  1. I bought this movie for my collection. As for the movie I think it is not what you would call a good view. The extras are the best part of this movie.

If you are a collector of Bruce Lee's movie this would be part of the collection but other then that you mat be disappointed.

  1. Wow...the martial arts in this movie really surprised me considering how raw and brutal some of the scenes were. Great movie with a great story. For those that don't know, this is the second installment of the In The Line of Duty series...I highly suggest checking out In The Line of Duty IV...but RW is awesome in terms of martial arts, you can expect a really brutal michelle yeoh in this one...story centers around michelle yeoh as a police officer along with a japanese police officer and an annoying security guard who prevents a plane from being hijacked by terrorists for the purpose of freeing a convict. They killed all the terrorists along with the convict, but then the convict's 3 best War buddies plot a revenge on the 3 individuals, and the rest of the movie is about pure survival...there are many dramatic parts in the film, but you'll be rooting for michelle all the way...definitely one of her best...

  2. ROYAL WARRIORS is simply one of the best action movies ever made. It features the bone-crunchingly brutal style of Hong Kong choreography that was perfected in the 80's following the renaissance initiated by Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan, and it has rarely looked better than it does in this movie. This is text book action cinema, and Michelle Yeoh is remarkable.

  3. I haven't seen this for over 10 years.
    Surprising storylines, I still remember.
I don't remember about the fight scenes.
I saw this before the days I took Kung Fu lessons.
But I don't remember the muscle lines on her.

    ha ha.

  4. This is one of Michelle's greatest movies! If you like action, drama and comedy at the same time, you will love Royal Warriors. Henry Sanada(a Japanese Agent)also shines in this movie with some great fighting moves. If you are also a Henry Sanada fan, you should really consider owning this movie. Enjoy guys, you will not regret it!

  5. This is a rather amusing piece of fluff from an actress who was only to find herself in films like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or "Wing Chun." The action scenes are nothing special and the story line shouldn't strain anyone's brain cells.

  1. Disappointing, to say the least. A wonderful cast that includes Ti Lung, Alexander Fu Sheng, all 6 Venoms, and a bunch more Shaw Brothers' performers that you aficionados will recognize. Then why is it not very good? The characters are annoying (especially Fu Sheng), the fights are slow (though plentiful, and they do eventually get better), and it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. After it was over, I was like, "huh?" They introduce character after character, and then get into fight after fight, and keeping up with it becomes rather arduous.

It is interesting that most of the Venoms play against type, at least at first. Lu Feng, Wei Pai, and Sun Chien become friends with Ti Lung. Then Philip Kwok, Chiang Sheng, and Lo Meng are all dished some red herring and try to harass the good guys. There is also a group of young men that frequent the pawn shop that Ti Lung owns, who have a big fight at the end. No, our heroes don't fight during the film's climax, these kids do.

The version I have is distributed by Bonzai Media and is beautifully restored and remastered. Yet still no one has touched "Kid With the Golden Arm"! I should probably give this another shot, but it bothers me that I feel that I should. I can't recommend the movie as a whole. However, near the end, there are some particularly good fights. Maybe if you tried turning down the sound and synchronizing music to scenes and dialogue a la "Wizard of Oz/Pink Floyd", that could be worth an extra star. 2 or 3 if it works.

5 comments about Hitman.
  1. In Jet Li's final Hong Kong film before he starred in "Lethal Weapon 4", he plays Fu, a former soldier and martial arts expert living in Hong Kong with four roommates while trying to support his mother. To be sure, he's NOT dirt poor, but he's still can't afford to let money fall out of his pocket and roll into oncoming traffic.

Fu knows there's big money in bounty hunting, and he get's his shot at it when a Japanese buissiness man/crime boss is executed by the legendary "King of Killers", a self-employed assassin who murders only rich bad guys. The dead guy knew he had a lot of foes on both sides of the law, and set up a "revenge fund" of a whoppin' $100 million to strike back from the grave.

The murder victim's grandson, Eiji Tsukumoto, just covets the massive reward, but Fu needs some dough as well, and partners up with an "agent" named Norman Lu (Eric Tsang), to find the King of Killers.

Easily one of the best of Jet Li's later Hong Kong flicks, CONTRACT KILLER (called HITMAN in Hong Kong) provides some of the best non-wire-fu martial arts scenes I've seen, particular the scenes where Jet Li is paired with a chopsocky adversary with rings and shoes that emit flashy lights to confuse his opponents. Now There's something you don't see everyday.

  2. comedy isn't that good . . .

1998 R-rated Hong Kong Martial Arts film (set in Hong Kong, with Japanese criminals; R-rated for violence and some language). Also known as "Sat sau ji wong," "Hitman," and "King of Assassins."

DVD Features: The DVD contains the movie and some special features. The movie can be heard in English (Dolby Digital or Dolby Surround), or Spanish (apparently no Chinese option), and has a "English for the deaf and hard of hearing" subtitle option. The special features are: Director and cast filmographies, film trailer, "Jet Li Bonus Trailers" ("The One," "Meltdown," and "Legend of The Red Dragon"), and a photo gallery.

Credits: The movie stars Jet Li (Fu; "Romeo Must Die," "Once Upon a Time in China"), Gigi Leung (Kiki; "A True Mob Story"), Simon Yam (Kwan; "Casino"), and Eric Tsang (Ngok Lo; "The Accidental Spy"). The director is Tung Wai (also known as Wei Tung; "Fox Hunter"). Written by Chan Heng Ka, Vincent Kok, and Cheng Kam Fa.

Plot: Jet Li is a contract killer (or an ex-soldier willing to kill for money) after an assassin of a Yakuza boss. The boss had set up a reward for the one who catches his killer. A reward of One Hundred Million Dollars ($50 million for catching killer, $50 million for finding the ones who hired the killer).

Review: Like "Romeo Must Die," this film uses rap music as its movie music. Unlike that "Romeo" movie, I've never heard of this Jet Li film, and am confused by it. Due to the lack of Chinese language options, and based on the type of movie music, the movie seems as if it was intended for USA release (or rerelease), but I've never heard of it (though the movie appears to be badly dubbed and I believe that at one point, Jet Li's voice changes (odd they wouldn't have Chinese language option)).

I think that the movie is supposed to be something of a comedy, and there are some funny moments, but the humor seems a little off (especially considering the enormous blood spillage). This movie is not at all like I expected. I expected Li to be, and act, like an assassin. Instead he is mostly a novice (a skilled one, due to be an ex-soldier), and seems at first to be incompetent (maybe "slow"). Despite these comments, the actions scenes are interesting, while the comedy scenes, for the most part, are not (and the evil guys have some neat tricks).

The acting was average, the plot was somewhat interesting, the action scenes were good, but the comedy and music were, mostly, off-putting. Overall, I would give the movie 3.20 stars.

  3. Very entertaining and I am an avid fan of Jet Li so I love all his movies.

  4. This is an odd Jet movie because it is not exactly action packed. I would compare it to Dragonfight where Jet only has 2 fight scenes but they are both pretty good. This movie is actually directed by Steve Tung Wai. Only directing 4 films in his LONG matial arts choreographing and stunt career, he really shows that he can make good movies. I would have liked more action, but it is nice to see a well done film.

Now while this movie is not thrilling whatsoever, it does put in action at the right time. Jet starts out as a guy living with a bunch of hitmen and ends up being recruiting by some guy(Eric Tsang). There is a killer on the loose who is taking out bad guys and a 100 million contract has been put out on him. Seriously, 10 million wouldn't be enough? Anyway, Tung Wai puts together a nice mix of comedy and drama but goes more for the laughs. Simon stars in a really good role as a cop and Kenji Sato is very good as the villian.

There is an unbelievably stupid action sequence with a guy that uses lasers on his fingers and feet to blind Jet while fighting but it leads to a much better fight between the 2 at the end. The finale I thought was great and there is just enough action mixed in the beginning and middle to keep you interested in the somewhat yawner of a story.

The picture quality on the Mei Eh version is pretty good and good subtitles also. After seeing the American releases of Jet's Legend of the Red Dragon and Donnie Yen's Fist of the Red Dragon, I made sure never to watch those releases from Sony Pictures ever again. At least I can now laugh at the reviews concerning the rap music, terrible voice dubbing, Sony cutting at least 10 minutes of footage out...

  5. While Contract Killer was somewhat entertaining, there were still some elements that kept this film from being as strong as many of Jet Li's standards. For one, Li's character "Fu" never really clicked for me. Fu is not a homeless character, but close to it, and suddenly finds himself with the opportunity to collect a $100 million reward for capturing a murderer known as "The King of Killers". Now we know Jet Li has some of the best martial arts around, but when he unleashes in this film (which honestly felt like hardly ever) it just seems to come out of nowhere from the kind of character he plays. His fighting does seem very limited, and well, it is. There is only one noteworthy martial arts fight scene, and that would have to be the ending of the film. Even that scene wasn't too rememberable compared to most Li films. Still, the plot had some interest and Eric Tsang's character as Li's agent kept things rolling, along with a surprise on who the King of Killers turned out to be.

This is what I like to call a very Americanized release of a H.K. film. In addition to the English dubbing (though it wasn't the worst I have seen) the soundtrack is rap heavy at times. Amusingly, there was even a rap song written for the credits titled "Contract Killer". Go figure. If you are into the whole adding hip-hop to Asian cinema, you should enjoy this as some of the beats and rap were decent.

The plot barely held together what was considered a long hour and half watch for me. The fact was that there just wasn't enough action to glue it all together like most Jet Li films, or action films for that matter. I was hoping maybe it was all being saved for the end, but even then the final fight scenes that lasted several minutes didn't do their justice. I enjoyed the 2 main villains in this film, but had hoped for more of them in the fight scenes. The 2nd villain - and English looking fellow - provided some originality to the fights, with a laser flasher attached to his rings and shoes. When flashed in Jet Li's face, it blinded him momentarily, leaving him open to an attack. But once he learned his way around it, the fight was pretty much over.

Contract Killer is an average Jet Li film. It has good moments here and there, but in the end you may be left with the feeling of "That was it?" Afraid so.

  1. The Guide is showing the Poomse from a few views and helps U to understand each move.

Also, it is very easy to move with the guide because of the clean moves that he makes

  2. This DVD is very easy to understand and was very helpful in learning Keumgang for 2nd degree test.

  3. I have used the DVD before for my son learning the Poomse from basic to brown belt it helped him greatly. I would recommend anyone who wants to know the correct version of your Poomse to view this DVD.

  4. The DVD is a great learning aid for anyone wanting to learn these forms. However, I would strongly recommend a book or another graphic form of learning aid to be used in conjunction with this DVD, as the forms are repeated 3 times in total (fast, with explanation and fast from a side view). The exact footwork, chart-type movement of the form etc, are not explicitly shown, so it will be rather difficult learning these forms perfectly using only this DVD without prior knowledge of the forms. But for what the DVD is, it forms a great help in learning these forms. Definately recommended!

  5. This DVD is for advanced (Black belt) TaeKwonDo practitioners. The step by step explanation of the forms gives the serious martial artist the tools needed to move to second Dan and higher. It is a perfect supplement to formal classes and in home practice. This is a winning DVD for all higher level TaeKwonDo students

  1. I think this movie is one of the best the music is great along with the battles. It has all the characters except Master and you only get a quick glimps of Vermillion all in all it is well worth it. The movie is about a Master Swordsman Eiji Shinjo that has been haunted by the memory of his battle with the renegade champion,Gaia- But now, a mysterious warrior is hunting down the champions of the previous tournament and the person hunting them may be Sho Shinjo (Eiji's brother). Who is this powerful, new foe and who is his next target? Eiji and Kayin-his greatest rival and closest friend- struggle to unravel the mystery before they too, join the ranks of the defeated. At last, the ultimate battle between the greatest fighters in the world will be decided. And the price of victory may be to great....

  2. Battle Arena Toshinden is based off the short lived Fighting game that was here in America (and was part of the Playstation opening lineup). In the Anime it is about Eiji searching out his brother SHo. In the Meantime the Organization (Run by Uranus) is trying to gather Data on the Toshinden Warriors in order to create the ultimate killing machine. To battle the ORganization Eiji, Kayin, Sofia, Tracey and Gaia all team up to take the organization down after they attack and put in the hoispital Ellis.

The fight sequences are typcial Anime but still real cool to watch (if you are into Action Anime). It fits right in if you are a Fan of Street Fighter, Tekken, or Fatal Fury. IT will not appeal to everyone because it is more about the fights than plot but than again most bond films are the same way and no one complains. THis is a decent anime that is worth watching at least once (or owning like I do).

  3. This film kicks butt!!!! The only problems is: most of the scenes are just violence, and you know how Duke kicked some major attitude in the game? He pops up on only one scene and says only one line. Chaos SUCKED LIKE CRAZY!!!! He's truly the dumbest character in BAT next to Uranus. Kayin sure was cool. The first time I played the game I thought he was a bad guy, but I was wrong. Eiji, too, brought back memories. Ellis, however, is my favorite character but she didn't join in almost any fight and she almost died just because of poison, and I mean the poison seemed harmless to anyone!

  4. When this movie came on the Action Channel. I never got to see it. I have been waiting for it to come back, but it never did. It wasn't very long until I bought the movie on DVD. I learned that this movie was the very first DVD the Centeral Park Media aka (U.S. Manga Corps) first released. It was really cool when I watched the entire movie, it was just like the video game with all the cool characters. My favorite characters are: Eiji, Sofia, Ellis, Fo, and Duke. The movie also features the voices of Hideo Seaver, Ted Lewis and Lisa Ortiz famous for Yu-Gi-Oh!, Chris Yates, Greg Wolfe, Carter Cathcart famous for Grappler Baki. This is the best anime to see go buy it.

  5. this anima movie is great if you are a fan a anima or the game series.

5 comments about Have Sword, Will Travel.
  1. First off, I've been a huge martial arts movie fan in general, and a Shaw Brothers fan in particular since I was a kid when I used to watch Drive-In Movie on Saturday afternoon. All I can say is God bless Image Entertainment. Getting your hands on decent versions of Shaw Brothers' classics in the past were very frustrating. Celestial Pictures (thanks to Vee King Shaw) made the right move totally restoring these classics. Unfortunately, they were only Region 3 and could only be bought through a HK website. I know Red Sun was doing a great job at restoring and releasing SB flicks (just ask the Morgoth dude), but I could never find them. Now we have Image, yes!
The movie itself is the second film the godfather of HK cinema, Chang Cheh, made with his "first team", which mainly consisted of Ti Lung & David Chiang. It's the usual Chang classic involving brotherhood, intrigue, honor, bloodshed (lots of it), chivalry and redemption. I'm not going to go into the plot because it's already given in the editorial review & product description. Let me just say that it's a period piece, and the choreography is old-school. The choreography isn't bad, but it lacks the finesse of Bruce Lee (who came later), and it lacks the quickness and precision of the Venoms, Jackie Chan, Samo Hung or Jet Li. So what, it's a great film.
Now as for the DVD, crystal clear picture - really shows the glossy SB cinematography, perfect widescreen, original Mandarin language track and remastered subtitles. If you like Chang Cheh, Shaw Brothers and old-school fu (like me) get this. This is definitely the way these films should be seen. That goes for "The Wandering Swordsman", "The Water Margin" & "Legendary Weapons of China". I'm sure the Morgoth dude concurs.

  2. I was so glad to hear that select Shaw Brothers kung-fu films were being released on DVD in the United States...until I got my copy of "Have Sword, Will Travel" and the disc started jittering near the end of the movie (specifically, during the scene in which Ku Feng prepares his gang of bandits to attack Ching Miao's caravan as it passes by the old temple). The sound remained intact, but the picture was jerky and unsteady, and--worst of all--it affected the first two or three minutes of the final fight scene. I sent the DVD back and got another copy, only to find that the same error existed in the same exact spot on the new disc.
This has occurred on three different DVD players. Has anyone else gotten a defective copy of "Have Sword, Will Travel"?

  3. David Chiang stars as a wandering swordsman who is looking for a job. Ti Lung sees him with a gang called the Flying Tigers and assumes that he must be a bandit too. Ti Lung and his girlfriend have to help escort a large shipment of money and he fears that David Chiang is going to rob them. Ti Lung's girlfriend realizes this is not the case, and looks to become friends with Chiang. You can tell she falls for him, and the love part of the story is very well done. She wants Chiang to help escort the money, and Chiang agrees. This of course causes problems between Ti Lung and Chiang. Ku Feng is the leader of the Flying Tigers and is looking to rob the trio and Chen Sing and Wang Chung star as his 2 top fighters.

The fights are all brief, until the heist takes place. There is blood galore and the action is fantastic, and for 1969, you won't find anything better. The action is great, but there is a lot more thought put into the characters and story than most Chang Cheh movies. This is a very well rounded movie, and one of Chang Cheh's best.

    4.5/5

Picture and sound quality are perfect. Subtitles are very well written.

  4. I struggled with the decision to even write this review... the fact that it almost feels sacriligious to rate such a highly respected Shaw Brothers film with 3 stars, not to mention all of the well-written positive reviews for it already make it even harder to explain my viewpoint. For me this was just a good swordplay film, none of the characters are very likeable or memorable (although I thought the henchman known as "The Pestilence" was cool) including our leading man who is the type of character who refuses a piece of silver because of his pride but instead is willing to sell the horse he loves (not that way!) for next to nothing (all while wearing a bow on his forehead)? David Chiang became a huge star for Shaw Bros. pictures after this but I've never really been completely sold on him as a lead, which probably helps explain why I thought the film was just decent. The fighting is far from impressive here and normally deteriorates into semi-organized chaos with Chiang leading the way flailing around with even less style than the extras (if you thought Jimmy Wang Yu couldn't fight...). Chang Cheh still manages to make it a worthwhile time and breaks out the trampoline jumps (that characters often use to enter an exit scenes) and buckets of red paint (err, blood I mean) for the big finale. I think 3 stars fits this movie perfectly as it's not bad but never really leaves much of an impression either (especially compared to his best like The One-Armed Swordsman, Chinese Super Ninjas, and 5 Deadly Venoms). "Have Sword, Will Travel"... great title, okay movie.

  5. I found this movie to be somewhat slow moving at first but then the film progresses into some appealing fight scenes. Overall, I really disliked it because of one character in particular, that person would be Yun Piau-piau played by Li Ching. I found her to be very shallow; she goes from speaking of marriage to Siang (Ti Lung), in one scene and then a few later she is mesmerized by David Chiang's character Yi Lo who she eventually falls in love with rather quickly not because he is kind to her or that she has known him as long as Siang. Instead, she falls in love with Yi Lo because his kung fu or swordsmanship is slightly better than Siang's.

From what I perceived from the movie was that the Yi Lo character was supposed to be this loner and from his dialogue, he was not forthright in divulging his past willingly. Yun Piau-piau did not have any in-depth understanding of him so how could she fall for him over someone she trained with for years and was her famed aunt's apprentice? The only true justice that I found in this motion picture was the death of Yi Lo, not because I disliked the character but for the very reason that Yun Piau-piau received what she deserved.

That is why I prefer other Shaw Brothers films such as "One-Armed Swordsman" and "Return of the One-Armed Swordsman". For in the first film the main character (Fang Gang) had to make a choice between two women. One his master's spoiled daughter, Pei-er (who was the cause of him losing his arm) who would bring Fang Gang wealth and influence or the simple caring country girl (Hsio Man) that nursed him back to health and provided him with the means to develop his one hand sword style. He rightfully chose the latter of the two and overall the both films ended happily, which we hardly ever see currently. Ultimately, these two pictures promoted the honorable course of action, which "Have Sword, Will Travel", failed to accomplish.

5 comments about Revenge of the Kung Fu Master.
  1. These two DVSs contain the second part of the story of Kung Fu Master, bringing the original 30-episodes TV show from China to a conclusion. The series on DVD (both Kung Fu Master and the Revenge of the Kung Fu Master) has been re-edited to bring coherent storylines and as well as to cut out some lengthy conversation scenes from the original series. I thought the editing wasn't too bad considering how much they had to cut out. They've edited these episodes to flow well and to create a faster-paced movie out of the series. There are plenty of action, great fight scenes, good character development and interesting story line. I've always enjoyed watching Donnie Yen and I though he did really well here. There are several audio tracks, presented in DDigital 5.1 and DTS in Cantonese, an English track in DDigital 5.1 for those who don't like to read subtitles (I think subtitles are better though), and commentary by Bey Logan a kung fu expert/D.Yen's friend. There's a 12 minute "Making Of" feature. All in all, if you are a Kung Fu fan, this would be something you'd want to check out. We are fortunate to experience a Chinese TV Kung Fu saga edited for us.

  2. Martial arts movies have gone through a number of recyclings, and The Kung-Fu Master and Revenge of the Kung-Fu Master are not overly unique or different than the films of previous generations, but have encapsulated and paid homage to a generation of martial arts filmmakers. The superb cast and abovepar martial arts sequences have come together in a fairly interesting and exciting tale of martial arts involving the Han Ming rebels versus the infamous Manchurian Chings. If this is your first foray into martial arts films, best to start elsewhere, if you have seen martial arts films and crave something different, then the series is well worth watching. Keep in mind, the series is based on Asian Television programming and will have the look and feel of TV, but the production value, acting, and scenes are on par with the best of Asian films. What makes the series so endearing is the overall length and character development of famous martial artists seen in past great kung-fu films such as Wing Chun, Fong Sai Yuk, Master Killer, New Legend of Shaolin, Executioners of Death, and many more films, ie Shaw Brothers. From step one you follow the amazing Donnie Yen as title character Hung Hei-Kwun (Hung Hsing Kwan) from his humble beginnings to the great destruction of Shaolin Temple, along the way you meet a cast of characters, all as interesting and talented as Donnie Yen. Considering the series is edited from an entire season into a few hours on each DVD and still manages to tell a cohesive story is truly amazing. In addition, both DVDs offer dubbed or subtitled soundtracks, I prefer sub but the dubbed version is pretty decent, and the audio commentary from both films merits a 5 star rating automatically. The foremost experts on Asian films and Donnie Yen (1st one only) give insight, humor, and history into the making of the series. This is a true must own for any martial arts film fan and the cost is the same as one mediocre Hollywood action film. Enjoy and keep watching.
    Yours truly, John Dae Min

  3. "Kung Fu Master" and "Revenge of the Kung Fu Master" are nothing short of incredible in my book. Originally action mini-series for Asian television, they effectively combine almost every main stay of the wu xia (heroic swordplay) epic. My recommendation would be to buy both at once.

  4. Let's see here, the 18 bronzemen, Pai Mei, and Fong Sai Yuk. I could keep going but this thing literally tries to be every kung fu movie ever made all rolled into one. Unfortunately we only see a glimpse of all these elements. The directing job is awesome but the editing job just leaves out too much. We get an ending but not a pleasign one. And they even skipped over the general's death. :(

The kung fu is not as good as the first bu overall this is a better story. Well, you actually have to see the full TV show to see what I am talking about. Full screened and cheap looking, but a GREAT TV show!

The commentary is good even though it is only 1 guy and not 5 altogether like the last one. It's all good though, commentaries are rare for kung fu movies and this one by Bey Logan was VERY enjoyable.

  5. The costumes reveals this movie's shoestring budget. The fighing scenes are below par compared with other good films starring Donnie. The acting and the plot are not intersting either. This is more like a bad TV show than a movie. Donnie's famous for his kung fu skills. You should see Iron Monkey, Hero and Blade 2 to appreciate how good he is.

It's still worth renting to satisfy your curiosity.

5 comments about Nine Deaths of the Ninja.
  1. My first viewing of "9 Deaths of the Ninja" came via a grainy, taped-off-cable Beta tape recorded years ago. The movie itself is a cheesy delight and required viewing for any true lover of bad cinema. This baby is bursting at the seams with deplorable acting (including what is unquestionably the WORST fake accent in film history), gratuitous nudity, wild kung-fu action sequences, and a threadbare plot that's both laughably absurd and impossible to follow. "Serious" martial arts fans who detest this movie need to get a clue: "9 Deaths of the Ninja" is without a doubt the most entertaining ninja film of the 80's.

Needless to say, when I discovered the film on DVD...I was overjoyed. No more endless tracking adjustments on my Beta machine! I promptly purchased the disc and headed home, eager to see a crisp version of one of my favorite obscurities.

Of course, this was all too good to be true. The Rhino reissue is tremendously edited, with ALL of the sleazy nudity removed from the print. This causes the film to be even more confusing and nonsensical than ever, as entire scenes are missing. Even more astounding is that certain scenes containing mild violence are removed, while the more graphic ones remain intact. Additionally, all swearing has been edited out (even though there was precious little to begin with). At one point the word "crap" is censored. Lame.

Even more insulting is the fact that the transfer is extremely muddy, rendering many scenes unwatchable. Truth be told, my 15-year-old Beta tape looks better than this.

As a consumer, I feel cheated. As a rabid "9 Deaths of the Ninja" fan, I feel heartbroken. The only thing saving this DVD from a one-star rating is the fact that, even in this lobotomized form, "9 Deaths of the Ninja" makes for an entertaining experience. It helps if you've never seen the film before and don't know what you're missing.

I'm not sure if the video version is censored, but I would recommend searching your local video store for a rental copy. Fans of trashy B-movies will not be disappointed. Stay away from the DVD, however. Even the low price can't justify this atrocity.

  2. AS much as I want to agree with Mr. Jack Anderon's review of this movie, I can't, cuz I just dont get it! How could anyone who enjoyed Fried Green Tomoatoes like this movie?!? Actually I change my mind because a better question is how couldn't they!?!? This movie is Fantastic!! I do feel jipped though, because of all the Sho Kosugi movies that I know of, this maybe the only one I hadn't seen previously, so my first viewing was of the DVD version, which as I have read in other reviews, is highly cut up. But I feel the other reviewers do judge it a little too harshly, as this movie has some classic scenes of modern cinematography, Including: The Kung-Fu Midget Fight, The Sickly Guy Jumping Through A Table and Dying(?), and the mullet-ridden kung-fu dancing girls of the opening credits. Hopefully if the sales are enough, they will re-release some of the other Sho greats such as: Pray for Death (my Favorite), any of the Revenge or Enter the Ninjas, and.. well.. thats about it that i want, they already released Black Eagle, and thats about all I know of..

  3. The movie is an excellent piece of celluloid, yet this DVD version leaves much to be desired.

  4. I'm an old die hard fan of Sho. This movie must have put him in sum serious bankruptcy. Not even close to Master Lee, but atleast Sho doesn't Chuck up the speed of the camera. I thought the renegade soldiers were the best actors. I treated myself to a very special dinner because I was able to finish the rest of the movie. I still have the DVD, WHY! because it was my first DVD and I thought about it. I've watched it once about a year ago and have forgotten how cheesey it is so, I think I'll watch it again to see what the cheesey plot was about, you know what...if they didn't waste their time making cheesey movies that only ptupid seople would buy they could give all this wasted money to the homeless.

  5. This movie is not only the worst ninja movie and Sho Kosugi movie ever made but it could possibly be the worst movie ever made in the history of cinema. We are talking Ed Wood territory here and beyond. This movie is amazing in its total badness. How these movies ever get made is beyond me.
