3 comments about The Super Ninja.
- This movie was pretty good and had some pretty decent action scenes. I gave it a 4 because the movie was kind of brainless action movie, but it still had strong character. I reccomend it for anyone that just wants to leave their brain off and watch a movie for an andrenelin rush.
- Director Chang Cheh made over a hundred films many of which are hailed, by those who know this stuff, as kung fu classics. Famed action director John Woo was quoted as naming him as a major influence and when you see this classic it's easy to see why; When the action starts, it's breathless, over the top and doesn't stop.
A SPOILER FREE SYNOPSIS: Some nasty ninja have killed our hero's martial arts teacher. With the aide of a new teacher and some new fighting buddies our hero takes on the "Five Element Ninjas" (Gold, Fire, Water, Wood & Land). Bottom Line: It's exciting, it's violent and if you like kung fu it's impossible to only watch this movie once. For more Chang Cheh brilliance try 'The Kid with the Golden Arms' or '5 Deadly Venoms'.
- So Alexander Lo Rei plays an American cop with his normal on screen partner, Eugene Thomas. The Five Element Ninja has set him up and now he has to become the super ninja. Having tons of training before as a ninja and with the great Jack Long as his master, he is more than ready to take on all comers.
This movie was so freaking weird, but HIGHLY enjoyable. Name me the last time you you saw a guy breakout of the poice station in a great ninja flick. Alexander plows through a ton of cops and faces plenty of ninjas in this classic. Directed by the same guy who did 'Ninja Hunter', Wu Kuo Jen, we get all the areas of 80's exploitation. The ninja could not have been much better. Jack Long is sadly in his weakest role I have seen but it is still nice to see him none the less. One thing in this movie surprised me beyond belief. Doris Lung, a fighting beauty from 'Master of the Flying Guillotine' and 'Along Comes A Tiger' stars as Lo Rei's boyfriend. Her dad ends up becoming the main point of the plot but the plot is not what we are worried about, right? Doris Lung has a 5 minute sex scene that actually is a notch over soft core. I had always dreamed of seeing my favorite female stars like Li-Li-Li and Brigitte Lin in a scene like this but now I am not so sure. You will get all of Doris that you wanted and maybe a bit more but it really just seemed wrong to me. Also this is her last listed credit. It is very interesting that in Hong Kong cinema, an actress will NEVER expose herself except maybe a little but of the booty. Let's just say that if she worked again after a movie like this, she would have been the first. Alright, now the sex scene actually helps set the tone for the rest of the movie. Pretty grim and real(except the ninjas of course). William Yen is one of the 5 ninjas and gets in a bit of comedy at the end but other than that this movie is all about the desperation and the blood and guts of Lo Rei. And of course the major cheese plays a major factor.
The final fight is basically just a ton of super human flying kicks. Only thing is is that these guys are really doing it. Think of that super kick that Hwang put on Jackie's throat in 'Drunken Master'. Too bad Hwang isn't in this but Lo Rei does pull out possibly the greatest scissor kick ever to appear on screen. Way better than the one he does into the water in 'Shaolin Vs. Lama'. The finale still could have been better but is very fun just like the rest of this movie.
Picture quality is full screened of course and while the print isn't really scratched up at all, it is very faded. Another crappy picture for a good movie. Also the dubbing is really bad. Eugene Thomas has a horrible voice-over just like all of his movies.

5 comments about Revenge of the Kung Fu Master.
- These two DVSs contain the second part of the story of Kung Fu Master, bringing the original 30-episodes TV show from China to a conclusion. The series on DVD (both Kung Fu Master and the Revenge of the Kung Fu Master) has been re-edited to bring coherent storylines and as well as to cut out some lengthy conversation scenes from the original series. I thought the editing wasn't too bad considering how much they had to cut out. They've edited these episodes to flow well and to create a faster-paced movie out of the series. There are plenty of action, great fight scenes, good character development and interesting story line. I've always enjoyed watching Donnie Yen and I though he did really well here. There are several audio tracks, presented in DDigital 5.1 and DTS in Cantonese, an English track in DDigital 5.1 for those who don't like to read subtitles (I think subtitles are better though), and commentary by Bey Logan a kung fu expert/D.Yen's friend. There's a 12 minute "Making Of" feature. All in all, if you are a Kung Fu fan, this would be something you'd want to check out. We are fortunate to experience a Chinese TV Kung Fu saga edited for us.
- Martial arts movies have gone through a number of recyclings, and The Kung-Fu Master and Revenge of the Kung-Fu Master are not overly unique or different than the films of previous generations, but have encapsulated and paid homage to a generation of martial arts filmmakers. The superb cast and abovepar martial arts sequences have come together in a fairly interesting and exciting tale of martial arts involving the Han Ming rebels versus the infamous Manchurian Chings. If this is your first foray into martial arts films, best to start elsewhere, if you have seen martial arts films and crave something different, then the series is well worth watching. Keep in mind, the series is based on Asian Television programming and will have the look and feel of TV, but the production value, acting, and scenes are on par with the best of Asian films. What makes the series so endearing is the overall length and character development of famous martial artists seen in past great kung-fu films such as Wing Chun, Fong Sai Yuk, Master Killer, New Legend of Shaolin, Executioners of Death, and many more films, ie Shaw Brothers. From step one you follow the amazing Donnie Yen as title character Hung Hei-Kwun (Hung Hsing Kwan) from his humble beginnings to the great destruction of Shaolin Temple, along the way you meet a cast of characters, all as interesting and talented as Donnie Yen. Considering the series is edited from an entire season into a few hours on each DVD and still manages to tell a cohesive story is truly amazing. In addition, both DVDs offer dubbed or subtitled soundtracks, I prefer sub but the dubbed version is pretty decent, and the audio commentary from both films merits a 5 star rating automatically. The foremost experts on Asian films and Donnie Yen (1st one only) give insight, humor, and history into the making of the series. This is a true must own for any martial arts film fan and the cost is the same as one mediocre Hollywood action film. Enjoy and keep watching.
Yours truly, John Dae Min
- "Kung Fu Master" and "Revenge of the Kung Fu Master" are nothing short of incredible in my book. Originally action mini-series for Asian television, they effectively combine almost every main stay of the wu xia (heroic swordplay) epic. My recommendation would be to buy both at once.
- Let's see here, the 18 bronzemen, Pai Mei, and Fong Sai Yuk. I could keep going but this thing literally tries to be every kung fu movie ever made all rolled into one. Unfortunately we only see a glimpse of all these elements. The directing job is awesome but the editing job just leaves out too much. We get an ending but not a pleasign one. And they even skipped over the general's death. :(
The kung fu is not as good as the first bu overall this is a better story. Well, you actually have to see the full TV show to see what I am talking about. Full screened and cheap looking, but a GREAT TV show!
The commentary is good even though it is only 1 guy and not 5 altogether like the last one. It's all good though, commentaries are rare for kung fu movies and this one by Bey Logan was VERY enjoyable.
- The costumes reveals this movie's shoestring budget. The fighing scenes are below par compared with other good films starring Donnie. The acting and the plot are not intersting either. This is more like a bad TV show than a movie. Donnie's famous for his kung fu skills. You should see Iron Monkey, Hero and Blade 2 to appreciate how good he is.
It's still worth renting to satisfy your curiosity.

1 comments about Tai Chi Tiger Form.
- This is a beautiful animal form of Tai-chi. Many people do not realize that Tai-chi has animal forms or that each movements of the forms trains you in self defense. This DVD provides complete instructions for this form and the self defense applications. The movements are sinuous, the way any member of the cat family fights. The form emphasizes the sequential rotation of all the joints of the body so that the body writhes and twists as cats do. A type of "tiger chi-gung" is also taught that trains the body to move in this way. It is an incredible program.

5 comments about JEET KUNE DO THE SYSTEM WITHOUT A SYSTEM(r).
- As a female practioner of JKD for the past three years, I have found this set of instructional DVD's to be of the utmost quality. Mr. Hajnasr's detailed, step-by-step instruction has helped me to develop a deeper understanding of the original art of Jeet Kune Do. I highly recommend this set for the excellent quality and extensive knowledge Mr. Hajnasr demonstrates. His passion for the art is contagious.
- Like many people I reviewed the many favorable reviews with a certain skepticism. But upon reviewing the DVD I know why it received such favorable ratings. It a very complete representation of JKD. Which is what I wanted an overview of the many facets of JKD. I'm now taking classes but our instuctor is jumping around on so many different aspects that its tough to learn. I wanted some supplemental instruction and have received it in these DVD's. Dont be afraid to purchase if you want a good overall view of JKD. However if your really interested in becoming good at JKD you should take classes from a qualified instructor also.
- this guy is a master and you will want this dvd because it's easy to follow and his teachings is that clear so i recommend this to all beginners and intermediates.
- First of all I am a former Marine who is currently a student of Shun Hsin Dao (Heart, Mind, and Body's Way). This form of self defense was developed by my instructor who is the founder. He is also a former Marine who served in Vietnam as a sniper and is highy skilled in several types of self-defense including a black belt in Karate and weapons training which implements many Jeet Kune Do principles as well as his own. Yet my instructor's teachings are far more advanced than the instructor's teachings on his video by far. Such as, how to properly take the effectiveness out of a side kick and how certain hits will affect the internal organs in such a way that death is a probability. My personal feelings is that George Hajnasr's video is a marketing tool for his school and it shows he is full of himself. His techniques and teaching are repititous such as that of Karate. Anyone highly skilled will know that the body will not remain in the same position after being struck. Therefore, repititous drills are a waste of time. Bruce Lee planted a seed such as, "The attacker always gives himself away". In George's video he mainly demonstrates his skills as an attack and not as a "Good defense is the best offense" He lacks explanation in his demonstrations except for the Chinese names of certain techniques he managed to memorize so he could show off. There is no explanation about awareness, sensitivity, or forward progression following a block. I personally could counter several of George's attacks with my level of skill that would be quite damaging physically. There are many unwise techniques taught by George that invites very damaging counters. George also used a segment of this video to show off his 7 year old son which was a bunch of BS. This was not instructional at all. Another thing is that his movement in showing techniques is not that of instructor who is trying to teach. Many of his movements were so quick you have to make sure to press slow play to view his technique. Once viewed there are so many flaws that I am confident my training is far more advanced than his students. I personally hated how much time George wasted on his music videos showing techniques or drills in motion throughout the video. Now another thing is his instruction on taking an opponent to the ground is ridiculous. You may be able to pull these techniques on a drunk or someone who is physically dominated by your power but I do not recommend these. If you go to the ground with your opponent you are defenseless to attacks from bystanders who may be in defense of the opponent. Therefore, you should never go to the ground and if so you should do whatever it takes to get back to your feet such as biting, scratching, breaking fingers, gouging eyes, etc.... My instructor has written a book which is available on line which tells of his own background, concepts and training in regard to self defense. I assure you this book is a must which will definitely give anyone studying Jeet Kune Do a different point of view and will definitely take their level of skill to a more advanced level. The name of the book is Natural Martial Arts by Thomas Purtell. I am located in Tucson, AZ and if anyone is interested in contacting my instructor please feel free to contact me at spadude17@yahoo.com and I will forward your email to him.
- Sifu George Hajnasr is a passionate, no-nonsense instructor. He cuts to the heart of JKD and works hard to maintain its foundation in Wing Chun and Bruce Lee's original intentions behind the art.
Overall, this is a great introduction to the art - a great investment for the money. Though Dan Inosanto's videos offer a more consistent and drill-oriented approach, this series is a fraction of the cost and definitely informative, inspiring, and engaging.
Also, as I understand it, you really need to purchase the book as well in order to have all the concepts better developed and explained in detail.

5 comments about Masked Avengers.
- Well, I think that this movie is slow. It's has good fight scenes, and the movie has a great story, but it's slow!!!!!!!!
Overall, this movie is ok, it's one of the worst Shaw Brothers movie I've seen thus far.
- First and foremost,,I think the "Masked Avengers" is average at best,,infact I believe this is one of my worst venom experience,,and believe me I've seen almost all of them. Based on the hype right here on Amazon, I rushed out to get this SO CALLED collector's item,,,,,,,,,OH PLEASE!! If you're really into the venom crew and hardcore weaponery, check out "Kid With The Golden Arm", or "Chinese Super Ninjas",,,now these are true collector's item!!
- OOH YEAH!WEOPONS,MASKED KILLERS,CLAN FEUDS,KUNG FU TO THE DEATH, WHAT ELSE CAN U ASK FOR.U DONT KNOW WHO THE KILLERS R UNTIL THE END.I GOT THIS 13 YRS AGO AND TO ME. ITS CANT BE BEAT.THERES THE REST OF THEM AND THIS IS THE BEST.I THINK ALL VENOM FLICKS R GOOD.BUT THIS IS THE TOP OF THE LIST.CAN ANYONE BE TRUSTED. GO SEE THE SHOW AND FIND OUT.HAPPY KUNG FU SHOPPING/HAHA SEE YA FROM DVD COLLECT.
- The film is in my Venom top 5,but the picture quality is poor.
- This is one of my Favorite Kung Fu movies. Philip Kwok does an awesome Trident Kung Fu Form of which I have won tournaments doing. Because I took parts of his movies and incorporated into my form its great!. But this movie is bloody. Very bloody and not suitable for younger audiences. Its action packed. Good sword play but very little hand to hand combat as written in another post. What I highly suggest is that you get this movie but the REMASTERED Version. Or you will waist you money. The DVD cover is mostly Red. Check it out its one of their Best.

2 comments about Shira: The Vampire Samurai.
- I thought this was pretty fair and good. I still Love Blade (Male Version), Because it has more umph in it. This one has Adrian Zmed, u know the T Bird guy from Grease 2. He's awesome in some ways. But the Shira's boy toy friend is very hot, and he's fine, and he plays a good part but he' as well as the others die at the end. This movie has allot of fighting scenes and brief nudity, it also jumps to the past and back to the present. But above all she looked alittle to old to play this half human and half vampire. And the reason i give it 3 stars is because her bf is cute and it did have allot of action. But above all i Just love Vampire Movies.
- You know me, I can't pass up low budget flix. I may go into the store with the best of intentions and a long list of recommended films but just let me catch a glimpse of that single copy of some horror movie or martial arts film that looks as if even the director's mother wouldn't voluntarily sit through it and I've got to rent it. No kidding, you catch a lot of good movies that way. But unfortunatly you also undergo hours of needless torture. So guess what happened when I rented a movie called SHIRA THE VAMPIRE SAMURAI "Part Vampire, Part Samurai, All Woman"? Yep, I got just what I deserved. Now, in all fairness to me, I really wasn't expecting much from this one, after all one of the male leads was Adrian Zmed, who doesn't exactly have a good track record when it comes to knocking out good movies, and the other male lead lead was my buddy James Lew from FLUFFY BUNNY FEET OF DEATH--er, 18 FINGERS OF DEATH.
I'd gladly tell you every bit of the story and spoil it all for you thus sparing you the agony I endured, but frankly I only remember bits and pieces that filtered through my foggy brain. Shira, as best I could tell, became a half-vampire sometime in the middle ages, I know this because of a fight between ninja-vampires and armoured European knights that takes place at the very beginning when she gets the bite laid on her. Although she only vaguely looks Japanese, Shira still gallantly tries to commit the female version of seppacu, but is prevented by Kenji, an important Japanese fellow (played by Louis Klein) who reminded me of a red version of Darth Helmet from SPACEBALLS. I don't know exactly what went on in many places because the music was very loud and tended to drown out the dialogue at every possible opportunity. That does have its advantages. You may want to insert your own plot devices instead.
Well centuries pass, as they often do, and Shira is just as non-Japanese looking as she ever was but has become a highly trained samurai as well as a half-vamp. Plus now she a few buddies; her main squeeze, Ash (Lawrence Dwonzh) who is very tall and built like a brick s***house, Nathan the cute quasi-Asian compter geek who's actually got some first class fighting skills (Joe Eric Marcado), and Xu the laid-back martial arts master with the level head, and a brand new hair cut after 35 years, James Lew. They all hang around and do good and fight evil and all that kinda stuff. Until one day--
Enter the evil-doers headed by Adrian Zmed with an appropraitely middle European name, Kristof Something. Or should that be Zomezing? Anyhow he runs the big vamp night spot and strip club which gives our heroine a chance to show that she knows what to do with a stripper pole and that she spends a goodly amount of her half-vamp time getting tan lines on the breasts that are all hers as soon as the last credit card payment is made. Now Zmed has been waiting for Shira to show up for a couple of centuries because its been prophecied in this book that even James Lew knows about that one day he (Zmed) will breed with her and create a race of Day-Walkers where upon Marv Wolfman and Stan Lee will sue them all.
Oh, forget it. You don't really want to hear all of this, do you? We'll try and end this as quickly as possible. I'm not quite sure how this happened, but Zmed captures Shira and then has a doctor friend of his who used to work with Mengle harvest a few of Shira's eggs. After which she escapes while the cavalry is, of course coming to rescue her. Suffice it say that after a battle in which Shira's main squeeze gets to rip off his shirt and reveal his muscles and James Lew gets to do more fighting than he's done in his last three films combined, they both die. Oh yeah, yet another relative of Prof. Van Helsing's shows up in time to get slaughtered along with one of his cohorts too. Just outta nowhere.
And we end on a final shot of Shira moping about how sad it is to have to live forever and watch everybody you love blah blah blah. But somebody has to fight the blah blah blah. Even if there is a suffering vampire battling evil, make no mistake about it--this is definitely not ANGEL!
I think you can see what this film's bad points might be, in addition to that horrendous soundtrack I mentioned. Yet it does have one or two things ever so slightly in its favor; Joe Eric Mercado and James Lew. They both come off very well in this film. I would go as far as to say that Mercado could have a future in the biz now that he has some footage to show--although he's so good, both in action and as an actor that its hard to believe that this is his first appearance. I'll have to look him up and see what I can find. And Lew looks good in every way possible--I just wish that his big fight scenes hadn't been filmed wearing a robe so I could have seen more of the body lines.
Its time for final judgment: I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS FILM ONLY FOR THOSE WHO FEEL THAT THEY HAVE COMMITED SOME SORT OF INEXCUSEABLE CRIME FOR WHICH THEY MUST PAY THROUGHOUT ALL ETERNITY AND THEY WANT TO GET STARTED NOW.

5 comments about Taiji Sword, Classical Yang Style (YMAA Tai Chi).
- This beautiful program teaches the entire 'long form' of the Tai Chi sword sequence, and has an excellent "warm-up" section of Qigong breathing techniques and Sword Qigong movements.
This Sword form is an excellent addition to your knowledge, whether you train Tai Chi Chuan, or another martial art, or are a beginner. The fundamental techniques are very comprehensive, and give a complete overview to the art of the Sword.
The DVD has amazing navigation, picture quality, and sound, and you can quickly get anywhere in the 2-hour program with just a couple clicks.
- I recently became interested in learning Tai Chi after perusing a variety of bookstores looking for sword techniques and styles I thought offered a balance between grace, usefulness, and agility. I settled on Tai Chi after looking at the forms and the styles that compose it. As you may or may not know... learning any sword technique from a book is very difficult as it is just as intensive with footwork as it is with the sword itself and sometimes moreso, and after a couple of weeks I was getting nowhere fast.
I ordered this DVD with another one and found the other one would not play in the player... which was more than a little discouraging. I put this one in and was greatly relieved, at first just because it worked, but as I watched it there became some clarity in pace and footwork that was not at all apparent in the book I was using.
The DVD goes through several phases: including a breathing and postures phase, the 54 forms, the 54 forms in chapter format, drills for two people, and a few other things. The heart of tai chi is the 54 forms, and they are clearly performed in one long string, subtitled to show which form is currently being performed. This is very daunting to study or try as a beginner, but I imagine will be extremely useful to someone who has learned most of the forms. The real meat of the DVD to me is the breakdown, which each form is shown once in very slow execution, allowing for study, then shown again at a faster pace on an attacker. I cannot stress the usefulness of this. I havent seen a book that showed application of technique... only the technique themselves... I was (and still am) hugely impressed with this extra step. It gives you not only the correct, clear way to perform a form, but demonstrates its use and footwork very clearly. If you are interested in learning a sword style, I highly recommend this DVD... there are also additional ads for other DVDs this company produces and I definitely will be buying some of those as the clarity of the video and the teaching style is very illumative and well done.
- Normally, I recommend to students to learn the simplified forms first and then graduate to the long forms of a style. However, due to the quality of the DVD offered by Dr. Yang, Jwing Ming of the Long Form of the Classical Yang Style Sword Form, I feel the best choice would be to learn the long form offered on this disc. Although there are many good Taijiquan Sword instructional videos available for the Chen, Wu, Sun and Yang styles, I believe that Dr. Yang, Jwing Ming has done his usual top notch job of providing the student with a wealth of material on his Taijiquan Sword Classical Yang Style DVD.
A good teacher will teach you a form. A better teacher will teach you an application. A higher level would be the teaching of the technique. And as Jou, Tsung Hwa relates in his book, The Tao of Taijiquan, the best thing a teacher can pass on is the "key" to the system. I always get the feeling when I study the tapes, books and DVDs from Dr. Yang that he is truly sharing many secrets of the various styles that he teaches. Fortunately, unless a student is at a level that has the understanding and skill necessary, the information cannot be used or absorbed. I say fortunately because this can prevent injuries through misuse. Yet Dr. Yang provides enough of the basics and the exercises that build a strong foundation, whereby a student can raise themselves to the higher levels where deeper information on the DVDs become more available, understandable and usable.
This 54 posture Yang Sword Form is presented along with the Taiji Sword Form, the Taiji Sword Qigong Set, Taiji Qigong Breathing, Fundamental Sword Techniques and 10 Matching Drills for training with another student.
As Dr. Yang frequently reminds the viewer on his tapes, you must practice and make these moves a natural part of your being. Without practice it is impossible to achieve mastery or even capableness of these techniques, applications and forms.
The Taiji Sword is considered by many to be a very advanced level in Taijiquan Mastery. Learning the sword form greatly enhances and strengthens the Taiji set. Learning the sword form increases one's ability to project chi and is a necessary tool in reaching advanced levels of Taijiquan.
Even if you've purchased Dr. Yang's VHS tape of this form, it is worth the money to obtain the DVD as it contains much information not included on the VHS tape. Additionally, information on DVDs is much easier to access than on a VHS tape.
The DVD is professionally filmed with very easy to follow along teaching, showing the moves at slow speed and at normal speed. Additionally, using students to demonstrate the moves and then having Dr. Yang provide constructive criticism and praise offers more insight into the moves to the interested viewer.
- The organization of the material presented is good. You get basic taiji theory, breathing exercises, the basic moves, the forms, and then the applications. The early material is presented well. The breathing exercises, in particular, are shown clearly, at the pace and for the length of time which you actually perform them.
My difficulties lie with the essence of the material; the basic movements and their implementation in the forms. All are presented at a reasonably slow tempo. But, they are only shown once and without narration, which makes using this DVD an exercise in frustration. Learning where to place the blade, how to move the other hand, and how to place and move the feet means a great deal of work with the DVD remote in order to watch a given move multiple times, so that you can study each aspect of it.
That frustration would have been greatly alleviated had each move been shown 3-4 times, and from different angles. A narration would also have helped, essentially taking the role of an instructor talking you through each movement.
The martial applications are shown similarly. It is not a problem for that section, however, because it simply displays how the movements would have been employed in a martial situation, and the applications section is a very interesting and welcome inclusion to the DVD.
All in all, it is possible to learn from this DVD. It would work better, though, as an adjunct to taking a class, as an at-home refresher of what you learn in the class. I don't know, however, whether that would work if you were to take a class from somebody other than the people who publish this DVD.
- There are many things I like about this DVD - it will serve me for many years. Thanks to YMAA for top quality in all aspects.

1 comments about Girl Boss Revenge.
- I'd probably give this one 3 1/2 stars if I could, but I rounded up to four because I get a big kick out of this type of movie. This is the fourth entry in Toei's "Sukeban" series and the last directed by Norifumi Suzuki. If you dig Suzuki's "Pinky Violence" formula, you'll dig this one.
Amazon's little blurb pretty much give you the basics. Four escaped delinquent girls, led by Kanto Komasa (Miki Sugimoto) try to make their way in Osaka. Quickly getting into the bad graces of the local yakuza, Komasa and her "Gypsies" then butt heads with a school girl gang led by Maya (Reiko Ike) and a yakuza backed girl gang led by Ryoko (Ryoko Ema). Yup, lots of fighting. Various forms of torture (poor Emi Jo- having her blood drained and being thrown off the roof in "Lynch Law Classroom" was cake compared to this. God knows what she endures in "Shoguns Sadism"!?!). Vehicle chase. Stabbing and shooting. Explosions. Gambling. Cussing (kunero, keeksheeo, hey I speak Japanese!). Kidnapping. Rape. Blood is shed. People die. Revenge and more revenge. Tears. And, comedy!
Okay, this is an exploitation film. Lots of stuff happens because the director thinks we will enjoy it. There are plot "skips" (as opposed to holes). It's up to us to fill the gaps with our love of the genre. If you want to see Miki topless and beaten with a stick, you'll just have to believe that the bad guys knew exactly where to find her and that she doesn't lock her doors. No problem. And as for why they are beating her, well, it could happen, in a movie. So what if Billy Wilder is turning in his grave. Hell, maybe he'd enjoy seeing Reiko Ike kicking butt in a mini skirt and blue panties as much as we do? Anyway, this is not real life and you wont learn anything from it.
Thankfully, Norifumi Suzuki's spot of comedy in this film is less shrill than usual and even humorously self-depreciating. Could we live without it? Sure, but like uncle Hank's "pull my thumb" joke every year at Thanksgiving, we put up with it because we love turkey.
Oh yea, it's a nice print. Maybe B+, pretty decent for such an old film. The extras are O.K. There is a 14 minute interview with Norifumi Suzuki that is pretty cool. Nice to hear (that is, read subtitles of) some of his thoughts. A few trailers for other movies- Delinquent Girl Boss: Blossoming Night Dreams, Rica 3 ("Speed! Thrills!" looks great!), two nasty nun movies, and a modern promo spot for this film. Nice photo gallery. No commentary by people telling us how we should enjoy the movie or telling us the history of the old fart actors in yakuza films. No commentary.
Hey Media Blasters! Thanks! I want more!
