5 comments about The Ninja Hunter.
- Also known as Wu Tang & Ninja, this film stars Alexander Lo Rei as a young student of shaolin caught up in a plan set by The Wu Tang high Priest and a group of japanese ninja to take over Shaolin temple. Through Rigorous training he tones his skills to where he thinks he can match the Ninja. and if he is lucky enough to make it alive through that he still must fight the white haird priest. Can you guess where his weak point is?
A very good film. Lo rei shows off why he is considered one of the best fist fighters. Great Ninja tricks and fighting styles. An all around good film, and actually a little better quality to.
- This is a really fun movie. It is quite cheezy, 70's style kung fu with terrible dubbing but if you don't take it too seriously (the movie does not take itself seriously) you will really enjoy it. Hardly a minute passes without either some crazy kung fu action or some unbelievably bad acting, costumes, or hair to make you laugh. There is actually quite a bit of impressive movie style kung fu here, but the real joy of this movie is the campy old school attitude. Recommended, especially if you are going to watch with friends who also enjoy this sort of thing.
- Not that many movies, especailly martial art movies, that has a villian that takes two generations to defeat. basically the movie is about the villian, abbot white's,quest to destroy the shaolin temple. While doing so he sides himself with three japanese ninjas who control an army of ninjas. armed with iron skin & the ability to make people explode/implode just by pointing at them. attempts to destroy the temple. You have to see the method of which he maintains his iron skin. I could describe it but it's best for you to see
- Possibly the worst dubbing I've ever heard.. Although I must say the action is constant and throughout and the costumes are adequate however the actors names(Rocky & Willow) and their actions are enough to cause you to seek therapy. The climax(spoiler) oh soo stupid, consisting of a villian(who youv'e never seen) who for some reason does not know when he's won(but enjoys a good laugh!) and practically begs our dim heros to vanquish his azz. By the by this movie has nothing to do with Shoalin the cover clearly misdirection. Another strange Ocean Shores Joint!

They must have changed the picture, because the tai seng, martial arts theater release of sholin hero has mang fei, Leung kar-yan(beardy), and phillip ko in it.
I believe ninja hunter is the other name of the one with the long's and lo rei.
This one starts off with beardy(willow) saving a chick. And this girl likes beardy casue he saved her I guess. Well we find out this girl really loves mang fei, a master swordsman. Mang Fei(rocky) wandered off a while ago I guess. Now he has come back for his girl, even though we don't get a good explanation of why he left. So we find out there is a girl who has formed a secret society to destroy everything about willow(leung kar-yan). Why because when willow saved the girl at the start, she killed this one guys brother. Wait a minute, no, the girl just wants to destroy him. But phillip Ko comes on at the end to fight mang fei and willow becasue willow killed HIS brother. No set up to his character whatsoever, and only one kind of short scene(around 7 minute final fight), btu man I love phillip ko. I hd no idea he was so sweet with a sword. So obviously the story is non existant and too confusing for having a stupid freaking plot, but the fights are plentiful and GOOD. The death shots really suck but I think that a very competent choreographer must have done this movie. I can't remember the name of the guy who did hero, daggers, dragon inn, and the swordsman series, but he might at least of had a hand in this.
So all in all I have to say that it was really a HORRIBLE movie, btu the fights are surprisingly good, especially the one at the end with ko fei and his AWESOME sword. So if you don't like sword movies, you probably won't like this, but if you are a real kung fu fan you will find this good for at least one watch.
If anybody does actually know the real name of this, please tell me, I would really like to knwo who did the action choreography and the god awful directing job.

1 comments about The Rarescope Double Feature: The Chinese Godfather /Duel of Karate.
- CHINESE GODFATHER- Chan Wai Man falls in love with a woman played by Hu Chin, and she doublecrosses him. Not much of a story here, just a really boring movie. I was hoping the fights would save it, but they don't. None of the fights impressed me whatsoever. Even The Chinese Mack was way better than this, and it features most of the same cast.
1.5/5
Picture quality is decent and it's widescreen. English dubbed.
DUEL OF KARATE- bad action and story. I don't really know what else to say. It's from 1971, and it really shows. The only thing I liked about the movie was Doris Lung. Other than that there's a couple watchable fights, and a couple funny scenes where Yee Yuen flies like Superman.
1.5/5
Picture quality in the opening fight is extremely blurry, but after that it's decent. widescreen and English dubbed.
Out of all the Rarescope releases, this is the worst. Other ones to stay away from are King of Fists and Dollars, Cub Tiger From Kwangtung and Duel at the Supreme Gate. All of the other Rarescope releases are pretty good. They just came out with 10-pack that is basically a dollar per movie, and 7 of the movies are worth seeing. Highly recommended- Advantage: Flicks with Kicks

2 comments about Bruce Lee: Double Dragon.
- First of all you get the chinese connection and Fists of Fury with bruce lee; a good deal I suppose in itself. There is one the Blind Fist of Bruce(Bruce Li) and another, bruce lee the man the myth which is like a portrait of bruce lee starring bruce li, a pretty concentrated martial artist from others i've seen. Then there is this, ahhh hell with it i'm going to bed.
- this is not one of the better sets of kung-fu . look for some of the other set and they have these and there quality of transfer is much better than this mess here

2 comments about Jujitsu 2.
- This DVD is an excellent overview of true jujitsu. Both the grappling and striking sides of real jujitsu are taught from a combat perspective and not for sport. The techniques on this DVD are explained and demonstrated by the instructor with skill from a varity of angles making it east to learn if you have a good training partner and some basic martial arts skills.
- Because the instructor on this dvd (and it's companion volume 1) is a cop as well as a long-time jujitsu man, the instruction is combat oriented rather than sport style. There are some elements of sport style jujitsu but I liked the focus on more traditional teaching and the way you got both the offensive and defensive view of each technique. For most techniques, the instructor explains how to apply it then we get to hear from his partner about why the technique works and also how he would counter it. This is a really good teaching method and allows both training partners to work their skills, rather than one guy working on a technique and the other being the "crash test dummy". Excellent all around overview of jujitsu.

2 comments about Armed to the Teeth (Volume 2): Mastering Lower Body Weapons.
- I have both CFA products Armed to the Teeth 1 and 2, and two picks up right were 1 left off, and helps you hone the lower body weapons.
Most of us are aware or at least can guess a few natural body "weapons" (i.ei fists, knees) but Armed shows you all the weapons you have at your disposal that you didn't even know you had! What is great about this DVD is that it shows you how to implement them in a self-defense situation correctly. If you are someone who cares about safety from attack, get this DVD (and part 1 too). It has really helped me.
- In this dvd Mr. Franco continues to show the practical and efficient techniques that work in real world situations. The emphasis on street fighting gives the viewer a better idea of will work in a life threatening encounter than what most McDojos teach. This is particularly true in the area of kicking. Mr. Franco demonstrates the practical use of the side kick and more efficient variations of classical martial arts kicks. No snapping, spinning, or flying in this dvd.

3 comments about Secrets of the Bubishi.
- I own the famous book Bubishi, Martial Arts Spirit. Which is intriging but over my head in theory. This DVD clears it up for me by demonstrating and instructing to the viewer the power of pressure points, meridians, and much of the White Crane system. This is an awesome DVD.
- This is a very good presentation on what bubishi is all about. The material on pressure points is second to none. This is a must have for the serious martial artist.George Alexander has taken complicated priciples and made them easy to understand. This has been a great addition to my library, and I'm sure to anyone else who views it. This is a great dvd and is highly recommended.
- I was at times impressed by this DVD, but for the most part it was mid level quality in my opinion. Maybe to those who were never introduced to the concepts of Qin Na, Dian Mai (Dim Mak), ECT ... this DVD would be an eye opener. However if you have been, this DVD will be a bit boring.
Great try, but more detail is required on this one. The info is out there, but it's not presented in this DVD.
I'm adding to this review after further reasearch, and viewing of this DVD. I was nice the first I wrote in here, because to someone with a blank slate there are valuable tid bits to be picked up from this DVD. HOWEVER, there is NO theory behind this presentation. It's a bunch of info for "public" students. The bubishi has been translated into numberous languages, Pat McCarthy's is a great one in english. But reading the book won't give you the knowledge, this stuff isn't easy in the least ... and this DVD proves that point. There is very little in the way of actual technique in this DVD, and NO theory to back it up. The bubishi is a military guide, not just kicks and punches. I don't know if I was just really lucky growing up training, but the stuff on here is very elementry ... very.
Yours,
Hastings

5 comments about The Chinese Connection.
- The voices are dubed in and it is in a deep voice but there a some great fight seens but if you want to see a really good Bruce Lee movie get Enter the Dragon. The Chinese Connection is still a good movie
- I wanted to like this but in the behind the scenes interviews they show little respect for Bruce Lee and that got me started off on the wrong foot. Then I watch it and it just isn't that clever. I did laugh once or twice but i expected something more along the lines of What's Up Tiger Lilly. At least they could have had the actors play orientals. Too bad because this concept could have been funny.
- I love this movie and still think its Lee at his best. Between the scene of him as a very awkward phone repairman, and the scene where he takes on a horde of bad guys with Nunchucks, this is his most complete performance on screen to me and showed his talent at its best. This transfer is of a much better quality than most of the releases out there of this movie. If you ever wanted to see just how good and talented Bruce was, just watch this one and find out.
The story is standard for these movies but Lee bumps the action and the acting up to give this one it's true classic reputation.
- 1972's "The Chinese Connection" features a young Bruce Lee as the leading student at a King Fu Academy in 1908 Shanghai. The storyline is a simple tale of revenge, but in the context of a Shanghai dominated by Japanese and other outsiders, in which the natives are treated as second-class citizens, it resonated deeply with its original Chinese audience.
In the movie, Chen, played by Bruce Lee, returns to his academy to find that his beloved master, a famous martial artist, is dead. Chen is stricken with grief, but learns from his fellow students that his master's death may not have been an accident. Chen patiently but violently works his way back through the members of a rival Japanese school, looking for those responsible for the master's death. Highlights include a many-on-one fight at the school, which Chen wins decisively, and a confrontation with a Russian martial artist brought in to deal with Chen. Chen's willingness to stand up for his fellow Chinese forces the hand of the local authorities (including a police chief played by director Lo Wei), who are beholden to the Japanese. Cornered at the end, the gallant Chen will be left with only one option.
The original Chinese is dubbed over in English, unfortunately resulting in dialogue that sounds like it was lifted from a high school drama. Fortunately, the non-verbal qualities of the acting, including a touching performance by Nora Miao as Chen's love interest and some nicely choreographed fight sequences, carry the movie. "Chinese Connection" is a Raymond Chow production, and a better than average representative of the early martial arts genre.
This movie is highly recommended to fans of Bruce Lee and of the early martial arts movies.
- This movie (called Fist Of Fury overseas) was made before Enter The Dragon and, in my opinion, ranks just behind ETD! While all of Bruce's films and fight scenes are legendary, if this one or ETD is on TV, everything stops! LOL!
The plot, like ETD, is very basic. Bruce comes back to his martial arts school to find out his teacher was dead! Not only that, he suspects was murdered and goes on a rampage to avenge his death!
What's interesting is that even though the film is fiction, the teacher was actually a real life person. That character was recently shown in a film by Jet Li called "Fearless."
Back to the movie, what makes this special is Bruce himself. He was electrifying in every scene he was in. While I am still biased to Enter The Dragon, Chinese Connection ranks a close second in my view! Highly recommended!
