5 comments about Street Fighter's Last Revenge.
- Sonny Chiba is back and killing more bed guys in gory ways in STREETFIGHTER movie 3. It is some wath more violent and notorious then part 2, but has less more then wath the first one has. It has more point and less taste then the other 2, but is more serious then 2. Part 3 finds our man Terry Tsuguri, is working for yet an other evil mob boss. But win the job is done, he gets double crossed (aging) and not only is that bad, his new girlfriend double cross him (but has sex with him first) and it is not long before the hitting, blood spurting, throat ripping, skull smashing action stars. You got to love these movies, well only if you were a 49 year old mother or a little who vomits win ever he sees blood you will not like it. Chiba was said to have became a monk win he was done with this film, but has been in many other films like the none STREETFIGHTER movie SISTER STREETFIGHTER (1976) as a guy named Sonny, Toho's old odd ball sci-fi film for kids called INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MAN (1962) and is said to bee working on a new film named KILL BILL by Quentin Tarantion (who is a fan of his).
1979. New Line. 80 MINS. Rated R for Strong Action Violence, Brief Language and Some Sexuality.
- In order to take the series in a new direction, the film makers dropped the rough and tough street fighter motif in favor of some really bad 007 and "Mission: Impossible" stuff.
The simple plot starts when Chiba gets double crossed by some drug dealers who need two audio tapes in order to create cheap synthetic heroin. He also gets mixed up with a corrupt District Attorney, who kicks Chiba bootay thanks to an ancient Korean martial arts technique. The D.A. is also playing both sides of the fence, and Chiba and D.A. end up bedding one of the hottie girl villianesses. A final showdown between the D.A. and Chiba is good, and an explosive finale kills a major character. Chiba dons a mask not once but THREE different times, pulling it off like a poor man's Martin Landau. He also has a secret room in his apartment, and sleeps with the villainess. All I could wonder was "what happened to the street fighter?" Instead, Chiba wears diguises from which his identity is discovered anyway. At one point, he has two giant suitcases of money as payment for the heroin recipe tapes. He sleeps with the villainess, who distracts him long enough for the suitcases to be stolen. Did Chiba hide the money elsewhere, knowing the villainess' plan? Did he booby trap the suitcases, knowing the henchmen would be after them? No! Now he has to get the money back again. For an international hitman, scrappy street smart karate expert, and champion of justice, he sure does some stupid things in this film. By the time the Bond-like villain shows up (a guy in a sombrero with lasers hidden up the sleeves of his bull fighting uniform) the film had lost me. A subplot involving an answering service girl who has a crush on Chiba goes nowhere. This was the last "Street Fighter" entry with Chiba as the main star, but it was followed by the last film of the series: "Sister Street Fighter." Either way, this is by far the worst of the first three films. I cannot recommend it. This was Japanese dubbed into English and rated (R) for strong physical violence, strong gun violence, gore, some profanity, female nudity, and sexual content.
- Absolutely one of the best films I have ever seen. I watch it often and still enjoy it.
- The third insallmenet in the Street Fighter trilogy has the best plot yet. A gang of mobsters wants a formula for synthetic hieroin. The gang double crosses Terry (big mistake), murders his girlfriend(bigger mistake) and fails to kill him(biggest mistake). So as expected Terry goes after them and gets his revenge. The gang realizes too late it is bad for one's health to ... off Terry Tsurugi. I liked the action even though I had a pretty good idea what was going to happen after they killed his girlfriend. The action was cool and brutal. I recomend this as well as the first two, Street Fighter and Return of the Street Fighter, wheather you are a fan of Bruce Lee or Sonny Chiba.
- IN THE FINAL MOVIE OF THE ''STREET FIGHTER'' SERIES, SONNY CHIBA RETURNS AS TERRY SURUGI TO PROTECT A SET OF TAPES THAT CONTAINS A FORMULA FOR MAKING HEROIN. BUT A DRUG CARTEL ALSO WANTS THOSE TAPES, AND THEY'LL STOP AT NOTHING TO GET THEM. BIG IMPROVEMENT OVER ''SISTER STREETFIGHTER'', THAT'S THE ONLY GOOD THING I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS FINALE. THOUGH THERE ARE STILL GOOD FIGHTS, THE STORY IS WEAK, SONNY'S CHARACTER HAS GOTTEN SOFT, AND IT'S TOO SLOW MOVING AT TIMES. WELL, IN MY OPINION, SONNY CHIBA DESERVED A MUCH BETTER WAY TO GO OUT IN THE LAST MOVIE OF THE SERIES THAT HE WILL BE REMEMBERED MOST FOR.

1 comments about Skinny Tiger and Fatty Dragon.
- This could be considered sort of a sequel to Enter the Fat Dragon. It doesn't feature the constant worship of Bruce Lee, but Sammo does fight and act the same way that he did in Enter the Fat Dragon. Sammo and Karl Maka star as cops who try to do their job well, but they are just a little too ready to fight with people. They end up getting in trouble and are fired. But they still want to bust a drug dealer. I don't know why I'm explaining the story, because it doesn't even matter. This movie is nonstop comedy and fighting. The comedy is good at times, though nothing great. The fights on the other hand are magnificent. Sammo must have been using some type of performance enhancement, because a fat man should not be able to move like that. All of the fights are good, and I mean really good. The only thing I was disappointed with was at the end where Mark Houghton and Sammo square off, and the fight seems to be cut way short. I've heard that there is a rare longer version of this movie that has the full fight scene, so I am going to have to track that down.
4/5
The Mei Eh DVD has pretty good picture quality and subtitles.

4 comments about Wing Chun Kung Fu.
- First off. This comes as a DVD-R not a pressed DVD, so incompatibility might occur on some DVD Players.
That being said, this is DVD rip of a VHS master. It's ok, it's basically the fundamental of Wing Chun. Not very good in the details. No chapter stops. I believe it's only 30 minutes long. I would say that the cost and quality exceeds the value of this DVD.
- The DVD cover looked good online but it is nothing more than a inkjet printed cover. Poor audio. No structure on topics covered. Nothing more than a home video with the Master and his students demonstrating some aspects of wing chun. Could be better but for now really poor show. For the price I paid for it, simply not worth the money.
- If all the martial arts DVDs I buy were as informative as this one, It would
be a perfect world. The footage is historic, so for overall quality, I give it a 4.
- I have been searching for an informative Dvd on Wing Chun basics and now I have found it. This is some of the best footage that I have seen of this style.

3 comments about Iron Fist.
- This is the story of Wong Kei Ying the father of the great Wong Fei Hung potrayed several times in Once Upon A Time in China series by the great Jet Li. This double disc set is a knockout and the fighting is nonstop, the action is centered around a good story about his training, dedication to his Master and political beliefs and the love of a woman. I was really excited to see that my favorite villian Lung Wei had a major role in this film.I enjoyed disc one over disc 2 but other viewers must draw their own conclusions. The first disc is a five star movie, disc two would be a 4 star for my overall rating of the high end.
- This dvd is a 2 disc set presenting the Hong Kong TV-B mini-series "Southern Fist, Northern Kick", a kung fu period piece starring Terry Fan from the Story of Ricky and "girls with guns" beauty Moon Lee. The length of this Tai Seng presentation is just over 3 hours, and has been pared down from the original series, with the film content being mostly fight scenes -- you can tell that quite a bit of the story exposition was cut out, as the fights occur often -- almost every 3 to 5 minutes there's another fight or training sequence. Still, enough of the plot development scenes were left in tact so that the viewer can follow the dramatic love story between Terry Fan's character and Moon Lee's character, as well as the two over riding plots in the film -- one involving a rivalry between a northern kung fu master and a southern kung fu master, and the other being a plot to overthrow the emperor. Kung fu film afficianados will be pleased to see some familiar faces in strong supporting roles, and this all adds to the excellence of the fast paced, breath taking fights scenes. Terry Fan and Moon Lee are excellent in their roles, and their fight scenes allow them to demonstrate their skills very admirably. The fight choreography in this series is representative of what you'd see by Yuen Woo Ping or Yuen Kwai (Corey Yuen), and harmoniously blends wire work with classical kung fu styles (i.e. tiger and crane fists, among others), as well as modern wushu with its brand of acrobatics and high kicks. There is also a good balance between weapon battles and hand to hand battles. Further enhancing the quality of the fight scenes is the excellent camera work. As this was a tv series, the picture is in full screen format, but no need to worry, as the clarity of the picture is good. Overall, highly recommended to fans of kung fu films, and a must see for fans of Moon Lee and Terry Fan.
- Interesting to see that this product isn't completely unknown, having had two reviews here on Amazon already. As has already been stated, this is indeed a much-shortened version of a TVB series produced in Hong Kong. The original series has 20 45-minute episodes, the standard length of an average TVB series. This means that the original length of over 10 hours of actual screen-time has been reduced to 3-hours.
When the original series was released in Hong Kong, the show was decidedly unsuccessful and remains a little-known series. As a martial arts movie fan however, I thought the series was much underrated. The cast, far from consisting of popular TVB stars and starlets, actually featured martial artists and stunts actors who have made their names in the martial arts movie genre. Of note are Wang Lung Wei (Clan of the White Lotus), Moon Lee (Angels series), and Xiong Yen Yen (OUATIC series), all of whom have had extensive experience in the once flourishing genre of the 80s and early 90s.
However, it was the male-lead, the then (and still) little-known Fan-Siu Fong who really stood-out. Not only does his martial arts skills really show and was able to convincingly demonstrate the legendary tiger-crane style, but the guy's also a serious kicker! There's this scene right at the end where he was supposedly training as a beginner of "northen kicking" and he deals out some serious kicks, without wires or doubles and in full frontal view! Why the guy hasn't gone on to work in Hong Kong's now dying martial arts movie business, we shall never know.
The series has many flaws though. In fact, it's not even a good series if you're not into Martial Arts genre. Even the full story in the original series feels somewhat contrived and the acting is mediocre and melodramatic. Although the action sequences employ choreography and camera-work reminiscent of martial arts movies, the scenes lack distinction and realism. The series is far from movie material. It was obviously produced with low budget and does some serious music ripping, mostly from Japanese, American and other Chinese OSTs.
Another point is that I very much prefer the full series. This shortened version actually included the main stories: the North vs. South story, the white lotus story, and the story about Qing reformation. However, they still left out a significant amount of the series, including important death scenes and some good fights. Also the main stories felt very rushed and may seem choppy and nonsensical. In other words, if you liked this DVD-set, you'd definitely want to see the whole series.

1 comments about WING CHUN KUNG FU 5 - CHUM KIU & APPLICATIONS.
- I was taking Wing Chun kung fu from a local instructor for a while but had to move. Where I moved they had no instructors, so I figured the best thing I could do was order some DVD's to keep my training accurate in as much as possible with a video. I was suprised how informative these dvd's could be.
Pro's:
Each form is covered in great detail from different angles and both slow and fast so you know what to work for, while explaining each move along the way.
After covering the forms in detail, the dvd continues on showing the importance of each move and it's applications with sticky hands freestyle fighting.
You'll break a sweat after following the forms practice. Great exercise.
Con:
Nothing beats real world practice from a qualified instructor.
The video obviously isn't a Dreamworks production. Still you dont miss a thing.
summary:
If you're looking for something to have for study or home practice, this dvd is perfect. If you're new to Wing Chun, you really should have some real world training and use these as training aids. It's the only way to learn sticky hands fighting anyway.
I ordered
WING CHUN KUNG FU 4 - SIL LUM TAU & APPLICATIONS
WING CHUN KUNG FU 5 - CHUM KIU & APPLICATIONS
WING CHUN KUNG FU 6 - BIL JEE & APPLICATIONS
WING CHUN KUNG FU 2 - WING CHUN STICKY HAND PRACTICE

- During a time when comic interpret movie was common in the 1996/97 era, this was one of the by-product. I think this is a pretty bad movie in general and it just really wasn't executed well. The plot is based on the comic Red Light District comic with Playman Man (played by Michael Tao) vs. But Bit Wah (played by Simon Yam). There were two hot female lead, Chimney Yao and Shi Chi but the story was poor and the entire story is rather incomplete. This one is defn not worth the money for but if you enjoy comic intrepretation movie, you might enjoy this one.

2 comments about The True Game of Death.
- OK...now I'd been anticipatin' the re-release of The True Game of Death(a childhood favorite and the 1st "Bruce Lee" flick I'd ever seen since being introduced to the Bruce Lee craze by a childhood friend) for years. And having LOVED what i saw as a kid, I went berzerk when i found out via CD Now in February 2005 that it was being re-released only a week before my last birthday...so it was a must have for me. When my order for TGOD finally came in today, I watched it for the 1st time in about 20 years, and while I'm celebrating the walk down memory lane, watching this movie as an adult and with an adult understanding of Bruce Lee & Bruceploitation flicks, I noticed the poor dubbing, grainy picture, rough sound, the inclusion of filler snippets from some of Bruce Lee's other movies, and the bad acting. And on top of that, I'm just now realizing that what we have here is a low-budget, independently released version of the 20th Century FOX Game of Death, in that the fight sequences are almost identical to some of those in the 20th Century[BUTCHERING] of Bruce Lee's Game of Death. However, the film's plusses are: the fight scenes, Bruce Lee's original pagoda concept is used somewhat(though considerably shorter than Lee had intended and slightly different),Bruce Lee clips are used in thought sequences rather than spliced in with lookalike fight sequences, and the fact that Hsiao Lung actually bears more of a resemblance to Bruce Lee than many of the other lookalikes. Unfortunately, like the 20th Century release, this version exploits Bruce Lee's life and death and is full of Mafia/Triad conspiracy theory(ie, crime bosses threaten Hsiao Lung and his girlfriend Alice, he refuses to sign with a syndicate's film company, they force Alice to "poison" his coffee, he fakes his death, and takes revenge on the syndicate boss "George"). Equally as important, considering that the previous dvd release of this same film implies that Bruce Lee & Bruce LI are the stars...the star of the film is clearly NOT Ho Chung Dao(bka Bruce Li, Lee Shao Lung), but another talented, yet underrated, lookalike credited this time around as Hsiao Lung...but whom I believe to be Bruce Lo(based on footage I'd seen on a Bruce Lee documentary). Regardless, the film is a keeper for hardcore Bruceploitation fans...but it would've been better if it were released in WIDESCREEN, remastered, and re-dubbed. If TGODeath doesn't float your boat, I strongly recommend Goodbye Bruce Lee: His Last Game of Death(Bruce Li) and Game of Death 2(Tong Lung0 because they're truer to Bruce Lee's vision and philosophy for GODeath than the 20 th Century version and the TrueGODeath. Holla...
- This is one of the films I covered in my master's thesis on Bruce Lee clones. Absolutely one of the funniest shlock jobs ever done. Bad music, bad dubbing, bad acting. Also, the "star" spends so much time wearing sunglasses and rubbing his nose a-la Bruce Lee, it's hard to believe he had time to learn the unforgetable and yet totally forgetable dialog. I ordered this especially for the laugh value, because it has no martial arts value whatsoever. My favorite line is the young american gangster who tells Alice to put "a drug in his (bruce's) drink". To make him" sleep for three days...it's medicine.." Uh, yeah. This film is medicine too. If one is feeling down and blue, watching this film makes you realize you are four steps ahead of the idiots who contrived this garbage. All the cliched stereotypes are there, and if Bruce's wife "Alice" had any more emotion, she'd closely resemble a plastic bag. That being said...the laughs are worth the price of purchase.

5 comments about Ayane's High Kick.
- Ayane Mitsui is a high school girl with dreams of one day becoming a pro wrestler. However, she fails to make the wrestling try-outs. Disapointed, she heads home, but runs into Kunimitsu, a man who says he recognizes she has talent and wants to train her. Ayane accepts, not knowing that he plans to train her as a kickboxer, not a wrestler. Naturally, she's quite upset when the day of her first match is to be a kickboxing one, since she has no interest in anything but wrestling. Regardless, she goes ahead and fights her opponent, and after a hard battle, wins. Ayane then plans to quit kickboxing, but things don't work out so well.
Sayoko, an arrogant rich girl and undeafeated kickboxing champ, is upset when the newspapers decline to comment on her latest victory and instead focus on Ayane's debut match. Now Sayoko begins taunting Ayane, wanting to meet her in the ring. What's more, The vice principal of Ayane's school has found out about the match, and it turns out students are strictly prohibited from participating in outside sports, and now the vice principal wants her expelled. However, the head principal saw and loved Ayane's match, despite it's violation of school rules, and he warns that, given the recent publicity the school has recieved as a result of her match, expelling her could give the school great public shame. What it comes down to is this: If Ayane fights and defeats Sayoko, she'll be allowed to stay in school. If she loses, the principal says,"We'll discuss the options, including expulsion." (Yes, I know, it's hard for me to belive, too, but just try to suspend your disbelief.)
(WARNING! MAJOR PLOT SPOILER AHEAD!!!)
Many people have complained before about the ending, saying that it leaves you hanging. While it does leave you wanting to see Ayane have a second match against Sayoko so she can really kick the rich chick's butt instead of just winning by desicion (especially with the way Sayoko tells Ayane she didn't really win, and Ayane's own dissatisfaction afterwards,) this ending doesn't feel nearly as incomplete as some other animes I've seen (LEGEND OF THE LAST LABRYNTH, NINJA CADETS and JEWEL BEM HUNTER LIME immediately come to mind.) Even if Ayane never gets to fight Sayoko again, we know for certain she'll at least be allowed to finish school, so the ending's really not that bad.
- Although the animation can look a bit aged at times it never stops you from enjoying this series. Baki the grappler and Ayane do resemble each other but there are some differences that give Ayane a much more interesting story. For one Ayane starts out with no fighting skills but her semi athletic body assures her potential to be a professional wrestler. A lot of people want to throw a wrench into Ayane's plans to dominate wrestling except for her friend and trainer. Ayane's high kick is full of tough girls that will fight to their very last breath to win. There's tons of cool action and an even better story but who knows what's next for her.
- IMO it's good that this anime was not finished. The plot is not too complicated in order to be unpredictable. However, the result is short and amusing.
- "From The Screenwriter Of Cutey Honey!" That's what the headlines on the back of the DVD scream. I'll confess now, upon reading that, I had foreboding thoughts of naked girls with their naughty bits barely covered up.
Boy was I wrong.
There's no naughtily at all. Ayane's High Kick is the story of Ayane Mitsui and her dream to become a Professional Wrestler. Unfortunately, she sucks. However, she dose have one strong point. Her legs. With these legs, she can deliver what's dubbed "The Golden High Kick," a blow that can cause a KO instantly, which would without a doubt, make her an excellent Kick Boxer. Just one tiny problem. Ayane HATES kick boxing. So, her manager tricks her into thinking he's training her to be a Pro Wrestler, all the while, training her to be the best Kick Boxer in all Japan, and defeat the nasty Sakurako Miyagawa and her gravity defying Pony Tail.
Like I said in the beginning, Ayane's High Kick is not what I expected, in fact, the ending caught me by surprise, and you can't help but wonder weather or not the producers had plans for a sequel. The animation is superb, and the voice acting to mediocre. I say this because the actors do their best to lip sync to the obviously over done mouth movements of the animation. The end result is that some words come out over done, and strung out a bit too long. The characters themselves are fine, and are the typical Japanese animie characters. My only problem with the characters are the vice principle, who seems way to obsessed with trying to get Ayane expelled, and Sakurako's motives for hating Ayane. They just seemed too forced in my opinion.
Over all, Ayane's High Kick is a fine investment, and a good watch.
- Ayane's High Kick had potential to make a better series than a 60 minute movie. The very short run time just doesn't cut it here. The main character Ayane fails the try outs to become a pro wrestler. She is then tricked by a kick boxer trainer to be trained by him and booked in fights.
There really isn't too much to talk about here. This short anime movie shouldn't have been made. It was totally rushed from start to finish. There are two fights and given the amount of time to develop. It just wasn't believable. Ayane in the end had only 2 weeks to prepare for an opponent that should have obliterated her inside of 30 seconds. The fan service is non existent for those who care. The animation is pretty good but dated.
I think it's best to skip this. I had this for a very long time and rarely watch it. If you want a cheesy anime with a young female fighter trying to over come the odds. I recommend Metal Fighter Miku way before this. If it's martial arts you want then try out Baki the Grappler. There is no reason to waste an hour of your life watching this. This anime is not engaging at all. The 5 star reviews prove to me, that alot of people don't have a damn clue on what is a good anime title. I have just lost what tiny bit of faith I had in anime reviews on amazon.
