1 comments about Pride Fighting Championship - Beasts from the East, Vol. 2.
- PRIDE or PRIDE Fighting Championships is the largest mixed martial arts organization in the world. It is based in Japan and currently promoted by Dream Stage Entertainment (DSE). Its inaugural event was held at the Tokyo Dome on October 11, 1997, promoted by Kakutougi Revolution Spirits (KRS). It is the most popular MMA organization in the world based on the number of event attendees: the PRIDE Final Conflict 2003 event had over 67,000 people in the audience. The audience record is 91,107 people on the PRIDE and K-1 co-production Shockwave/Dynamite, held in August 2002. It is considered to be the premiere MMA organization on the planet.
PRIDE 22: Beasts From The East was a smaller event that was pretty much a lead-up to the mega-show that was PRIDE 23. Taking place at the 12,000 seat Nagoya Rainbow Hall, DSE didn't set up any real high-profile fights for this show. With that said, some of the fights ended up being much better than originally expected, resulting in a quality event.
The show stealer in this event is the second-to-last fight between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Igor Vovchanchyn. Always one of the most entertaining and charismatic personalities in the fight game, Rampage doesn't disappoint with his performance. Look forward to a ton of crazy slams and suplexes in this one.
Overall, a decent show that surpassed my expectations. If you;ve got the money the spare, it's definitely a title worth picking up. If you're a fan of Quinton Jackson this is a must-own.

3 comments about Path Of The Dragon (Bruce Lee).
- this is a short (about 45 min) documentary of on the films of bruce lee. the production value is low and the content is merely ok. it's valuable only to the fan of bruce lee (it does give a good list of all his movies, not as many as you think). i bought it in a two pack with another Lee documentary, The Intercepting Fist, a documentary on the style of martial arts he created, and is a truly good documentary. If you can find the 2-pack, go for it, otherwise, i'd probably pass on this one.
- "Path" provides a very intelligent examination of how Bruce Lee
and the martial arts, in general, crossed cultural and racial barriers for positive impact. Thoughtfully narrated by the actor's daughter Shannon Lee, the documentary is highlighted by interviews of current luminaries in movies and martial arts such as Richard Norton and Jackie Chan. Commentaries on Lee are also provided by his "Enter the Dragon" co-star John Saxon, James Coburn and George Lazenby, a former James Bond. The historical origins of the martial arts, with vintage footage from Asian locations, are examined to lay the foundation for the bases of Lee's global success. Students and film fans alike will enjoy this remarkable hour that is, in equal parts, an enjoyable history lesson and a retrospective on the importance of Bruce Lee to film and to international popular culture.
- Excellent footage of the master, Bruce Lee and some footage I never seen before. So, for the bruce lee fan a must have...

2 comments about Ninja vs. Shaolin Guards.
- Now this movie is different than the movie called shaolin vs. ninja. I am reviewing the tai seng version.
Now I sure somebody out there has seen this because it has one of the coolest opening scenes ever. You may or may not know of eagle han (han ying). He did a lot of godfrey ho movies and even fought gordon liu in the finale in the wonderfully horrible "Shaolin Drunken Monk". But when he was under actual choreographers like the great Robert Tai, he is one of the best screen fighters that this world has ever seen! So it starts with eagle jumping on the ground and showign you right away what his legs can do. I won't try to describe what he does to you, but the best way to put it is-HIS LESG CANNOT BE REAL! I mean they are really short and stumpy but I am tellign ou that this guy is more limber than john liu AND hwagn jang lee. he can't kick as high as those guys(cause his legs are a foot and a half long), but I have to say that he is one of the ONLY guys in cinema history that you can tell right away he could whoop your booty in real life. His form is just incredible and I will try not to dwell on the legs. BUT I LOVE LEGWORK!
So the movie is really about as simple as you can get. It starts out really slow but manages to keep pickign up speed throughout the film until the finale comes around and i GAURANTEE you will not be dissapointed in the amount of AWESOMELY choreographed action.
Basically the whole movie you have a group of monks trying to get the golden sutra to tibet. IT MUST GET THERE! Luckily there isn't an army after them btu one BADASS dude who puts a character like "Legalos" to shame. He is a true mountaneer and is EASILY one of my new favorite characters in the movie. So there really is no plot and you have to wait a while, but I gaurantee that you will see ninja's and not the best finale ever, but the best fight in a movie with a TON of good ones.
Also, look for a cameo by robert tai, he has long black hair, a mustache, and is using a one sided spear. Just look for the guy with the biggest nose ever.
If the dvd was widscreened, I would have to giev it a 5. But some parts I hear peopel fighting and can't see anything:) Other than that, picture quality is fine, I just hate it when it is full screened.
- this movie got so much good raw kung fu action on it plus with great swordfighting. You will only see 2 scenes of ninjas on action so dont be expecting much about more ninja action. The only complaint i have is one of monk brothers who gets real cheesy that gets annoying but other than that if you could pass beyond him everything else fine. one of the highlights of this movie is when the monks fought againts an unknown group of masked warriors that brought a twist of the story....highly recommended for people who likes raw kung fu flicks....

4 comments about Capoeira 3 DVD Box Set.
-
First off any potential buyer should realized the dvds in this set are in a PAL format which is more common in western Europe and parts of north Africa. The U.S. uses dvd players that are NTSC formatted. I learned this information after purchasing the Capoeira 3 dvd box set. When I finally played it I was suprised (and a little annoyed) to realize that none of the three dvd disc would play on my panasonic dvd player which is only 3 years old. However, the dvds would play on the dvd on my macintosh computer. I did buy a more recent phillip dvd player for about $40 and it does play the dvds in PAL format. (Colors are not that great though and tends to make the screen flash like old computer screens.) Most new dvd players have this feature of playing both PAL and NTSC. Older models may not so check you dvd player's guide or look on the internet to see. If not you can spend $30 to $40 on a new dvd player.
With that said of the format I will focus on the content of the material of the dvds. This Capoeira dvd set consist of three dvd titles; `100% Regional,' `Rodas De Capoeira,' and `Basic Techniques of Capoeira.' Each of these titles are also sold separately and I have done a more in depth review on each of these titles on their own page on amazon.com. So search each of these dvd titles on amazon for those reviews. The DVD's are made by a French producer Christophe Diez (reason for the PAL format). The footage takes place between Brazil and France. I will say that each of the dvds are the best I have seen on capoeira. I also own other titles such as Advanced Capoeira with master Sergipe, Brazilian Style Fighting Capoeira 1, 2, and 3. These titles do not come close to the dvds sold in this package as footage and entertainment of watching goes. The producer of these titles has also produced two other capoeira dvd's that are not in the box set that are just as good, `Capoeira 100% Spectaular' and `100% Capoeira.' I also have a review on these two as well. Each of the dvds that Christophe Diez has produced has great camera angles and editing. The camera is not left on a tripod like other dvds on capoeira. The camera follows the action and held without tilting or bouncing. Because of the great editing and camera work I give this box set of capoeira a five star even if the format is PAL. If you are into capoeira and have been doing it for a few years and like the history, music and movement that this art offers you will enjoy this box set. I will also recommend the other two titles as will.
Here are all the titles I know of by this producer
100% Regional
Rodas De Capoeira
Basic Techniques of Capoeira
Capoeira 100% Spectaular
100% Capoeira
- I am a capoeira instructor and been around it for almost 6 years now, I've seen any dvd about capoeira this is surely one of the best around if not THE best. Try also the ones done by Capoeira Brazil (Mestre Paulão), they're quite good.

5 comments about The Circuit 2.
- Not to bad of a movie at all, however like many BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO EXCLUSIVE(R) titles, it is not exactly an award winning title, but it was very enjoyable, especially if you enjoy part one. Good acting by Oliver Grunier, I looked him up to see what other movies he has been in, mostly smaller BBE names.
- If you want to see the worst movie ever made, rent this movie. I've seen better acting in elemetary school plays. The plot has holes so big that you could fit the new planet Sedna through it. When the main character's girlfriend is attacked and beaten, we never find out her fate, and characters refer to her as dead AND in a coma. Come again?
Also, Michael Blanks, who was in the first movie, plays a different character in the sequel. Like viewers aren't going to pick up on this? Add to that a scene when prison guards open fire on innocent spectators for no reason. This movie has no brain. I had to review this movie for a DVD web site and I want the hour and a half of my wasted life back!!!
- As a fellow reviewer lamented, this is one bad movie. Olivier Gruner is passionless and boring. Gary Hudson as the bad prison guard is offed by a prisoner (I think)--editing problem # 1 out of several. Gail Harris as the girlfriend is in a coma, then someone tries to kill her, she's okay and next thing you know, she's dead??? Where did that come in?
Pointless, trite, definitely not worthy to inspire another sequel. Yuck!
- It had a lot action in it and I really enjoyed watching a good martial arts movie thank you.
- Overall, this sequal to the first Circuit movie falls a bit short to its predacessor, but for what it is - a prison fight movie - Circuit 2 is better than expected.
The main reason I dislike prison fight movies are the limits and confinements of a prison for the movie, with little exciting scenery. Most of the Circuit 2 takes place in a typical prison, with plenty of fights set up by the warden for its inmates, but eventually there is a tournement that expands later in the movie to a beach at night. I love this tournament, mainly because you can hear and see the ocean waves crashing in the background while some decent fights are going on, in front of a small audience. Just when you think the film has reached its final fight, more action continues and at dawn, the Olivier Gruner character and main villain fighter duel out in the ocean water for a few minutes. Its a pretty cool fight too.
Overall, Circuit 2 is not as exciting as the first in terms of story and development. There are more fights that the first, though, and Circuit 2 still delivers above average quailty for a B-grade movie.
