  1. UGH,

Horrible anime even by game anime standards. The dub is made worse by horrible American music that was stale when the orignal VHS was released.

The story is VERY Loose on the dealings between Kazyua and Heihachi. Yoshimitsu a Tekken Favorite gets like no screen time.

    Stay away stay far away

  2. I Bought the vhs for a buck and I want a refund.

It's possible that I saw the 'edited version', but I doubt more gore or nipples would make this anything other than a way to make a buck off impulsive fan-boys.

The animation, even for its time, is third rate, Saturday morning cartoons have delivered better plots, and Keanu Reeves has delivered better philosophical dialogue.

    Don't bother.

  3. This movie is awesome! Even though the storyline is different from the game, it's still pretty awesome. Everybody rocks in this movie, but Kazuya rocks even more better! The songs in the background is alright, but the ending song, "Meaning of Life", makes me wanna rock with it. I'm sure you're gonna love the ending song. You should get the album, Offspring, because there's a "Meaning of Life" song and other songs that you could like. You should get this movie and enjoy with it. Trust me, it's actionable and you'll never forget Tekken. I just wish that there's a Tekken 2 movie!

  4. This movie is totally awesome! Even though the storyline is different from the game, it's still pretty awesome. Everybody rocks in this movie, but Kazuya rocks even more better! The background songs are alright, but the ending song, "Meaning of Life", makes me wanna rock with it. I'm sure you'll love the ending song. I think this is one of the best Tekken anime movie that I ever watched! Trust me, once you buy it, you'll love it! I just wish there's a Tekken 2 movie!

  5. Jun Kazama watched as a little girl when Heihachi tossed his son Kazuya off a cliff. She is then sent to investigate Heihachi's criminal organization. Kazuya returns seeking revenge.

Hardly ever would I take shots at other reviewers. But I have to say anyone who gives this title anything above 2 stars. Are only trying to get rid of their copy. This anime is god awful, even for a video game turned anime.

Usually one should set their sights low for these titles. But Tekken doesn't even strive to appraoch mediocrity. The animation is atrocious and fighting scenes lack imagination.

This is not a hate review, more like a warning. If you value your cash at all. Stay away from Tekken. I only seen one anime movie worst then this. But Tekken is very bad still. 0 Stars!

  1. This movie is alright! but that is all, its not extordinary by any means! it has a couple of good fights. the shamrock fight only goes a little bit into the first round, the fight is pretty much one sided. there are apearances from, tito ortiz, bill goldberg, and chuck liddel, but they are not fighting. just being interviewed. i would only sudgest you buy this used. i payed only 6 bucks for mine, and it was worth it, but i wouldnt pay more then 10.

  1. This movie is for the true fan of the the classic Kung Fu movies. The fighting is sparse and none too impressive. The overall story is good but lacks much of the action to compete with the other classics. The premise of decapitating your foe is interesting at first but loses its luster quickly. Having to wait until the end of the movie for the big fight scene isn't worth it.

  2. It's true, it doesn't have quite the action and hand-to-hand of 'other classics' like, i.e., The Kid with The Golden Arm, but you have to own this title anyways, or you're just posing.
The movie is different from those 'other classics' in that it's hero is more of a 'real' person than the hero in those 'other classics'. He can't kick your head off, and he can't whip his ponytail through your torso (which _is_ a weak point of this movie, I'll grant you), but he loves his wife and son, he's a good, moral man who is deeply disturbed by the situation in which he finds himself.
This movie has extremely rapid plot development, and the viewer can feel how the young protagonist is swept up by the pace of developments - fueled by the impatience of the godlike Emperor. The Emperor summons you to his palace. Of course you go, dropping everything instantly, because this man can have your whole city burned if he had a bad bowel movement that morning.
Your new life is to live at the palace and study to master a new weapon. Should you manage to complete the ultra-demanding training, you will be the Emperor's Special Ops forces, used to kill traitors. It's a huge honor, involves major prestige to your whole family, and mondo cash.
During the blur of the intense training, you are awakened after even less sleep than usual, with a veritable parade of courtiers who convey the will of the Emperor: it's time to put that training to the test.
You hustle off in the middle of the night, and one of you kills the appointed target.
Later, at an interlude in the training, it becomes clear that the victim was a 'good guy'. It must have been a mistake, right? No way the Emperor could be wrong, right? It becomes clear that even such discussion amongst the troops reaches the ear of the Emperor, and paranoia mounts. Disobedience is instant death, the walls have ears, and there are jealousies and tensions as strong undercurrents threatening to destabilize an already tenuous position stressed by a power-mad Emperor.
Another mid-night mission, and the target is another 'good guy'. The fine, upstanding men recruited are morally at odds with the will of the Emperor, and cracks appear in their committment. The troops are divided along moral lines.
Now, one of the evil troopers receives a clandestine mission, and his target is one of the more vocal troops in opposition to the murder.
The pressure is intolerable, the situation explodes, and the hero breaks loose from the now hopelessly corrupt group.
He is hunted, but survives each encounter because he was the best of the group, and because he is helped by a woman who falls in love with him.
They mangage to avoid capture, but eventually are found, and the climactic battle ensues.

I loved this movie, although the score occasionally makes you long for deafness.
Watch it for the history behind the sequel (which is not really a sequel): The Master of the Flying Guillotine, which has none of the plot development, intrigue, or drama, but has the lethal ponytails and blitzkreig action.

    Two pillars of the art.

  3. you have to be kiding me this movie is way to long and has very little action. a much better guillotine movie is " fatal flying guillotine" buy that one instead and enjoy.

  4. Don't be fooled by the caption on the DVD box - "special wide screen edition "because it's full screen. An excellent Shaw Brothers early 70 movie, still has alot of action and is still very entertaining. However I feel conned because it's not wide screen as stated. This dvd must be the worst ever transfer from vhs.Eventhough it's a great movie, please wait for a better copy.

  5. It's a shame that these classic Martial Arts films are not given a more appropriate presentation. This film is one of the best of the Shaw Brothers Classic Action flicks. It started a series with Master of the Flying Guillotine coming soon after. It's true that this Hong Kong franchise was just another shameless money-making enterprise, but it's influence on mainstream American filmmaking cannot be denied. Culturally, these films carried an impressive blend of folktale and proletarian values that are very near to the Chinese way of thinking. The bloody revenge seeking working-class heroes personified a kind of wish-fulfilment on the part of the Hong Kong movie-goer. With the British controlling the Chinese Port it became a characteristic of the populace to want to see Justice doled out aginst the odds. What better weapon to fight the Industrialisation of the European infestation but the ancient Martial Arts. A weapon from distant, traditional, near mythic times fed nostalgia and fueled the desires of a movie-going public that wanted to excorcise the bloodied changes brought about by the Hybrid British Colonisers by reflecting it in their forms of entertainment. One of those weapons is THE FLYING GUILLOTINE!!!!!!!

  1. Sure to be a cult classic here in the states as it was in Europe. There's plenty of action and full breasted babes in action to keep you interested when the dialogue gets you laughing. Not to mention a mullet here or there. So, your best bet may be to watch it with the Joe Bob Briggs commentary track. A group of friends and I watched it together and Joe Bob's comments had us laughing our asses off. I guess there's no chance for a sequel since most of the cool characters die by hara-kiri, beheading, death by sword, fire or get shot off a roof. But our hero and his partner could always return..if there not in convalescent home by now. If you can't get your hands on the DVD don't despair, this film will surely show up on, "Dinner and a movie", or "Mystery Science 3000".

  3. This is quite simply one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen. By no means is it a good movie. It's a good movie to watch but only because it is so horrible. The dialogue, the production values, the acting, the music, the editing, you name it and it will make you laugh.

Joe "Samurai" Marshall is our main character. He's the martial arts using, fluent japanese speaker bushido warrior cop who is going to take down the Katana Gang. This guy sports one of the sweetest mullets you've ever seen and also spouts out some of the sleaziest/cheesiest lines you've ever heard. He also doesn't speak japanese a single time yet they say that he is fluent in it. Between him his partner and a very... promiscuous helicopter pilot they take the katana gang on.

I could go on and on... and on about this movie. Joe Marshall's big speech in the restaurant is so intense it's hilarious but if I keep going on then I won't leave much for the viewer to see for themselves. The commentary for the movie is also hilarious but the true experience for watching this movie is to see it in a big group. There is just so much to make fun of and you gotta do it with a few other people.

Definitely recommended and place it on your piano.

  4. This is a real find. "Samurai Cop" is one of the all-time greatest bad movies in history. There is no possible way to review this film from a serious standpoint. Amir Shervan wrote, produced, and directed this monstrosity, so I hold him chiefly accountable. The DVD has great extras including an introduction and commentary track by Joe Bob Briggs, who is in even better form than usual here, as well as an interview with Robert Z'Dar, who is apparently attempting to follow the path of jocularity and girth popularized by Marlon Brando.

The plot concerns an undercover cop played by Matt Hannon who is attempting to break up the horrifying Japanese Katana Gang, of which Robert Z'Dar is the chief enforcer. There are so many problems with the film that I have no idea where to start. Well, now that I think about it, I do: let's start with Matt Hannon's hair. I have never seen a mullet like this in all my life. For the first half of the film I was actually asking myself if he was wearing a woman's wig from the Jaclyn Smith collection. This full, flowing mane of hair is as much a character in the film as any other actor, and seems to simultaneously represent the Samurai Cop's masculinity and femininity. If you don't think that's possible, watch him kiss the girls; it's disgusting.

Aside from the hair issues, the film features all the idiotic characters and plot points you would expect from a grade-Z film: the angry police Captain, the goofy sidekick (who laughs inappropriately on numerous occasions), extremely attractive women in hard to believe situations, and absolutely horrendous dialogue which, while gratuitous, fails to further the plot. To illustrate this point I direct you specifically to the exchange on circumcision, and the constant refrain of "keep it warm" which you just need to see for yourself to grasp how stupid, yet un-sexy a statement it is.

There are some great monologues about good and evil from Samurai Cop (my favorite is in a restaurant where he contrasts the Katana Gang with honest, hardworking Japanese-Americans) and, of course, the obligatory fight scenes. These generally come down to gun play, knife play, and karate. In the gun fights, I am constantly amazed that people in a gun battle find the most exposed place possible to stand (the middle of a door; an open field) when firing. This contributes to the extremely high body count in the movie as everyone and their brother gets shot by the end. There area couple of knife episodes, including a very lame ritual suicide (remember, death before dishonor). And then there is the karate. This is by far the best part of the movie. The scenes are moderately well choreographed, but to make them appear more professional Shervan constantly speeds up the film so that the action goes way faster than would be possible. This is, I suppose, an attempt to improve the dynamic energy of the film, but in reality makes it look more like a cartoon. These karate scenes (and a couple of the high-speed sword fights) are delightfully hokey; do not turn away even for a second during them. Please also note the bacon grease torture. Truly a scene of restrained understatement.

Again, the commentary from Joe Bob is one of his very best pieces of work, and I recommend watching the movie first without it then with it. For a wonderful piece of mid-1980s junk cinema, "Samurai Cop" absolutely cannot be beat. I highly recommend this one to any and all lovers of bad movies.

    Keep it warm.

  5. For once, I just don't know where to start. I've attempted over and over to review this movie, but I just didn't do it justice, how do you describe the movie that has everything? An over the top 80s cop movie that takes itself just seriously enough to keep it from being a farce. It's like an unintentional absurdism.

Think of it this way. When a good song is being played, you notice if the player hits the wrong note a few times. But let's say the player plays all the wrong notes, it becomes a completely different song in another key. That my friends is Samurai Cop. Nothing works, it's nothing but mistakes, but it is so amazingly bad that you can't take your eyes off of it.

Take for example, the title of the movie, Samurai cop. You get the idea of a sword-wielding Japanese police-officer. What does this movie give you? A Chippendale's dancer with shoulder-length women's hair. What I mean by this is, when a guy has long hair, it still looks like guy's hair, usually. It looks like this guy is wearing a wig to be perfectly honest. Together with his trusty black sidekick Frank they fight against the Order of Katana, an totally brutal Japanese gang!

In order to give the bad guys a more menacing image, their overdubbed voices are usually treated to sound gravelly. Not to mention the film is sometimes sped up to create an illusion that the chase is going faster or to make the martial arts scenes more exciting.

Joe, the Samurai Cop, spends more time hitting on girls than he does hunting the Katana. The first of these gals is the sexy female police-gal Peggy. Right off the bat this film delivers some great footage of Peggy in her birthday suit. Let's just say she brings a whole new meaning to the word 'perky.'

Let's get to the jokes. The comedy of the Samurai Cop world. Lots of s-e-x jokes. But all of them are strange and come out of nowhere. Viddy:

Frank: The Captain is going to burn my axx.

Joe: Yeah, he'll burn it, jet black.

    Frank: It already is black.

    Joe: Right on.

    --------------
    Peggy: Hey Preacher.

    Preacher: Yeah?

Peggy:You and I got nothin' to do...Let's fxxxk.

    Preacher: Shut up!

    -------------------------------
    Frank crawls under a fence.

Joe: Why did you go under?

Frank: Cause I'm an undercover cop.
    --------------------------
    Here's a humdinger...

Nurse: Do you like what you see?

Joe: I love what I see.

Nurse: Would you like to touch what you see?

    Joe: Yes. Yes I would

Nurse:Would you like to go out with me?

    Joe: Uhhuh, yes I would.

Nurse:Would you like to fxxxk me?

Frank gives a silly wide-eyed reaction shot.

    Joe: *into her stethoscope* Bingo.

Nurse:Let's see what you got. *grope* Doesn't interest me.

Joe: What would interest you? Something the size of a jumbo jet?

    Frank reaction shot.

    Nurse: Have you been circumcised?

    Joe: Yes why?

Nurse: Well your doctor must have cut a large portion off.

Joe: I have enough. It's big.

yadda yadda yadda, you get the idea.

It's stuff like this over and over throughout the whole movie. I mean...lookit, it's like nobody that made this movie had any idea of what they where doing and even less about how the police actually solve crimes and do their jobs. Most of the plot of this movie involves them catching the Katana members but accidentally killing them! But they need a live Katana member to testify in court!

No matter what they do they can't bring in a live Katana member. At one point a mob henchman actually machineguns down the gang members to keep them from talking!

Things get worse. While the Katana gang is going around murdering and torturing the entire police office, Samurai Cop Joe is too busy boinging his latest interest to care. And *grimace, get this, at one point *grimace, he walks around in a bikini. Who thought this would be a good idea? Whatever respect you may have mustered up for the Samurai Cop quickly goes down the tubes.

The martial arts segments, beleive it or not, aren't that bad. They're not that good, but at least it looks like they actually know some real moves. It's got some great sword slashing and gun shooting as well. And it certainly delivers when it comes to showing us hot babes.

Yes, my friends, this movie has everything and you'll laugh all the way through. To make matters even better this DVD has a comedy commentary be THE Joe Bob Briggs. Joe Bob will have you cracking up, as if this movie wasn't funny enough on its own.

Don't take it from me, take it from Joe Bob Briggs: Buy and watch Samurai Cop!

  1. Hwang Jang Lee again plays the villian in this martial arts classic. Unreal Fights, and Some Very impressive styles showcased in this great flik. In one word, Intense!! A must have.

  2. I've got the World Video DVD version of this film. It's pan and scan, English dubbed, but the image is nice and clear. The only beef I have is the authoring was poorly done because the image freezes for a couple of seconds as the DVD switches chapters. Also, at about the half way mark, the chapter count resets to 1, which is strange.
If you've seen Hell'z Windstaff, which features both Meng Hoi and Hwang Jang Lee, than you'll get a good idea of the pacing of the fight coreography. It's nice and fast (not Jackie Chan 80's fast, but fast enough), and doesn't rely on undercranking. The story is pretty the usual Shaolin against Manchu fare. I didn't like the weapons fighting scene towards the end which had Lung Fei and some other guy up against the protagonist Meng Hoi - I thought it was too slow. But the finale is awesome. Also, there aren't as many fight scenes as Hell'z Windstaff, but there are enough to keep the viewer interested.
A great old school flick with great fight coreography that is real time rather than sped up or using frame cutting to speed up the fights. Meng Hoi is a very agile, acrobatic martial artist. Too bad he took a back seat in the 80's by doing coreography planning rather than acting and fighting.

  3. And in this fight I witnessed THE ALLTIME COOLEST KUNG FU STYLE I HAVE EVER SEEN.

So Hwang Jang Lee(Wong Cheng Li) stars as the 9th? prince. Can't remember what # he was but there weren't any other princes so it doesn't matter. Now if the final fight would have been your normal crappy fight, this would have gotten a 2/5. But since it freaking blew me away at the end, it easily gets it's four stars. Hoi mang saves the prince from an assasination early in the movie and this leads to many comic moments and then of course a mster training the student to become deadly enough to beat the super secret style that Hwang posesses. There is actually a lot more to this story, but just seems to drag on when they are trying to explain it. But the story will keep you into it since it is WAY better than a godfrey ho or thomas tang movie. So at the end of the film(luckily I was awake) it actually picks up a little bit. Hoi mang(grey haired kid with scar from hellz windstaff) puts on a true display of his awesome acrobatic abilities in his training sequence. His master isn't the greatest fighter. But please, please, please stick around for the final fight. Truly one of the coolest things I ever seen in cinema history.

The xenon wutang collection version is fine. Picture quality is a bit poorer than normal and fulscreened of course, but still very watchable. The bonus fight scenes have 2 good ones.

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME IF THEY KNOW OF A WIDESCREENED VERSION OF THIS ON VHS OR DVD? PLEASE ONLY PUT IT ON HERE IF YOU ACTUALLY HAVE VIEWED THAT VERSION AND NOT JUST HEARD ABOUT IT.

  1. Okay, there have been a lot of different DVD editions released, so be sure what you're getting.

The theatrical version ran about 88 minutes, has a rather comically censored audio track in one scene, and can rightfully (technically) be called "uncut." The "director's cut" runs about 93 minutes and does not have bleeps on the audio track in the scene in which Tinam's partner eats the penis. In-between is a version that includes some of the extra footage, but not all of it. (Some sapphic nuzzling between Sister Cindy and Kitty in the training sequence.)

Avoid at all costs the dubbed and censored FOX release. This version was heavily cut to get an R rating, which, of course, bites. Any version of 'Naked Killer' that skimps on the nakedness or the killing is to be vigorously spat upon. Shame on you guys! I'd like to hire Carrie Ng to explode your you-know-what.

I haven't seen any of the Tai Seng editions. I know that they have released an English dubbed version (yuck!) - but, if there's a widescreen Chinese version available, that might be the best you're going to find on Amazon right now.

Media Asia/Megastar's disc is pretty darn good, and I believe this is the director's cut! It has an uncensored audio track and quite a bit of footage that wasn't in the theatrical cut. If you can find it, this is the one to get. I believe Amazon has it, but the releasing company is mistakenly given as Tai Seng. Look for the title in large, yellow, vertical Chinese characters on the right hand side of the cover with a smaller English title just above that. I have read that this is out of print - so grab it if you see it!

Mei Ah's theatrical version disc sucks in terms of quality - but I'm keeping mine because it preserves the hilarious subtitles that were such a big part of the theatrical experience (when you can see them, anyway).

As for the film itself - If you haven't seen it thirty times already, what are you waiting for? This is the greatest of the killer-babe classics alongside Russ Meyer's immortal 'Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' (And, no, I'm not forgetting 'Kill Bill,' I just don't think it rates better than 'OK' when you've seen a lot of the kind of movies it was cribbing from - movies you have to get out and look hard for, because they aren't going to fall into your lap at your local multiplex.) This one consistently packed the house for a decade of return engagements in my area (sometimes at midnight, sometimes as the co-feature of such fare as 'Chinese Torture Chamber Story') before scoring a week-long engagement at the local art-house(?!) - so it is a tried and true crowd-pleaser. Highlights include a high-rise mini-holocaust that must be seen to be believed, all-girl action in a bloody swimming pool (okay, there was a guy in there, but he was dead and his unit had been removed), a cop who pukes every time he holds a gun, CARRIE NG(!!!), wall to wall sex and violence, amazing dialogue... I could go on and on. Suffice to say, if you like lots of action (both kinds) you won't feel cheated.

    A treasure.

  2. I rented "Naked Killer" after I read that it had been called the definitive Hong Kong action picture in some circles. While it certainly has the stuff to be in the top ten (car crashes, shootings, stunts galore), John Woo's "Hard Boiled" still tops the list for me. "Naked Killer" probably belongs in a genre all its own.

I didn't know what to expect from "Naked Killer"; the title, I have to say, is a much more apt description of the movie than I first suspected. There are certain aspects that are traditional fare, but then there are the beheadings, the icepicks shoved into crotches and the soft-core nookie scenes.

The plot (such as it is) concerns a feisty girl named Kitty (Chingmy Yau), who joins a group of lesbian assassins who come up with some rather creative ways of killing the men of Hong Kong. I'm still fuzzy on how they pick their victims (Are the men rapists? Criminals in general? Or - I shudder to think - are they targeted simply because they're men?), but such questions are kind of moot in cases like "Naked Killer". The point is the stuff, not the story, and there's plenty of stuff. The shoot-outs and chases are not quite on a par with John Woo, but they're immensely entertaining, more so than most of the lame flicks that pass for "thrillers" in the U.S. In addition, there are some absolutely grotesque sight gags, most of which would never have made it past American censors: kicking and stabbing of private parts, gory decapitations and one particular sequence involving a murdered victim's severed reproductive organ that simply has to be seen to be believed. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I've developed a real aversion to polish sausage since I saw this picture.

My personal favorite thing in the movie is Chingmy Yau, who is pretty much the sexiest thang I've ever seen in a movie. Forget Denise Richards, Jennifer Lopez, etc. All mere amateurs compared to Yau, a profoundly dazzling creature who sports beautiful, expressive eyes and lips that go on for days (Angelina Jolie would be green with envy). It also helps that Yau spends most of the movie wearing a variety of skimpy outfits. Call me a pig if you wish, but the heart wants what it wants. I'm usually given to awarding an extra star to a movie if I'm particularly impressed with a certain performer, and Yau has earned it.

So, should you see it? Yes, if you're not easily overcome by graphic violence and erotica of both the lesbian and straight varieties. It helps if you're already familiar with campy Hong Kong flicks and like your plots simple and your dialogue generously peppered with some real howlers (...). If you're offended by any of the elements I've mentioned, read this carefully: STAY AWAY FROM "NAKED KILLER" AT ALL COSTS. You may consider this a public service announcement.

And if Chingmy Yau ever decides to quit making movies, it'll be a sad day in the world of cinema.

  3. 1992 Hong Kong Erotic Thriller. Rated R for strong sexuality, violence and language. Caution: contains brief nudity (the opening credits), and the movie is very violent and bloody. Something of a romance. Also known as Chiklo gouyeung and Chi luo gao yang. The producer mentions a "Naked Weapon," saying that it had been intended as a sequel, but ended up a different movie with different actors and director.

DVD Features: Along with the movie, which can be heard in English or Cantonese, or read in English or Chinese, the DVD contains special features and trailers. There are seven trailers on the DVD (other than this film's trailers) and which include: Magnificent Warriors (rated R; war film, Japanese invade; stars Michelle Yeoh; trailer in English), City Hunter (PG-13; Jackie Chan film; other than humor and fighting, can't tell what the movie is about; trailer in English), Magnificent Butcher (PG-13; Sammo Hung; Action director: Yuen Woo Ping), Hong Kong 1941 (rated R; Chow Yung-Fat; Japan invades Hong Kong, resistance movie), Heart of Dragon (rated R; 30 yrs old, limited intelligence, "great detective" takes care of him; Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan), Kiss of the Dragon (rated R; Jet Li is a spy, also includes Bridget Fonda), and The Transporter (PG-13; in Euro-accented English). The Special Features include: this film's Trailers (two, an original (which has scenes in it I don't recognize being in the movie) and a new trailer (which is in English and doesn't have scenes in it I don't recognize)), Photo Galleries (two, one for the film (even the photo gallery has pictures of a scene not in the movie, maybe its my DVD, cutting out that type of thing for me), and one for the "beauties" of Hong Kong (very long slide show set to music)), Interviews (3 separate interviews with the producer (who speaks in English), director (in English; mentions nude scenes, seriously, what's wrong with my DVD, why do I only see nudity in the opening credits?), and one of the stars: Simon Yam (in English)), Promotional Materials (posters and still photos) and Production Notes (synopsis, cast and crew notes).

Credits: Starring: Chingmy Yau (Kitty; "Return to a Better Tomorrow"), Wai Yiu (Cindy; "The Flower Floating on the Sea"), Simon Yam (Tinam/Tom; "Once Upon A Time A Hero in China"; "Tomb Raider 2"), Carrie Ng (Princess; "Best of the Best"), and Madoka Sugawara (Baby). Written by: Wong Jing ("Naked Weapon") and Directed by: Clarence Fok Yiu Leung ("Century of the Dragon").

Plot: Hong Kong Detective Tinman (also known as Tom) is investigating a series of murders in Hong Kong that he believes are related and committed by a female assassin (he notes his suspicions but they are initially not believed to be likely, namely because his brother has been killed, and the nature of the deaths). Meanwhile, Tom has started a "relationship" with Kitty, a woman that is rather rough on the male population, and later revenges her father's death (which was pretty much an accident). Due to her actions, Kitty is now on the run from the police and organized crime, but is helped by a hit woman named Cindy (who teaches her how to become a better killer, using any weapon on hand or using her body). Cindy had another student before Kitty, and this student (Princess) and her female lover have targeted Cindy and Kitty for death.

Review: Interesting opening credits, and it certainly says something about the rest of the film that it includes nudity (though the fact that the first scene involves a naked hit woman taking out a man, but without anything "good" visible, also says something). A rather professional looking movie, but the dubbing is not the best (though, oddly enough, unlike some Asian movies I've seen, the spoken words and the written words actually match, for the most part). Though having the hit women twirl her loaded gun is strange and not professional looking.

A rather interesting and good movie, that is actually erotic, unlike many of the "erotic thrillers" out there. Oh, and it also appears to be an overall better film than most "erotic thrillers." On the other hand, there is a lot less nudity than I would expect (for the most part, none, the opening credits lie; maybe the US version of the film had the nudity edited out).

The movie has a connection with movies like "House of Flying Daggers," and "Romeo and Juliet," in that all three movies involve people who become romantically linked but work (or are otherwise members of) for different factions in a feud (here, criminal/police).

The plot is kind of rambling along, almost seeming to have little point. The acting is difficult to determine due to the nature of the dubbing and my not speaking the language the film was originally filmed in. Despite that handicap, I believe that the acting was good (every actor; I hadn't seen any of these actors before and I am interested in catching some more of their films). Overall, I would rate the film 4.22 stars.

  4. Rent don't buy. There are some truly sick scenes that I thoroughly enjoyed, but they were few and far between.

  5. "Naked Killer" is an outrageously trashy yet derivative Hong Kong action-thriller for the "Basic Instinct" crowd. The movie has its legion of admirers, but this sort of kinetic mayhem was better served by filmmakers such as John Woo and Tsui Hark. Caveat emptor!
