin Xin Xiong has a nice cameo at the beginning but it was way too short and was one of the 4 scenes that I actually liked. Shu Qi is about as underused as possible and just adds to the horribleness of this movie. The final fight scene almost got turned off by me but I struggled through it and can honestly say that this is one of the worst movies you will ever see. I promise.

Unlike Sony Pictures past releases like Jet Li's Contract Killer and Meltdown, Another Meltdown(Blacksheep Affair) actually has a Chinese language track and seems to be uncut. Way to go, thanks for waiting until releasing a bad movie to actually give movie fans a good version.

  1. This one has the same normal kid as in the first one but now with a supernatural twist about two magic rings that each give the wearer special fighting powers. When our hero gets the first ring baddies came after him from everywhere. There are some corny lines like when at the end he is fighting the god like man with both rings and show how he can shoot bolts of lightning that make cars explode and his freinds tell everyone around them not to use their guns because the powerless little boy needs the pride of killing a deity all by himself, there by putting hostages at risk. Leave it to the power ranger fans unless you're desperate for fight scenes

  2. If you like the genre of 80's martial arts films like I do, this one isn't too bad.

3 comments about ADCC: Best of ADCC Vol. #1.
  1. This first side of this DVD contains several fights from the earlier Abu Dhabi events. Royler vs. Joao Roque is an excellent match. Jean Jaques Machado vs. Caol Uno is also really fun to watch. Ricardo Arona vs. Kareem Barkaleev is crazy. Other matches aren't quite as interesting, but still pretty good.

The other side of the DVD contains about 40 minutes of 'behind the scenes' footage from the 2003 Abu Dhabi event (in Brazil). It's kind of cool to watch, but could be edited and presented much better.

If you have the other two Best of ADCC DVDs, you'll know what to expect from this one. If not, get the other two first ...

  2. I was surprised at how boring much of the dvd turned out to be. Also, the behind the scenes material was amateurish.

Jean Jac Machado looked great. That's one thing I can say for the dvd. I am a big fan of Renzo Gracie but I didn't see much here. I really can't recommend this dvd.

  3. I bought this for the Royler vs. Joao Roque match and, to that extent, I was not disappointed. Everything else left me feeling a bit cheated; specifically, as was previously mentioned, the quality of the production.

  1. While never mentioned by anyone as a great martial arts movie, (even Sammo who wrote and directed it), this is definately one of Hong Kongs best. Great fight scenes (not surprising, with Sammo in charge), heroic good guys, viscious bad guys, the equisite Rosamund Kwan as the once and future uber-babe, and the mountain like presence of Ti Lung, one of Hong Kong's dramatic greats. While the plot is a basic formula, and the characters are a little one dimentional, it still acts as a reminder of what heroism is all about. Sammo shows his old school roots with this film, along with his usual ability to put together, without exception, the best fight scenes ever put on film. With a talented cast that breathes life into the characters and a story that draws the viewer in, this film is quintisential Hong Kong Cinema. Hey, it even made my girlfriend cry, and she HATES martial arts movies! 'nuff said.

  2. Man, I honestly thought this is the greatest movie I've ever seen. Some may disagree, those who do, you guys can just shut your mouth! Cause this is my favortie movie in the whole wide world. I loved all the fights scenes, the martial arts is awesome. And of course, for the ladies, there is always a love story intertwined in the plot. I could lie and say that everybody would love this movie, kids and adults, people of all ages, but i'm not goin' to. I love this movie cause I'm a huge martial arts fan, and you have to be too, to be able to appreciate this film. Well, I hope you get this movie and enjoy it as much as I did, do, and will.

  3. A masterpeice from Sammo Hung. Awesome fight scenes! Martial Arts master(who is that guy?) comes out of hiding to team up with Ti Lung and fight against corruption within the Chinese government. Both are betrayed and Ti Lung is captured. What follows is truely edge of your seat action that only Yuen Wu Ping, Jackie Chan, John Woo or Tsui Hark can match.

  4. After reading some reviews I was curious enough to buy it. I'm glad I did! Sure the story isn't the best nor the easiest to follow but I'm all about the fighting scenes and boy there is plenty in this movie! The action is right up there with Iron Monkey, Fists of Legend, Twin Warriors (aka The Tai Chi Master) The fight scenes have good speed and I laughed when the voice of the Japanese woman (At the kung-fu tournament) is actually a mans voice in the movie. Ha! Too funny! Other than that it is a very dark movie but I like that when it comes to fighting/martial arts movies. Not too much of that cheesy haha humor in this flick. I highly recommend this film if you like good swordplay action!

  5. I am a huge fan of martial arts movies and I have a large collection of dvd's dedicated to the genre so I consider myself some what of an expert on the subject. I have been watching kung fu movies for over 20 years and believe me when I say that I have yet to see a martial-arts movie match Blade Of Fury let alone surpass it.

This is Sammo Hung's masterpiece without a dout and the film's excellence is only matched by the absurdity of its obscurity despite its greatness, which I find baffling.

It is a very dark and violent movie about a passionately patriotic kung-fu master Wang Wu, who loses hope over the political state of China and unsuccessfully tries to commit suicide. He then retreats to a humble life working as a sword-smith when he meets a famous kung-fu master (Ti Lung), who re-ignites his desire to change China for the better. As the story goes, they become fast friends with the same political ideology and try their best to convey their revolutionary ideas to all who will listen, by writing a manuscript. This puts both men in direct confrontation with Yuan Shih-kai, a general who is very powerful in martial arts and a conservative in Chinese polotics. This starts a chain of events that leads Wang Wu on a deadly path where he will have to fight not only for his ideals but his very life.

This movie has without a doubt one of the most engaging, complex plots I have ever seen in a kung fu movie. What makes this movie unique is that there isn't a stereotypical "bad guy". Nobody is evil in this movie, its just two "good guys" who believe in opposing ideals. One seeks change for the good of the country while the other seeks stability for the sake of human lives.

The acting is also top notch all around, highlighted by Ti-Lung's exceptional portrayal of a compassionate revolutionary and Rosamund Kwan's mesmerizing performance, befitting of an empress. Even Sammo Hung's cameo as a master swordsman guarding a prisoner is right on the money.

Believe it or not, as superb as the plot and acting are, the fight scenes are even more so. Sammo Hung's choreography alone is worth the price of admission and is on the same level as Yuen Woo-ping and Ching-Siu Tung. What seperates this movie's fight scenes from others are not just the variety of fighting styles but the variety of weapons as well. All forms of weapons like darts, bow and arrows, guns, short swords, long swords, samurai swords, spears and even rope used as a yo-yo-ing projectile are on display. The variety in fighting styles are also impressive, for example there is an amazing hand to hand combat scene that takes place on parasols, fantastic swordplay in a water-torture prison, the "villain" Yuan Shih-kai taking out 20+ rebels(I lost count) using only his cape, Wang Wu using his short-sword against Ngo Pai's wonder hand, the list goes on and on. The great thing about the fights are that they occur for a good reason and serve to drive the story forward. The final showdown between Wang Wu's short sword and Yuan Shih-kai's long sword is a bloodbath for the ages.

Never before has a martial arts movie been proficient in all areas- story, plot, character development, acting and fight choreography are all exemplary and a testament that these things can be done in an action movie, and the reason why Blade of Fury has no equal.

  1. One of the best DVD martial arts training sets for Wing Chun Kung Fu that I've come across. For over 16 years I've been training on and off beginning with Shaolin Kung Fu then Wing Chun Kung Fu classes (training in a class setting is by far the best way). For me, this 5 DVD collection is very close to the feel of training in a real class situation. The production value is as simple as you can get and offers easy to understand instruction and applications of the Wing Chun forms and weapons. Having formerly trained under a Wing Chun instructor, I could immediately react to the benefits of this very valuable alternative training tool and I responded favorably to the instructor on the DVDs, Sifu Todd Shawn Tei. Sifu Todd offers great commentary and explanations of the techniques as well as demonstrates their applications with the use of his students. I highly recommend getting the whole set, since each DVD breaks down the instruction: The 3 forms are covered separately on their own DVD vol.1-3, vol. 4 focuses on the 116 Wooden Dummy techniques and weapons forms (nunchakus, butterfly broad swords, staff, and more), and vol. 5 focuses on street fighting techniques. Great overall DVD collection to learn Wing Chun Kung Fu.

  1. this movie was ok. what irritated me was the editing... it was kinda bad. it was confusing the fighting scenes.. but if u like gary daniels... buy this flic

  2. Wait, one more stupid line from the movie. "Ken were cops, we don't do this".

First off if you do not like martial arts movies then this will not be worth your time. If you love Jean Claude Van Damme and all the great b-action movies like 'No Retreat, No Surrender' then you will absolutely love this flick and it will become an instant classic for you. It is actually from the same film company that discovered Jean Claude and did all the 'No Retreat, No Surrender' movies. The owner of the Seasonal Film Company(Ng See-Yuen)actually discovered old school stars like Jackie Chan and Hwang Jang Lee and produced their first successful movies. So when I saw Tony Leung Siu Hung and Ng's name on the back of the box, I had to have it. VERY rarely are American martial arts movies good. Sometimes they end up being a great movie but the fight scenes will be limited and only average. 'Bloodmoon' is the exact reverse. It has spectacular fight scenes, it's badly directed, and it's filled with enough cheese to at least laugh at the stupidness of it sometimes. There is even that part where they go to a strip bar and we get to see surgically enhanced women.

The movie stars out by ripping off 'Beverly Hills Cop' with an Eddie Murphy clone playing the cop. The only thing that makes this character different from Eddie Murphy is that he loves kung fu. This is a down point of the movie since he is certainly not the worst actor but the script could not get any worse. The really good thing though is that he can seriously fight. I thought it was a stunt double at first glance since his first fight is in the dark, but even in the light this guy was doing some amazingly tough choreographed fight scenes. One is a 3 on 1 fight with the killer. If they did double for him at all they fooled me. Then there is a woman fighter who is very good and you will for sure notice the stunt doubling for her. You have to watch for when Rob Van Damme(a wrestler) gets thrown through a window, they show a close up of his double for about 5 seconds. Personally, it was my favorite part of the movie. So Gary Daniels joins this unfunny Eddie Murphy type of cop to find a killer. This guy goes around killing a bunch of tough people. Luckily he doesn't just kill quickly but challenges them and we get these amazing fights scenes. The first fight was awesome but when he stuck his fingers into the guys chest to kill him, I thought for sure this movie would end up being a waste of time. Then you have that one part where the killer posts his murders on the internet and they try to track him down. Of course now the computer geek is saying "OK, he's in Bejing, wait, he's in Berlin, no, he's in Moscow". This may sound like a bad movie and it is but the amount of fights and the quality of them is what makes it good. All great fights and most of them are extended going 5 minutes or so. For a die-hard martial arts movie fan like me it just does not get better than this. The fights are brutal and I have to say that they are some of the best I have seen in a while. There is unfortunately a bit of wirework with the wires clearly seen but that is to be expected from a movie of this type of budget.

Now like all great martial arts movies every actor needs to be somebody who actually looks good fighting on screen and the villian needs to standout as the baddest mother on the block. Darren Shahlavi gets the job done nicely and his steel tipped boots are a nice touch. There is actually metal on the whole bottom of his boots and up the whole heel. He really gets to show off his sklls and how many great kicks he has.

Now I will say it once more so people don't get confused by my 4 star rating. This movie is a cheesy cop drama with a few good comic moments and it has some truly great fight scenes. So it is not for everyone and I warn you all that this movie has one of the stupidest endings of all time. "Ha ha ha ha, this is the endgame Ken". No not the ending sequence fights and Gary Daniel's race to save his family, that was bad, but the very last moment of the movie. It is the finest of cheese that you will ever find in a film.

I have to once again mention how great the fighting was and how great of a job that director/action director Tony Leung Siu Hung did. His choreography and editing of the fights is about as good as it gets. Now I just have to see the other American martial arts movie he directed which is called 'Superfights' and my life will be complete. Seriously, the movie is called Superfights.

I will warn you right now that this DVD from the Weinstein Company is sub-standard. Big surprise huh? Well of course it is not a surprise. These are the same people that edited down every Jet Li and Jackie Chan movie and not only cut it up but never offered their DVD's in the original Asian language. So luckily this is actually an American movie and we don't have to bother with the bad dubbing, just the bad acting. The DVD is presented in full screen and the picture quality is average. The first 2 fights were a bit blurry but it seems to clear up from there. Good sound quality.

There are no special features except filmographies.

One more bad line-"Don't worry honey, daddy's gonna save us".

Just one more line I promise. It does not have anything to do with the movie but you'd think that it would-"Did you notice there's blood on the moon tonight?" the masked killer asks in a dark voice as he has his leg extended in the air showing off his devastating martial arts skills.

  3. blood moon is a martail arts film pact with all kinds of action
lots of martail arts moves most of the chacters are national champions
in different compiations in wwe/ecw superstar rob van dam makes an
aperances as a tough man champion named dutch.

  4. From the same guys that brought you the super-cheesefest "Superfights" comes another low-budget, high cheese quality martial arts action flick - Bloodmoon. This time around, Gary Daniels is onboard and so are some incredible fight scenes that make this a pleasant improvement.

As Bloodmoon begins, so does the cheese. We are introudeced to a goofy villain in a goofy costume, only known as "The Killer". Also introuced, is a ridiculously looking red moon, supposed to be "The Bloodmoon" which The Killer fancies with dialouge "Did you notice there is blood on the moon tonight?" Supposedly it occurs when he is about to destroy one of his victims. Ok, so the cheese is plenty. If you can deal with it, we are also introduced to a smashing good fight at the beginning, only one of very many throughout this film. A fight, like all rest, that goes on for minutes and can compare with the final showdowns in many movies. Each fight throughout the movie gets better and longer. The choreography is amazing, again from the same guy that choreographed Superfights, Tony Leung.

In addition to the great and improving fights, 1/2 way through the film, the story begins to take itself seriously, and finally gets quite interesting till the end. Unfortunately, the end is honestly one of the stupidest finales I have ever seen, and its not the fight I am referring to. The final fight, is around 8 minutes in lenght. For comparison, that is about the length of the roof-top fight in Jackie Chan's "Who Am I?", arguably one of the best fight scenes ever. Though not as entertaining as that scene, this is one of the better fights I have seen. Obviously, the duel is between Gary Daniels and Darren Shahlavi (The Killer). I am not familiar with Darren Shahlavi, but he presents himself in Bloodmoon with excellent martial arts skills as if he had been doing this for quite some time. Gary Daniels, on the other hand, has earned a good repuation with many action films such as Ring of Fire, City Hunter, Rage, Riot, Firepower, and White Tiger to name a few. A Gary Daniels fan will definetly want to add this to their collection.

I honestly have to give a 3-1/2 stars for this film overall. Its the action that holds the spotlight here. The low production of the rest of the film, makes it suffer, but not nearly as bad as Superfights. The actors and story give a lot more effort this time around. Cheese is the name of the game here. Expect it to come, or you will be too distracted to enjoy the wonderful choreography all around it.

  5. I first saw this film at a very young age and could never find it in my later years. I finaly found it watched it and it still held my attention. the bad guy has some awsome kicks in this 1980's film. He is a bit of a creep but a great fighter. I liked this because the star, gary daniels took some serious beating along with his co star, that is something you dont normally see in any kind of movie. This is a collectors item

  1. In "The Cane: The Weapons Art of a Gentleman" well-known martial artist Emil Farkas teaches you self-defense techniques using the common cane or walking-stick. Mr. Farkas demonstrates basic strikes and blocks that anyone can master with a little bit or practice.

For anyone who normally carries a cane, learning the basic techniques taught in this DVD will certainly improve your ability to protect yourself when out on the street. The techniques taught are simple and basic, so if you are already a trained martial artist, familiar with stick fighting, you will probably find nothing new in this DVD. But... for the gentleman who wants to add a few techniques to his self-defense skills this DVD is OK.

I did find that there was some minor distortion in the audio in a couple places on the DVD. This may be simple an error in my specific DVD, or a problem with the audio track in the master recording. The other distraction I found in the audio of the DVD was that Mr. Farkas attempted to vocalize a hiss or whistling sound as he demonstrated the cane techniques. Making these weird noises does nothing to improve one's ability to master the cane techniques - and having them incorporated into the DVD distracted somewhat from what would otherwise be a really good production.

    Run time about 55 minutes.

  2. This is a much stronger DVD than the Oster cane DVD, but is still lacking. To his credit, Farkas sticks with L- or T-topped canes rather than the crooked versions--they're more weapon-like, but they're also better defensive tools. He also avoids pain compliance holds and sensibly focuses on striking.

Unfortunately after he points out the reach advantage of the cane, he advises the viewer to strike 6" from the tip. This negates 15% of reach with a 3' cane, decreases impact force, and greatly increases risk of breaking the cane/stick--I've seen it done in training at far less than full power.

The one-handed techniques he teaches will work for those with good shoulder flexibility, but most of those actually needing a cane probably won't be able to use them. The two-handed "senior" techniques are a better bet for most users. Hell, if you need a cane, you probably need both hands to use it for striking. If you don't, you still have the extra power of the second hand.

Sound was substandard with occasional bursts of static. Worse, someone added a "whoosh" sound in postproduction when Farkas swings the cane. Very annoying, and a childish thing to add to a serious instructional product. It would have been perfect for the Oster DVD, though, since that one was already mired in Fantasyland from the get-go.
