5 comments about American Ninja 5.
  1. The fifth part of this saga may not be the best one (the carisma of Michael Dudikoff was unique) but in my opinion, it's definately worth a look if you are a martial arts fan. To start off with, Michael Dudikoff was not a martial artist. David Bradley is, so the fighting sequences and coreography are a lot better than the first two movies. On the other hand, I have to agree with the other reviewers as it being a cheesey movie with a story that just wastes the cliché and certainly aimed at kids. In a nutshell, the perfect movie to watch on a Saturday after lunch. Very inoffensive but with good martial arts moves and in my opinion, except American Ninja 3, 4 and 5 are two very good martial arts films with an actor who is not so bad in front of the cameras.

  2. Too right, American Ninja 5 is clearly aimed at kids, with scarce violence, hiperactive martial moves and "mystical" ninjas flying around. Special effects are terrible, martial arts coreography is quite good (for a person who enjoys martial arts) and acting is very B, even Z, I'd say. Not a bad movie if you're 12 years old or really into martial arts. David Bradley is not that bad acting, I've seen worse martial arts actors, and I wreckon the kid who played Hiro sucked a little more. Ninjitsu aspect of the movie just goes to far fetched: ninjas of all colours, bad special effects, an invincible David Bradley, who finds all weapons effective and little-realistic blows. Lacks the magic of the first movies but still good for kick and punch fans.

  3. I will state right off the bat that I have always been a fan of the American Ninja series. Yes I know they aren't art but I enjoy the cheesball action and performances. After viewing American Ninja 4, which was rather entertaining in its own B-grade way, I was looking forward to viewing American Ninja 5.

The hookey cover art through me for a loop at first. It's just a lame picture of the characters in the film in stupid poses and mist added in to make it look "mystic". I was hoping the movie would be more entertaining than the cover art led on. Sadly it wasn't.

Here we get the "PG-13/Karate Kid wanna-be" version of American Ninja. David Bradley (American Ninja 3 & 4) returns but this time he plays a different character. He plays Joe Castle and not Sean Davidson from American Ninja 3 & 4. I found that to be a little strange, but oh well. One of his friends (the guy from the Karate Kid series no less) drops off his grandson (named Hiro) for Bradley to look after. Bradley reluntantly agrees and even takes the kid on a date he has that night. His date gets kidnapped by, take a wild guess, a bunch of ninja and he and the annoying Hiro kid go off to South America to rescue her. This is where the story rips-off American Ninja 2. The Ninja are using Bradley's 'girlfriend' (even though he only new her for a day) as blackmail so her father will create a deadly gas. Snore, been there, done that, and better.

Another bummer is that now the great fight sequences are gone. The fights from the previous Ninja enstallments are more tamed down, kid friendly battle scenes with Hiro making stupid comments every now and then. It's as if the filmmakers were targeting fans of the Karate Kid series instead of fans the violent R-Rated American Ninja franchise. Mistake.

To top it off, the music is some of the worst I have ever heard and belongs more to a made for cable Disney movie than a martial arts film.

If you can't tell, this is the Disney version of an American Ninja film. Hell I thought any minute I would see Herbie the Love Bug driving down the street to great our heros. Only buy this DVD if your a completest. Otherwise your better off buying American Samurai, which would have been a far better American Ninja sequel than this tame junk.

  4. When I heard of American Ninja 5 for the first time a few years ago, I thought to myself, I loved the first 4, I got to find this one. Well it's a good thing I didn't since I saw it one late night on Spike TV. Apparently it's a kiddie martial arts movie much more similar to 3 Ninjas than American Ninja. What made the people who made this movie decide to deceive people into thinking that this kid friendly ninja movie is a sequel to the rated R action of American Ninja 1-4? I suppose they wanted to capatalize on the success on 3 Ninjas and slap on the title of American Ninja at the same time actually thinking they would make more money or something.

It's not rated R, and David Bradley doesn't even play Sean Davidson this time. Maybe Michael Dudikoff wasn't available this time again like in part 3 and they thought, everyone wants to see a kid friendly movie instead of the 2 American ninjas teaming up again. What a joke. Instead they team up Bradley as a new character with a 10 year old who, although good at martial arts, but c'mon, he's 10. And if I remember correctly, there was actually ninja on rollerskates in this movie. Oh yeah, and the leader ninja actually wears a cape. Ninja don't wear capes. He looked more like an Asian Dr. Strange then a ninja.

I had heard the original title for this was actually American Dragons. It even had that title when it was on Spike TV. It must have done so bad that before they shipped it to stores they probably changed the title to grab fans of the American Ninja films. Luckily, I was not sucked in, I didn't buy this dvd, I wouldn't even buy it for a dollar. I might take it for free just to sell it to someone I hate. Actually, I wouldn't subject anybody to see this and would use it as a coaster instead.

I wish I could give this 0 stars because it makes me so upset. Please, I do recommend the first 4 American Ninjas which I have on dvd, but don't get this. Just look at the ridiculous cover and know it's terrible. There's a reason I only mention American Ninja 1-4 to anybody and never mention this. Because this is not a sequel! This has nothing to do with the first 4 films! Remember that! Actually don't! Pretend this doesn't exist like I do.

  5. Not the best martial arts movie ever made, but I didn't want the best martial arts movie ever made. I wanted vast amounts of entertaining cheese. American Ninja 5 delivered! Don't even try to take it seriously.

5 comments about Forced Vengeance.
  1. Chuck Norris stars as security chief/debt collector for the Lucky Dragon casino in Hong Kong. He is considered a son to the casino's owner and is certainly a stand-up guy. When the casino owner decides not to sell his casino to an evil tycoon, they kill him, his son, and then go looking for his daughter. Norris saves the daughter (she stands to inherit the casino) and they hide out at his girlfriend's place. Goons relentlessly come after him and they kidnap the daughter. Norris of course has to save her with his superior cowboy karate skills.

This is well directed and has great music from Willam Goldstein. Norris gives one of his best performances. He is not good at delivering lines effectively, but they just seem to give him the right lines in this movie. All of this helps out quite a bit since the plot is very thin. The action is good, though nothing spectacular. Luckily, there is plenty of action and I have never seen Norris look this cool. Highly recommended for fans of Chuck Norris.

    3/5

Picture quality on the Fox DVD is good, but grainy at times.

  2. The action is pretty good and the story moves along nicely (except the five years it seems to take to go from the docks to his boat when he first returns) but the acting done by some of the actors was a bit stiff. The two cops for example were rather one dimensional, and don't get me started on the big boy working for Osiris. Worth the money but not nearly as good as say Code of Silence or An Eye For An Eye. And definitely nowhere near Hero and The Terror.

  3. This was one of my favorite movies growing up. It's not nearly as good as I remember, but I still like it, and it's still my favorite of Chuck's. Only "Lone Wolf McQuade", and "An Eye For An Eye" come close.

The plot has Norris as a bouncer in a Hong Kong casino where his father-and-son bosses are an adopted family for him. When the elder boss refuses to sell out his place to a proliferating casino chain, both he and his son are killed. The sole heir to their fortune is the partying daughter that Norris must now protect from the greedy syndicate.

The story isn't particularly good, but it's quite adequate in linking lots of fight scenes together without sacrificing too much logic. The pacing is what really makes this movie work. Director James Fargo keeps the story moving with claustrophobic camerawork of back-alleys, boats, rooms at the brothel, and other places where bad guys could (and often do) attack. Not to mention some beautiful shots of Hong Kong itself. The fights aren't great, but they're some of the better ones I've seen from Norris, and there's lots of 'em. Some are even choreographed.

The picture should be widescreen, but what are you gonna do? In English or French, with Spanish, French, or English subtitles. Recommended for fans of Norris and/or cliched 80's action films. Others beware.

    1982

  4. 1982 was a big year for Chuck Norris. He released two terribly awesome or awesomely terrible movies. One was Silent Rage. The other is the reason your pal, Sid the Elf, has ended his Spring hiatus--Forced Vengeance. Also 1982 is the year in which a hairy chest and a blond mullet crested as the sign of masculine virility. What is not a sign of masculine virility, however, is having a tailor-made chance to have a hot fugitive threesome with a buxom blond and a dark beauty and not getting it done. Shame on you, Chuck. Really, that was the only thing Sid could find wrong with Forced Vengeance. I know it was 1982, but that could have broken down the barrier. We could have B action stars having orgies all over the place by now.

So, instead of something more aptly titled, "Unforced Entrance," we got "Forced Vengeance." And that's just fine with Sid. It is a Chuck Norris movie set in Hong Kong, after all. Chuck plays Josh Randall--no, not John Rambo, Josh Randall. He's a one-man security force for the Lucky Dragon casino, which was founded by Randall's longtime friend Sam Pacal and is now run by Sam's son, David. Early in the film we see Randall's whipping prowess. He goes to collect a $115k gambling debt and simply destroys the gamblers henchman. But we also see his gentle side when he chastises David for making a dishonest dealer walk through the casino bareassed. After a sexy...a time with his girlfriend Carrie, Norris gets back to the casino just in time to thwart a robbery with devastating barrages of roundhouse kicks that never come close to anyone.

Later, at Sam's house, David tells his father about a merger offer of sorts from Stan Raimondi. Raimondi is supposedly the leader of a crime syndicate and he wants to offer "protection" to the Lucky Dragon, but really he just wants to be there to see more bareassed dealers. So, Randall, Sam, and David go to see Raimondi. Raimondi offers Randall a job in an extremely awkward exchange Randall tells him, "Thanks, but no thanks." Raimondi replies, "I'm not a man who hears no very often." And just as one half Sid was saying to the other "Wanna hear it again?" Norris comes out with it. That's why we love the guy, he delivers. Norris then has a near run-in with Raimondi's goon, the second cousin of the "You talk too much" guy from Death Ring. This scene is important for many reasons, none more than than Norris spouts his favorite line in the movie again "Yeah, that's right" which is an old favorite of Santa himself. Randall then goes to Sam's only to find him and David murdered. The only one left in the family now is Joy, Sam's other kid, and the dark beauty mentioned above. So, Norris takes her and Carrie to a perfect rent by the hour motel complete with Asian Santa working the front desk. If ever there was an opportunity for Chuck to shoot the 3, this was it. But, no. Instead they go to see Laurence Fishburne's brother, Laurence Fishburne. This guy is an old friend who gives Chuck a sweet piece. And they have one hell of a look between them through which the sexual tension gushes. Chuck leaves the chicks with LeRoy Nicely--that's really the guys name--to track down some leads on Sam and David's killer. When he returns to Nate's(it totally sounded like Norris kept calling Nicely Nate, sending Sid into a frenzy every time) he finds Nicely badly beaten and Carrie raped and killed with Joy virtually unharmed by Raimondi's goon, Kam.

Holy Turbo Time. Now this is true: Chuck puts on his old Army uniform because he's going Commando. Oh! But, seriously, he's going on a mission to take out everyone involved in the Osirus syndicate. He takes out Raimondi by hanging him off the side of a yacht even though the noose had a good foot of room around his neck. It's a beautiful thing. Also in this sequence, Norris fights a guy who was the insiration for Robin Williams's portrayal of Popeye. Then he goes to get it on with the real head of Osirus, an old man in a wheelchair who is happily watching Tom and Jerry. Of course, he's flanked by Killer Kam. Yep, it's time for the last showdown. There is a horrifically delivered line by Kam, furthering the suspicion that he is the Asian Frankenstein. So, he and Chuck fight it out. Kam is legitimately whooping Chuck, but it's Chuck. He always manages to impossibly pull off the improbable. In honor of the end of Sid's Spring Break, you're getting drive-in totals. We knew you'd be thrilled.

    18 roundhouse kicks

2 roundhouse kicks that actually looked like they landed

7 "Yeah, that's right" utterances by Might U.S. Warlord Premier Norris

    7 1/2 breasts including Norris'

    1 Popeye look-a-like

    1 Asian Santa

13 "Your car thirsty, Chuck?"/Nate jokes

6 "Aren't you Laurence Fishburne's brother, Laurence Fishburne?"/Family Guy refrences

    1 awful bathroom brawl. And...

...213 tough one-liner by the king of the one-liners, Chuck Norris!

  5. In this one Chuck takes on organized crime in Hong Kong wearing a cowboy hat and designer jeans. There are numerous classically horrible tough guy one-liners, good fight scenes, and a silly revenge plot. Classic Chuck Norris!

5 comments about Samurai Jack - The Premiere Movie.
  1. Cartoon Network shows tend to be very, very cool -- at the very least, fascinatingly weird. But their most "righteous" show has to be "Samurai Jack," a dryly hilarious show with a righteous hero, his magic sword, and a truly loathsome villain.

"Samurai Jack: the Movie" is nothing new, merely the first few episodes of the series. Nevertheless, it's a good introduction to anyone who is just checking out this clever little series.

The evil Aku (Japanese for... "evil") has risen again, and lays waste to Japan. But the empress manages to smuggle away the young prince, and over the years he becomes a brave warrior. He returns, frees the enslaved people, and goes off to kill Aku with a magic sword forged by the gods.

But during the battle with Aku, the young samurai is flung thousands of years into the future (think a grimier "Jetsons"). Aku rules the future with an iron fist, and the world is full of volatile aliens, speeding aircars, and talking dogs. Now the samurai -- known as "Jack" -- must free the enslaved dogs from Aku's rule, and find a way back to his own time so this future will never happen.

Of course, he won't find it right away, because otherwise there wouldn't be a story. There's a bonus episode in the extras menu: Jack walks over a miles-long bridge, and encounters a psychotic Scotsman who ends up getting handcuffed to him. Will they escape backwater bounty hunters together, or strangle each other first?

Certainly "Samurai Jack" isn't like anything you've seen before, with its simplistic drawing style and clever scripting. The animation style is reminiscent of classical Japanese artwork, and their movies get a nod in the quiet, relatively slow pacing of the episodes.

And as it entertains you with evil robots and shapeshifting demons, it also throws in a subtle message about honor, kindness, and "righteousness." For a series with no character development, its hero is a pretty lovable guy. He's morally upright, righteous and kind, but somehow it isn't annoying.

And it's fairly cool to see him training with Vikings, Olympic wrestlers, Cossacks, Zen monks, and even with Robin Hood. And when he gets to the future, we get to see him deal with all sorts of bizarro things. (Robot alligators with machine guns?) And surprisingly, Jack adjusts very quickly to his surreal new surroundings.

Though it has nothing that people with the other "Samurai Jack" DVDs won't have, "Samurai Jack: the Premiere Movie" is a good intro for people who are just getting introduced to this clever series.

  2. My son and I both love Samuarai Jack. I bought him the complete first three seasons for Christmas, but I also bought the premier movie. Now, I realize I should have caught on with the title, "Premier" Movie, but I thought it was just the first full length movie of Jack, not what it actually is - the premier episode that was an hour long. There could be worse things than having two copies of the same episode, right?

  3. I recently had the urge to watch this again. It was in heavy rotation for me a few years ago, and now I think it's high time it returned! Seeing how the series progressed, and remembering the first few episodes struck me, it's no mystery why SJ impressed me!

The art style is unlike anything else I've ever seen in animation from any country. Amazing backgrounds, fun dialogue, and action-action-action!

The DVD's inclusion of a bonus episode from the show is odd, in light of having the complete sets of seasons, but welcome. The sketches and interviews are good.

My favorite part of the movie would be the rush through his youth, a tour of the world, and kind of a preview of his entire life, as he tours the world again during the seasons to fight Aku. Watch it again!

  4. An entertaining and different style of animation. If you have a few dollars to spare, go nuts.

  5. Was not properly advertised, therefore I bought Season 1 twice. The movie is also Season 1.

5 comments about The Super Inframan.
  1. I am not normally compelled to write reviews for products or movies online, but when I found out this movie had been released on Region 1 DVD I absolutely HAD to buy it. This disk is so much better than I had imagined I thought I'd spread the word. I never thought in my wildest dreams that a beautiful widescreen print of this 1975 Chinese film with the original bizarre Peter Fernandez-produced English dub would ever hit North America. Thankfully I have finally been proven wrong! Previously only available as a Region 3 disk and VCD, this movie singlehandedly caused me to buy a region-free DVD player. Heavily influenced by Japan's "Ultraman" and "Masked Rider" television series, this cult classic has everything you need: motorcycles, monsters, martial arts, a cyborg superhero and a frenetic pace. The movie is almost non-stop action and is suitable for just about all ages. One word of warning to parents--this disk contains literally dozens of trailers (and other extra goodies) for other Chinese genre movies. The trailer for one particular movie has English subtitles at the bottom of the screen and an on-screen character drops an "F-bomb". Otherwise, you can throw out your grainy, washed-out bootlegs and pick up the best bad movie ever made.

  2. In the late sixties and early-to-mid seventies there was an explosion in Japan. That explosion, which rocked the Japanese culture and sent shockwaves clear into the present day, was the advent of Japanese superhero television programs, namely ULTRAMAN and its many popular imitators. In 1975 Hong Kong jumped on the rubber monster-man bandwagon with their colorful and zany, kung-fu choppin' monster fest: SUPER INFRAMAN. What exactly "INFRA" is suppose to mean or imply is unclear. The dictionary lists "infra" as meaning "under, below, beneath or (my favorite) inferior". So, in essence, what we have is "SUPER INFERIOR MAN". I guess that means he not just inferior ... he's SUPER inferior! Regardless of what it's creators had in mind, SUPER INFRAMAN is a fun 88 minutes of creative men-in-monster-suits action (and I do mean ACTION). You'll see karate choppin', super rocket kicking, growing to giant size, flying, laser shooting, head bashing, throwing, x-ray vision, super punching and flip-floppin' all over your TV screen. Although the film was released in '76 it looks fresh and new, the DVD widescreen transfer is absolutely clean and beautiful. The bottom line: If you're a fan of ULTRAMAN or any of its ilk, you're sure to enjoy INFRAMAN. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did!

  3. This is a great transfer of a great scienvce fiction/kung-fu action monster movie. IT is so filled with wall to wall action that it borders on insane. I remember seeing TV spots for this film in 1977. It has these cool cyborg type villains who shoot mace-like projectiles on springs from their arms. Inframan himself bounces around and does flips and cartwheels as though HE is on springs. A horrible pan and scan VHS tape was released in the early eighties. This DVD has a fantastic picture and is in widescreen. So you wont miss any of the action. The english dubbed track is lifted from that earlier theatrical/video release. It was recorded by Titan sound Inc. and you can hear the voices of Ultraman regulars like Peter Fernandez of Speed Racer. This is really the original Chinese cut of the film, so the animated american opening credit sequence is not here to be seen. This is a shame since it is an improvement over the bland chinese titles. It should have been included as an extra. But, basically, this is the best way to see Inframan. I believe the "INFRA" in Inframan is short for "infra-red". There was a lot of research into this at the time. Inframan's costume is red. And there was an Ultraman spin-off character called Redman in the early seventies, so it all kinda ties in.

  4. Welcome to the worst costume party your communtity college drama class has ever thrown. Super Inframan is everything that you expect it to be by looking at the cover and the title. A man is chosen to undergo physical alterations to stop the world from being taken over by Princess Dragon Mom and her eclectic group of monsters... rubber costumes, paper mache props, ridiculous logic and scenarios, awful dialogue and acting, incredibly dated effects, it's all well represented here. Normally this type of movie would be right up my alley, so why didn't it win me over this time? I think the problem is that although the movie is bad, you can tell everyone involved cared and put enough effort into it to raise it above z-grade shlock (it is a Shaw Bros. picture). In fact, for 1975 the movie is actually kinda good (in a really bad way... confused yet?). While I was hoping for a complete and utter piece of garbage filled with unintentional laughs, what I got instead was a mildly entertaining exercise in below average monster movie film making? I'd compare this to a Power Rangers marathon as it seems like alot of fun at first but shortly after it begins you realize the error in your judgement and change the channel. Obviously by looking at all the other positive reviews, this movie provides enough charm and entertainment to appeal to some and I can understand that... it's the little Shaw Bros. "Ultraman" clone that could after all (maybe I just wasn't in the right mood?). All of Image Entertainments Shaw Brothers releases have fantastic picture and sound and this one is no different.

  5. This is the movie that started it all with the Mighty Morphen Power Ranger Series. I remember the first time I saw this. It was very entertaining. So if you are looking for a fun movie to see this is it. Thank you.

5 comments about Billy Blanks - Tae Bo - Billy's Favorite Moves.
  1. Quick summary: I did not feel I had worked out so much as flailed around for a while. Didn't "feel" it in my muscles, didn't get into it. Heart rate didn't go up much.

I really do like Billy Blanks and Tae Bo. I own the original set and some of the original Basic tapes and my problem is that series is out of print, but some of the new stuff, like this, just doesn't hold up to it (in this case in a significant way). This is because it seems to break with the style that for me makes the earlier material successful.

    1. There is NO warmup. No stetching. Nothing.

    2. Music is important. Here it's canned , unremarkable, and downright cheesy (sample lyric: "Workin' out, yeah-yeah...losin' weight! Yeah, yeah...") I would have imagined with all the success he'd be able to continue to license real music as in the older workouts.

    3. Bustin' a move is not why I do Tae Bo. The little "dance" interludes here are gratuitous, confusing, and disruptive.

    4. Too many fast changes, not enough reps. The workout has me moving so fast and changing so often I'm just trying to keep up, meaning I lose form and effective workout time while figuring out what's going on.

What I typically like about Tae Bo is that Blanks is kind and encouraging, he demonstrates, he explains good form, and he keeps things at a good pace with many reps--all good for a 30something clod like me. I am most comfortable at the pace of the original "Basic" tapes. I *can* do the original "Advanced" tape (though for some moves I have to go at a half-pace), but that's because there are many reps and little pauses or less jumpy exercises between major moves. Unfortunately this workout comes across as slapped-together by comparison.

  2. This is my favorite Billy Blanks workout. My roommate and I purchased it because we wanted to try something different. The moves were a little challenging the first time through, but we caught on quickly. It is one of our favorite videos now. You can tell everyone in the DVD is having fun and we have a great time doing it too. This DVD is good for everyone, but beginners should expect a challenge.

  3. I decided to put this in after not touching it for quite a while (I've been doing the cardio circuit and celebrity DVDs lately) and it's a good change of pace. I agree with others it's not for beginners, as there isn't much actual instruction on the specific moves. The reps seem to be less than "normal," but the fast pace makes up for it. This is the only workout I have where he gets down on the ground to specifically work your back side, and does it ever. The first time I did it I was surprised to see something as simple as pushups included, but being in the military, I can never get enough of those.
Overall it's a good workout, it gets and keeps your heart pumping, and you'll probably feel it the next day.

  4. Work up a sweat and have fun at the same time. I find myself laughing at Billy and myself and just enjoying the workout. I love Billy Blanks.

  5. At approx 45 minutes you might think this workout is a little too short but I am pleased to say it certainly gives me a very good balanced workout with plenty of sweating! There are a few new moves which adds more interest - overall I thoroughly enjoy this one!

5 comments about Bells of Innocence.
  1. "Bells of Innocence" is about three guys who are flying to Mexico in a small plane to deliver bibels. Their plane runs out of oil and they have to land in the middle of nowhere, somewhere in Texas. They find a small town where there is no phone and everybody's acting strange, especially the children. Chuck Norris appears as a mysterious man with a horse. After a while it turns out the town has been taken over by the devil or something like that and that our three christian heroes must save the children.

Even though I know that whenever a film stars David A.R. White, the film is always some sort of christian propaganda, and usually not well made. Still, "Bells of Innocence" was surprisingly badly made. The special effects were what you might have expected from a 1960s movie, and all of the dialogue, and the entire story, was laughable.

If you're looking for a good movie, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a Chuck Norris movie, look elsewhere. He only plays a minor character. If you're looking for a movie that preaches christianity, this might do, and it's also worth watching if you like really bad movies, because it's so bad it's entertaining.

  2. I got this DVD to show it to my friends from Church around Halloween. I really wanted to like it because it is a Christian film and because it has Chuck Norris in it. But it was really bad. The acting was bad, the dialogue and story were silly and there was hardly any action. I decided that I would not put my Christian friends through this punishment and I never watched it with them. I will probably trade this movie for something else at a local movie trading store.

  3. Great message of faith. Also alerts you to the fact that we must at all times protect our children because the enemy (satan) is out to destroy them. They are our future.

  4. I am a very big fan of Chuck Norris and i love all his movie and i bought this one thinking it would be as good as the rest. This movie was awful I have, my child was watching it with me and I had to send her to bed because of the stupid withcraft and Satanism in the movie. This movie should have a rating, which it doesn't, and i think that it is the worst movie he has made! The town in this movie is "possessed" and they think they take all the children to the rituals and they use the children. There is one child in particuler that is possessed and she is so demonic that younger people do not need to watch this movie.

  5. Obviously low budget, interesting premise, kind of surprising for Christians who know about Chuck Norris' conversion.

  1. Just terrible and not worth the money. The fights are horrible and the fighters have very little skill. Puchase PRIDE instead where the best fighters in the WORLD come to fight.

    atrocius

  2. It's always interesting seeing how a few guys will beat each other up. That certainly happened in this event. However, forget the clock, take off the gloves, throw away the rules and have a fight, somethign the UFC hasn to allowed to happen in a long time.

The thing that made the UFC a hit in the first place was that styles were pitted againt each other. To allow this to be valid, and to replicate a street fight, there were almost no rules and there were certainly no gloves. I mean, how many people have on 4 0z. gloves when they're walking down the street and some guy jumps them?

Anyway, the main event is a sham for just that reason. Gracie gets pounded by Hughes, three years after Gracie contentedly stated "I've already fought my battles." Gracie was not in this fight, mentally, for who knows what reason. Assuredly, he got lots of money for the gig.

All I know is that Hughes would not have been able to swing so wildly at Gracie's head without those little gloves on. He would have broken his knuckles. I'd love to see any of these modern fighters fight a 26 year old Royce Gracie, prior to his back injuries, with no gloves on and no rules. Royce's best strike back in the day was a headbutt for crying out loud, and the soft UFC doesn't allow those. Hughes is an athlete, not a fighter.

  3. This was a good card. I don't know why the people who love Pride like to come on and give all the UFC stuff 1 star. It would be great if you could support both organizations and help the sport grow overall. A lot of old fans were drawn back to the UFC with Royce coming back for this fight. Many are disappointed now that there are rules and regulations to make this a legitamite sport now rather than a street fight in a cage. A lot of people were also upset at how easily Royce was pounded by a modern fighter. If you are a Royce fan, then you might want to skip this. Overall the card is full of knockouts and submissions, with only 1 very competative fight going the distance. The only thing I wish is that the UFC had not taken out all the post fight interviews save for the main event. The entire running time is less than 2 hours, so they had plenty of room. I would have also liked some bonus material. Weigh in's, back stage stuff, etc. All 9 fights from the event are included, and I certainly think this is a good purchase.

  4. The Gracie-Hughes match was predictable...Hughes is much too skilled a fighter, and much too smart to fall into a Gracie trap. Not to take anything away from Gracie--He is awesome within his discipline, but the UFC has evolved beyond the uni-dimentional fighter. The rest of the card was, as always, a very good show.

  5. I loved the event, but didn't like how they used the Matt vs. Joyce event to say the new MMA warriors are so much more superior to the old ones. If you ask me, Joyce looked unprepared for the fight and not the same at all. Just because he was a legend, he shouldn't have become a target to try and prove the evolution of MMA. The only proof necessary is to watch the sport now versus the first 10 events.

  1. Pride events are by far the best MMA events I have ever seen. Every one is packed with great fights and solid cards. This event features some of the best fighters including, Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Shogun Rua, Josh Barnett, Takanori Gomi, Mark Hunt, "Dong and Gash" James Thompson, Gilbert Melendez, and Hidehiko Yoshida. Seriously, how can a event be bad with names like that on it! Buy this now, and keep an eye out for Pride 33 and 34 coming out in June/July.

    Matches Include:
PRIDE Heavyweight Title Bout: Emelianenko Fedor vs. Mark Hunt
Lightweight Non-Title Bout: Takanori Gomi vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura
    Gilbert Melendez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
    Joachim Hansen vs. Shinya Aoki
    Kiyoshi Tamura vs. Ikuhisa Minowa
Josh Barnett vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
    Akihiro Gono vs. Yuki Kondo
    Kazuyuki Fujita vs. Eldar Kurtandze
    Hidehiko Yoshida vs. James Thompson

  2. While the PRIDE FC Shockwave 2006 event is great, there are a few things that just irked me the wrong way with the DVD. None of it has to deal with the event itself, but a few minor mistakes that should have been caught in production before release.

    1. There are 10 fights in the show, and instead of putting them all together, they moved two of them to the Bonus Features. It's not that big of a deal, but I dislike the idea of going to a different part of the DVD to watch 2 additional fights. These two fights are Ikuhisa Minowa Vs. Kiyoshi Tamura and Akihiro Gono Vs. Yuki Kondo.

    2. On the DVD Insert, where they give the full listing of every match included on the DVD, they list Aleksander Emelianenko Vs. Pawel Nastula, which is from Shockwave 2005, not 2006. Akihiro Gono Vs. Yuki Kondo isn't on the list. This is a big oversight, that should have been caught immediately.

    3. In the Bonus Features, they miss-spell Gono's name with "Guono." This is also done on the back cover with the same miss-spelling. When you click on the fight and it starts by showing the images of the fighters with their names, they once again miss-spell Gono's name, this time spelling it "Gouno." Gono's name is spelled correctly in the fight footage during the introduction. I still can't believe that they found 2 ways to incorrectly spell his name.

Aside from these few mistakes, I still highly recommend picking up Shockwave 2006. The Chorus Opening is definitely worth a look in the bonus features, as well as the highlights of the fighters walking down to the ring, both of which aren't normally show on MMA dvds. I look forward to the future PRIDE FC releases, hopefully with fewer mistakes this time around.

  1. Surprisingly good effort of mixing secret
agents, fung fu and comedy together with
very good results. Look for bad guy from
'The Patriot' in here as well as foil.
Hewitt sure has grown up! Wow! No more
too 'cute girl next door', like in Party
    of Five!

  2. Quirky, funny and light-hearted! Jackie Chan has wonderful humor in this movie where he plays a chauffer who turns into a secret agent to help catch the bad guy while his boss is in the hospital! Lots of funny high tech gadgets are used in this movie, kind of like the ones you'd expect in a 007 movie!

The drawbacks in this movies is the annoying character Jennifer Love Hewitt plays..... part of the interactions she has with Jackie Chan's character are funny and the other parts are not.

The villian and how he plans to conquer the world is very hokey and phony! Plus how Chan's and Hewitt's characters attempt to capture the villian is a little silly.

Otherwise you have a great movie!

  3. It's one of the bad movies starring Jackie Chan. It's not funny. The fighting scenes are below par compared to other films of Jackie.

  4. Jackie Chan Movies have a certain flair but usually are only fair movies but this one is a terrific movie with a good plot and Jennifer Love Hewitt plays a great sidekick for Chan. Lots of humor and nifty action gets rolling in this film .Chan becomes a super hero in the Tuxedo and watching him use it is hilarious . Don't walk and instead run and get this one for a lot of fun maybe on a Saturday night.

  5. When you are in the mood for a silly movie, this is it! Jackie Chan always manages to make fun out of every situation. Do not take it serious. It is not an action thriller, or a serious movie, It is a fun movie, just go for the ride!

  1. NOW I COULD EASYLY SAY THIS WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE GRATEST MOVE EVER MADE IN THE WORLD THAT IS SO FOR SHORE & THAT IS PUTTING IT LIGHTLY

  2. the only good part of this movie is mickey rourke he is great in it.

  3. Double Team is one of those films that had more bashing than there are actual viewers of the film.
The film, starring actionstar Jean-Claude van Damme and basketbal pro Dennis Rodman, is directed by Hong Kong FilmLegend Tsui Hark. Even though the film has had so many negative words, it is stil a pretty fun ride to experience. I myself also had mixed feelings when seeying it for the first time, but that changed with a second viewing.

The first things that comes to mind when watching the film is that it stars two men who aren't known for topnotch acting. Van Damme is good on action but is most of the time considered average with his acting skills. In Double Team this is no difference: his acting is ok but not great. But when it comes to action, he is on the right spot.
Then there is Dennis Rodman, a probasketball player next to Van Damme. Now he is clearly not a born actor and this shows. Still, his attitide and one-liners are enjoyable and him teaming up with Van Damme is all part of the fun. Seeying them annoy each other and both (Yes, also Rodman) kicking around bad guys is, admit it, an ok way to kill some time. Rodman also plays around with his reallife basketball image, all good fun.

Then we have the story: Easy and pretty Cheesy.
But hey, there are hunderds of films with this kind of plot. But even though it is cliche sometimes, who cares, it works and entertains fine doesn't it? The same is with this film: just put your mind and zero and simply enjoy.

Tsui Hark is known for his actionpacked Hong Kong films and shows his talent with this American film. The way the action is filmed and edited is sometimes true Hong Kong action cinema style. The action is therefor well shot and on a good level. Some good fighting, big explosions and running around.

So, don't think to hard when watching this film, sit back and just let it entertain you. Cause even though the characters haven't got that much backround written for them, the story isn't difficult or highly original, it still has some fun aspects that actionfans can enjoy.

  4. A group of drunken, coke-obsessed urangutangs would have made a better cast then these phelonious hams. My unborn child has felt the pain that this movie inflicted on humanity as a whole. I would rather see my family brutally tortured then hit by 2 oncoming trains simulataneously whilst being molested by Moroccan circus freaks then watch this film. Special not to the creators: I hope you lose your eye-sight in a freak mountain climbing accident involving a billy-goat and a snail...you would think this is the end of the review...but oh no...we've only just begun. You will pay dearly for this crime against humanity. You and only you are to blame for all that is wrong and evil in this world. I wanted to beat Jean Claud Van Damme with a stale baguette and throw Dennis Rodman's limp, lifeless body against a wall then through a flaming basketball hoop when I saw this movie. The meteor in Armageddon made me feel better then watching these two proverbial "actors" walk aimlessly through this maniacal tyrade of a film...OK...I'm done.

  5. Why? Van Damme has soooooo many good movies and this is the third one they decide to put in HD? Uhh..Universal Soldier, Cyborg, Death Warrant, Kickboxer, Hard Target, The Quest, Double Impact, In Hell, Wake of Death and of course BLOODSPORT! Come on now! I mean, sure, I'll buy this one only because I have every one of his movies on DVD and hope they release them all again in HD, but damn. I was really hoping for a better release :(

    I give this 1 star..
