- Shaking eagle plays the role of a young revolutionary being hunted by the ching lord. Along with running away from the government he is also on the run from a crazy grandfather trying to wed off his grand daughter. A mix of comedy and great kung fu. A must see, in my mind a classic.
- A man is holding a martial arts tournament for anybody who wants to fight his granddaughter. The prize for winning is marrying her. And his granddaughter is Doris Lung! After annihilating everyone that comes along, Sze Ma Lung accidentally gets involved in a fight and beats Doris quite easily. Sze Ma Lung stars as a Ming Patriot who has to avoid the Chings and now has to avoid Doris Lung's grandfather. After retrieving a secret name list, he looks to take down the evil white haired warlord played by Lo Lieh. Lo Lieh uses magic kung fu and this is some sort of internal style where you can take blows without being hurt (it's not really explained). The final fight gets a little weird when Lo Lieh starts using some kind of emotional style.
The movie is very boring with long drawn out comic sequences, but the action barely manages to make up for it. Sze Ma Lung is not of of the best kung fu performers ever, but he is still VERY good. His fist forms are certainly among the best, but he doesn't get to do enough action in this. There are plenty of fights and one of the few highlights is Sze's fight with a guy known as big mouth. He is the strongman in 'Blooded Treasury Fight' and is one of Lung fei's two students in 'One Armed Boxer'. And Lung Fei very briefly appears in this movie. Doris lung is also very good in her limited action. Like most movies from Joseph Kuo, the editing can be a bit choppy, undercranking is a little overused, and the trick editing using flips and such is overdone. The action is still pretty good. Lo Lieh is decent in his only fight, but he shows up with only 17 minutes left in the movie. Not one of Kuo's best, below average.
2/5
The DVD from Groundzero is full screen and picture quality is watchable. Bonus fights include clips from the cripple classic 'Four Invincibles', some good choreography from 'Art of War', the horribly bad 'Eagle Vs. Silver Fox', and 'One Man Army' which is a decent Yueh Hua movie.
Also, Amazon obviously has this movie listed with the wrong actors but it says the distributor is Groundzero which is correct. Amazon has a lot of problems with putting reviews for many different movies on one item because they all have the same or similiar name. I have stopped emailing them about all of the movies this occurs with because they never fixed any of them. It must be a glitch in the system, but it would be REALLY nice to see this get fixed one day. 'The Crying Freeman' live action movie is mixed in with the anime series, somehow they think 'Shaolin Hero' (Meng Fei and Leung Kar Yan) is the same movie as 'Ninja Hunter' (Jack Long and Chang Shan), and there are a lot of problems with the reviews for the Zatoichi movies. Too many problems to name.

- Now I will start off by telling you that this is by videoasia. So yeah, you may want to find another version, but I will tell you what. You don't know kung fu if you can't watch the picture on this one. I mean it isn't distorted or anything, and the print isn't too dirty, hell it isn't even fully full screened. The picture is just kind of like there and it's good, just no full rich colors. It is hard to explain the picture on this one, but if you have seen 7 steps of kung fu then I can say the picture is better then thta. I hate having to try to come up with new terms, but i will leave at "this dvd is very acceptable".
Also the sound will vary, typical videoasia release.
So the movie is freaking awesome. The action is directed by the great robert tai. The only real confirmations that I know of is that he is the SUPER cool bad guy from john liu's Incredible Kung Fu Mission, aka Kung Fu Commandos. And he worked as an action director on The Return of the Five Deadly Venoms, aka Crippled Avengers, aka Mortal Combat. So he is back as the bad guy for this, and I have to believe he at least had a hand in the martial arts instruction, because this a beautifully choreographed movie. And classic style, savign the very best for last.
Speaking of the dvd itself, it has a great special feature on it shows you arrest techniques and stuff like that. It is some really good instruction. A great new addition to the instructional video section.
Now the movie itself kicks some serious tail. You get a secret rivals type of a story where john liu's brother is killed and he finds a knife in his body. He goes to fight the southern fist champion(lo rei) becasue it is just known i guess that it is his knife. They talk it over and liu tells lo rei that if the murderer hasn't been found, then lo rei is going to jail. Lo rei, is just like, whatever dude, you are not gonna be taking me anywhere, so keep on blowing smoke if you feel like it. So we get to meet the boss behind all these plans(robert tai). And not really giving anything away(unless secret rivals 1 and 2 are some of your favorite storylines), but he framed lo rei of the murder. So that is basically the whole story, but we get a ton of good fights the whole way through the movie and a lot with a young acrobat that I have only seen in a couple of other movies. Everybody seems to remember ninja in the dragon's den because of the final fight with hwang lee, just so all you people know, the kid who kept saying: "My father will make you pay for this", well he is hwang's magic stylist son. HE IS ONE OF MY NEW FAVORITE MARTAIL ARTISTS. They didn't really showcase him in corey yuen's classic with hiyuroki? sanada, and the great conan lee. But even though his legs seem to be like 2 feet shorter than liu's (LoL), his form and legwork are freaking sweet. And his friend is a pretty good comedy actor. And that's another thing, corey yuen didn't showcase the MA skills, but This kid playing the woodcarver (LoL) was picked for his acting. Well both are on dispay here and he makes the movie so enjoyable it would seriously suck if he wasn't in it. So whoever directed this $100 movie, thanks.
So of course northern kicks champ and southern fist champion alexander lo rei are going to have their fights and those are all good. But you all know what you got this for. The final fight definitely tops all the others in this movie. But the choreography is just so awesome, I honestly had to put this movie right back in after the first time I watched it to see it again. And when the final fight came, oh man, it was even better than the first time.
So the dvd isn't remastered, but it is a GREAT movie.
- I really enjoyed this flick,,,,equally an amazing performance from John Liu as he was in Secret rivals 1 and 2. I'm a John Liu fan period,,and expect nothing less than a stellar performace every-time I check out his flick,,this dude has never let me down!! The cinematography and choreography well done!! This film is easily up there with the best of them!! Definately a gem!! Respectively,,the dvd transfer may not be great unless you have the "Red-Son version,,,however, that took nothing away from this amazing, well put together kicker!!
- i have this and the fight sequence is not bad in comparisum to 1&2 the series stays true to the hard core fighthing and actors in 1&2 but if your into collecting id say buy it. but if you don't have 1&2 id say leave it right on the rack where all the corney one's was left.. (lol) however this is the english version though this cover of the dvd i'm talking bout.

- Well, this was definitely a kids' movie. It starts out great, and within the first 10 minutes there's a "Lost Boys Chinese food" homage and an attack by dozens of undead that is fought off with Kung Fu and magic.
After that, there's a love story, a bunch of arguing between two brothers, and a lot of silly humor. There's nothing scary here and the director cuts too quickly in the fight scenes. My 10-year-old son loved the movie, but it didn't hold my interest at all. I much preferred Ong Bak and Shaolin Soccer to this.
Also, the ending is jarring and kills any momentum the movie had. The sequel might make this better, but it doesn't hold up on its own.
- Don't get me wrong, Kill Bill is the ****, but come on! Gordon Liu is the Master Killer (one of the best kungfu movies ever made) he's the Drunken Master, he's the Shaolin that challenged an entire ninja clan. To boil his filmography down to "The Star of Kill Bill" is just painful.
Anyway, with that out the way, there are just plain better (i.e. older) movies in the genre. There are better stupid movies in the genre (Twins Effect) for example though that's not saying much. I agree with most here, the movie is just ok, the ending is wack (it's not even a well done cliffhanger) but OMG what a tremendous waste of talent in Gordon Liu. Hong Kong has made better films in this genre with less advanced special effects because the movies took themselves seriously in an unbelievable fantasy world by focusing on the characters and their relationships. Heroic Trio, or The Bride with White Hair for example. There was just a time in the 80s and 90s when Hong Kong turned out classic after classic and this could have been one. (But I still give props to Hero, Crouching Tiger and House of Flying Daggers)
Sure Liu's face is fuller, and he's not cut up like he used to be, but he's still got the skills. Ah well, it's still one for the collection because Gordon Liu holds the film together, IMHO, and I'm a Gordon Liu fan for life.
Hopefully Part 2 will redeem it.
- I've never written a review, but I'm writing this one because this movie is a rip off. STAY AWAY.
On one hand, the movie itself isn't too bad. It's pretty corny, and the story is disjointed. However, this is standard kung fu fare. The action isn't too bad, and after a while, I started to actually dig the plot. We were looking at a solid three star movie--it really started to pick up the pace, when all of a sudden...the movie ends. Credits roll.
And then the credits roll--with awesome footage, THAT YOU CANNOT SEE! WHERE IS THE REST OF THE MOVIE? It's worse than the Heidi Bowl! What the heck were the producers thinking? This movie is a rip-off...stay away. What little redeeming values were there were absolutely killed by the sudden ending.
Pass pass pass.
- Fans of Kill Bill should enjoy this, like Kill Bill, the movie is so long that it had to be cut in halves to adjust to the low attention span of the western audience.
- Like many of the other reviewers I wondered what the deal was with the ending of this movie. It was an abrupt ending leaving me feeling rather shafted. So I got online to figure it out. This movie is actually called "Demon World". You can get the full version, however unless you speak or can read Chinese it probably won't be of much help to you (seeing as it doesn't even have English subs). This movie is awesome!!! I love it!!! I am annoyed that this isn't the full movie, but on the bright side it gives me something to look forward to. I understand they are milking this film for all it is worth and I will buy the sequel. I wish the Chinese version had English subtitles!!! Oh well, I can wait. All in all this movie is really good and for any Gorden Liu fan it is a must!!!

- I liked all of these DVDs. They really teach you hand on techniques to use in a fight. It's no mumbo jumbo, its the real deal. Adam, the instructor is a very interesting instructor and explains the moves with great detail. These DVDs are a little pricey but sure do teach you a lot. If you are a big fan of UFC you will be sure to enjoy this whole collection.

1 comments about Deadly Target.
- Its kinda hard to rate this film, as it has both good moments and some bad ones. I rather liked the cast, as many of the faces (especially the Asians) are familiar, and appear in many other martial art films. The action is satisfying, when it occurs, which is only abundant at the beginning and ending of the film. The story however, is not original and quite predictable. It gets slow at times, and even strays away from the focus of what its actually suposed to be about.
The positive things about Deadly Target are the cast and the action. Gary Daniels not only plays lead, but shares the role with Ken McLeod (Showdown, Street Fighter) who is also skilled in martial arts. As for the baddies, there are only two that really get to show off some skill. Ron Yuan is one of my favorite martial art movie villains, and once again makes an appearancein this film. He has probably been in more movies than almost anyone else I know, including titles such as Ring of Fire 1 & 2, White Tiger, To Be The Best, Bloodfist V, and Street Crimes to name a few. The other guy in this movie I am not familiar with, but he gives the Ken McLeod charcater a coupld of good one on one fights in this movie. Ron Yuan, by the way, has 2 fights against the Gary Daniels character, and is even involved in a lengthy car chase. Unfortunately, the action is onyl abundant in the beginning of the film and end. Both are quite exciting scenes, but in between there isn't anything worth while expect to kill time.
As for story, that is where the movie begins to fail. A Hong Kong cop (Daniels) comes to L.A. and teams up with a local cop (McLeod) to bust a triad drug operation from H.K. They fail, and that leads to an hour of runaway story that eventually comes back to the predicatble, yet somewhat exciting, conclusion. We get to see memebrs of the triad throughout the film, bit scarcely at times, and you wonder when the bad guys will even show up again. The acting is actually somewhat decent, but as far as camera work and editing, they goofed on many action scenes, making things appear too rehearsed.
I thought Gary Daniels has actually had some better performances in movies such as White Tiger and Rage. His role here is decent, but a bit bland at times. Overall, this is enjoyable, but the movie may loose your interest in between the good stuff. It has its flaws, and comes out as an average martial arts film in the end.

- "Drunken Wu Tang", the greatest martial arts movie ever made! It's a rip-roaring tale of martial mayhem, as the Wu Tang clan find themselves employing every crazy stunt in the book in order to combat groin-munching monsters, handheld cluster bombs, giant pipe kung fu, and the spiky antics of porcupine back. Don't miss the Yuen Brothers in their greatest adventure ever. This is the tale of one "Old Devil", who was banished to the under world for some unknown and most likely insane reason, who is now back and on a quest to capture the "secret documents" and the only one who can stop him is one "Drunken Old Fool" who can't put down the bottle (or gourd) and drives around in a yellow rat mobile. There is no real plot or reason to this movie, but its total randomness and insane action scenes are the best to be found in any b rate kung fu movie. If you are into these types of films or if you just need a good laugh, this is the movie to see.
- I felt compelled to write this review after reading the comments of the guy below who was warning people not to buy this fine film, or get 'ripped off'. Come on folks, this is ten dollar celluloid with the title 'Drunken Wu-Tang'....anybody looking for Citizen Kane should've figured out this movie wasn't for them. Yes it has porcupine-man, a crotch-biting watermelon robot, an old woman who fights with a smoking pipe, and a drunken fool who drives a rat cart....but I'm supposed to think these are bad things?!?!? If I were stuck on a VCR equipped desert island with only this movie and 'The Story of Ricky' I think I'd be just fine, thank you.
- I don't know where these other reviews came from (they are identical to the ones for drunken wu tang though). This movie is NOT Drunken Wu Tang. I bought it under the impression that it was. Even IMDB says it is the same. It isn't don't be fooled. It doesn't even have the same actors in it!!!!!!! The IMDB web page is wrong! The info page on amazon is also wrong!
- This flick was just "o.k" I though,,,i know what this kid is capable of, but he did not deliver in this movie. However,,it does have some really great fight scenes,,,definately some old school performance!!
- Lee I Min stars as a young kung fu master in one of the best performances of his career. Simon Yuen teaches him from a young age and Lee I Min grows up to be an expert. He has no problem handling weak kung fu experts played by Lee Siu Ming and Lee Man Tai, but then he runs into Lung Tien Sheng, who is probably best known for playing The Rambler in Flag of Iron, and he was in a lot of other Venoms movies, and gives a great performance in this movie. So after Lee I Min loses he goes back to his master to learn more kung fu. Then he goes to defeat Lung Tien Sheng. So like I said you've seen this type of story plenty of times before, and there's nothing new here, except some good fights.
3.5/5 (this movie would get a 1/5 if it wasn't for the 2 fights between Lee I Min and Lung Tien Sheng)
Picture quality on the Groundzero DVD is decent, but most importantly it's letterboxed. The English dub sounds pretty good.
