- Ok, folks! Here it is! The second release of One-Armed Swordsmen
by video asia! But is this release any good??? Well let me tell
you, there are changes! Yes! Remember the last One Armed
Swordsmen had this problem where the film will play 12 mintues
in then the movie would skip to the instant action thing! Well,
all I can say is that they DID fixed that problem! BUT DON'T GET
HAPPY, yet! Just when you thought things could get better, they
tend to get worst! Ever have that problem where a DVD is
defective and these blocky images appear on the screen and the
film pauses!? Well this movie certainly has that but there is a
difference! The DVD doesn't pause, but blocky images appear but
get this, there's nothing wrong with the DVD! The blocks are
imbedded! SO HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY! Good news on that is appears
once every like 2 to 4 minutes at a time! It's not a complete
wreck, just wish they can fix that problem! Other problem is
they cut the first 3 and a quarter minutes of the film off and
cut right to the graveyard scene! So you miss the credits (Jimmy
Wang Yu and David Chiang both star and directed this film along
with Lo Lieh)and whatever!
This package comes with One-Armed vs. 9 Killers which is the
same as their previous release (read my review on it)! extras
include interviews with Phillip Ko and Jimmy Wang Yu and a
really awsome behind the scenes making of a kung fu film
documentry called Fist of Fire with David Chiang (one would
assume)!

1 comments about WING CHUN KUNG FU 4 - SIL LUM TAU & APPLICATIONS.
- I was taking Wing Chun kung fu from a local instructor for a while but had to move. Where I moved they had no instructors, so I figured the best thing I could do was order some DVD's to keep my training accurate in as much as possible with a video. I was suprised how informative these dvd's could be.
Pro's:
Each form is covered in great detail from different angles and both slow and fast so you know what to work for, while explaining each move along the way.
After covering the forms in detail, the dvd continues on showing the importance of each move and it's applications with sticky hands freestyle fighting.
You'll break a sweat after following the forms practice. Great exercise.
Con:
Nothing beats real world practice from a qualified instructor.
The video obviously isn't a Dreamworks production. Still you dont miss a thing.
summary:
If you're looking for something to have for study or home practice, this dvd is perfect. If you're new to Wing Chun, you really should have some real world training and use these as training aids. It's the only way to learn sticky hands fighting anyway.
I ordered
WING CHUN KUNG FU 4 - SIL LUM TAU & APPLICATIONS
WING CHUN KUNG FU 5 - CHUM KIU & APPLICATIONS
WING CHUN KUNG FU 6 - BIL JEE & APPLICATIONS
WING CHUN KUNG FU 2 - WING CHUN STICKY HAND PRACTICE

2 comments about Maximum Stretching Martial Arts-D.
- Wow! Where can I begin to tell you how bad this DVD is. Well, lets start with the positives; she has a nice accent, she is beyond flexible, and she is a champion in artistic martial arts, (this had me thinking that this would be really good).
Boy was I ever anxiously awaiting this DVD to arrive, and boy was I disappointed. I was thinking I was going to really get some flexibility going, but unfortunately her direction is so bad, so very bad. She holds some stretchs for 3 seconds and others slightly longer. She doesn't give you any warning that a new stretch is going to happen, so you have to look up at screen - a lot. And barely, if at all, is any direction given as how to do these stretchs, or what muscle/s are being used (you'll get a good laugh when she shows you the back-bend stretch). And forget it if you are a beginner for no beginner modifications are given.
I can't stress how disappointed I am, and I am here to tell you to SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Do not buy this DVD!! I'm sorry Nikki Berwick but instruction isn't your strong point.
Oh, yeah and the only reason I gave it one star is because they don't have an option for no stars - okay 1/2 a star.
- It was so great to finally find a DVD that really, REALLY works on flexibility - not just a bit of reaching for the toes. This DVD is for sure not for the beginner, but if you're already fairly flexible and want to become MORE flexible, this is a great DVD. One caveat - when I ordered it I didn't realize it's in PAL format, which means most people in the US will only be able to watch it on a computer DVD player.

4 comments about Bruce Lee Legacy Box Set.
- Many Bruce Lee's fans don't buy this titles because the description of the dvd was not complete. What are the titles by videoasia?? Please write description or cover. thanks
- This boxed set contains the individual titles which can also be found on amazon below:
Death by misadventure
Bruce Lee: The true story
The Young bruce lee
fist of unicorn
- This set has the most rare footage of any other set about Bruce Lee.
Death by Misadventure is the most riveting docu on Bruce I've ever seen.
No punches pulled and lots and lots of unseen footage.
It has childhood movies never seen before and awesome demos of Bruce doing Wing Chun and his historic demo on Hong Kong t.v. which landed him his Big Boss role.
Bonus features galore including extended interviews with his doctors, friends and students.
Top of the line.
Young Bruce Lee has tons of footage from his childhood films and clips from all his movies.
Terrific bonus features from his first student including a tour of Seattle and another piece on a Bruce Lee Museum in China.
Fist of Unicorn is very rare.
Bruce is only in it a few minutes but the bonus section makes up for that.
A great docu with lots of footage is included plus an awesome stills gallery with unseen photos.
Also his stuntmen talk about working with him.Greta great stuff there!
Bruce Lee True Story is probably the best Bruce Li bio film.
Here they present it with an audio commentary with Joe Hyams, Jow Lewis and George Tan.
The extras are great.
This is a fantastic package for such a low price.
Don't miss this!!!
- I do have to wonder about the credibility of George tan, the pruducer of this boxed set and the documentary featured on here. I mean why are you teaming up with video asia??? Major questions there. I will go over each of the discs in this set. There is major problems with "the young bruce lee" dvd and other not so major problems on all the other discs. I will explain.
FIST OF THE UNICORN- I never thought I could give a movie with yusakai kuratu in it a 0/5, but I am. Add in Whang in-sik who's legs look awesome in this, and I just told you the one good scene of this movie. Unicorn Chan is actually not that bad of an actor and his kung fu skills are not the worst. But his signature move where he flies up into the air like superman and then just comes down to kill his oppenents with his death strike, it is truly unbearable to watch.
Now there is 2 versions of the film on this disc: A really bad full screened english version, and a widescreen one that has an even worse picture with almost unreadable subtitles.
The movie is just so stupid and bad I really cannot recommend this to anyone.
Now the 2 special feature are VERY good. One is an interview with betty ting pei that is REALLY REALLY old. And then a really cool interview with bruce's stuntmen.
BRUCE LEE: THE TRUE STORY-aka-the Man the Myth. The movie is horrible but it was laying around in video asia's library of crappy kung fu movies, so they used it. One interesting note is how they talk about how this movie actually reached Enter the Dragon type of box office #'s worldwide. But I guaranteee you the movie is just godawful.
There are 2 commentaries on this film and one is very important. The important one has the original writer of Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story- Rob Cohen's outrageously stupid and funny American Bruce Lee Bio movie. There is A LOT of important info discussed and this dvd is HIGHLY recommended by me for any bruce lee fan. Joe Lewis comes on and talks about how he met bruce and this commentary alone easily gets a 5/5.
The second commentary discusses the movie, Bruce Lee the True Story.
The extras are pretty good, though the ng see-tuen interview is way out of place. Still all the extras are pretty good.
NOTE-the dvd set gets only a 3 becuase the audio on the important commentary is lousily done and you will need to turn your TV up pretty loud. The commentary that talks about the movie is a little better audio quality.
DEATH BY MISADVENTURE-The documentary itself is truly one of the better investigation doc. about his death. And the commentary is very good. Though terrible audio quality, still worth listening too a couple of times. The doctor that first looked at Bruce, Dr. Don Langford was in like half of the documentary and then is on about 30 minutes of the commentary! It is so insightful that I have alreadsy listened to it twice. It is very interesting.
Now the audio is fine on the movie itself, but like I said is just really bad on the commentary. Still, worth turning up the volume and checking this out if you are a Bruce Lee fan.
THE YOUNG BRUCE LEE-this is an odd Bruce Lee documentary that looks to have been made in the 80's. The first 30 minutes show clips of when he starred in films as a child actor. I looked away for a minute or 2 and all of asudden there was a cartoon with a monkey beating up the devil??? I rewound but it really didn't make any sense, just as the whole movie really doesn't. But just as you get lost it becomes an almost watchable documentary. They show some clips from some stupid clone mmovies. I don't know if this movie/documentary was supposed to make sense, but it didn't come close. All in all, this is worth watching once for "the oyung bruce lee", but not again.
This disc does have a commentary by Jesse Glover, or at least I think it was him. I COULDN'T HEAR A THING! All you can hear is a muffled voice in the backround. Classic Video Asia.
The extras include an interview with Leo Fong, and other good stuff. A lot of it gets repeated on these discs, but only the good stuff. So videoasia, you must have got this done by your deadline, which was probably 1 day, way to go.

2 comments about Great Martial Arts Movies (Blood Of The Dragon / Bloodfight / Champ Against Champ).
- If this was more expensive, my ratings would be much lower. But for $6 (here or at other places), this is a great purchase.
Blood of the Dragon is one of Wang Yu's better films. Not his best, but quite entertaining. He plays the Dragon, the title (I assume) comes from the fact he gets quite badly injured by the other main character - who is actually a good guy. The other character has a "Magic" sword - magic because it has a hidden dagger in it. His weapon is actually pretty cool and well used in the film. Wang Yu uses a spear, and this is one of the few movies where a spear actually looks cool.
Anyway, the film is quality, with a good amount of bloody violence and a large, long (about 20 minute) pretty well-choreographed final fight (ironically, the secondary lead character with the magic sword gets a better fight). This is also the oldest movie I've seen that has a "whip sword".
The film has its boring parts, but stick through em. On second and third viewings, skip them.
Bloodfight I didn't manage to watch. It's pretty bad. But it might be enjoyable if you like the style of film (modern day tournament). Bolo Yeung is indeed the villain in the film.
Champ Against Champ was the big surprise for me. Much better than I expected. Not terrible like many other Dragon Lee films, but quite enjoyable. It concerns a lead character who is with a group of people that get attacked. The main villain hits him with a poison dart, which should have killed him but instead just leaves him missing one leg below the knee (the dubbing here plays into the entertainment - his doctor, an elderly Chinese man, has a Kentucky accent). Not letting that slow down his quest for revenge, he fashions a solid metal leg to use as a weapon in kung fu, and he sets off.
The fights are surprisingly good, and fast paced. There's also occasional parts which are unintentionally funny, adding more to the movies score. Like early in the film, the lead's father (or teacher, I forget), an elderly guy, is watching everyone fight and is quite happy with how it is going, and then a leg comes in from the right side of the screen and hits him in the face HARD. Funny stuff.
There's also the metal leg. Sometimes when he does a sort of super kick (a bit like when Wang Yu's one-armed boxer does his finishing punches, but better) he sends people flying. One guy gets knocked into a tree, others just fly back, and some do this cool thing where they slide really far along the ground. Cool stuff.
- BLOOD OF THE DRAGON-this is the only movie I thought was actually worth seeing on this DVD. The movie is made just for Jimmy Wang Yu and while it is extremely cheap, it still provides quite a bit of fun. Just like Master of the Flying Giullotine, the movie is given an odd touch with rock music in the credits and mixed throughout the film. While it didn't work like Guillotine, it does add to the movie. Basically Wang Yu plays a guy who has to help a kid give a list of names to a leader of rebels so that the government won't kill him. Lung Fei plays his usualy villian role very well but unfortunately he is only a small type of henchman. The whole movie is a build up to the final fight where a whole bunch of people come to take out Jimmy. It is spectacular and very well choreographed for 1973. There are also a couple of very funny parts where you can clearly see the spear not going through and just does not really close at all. I only saw it 4 times though and it did not detract from Jimmy Wang Yu being one of the baddest and coolest dudes ever on screen.
Picture quality is very bad but not unwatchable. I give it a 2.5/5 but lean more towards a 3 than a 2.
CHAMP VS. CHAMP-Dragon Lee and Godfrey Ho collaberate for an almost watchable kung fu movie. It is very odd that I actually made it all the way through this as Dragon On Fire was the only other Lee/Ho movie that I accomplished this. There is one really good fight, the second to last. I think it was Eagle Han but they manage to put together enough kicks and well timed moves to make it look pretty good. Dragon Lee also puts on a few decent kicks though like Van-Damme, he doesn't show any real power, he just sticks his leg up there. The final fight is just godawful as they chose a pretty large guy to fight Dragon. The villians all look as corny as normal but Dragon's master is somewhat likeable.
Picture quality is kind of bad but pretty watchable. I give this movie a surprising 1.5/5 and may have to lean towards a 2.
BLOODFIGHT-this is truly one of the most unwatchable movies ever. Yusuaki Kurata is in a tournamnet at the start at eh movie and throws some people around. We seriously don't get another action sequence form him until the final fight with Bolo that I almost turned off. But after spending 90 minutes watching it, I decided to stick out the last 5 minutes. Wow I was majorly dissapointed. If you are looking for a movie that does not explain ANYTHING, has Simon Yam as the main martial artist in the film, and has a white guy with a jean jacket and sunglasses as the main bad guy throughout the film, then you may want to check this out.
This movie by far has the best picture quality on the DVD. It starts off widescreen then turns to full 5 minutes in. Still pretty good quality, just not a watchable movie.

- It is a great martial arts movie. The story line is a little weak but the choreography on swordsplay and martial arts is excellent. Michelle Yeoh is outstanding as always with her grace, acrobatic style and skill in martial arts. A worthwhile DVD collection if you are a martial arts fan.
- Pretty good action sequences, and like the other reviews state, a LOT of "wire fu"-but this isn't a bad thing necessarily. There are some unique attacks that the characters use that you won't find in other kung fu films. The only problem I had was that the story seemed to jump around a little, so it didn't flow as well as it could-or probably should have.
- If you can get over the kind of acting they had in old Chinese movies, this passes for ok.
- Off the wall, the ceiling, treetops, clothesline, and just about anything else.
Oh, there's some kind of convoluted plot in there about multiple levels of secrecy and multiple loyalties, a scheme to take over the world of martial arts, and a chastely inept romance. We also have Michelle Yeoh, a few years before the West discovered her in Tomorrow Never Dies, in a role that threatens to bring credibility to this flying-swordsman flick. Fortunately for all concerned, not even she could pull it off.
The movie starts off slowly. The final fight scenes are all you could hope for, though, with magical weapons, mystical powers, and cartoony if bloody violence. The flying fighters, whirling off (and sometimes through) walls are enough to leave any professional wrestler crying in envy, but the costumes, scenery, and group scenes are far better. If you're after serious cinema, you've made a horrible mistake; if your tastes have matured beyond cartoons but only just barely, this might be a good one for you. Or might not.
-- wiredweird
- I must be spoiled by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, Iron Monkey and House of Flying Daggers. I was expecting something along the same lines (in terms of art direction, costuming, story, etc.). In that regard I was disappointed. It felt unpolished.
Was hoping for something a bit more epic or fantastic. The fights were also somewhat unpolished. Granted, I saw some things I hadn't seen before, but it just looked a bit rough / raw in terms of the actual film style and that turned me off from enjoying it. As the Amazon review also said, some of the fights and editing cuts are so frenetic it's hard to tell who's slaughtering who until it's over.
In all, unless you're really a fan of the genre and don't mind what I'd call unpolished camera work, you might want to rent this before buying it. It's unfortunate that the box/art exceeds the quality of the movie itself.
