  1. burt and friends are back again, and i want to know why! i was given these two movies by a coworker andwhile i thank him for the gift,i don't have the heart to tell him what a piece of junk these two movies are.
the "PLOT" such as it is,burt and friends drive fast, fight, drink, drive fast somemore, wreck some cars, and thats it! the race comes at the end as a cartoon, i kid you not. the much talked about frank santara scenes were shot withy frank only and then cut into the movie, and it shows badly.
not one laugh or even chuckle to be found in this mess.the large list of "guest stars" looks great till you notice that these same stars were on love boat every other week till it was droped from the line up.
movies like this is what sent burt into a tailspin in the 80's.

  2. If you loved the first Cannonball then you'll love the second; in fact if you liked the "Smokey and the Bandit" movies then you like "Cannonball."

In my humble opinion, this is a good movie, not a great movie. One that you can watch over and over again, but won't neccessarly be your first choice when picking one out.

If you're a fan or this era of movie or Burt Reynolds then you should get this movie.

  3. Justly forgotten, "Cannonball Run II" (1984) is a glorified home movie that displays its all-star cast in a spectacularly poor light. Production values are nonexistent and the anticipated Rat Pack reunion (with Frank Sinatra barely showing up) falls woefully flat. After sinking to the depths of "Stroker Ace," Burt Reynolds and director Hal Needham end their screen partnership on a truly wretched note.

  4. I echo the most recent review before this one--one of the worst movies ever made! Unlike the previous reviewer, I in fact love the first Cannonball Run movie. Sure, not the one of the greatest movies ever, but at least the first Cannonball was funny and had a certain charm to it. The sequel? Gag! Not funny at all, the writing is horrible, the scenes are haphazard and disonnected--an umitigated disaster. An amazing lineup of actors, but I'm sure most of them will hang their head in shame when anyone reminds them that they were a part of this movie. Some of the lesser-level actors whose acting ability was never stellar turn in some of the worst acting ever in this movie. Even the bloopers during the end credits aren't funny, although in the first movie they were. The first movie end credits' bloopers gave me the impression that the stars of the first Cannonball had a blast making the first movie, but I'm sure they were embarassed about the sequel. NOT RECOMMENDED.

  5. I actually liked the first Cannonball Run - it was trashy but fun. This movie is no fun.

5 comments about Jackie Chan's Who Am I?.
  1. As many reviewers have pointed out before me, the plot in this film is fairly thin. There are some good guys, some bad guys, some really bad guys, and then there is Jackie Chan, who've forgotten everything.

The action, however, is phaenomenal. Once again Chan is pushing the outside of the envelope with his death defying stunts and splendid martial arts choreography including everything you can think of. Even clogs. The final fight, as has been said before, is a thing you'll want to see again and again. It is amazing.

There are some really tell tale signs, that this is a JC movie (apart from the action stuff). There is the obvious humour, the rather sketchy caricatures of good/bad people, and the fact that although he is a commando/trained killer he is goodness himself. A thoroughly joyful film to watch this one.

  2. I thought Who Am I? would be a great Jackie Chan film just like all the rest. I must say that most of Jackie's films usually do not have an appealing plot at times. But I felt that Jackie Chan slacked of in this film. He did two good scenes and that was the fight scene he has with the two goons in the roof top and when he slides down from one part of the building. As a fan of Jackie's films i felt that this is by far the worst of his craft. I feel that the "Tuxedo" is a better film than this. The horrible cgi graphics to the horrible fight scene with the main villian (There is one instant where you obviously see the difference of the actor and a stuntman.) if you're interested in taking a look i suggest renting it.

  3. I normally do not enjoy this gene. But this movie has the right combination of comedy and continuous action. It is not sophisticated. It is just great entertainment.

  4. This film is amazing! Some of the stunts in here make you wonder is Jackie is even human. My favorite Jackie Chan film by far.

  5. there is not one decent actor in this film, oher than chan. without him it would be a zero star. it was as if they were freshman in some acting school, well even if so, any decent teacher would have flunked them one and all. perhaps having such hjorrid actors makes chan look good...well good is relative, and saying he was good here, is being more than generous.

as it is the plot is vitually non-existant, one fight scene was agonizingly long; taken place on the roof - if only they had actually jumped and saved us all from boredom.

it was hard to figure out just what the nature of the film was...perhaps a comedy, but who knows.

save your money, there are better chan films.

how nice for the studios to have those with such low thresholds of being entertained...at least on this review there are a few others who see this film for what it is...the others will be happy watching inane films by inane actors.

  1. Very underated Jackie movie. It is funny and has great action. (Nothing much else to say, I just wanted to put in my 5 stars worth.)

  2. A great movie for fans of both Jackie Chan & Owen Wilson. Really funny and full of action.

  3. It's not as funny as Shanghai Noon. You can see it's obviously a spin-off of Shanghai Noon. That effort fails completely.

If you like Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson you still want to watch this.

  4. As an old Jackie Chan fan I was of course pleased to see him finally make his breakthrough in Hollywood with "Rush Hour" and "Shanghai Noon" some years ago, and I think highly of both movies.

But whereas the Rush Hour franchise has run on for too long, the tale of the two accidental western heroes is (as of yet) unspoiled. "Shanghai Knights" is funny, well produced, well acted, well actionpacked, generally well made, and, in my opinion, better than its predecessor "Shanghai Noon".

The jokes work, the action works, the plot works. In short: it works.

    Highly recommendable.

  5. While I'm not saying the movie is forgettable, I am saying that I did forget having seen it until I re-watched it today. Now I remember good portions of it from before.

In all it's a comedy / martial arts piece with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. It's a worthy sequel to the original. Plenty more action, comedy and loose women, so-to-speak. The pillow fight seemed completely extraneous, and yet quite amusing. Though, it was apparently the most dangerous scene in the movie on account of the feathers being inhaled and not wanting to come out... Weird!

The picture quality's great. The sound track is good. Actually the soundtrack is kind of weird, and yet rather amusing at several point if only for the choice of songs...

Yup, I'm still a Jackie Chan fan after this movie. In fact, the Shanghai Noon / Shanghai Knights and Rush Hour series are some of his better movies. The Myth and The Forbidden Kingdom are damn good too.

5 comments about Police Story 2 (Special Collector's Edition).
  1. Jackie Chan is one of the best martial artist and stuntmaster. In this movie, i think he put everything he has to show how good he is and how well the stunts and the fight scenes are. Talking about fight scenes, they blow me away. They are execute with precision and power. I really like this movie and it's one of the best martial arts movie.

  2. Police Story 2 follows the first film in many aspects, characters, tone, romance, and comedy, but what it leaves out is most of the fantastic fights and great stunts (although in typical fashion the finale is something to behold!). Most of the same cast is back and it's always fun watching Jackie Chan and Maggie Cheung hamming it up as a dysfunctional yet loving couple. The villians are as despicable as you would expect a group of terrorist bombers to be and you'll definately be looking forward to them getting there heads kicked in by the end. All that being said, sequels are suppossed to up the ante and be bigger and better... that doesn't happen here, but how could it? The first film is a masterpiece while this is merely good (I feel the same about The Drunken Master and it's sequel). Fans of the usual American action films should be blown away... but for those already familiar with Hong Kong film-making this is an enjoyable movie, just don't go in expecting anything too special.

  3. The first Police Story is arguably one of Jackie Chan's finest pieces of work, containing everything a good Jackie Chan film should have and then some. Though an improved sequal is just about impossible with a film of such calibur, Police Story 2 ends up being about as good as a sequal can get. Though the story is not as tight this time around, and I honestly felt a little bored about 2/3 through the film, there was still enough humor, action, and fun characters that made this all worthwhile.

Most of the same characers from the first film return, and then there is a new group of guys who basically bomb public buildings for ransome. Jackie Chan begins the film fighting off his old enemies from the first film, and eventually deals with the new guys, who make you wonder if they have some connection to the other goons. The plot was pretty engaging at first, but eventually slowed down until an explosive finale that is worth the wait.

Poilce Story 2 contains some of the most memorable action fight scenes from a Chan movie in my opinion. There are 3 that really stuck out - the restaurant near the beginning, the playground fight at night, and the 8 minute spectacular final fight in the warehouse. What I like a lot about the action, is not only that there is some serious choreography going on, but Jackie takes hits and gets hurt - he is not invincible. If you stick around for the end credits & blooper reel, you can clearly see that a lot of injuries took place on the sets of this film.

Dragon Dynasty was very smart to bring Police Story 1 & 2 to dvd. For years it was only availbale on vhs, and not the easiest film to get your hands on. The original dubbed voices, if you are used to them, are gone in the Dragon Dynasty versions. Not that it really matters too much, but I actually enjoyed the original dubbed voices that gave the movie a less serious feel than the newer voices. In the end, this movie just rocks. Its definetly in the better half of the Chan movies out there and is an excellent sequal to a great film.

  4. I was pretty disappointed with this sequel. I know usually the second movie is not as good as the first, but I still couldn't help but look forward to this one, only to be let down. It seems Jackie Chan focused a lot more on story and humor, and there isn't that much action. Mind you, the action that is there is good, but you can't help but think it could have been so much more. To me, this movie is throwaway and forgettable. It just made me want to go watch the first again...

  5. Jackie is the man this is a great one, also get police story new police story and super cop all great movies

  1. I bought this for a family member who loves martial arts.i dont know if i got right disks or not.but he says alot of them are not even martial arts movies and alot of porn like stuff on them.he didnt even open the other 20 one i got cause he was so unhappy with the other 50 one.they shouldnt call it a martial arts collectio if there isnt much of that on there and all the porn.i wouldnt buy it use money for something else.

  2. since buying this product i've been immersed in nostalgia and thinking ...Why isn't there a Kung-Fu Channel some movies were better than others in addition to the quality and some were'nt strictly in the genre but i would recommend it to people who appreciate what Kung-FU movies of a bygone era represented!

  3. I bought this for my dad who loves martial arts movies, but he was not happy with it. He is a huge Bruce Lee fan, so maybe he would have preferred only Bruce Lee movies. I know nothing of this genre, but he said the movies were with little known actors and he wasn't too inspired by it's content in the way that he is after watching Bruce Lee movies.

  4. I was a tad disappointed at the NON karate movies included in this bundle of movies. At least 1/2 we just action movies. I would recommend that people buy single movie discs instead of this bundle.

  5. The package was well presented and the dvds well organized. All the movies are old movies but they were trasfered with quality to the dvds.

  1. Jackie says he'd had the idea for this movie for years. I think it wasn't until he came to the US that he could do it justice. Yeah, Jackie's biggest fans usually prefer his Hong Kong films, but you gotta admit that this is a movie that would've been hard to make in Asia.

Jackie's sidekick in Shanghai Noon is a great comedian. He has a look and a voice quality that is very unique. Perfect casting for the part. The jail house scene between the two is priceless.

I also really like the music right from the beginning. The music sets the mood and really supports the action.

The settings are also quite interesting. The Forbidden City scenes, though brief are really cool (I'd like to know where they really filmed that), and the outdoor mountain scenes are inspiring.

    Two thumbs up!

  2. The DVD was a gift for my sister and the first DVD sent to her was defective. Half way through playing, it stopped and went back to the beginning. I contacted Amazon and the DVD was replaced free of charge. I was very very pleased with how the whole thing was handled. Amazon even reimbursed me for the shipping I paid to return the first DVD. The second DVD plays fine and my sister is very pleased. Thank You Again

  3. Funny with great action scenes. I know its weird to slash this but they get into a tub naked together, how could I not?! ^_^; Not many fics but their good.

  4. Very fast service. I order the movie 4 days before my daughter's birthday, and got it well in advance. I was pleasantly surprised. And, of course, she loves the movie.

  5. For some reason, I had an image of a really cheesy, cornball movie that was so-so. But I may have been thinking of Wild Wild West and/or Blazing Saddles.

I love Jackie Chan movies. This one doesn't disappoint! It's full of great action scenes, several doses of humor, and lots of Jackie goodness!

I liked it considerably more than The Medallion, which I watched a couple nights ago (at least decent fare in its own right). Now I really want to see Shanghai Knights and see if it's as good as the original.

I'd certainly rate this a "buy" if you're into Jackie, and maybe even if you're not. Good art direction, costuming, etc. Well choreographed fights. Etc. Good stuff!

  1. OK to let the kids sit in & watch with everyone
Funniest of the 3 Rush Hours

  2. I really love Rush Hour movies. Ever since I saw the first one, I was intrigued and decided to get the second one. Very nice movie, has some classic chases and fights! lots of action and fun! and there's no better way to enjoy than watching it in the great quality the DVD brings.

  3. Brett Ratner really should have left Rush Hour a stand-alone show. Rush Hour 2 is pretty overblown and it's even annoying enough at times to make one visibly wince. The writers had Tucker go from funny & clever in the first one to downright annoying and obnoxious in this sequel. Some of the sequences were entertaining however, mainly the fight choreography, and the 2 high-powered women (Sanchez and Zhang) help make the movie more interesting, but overall the film falls flat on plot and buddy cop chemistry. 2 stars for introducing some new elements in the Rush Hour saga but failing to deliver in enjoyment value.

  4. This was a stupid film. It is not funny, it is not entertaining, it is garbage. No wonder X-Men; The Last Stand was stupid.

  5. This movie surpasses the first movie and has the perfect blend of action and comedy. A highly recommended buy that is re-watchable.

  1. this is one of the best movies but its rated pg 13 not r i own this movie and
    it says pg 13

  2. Jackie Chan plays a talented young kung-fu artist whose overconfidence and disrespect results in his tutelage under the sadistic master of drunken kung-fu. He improves his style, becomes a better person, and defeats a villainous assassin who has been sent to kill his father. There is really nothing to recommend in this ultra low-budget film other than the excellent work of the kung-fu fighters and Jackie Chan's charisma, but that's plenty. You'll have to endure the creaky, clichéd plot at time, but never fear--there's always another fight coming.

  3. A high school student recommended I check out this dvd to learn a little bit more about Kung Fu. I'm glad I did.
As a dance teacher, I enjoyed Jackie Chan's and the other performers' technical skill, strength, style, humor, beauty of motion, and the similarity between this martial art form and dance.

  4. I won't sit here, lie and say that Drunken Master is one of my favorite fu flicks or the best ever just to please the masses. I see several that I find alot better. But it is a very entertaining watch and I encourage anyone who considers themselves fans of Jackie to check this out. Drunken Master combines a nice blend of action and comedy.

The film is blessed with some pretty good, well choreographed fights. And the writing is alot better than people give it credit for. This isn't just a mindless action fest. The fights happen for a reason and everything lead to something. Jackie gave a very good performace but what brings me back to this film is his opponent Thunderfoot. This guy works his legs like a magician. The very few fights he's in are spectacular.

The thing I like about this film the most is the final battle. Even though Jackie learned a very dangerous style. The final battle wasn't one sided at all. This could have easily ruined the whole film for me.

The biggest problem that I have with this film is that Jackie never matures. He stays the same hothead that doesn't take much seriously. A little character development never hurt anything. Still this is a pretty good fu flick that I'm glad to keep around.

  5. ALOT of martial arts action a fight like every 3 minutes it has a good story line and jackie chan will always be known as the drunken master

  1. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan are great in the movie. It will keep you laughing all the way through the movie.

  2. The original "Rush Hour" remains one of my favorite movies of all time. Jackie and Chris have great on screen chemistry, and the fights are absolutely classic. The film also has fantastic stunts, a wonderful plot, and a great score by Lalo Schifrin. If you love Jackie, and want to see one of his best american films, look no further.
"War, huh. What is it good for, absolutely no-thing!"

  3. this is a pretty good movie.it's an action adventure comedy.there is a
lot of action and the movie is fast paced.there isn't a lot of
    comedy,but comedy bits there are,are pretty funny.Jackie Chan's
acrobatic, over the top cartoonish martial arts moves are funny.Chris
Tucker's motor mouth character is pretty funny at times.also the
teaming of Chan and Tucker is a great idea.they work well off each
other.one could not be more opposite from the other.i liked their back
and forth banter.the other thing i like about this movie is that even
though there is some violence,it's not excessive, and there is a bit of
    coarse language,but not very much.for me,Rush Hour is a 3.5/5

  4. I love this movie, and ever since I last saw it in VHS I wanted to have it in a better quality. This was the right choice. I really like it, and I can't stop having fun every time I see it. I don't get tired of it. For me, it's a classic movie with lots of action and lots of fun.

I really recommend this movie for any Jackie fan!

  5. Rush Hour is one of those movies I could watch over and over again and enjoy it each and every single time. The chemistry between Chan and Tucker is superb (Lethal Weapon-quality) and even though the plot is a bit trite, the overall movement and fun of the film keeps it going. An easy 5 stars for me.

5 comments about Jackie Chan's Police Story (Special Collector's Edition).
  1. French film-maker Jean-Luc Godard once said that the best criticism of one film is to make another. Jackie Chan was so dissatisfied with his experience on the cop drama The Protector, his second staring lead in an American film that he decided to make his own Police Story under his underused vanity label Golden Ways Films Ltd. In Hong Kong, he would have much more control over script, stunt coordination and direction (he made sure he would direct this film) that if he was going to flounder it would be on his terms. The result of his efforts is one of my favorite action films as well as Jackie's personal favorite amongst his modern fare.

Jackie Chan plays Chan Ka Kui a model Hong Kong cop who gets involved in a police procedural code named Operation Boar Hunt to take down a triad led by Chu Tu (prolific director/actor Chor Yuen). This operation begins in a shanty town specifically built for the film. The detail is extraordinary in the design and like everything created for an action film it is short-lived. In one of the most awesome car chases I have ever witnessed on screen (up there with Bullitt and The Blue's Brother's mall scene) Chu Tu after being cornered by the police decide to drive through the hovels instead of being captured and Chan decides to chase after. The juxtaposition of having the camera in the vehicle and long shots in which stuntmen are scurrying to avoid being hit (several stuntmen were injured in this scene) are sagacious in displaying the maelstrom of destruction. That and it's pretty damn cool.

Most films would have given a respite after that tumultuous scene of car and house derby but as soon as Chan finishes the car chase he goes into foot mode while running after a double-decker bus that Chu Tu and a few of his cronies hijacked. In several of these scenes as he catches up to the bus he is literally hanging by an umbrella as he holds unto the outside of the bus trying to climb his way in while fighting people who do not want him aboard as well as dodging traffic as the bus speeds along. Two of the stuntmen got hurt at the end of this scene where Ka Kui forces the bus to stop and as they flew out of the top windows they were supposed to land on top of the car that was stopped in the middle of the road but the backward momentum of the brakes as the bus rocked backward after stopping made them undershoot the stunt and land on the road.

Police Story has a stronger storyline than most Chan movies to connect the action scenes. After the arrest of Chu Tu, Inspector Li sets up his secretary Selina Fong (Brigitte Lin Ching-Hsia) by letting her go free of all charges to try to pit her against her boss. Ka Kui is assigned to protect her (several scenes of this scenario were cut out of the film). This, of course, will interfere and cause problems with his girlfriend May (Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk whose relationship with Jackie is underplayed though that would change in the sequel). Chan tries to trick Selina into trusting him by pretending to save the day when Mars attacks Selina in her apartment. What ultimately happens because of this is predictable as well as the cop working for the triad but these are mere trifles.

The comedy is underrated in this film. There is a great sequence in which Jackie is assigned to the Sha Tau Kok Police Station, a rural area in the north eastern corner of Hong Kong, after he completely messes up the prosecution of Chu Tu. He deftly tries to answer several phones and juggle several conversations at the same time while not being really successful in solving any of them. Like Project A, his influence by silent film comedians is shown in how he performs this skit with physical perfection. This scene is so sublime I cannot fathom why this was missing in older American prints. I also enjoyed a nice little scene where Jackie does this beautiful car-slide stunt by doing the ultimate parallel parking literary by sliding the car parallel into a spot barely bigger than the car.

Another highlight of this film is the final sequence named "glass story" by the stuntmen. It takes place in a mall where Jackie has cornered Chu Tu and his cronies. It is 10 minutes of excellent martial arts, stunts and action. Some of the highlights is some great fights by Jackie with clothes racks, Brigitte Lin doing her own fighting, Chan doing a great jump into moving stairs, lots and lots of broken glass and the famous multi-story slide down a pole. Jackie severely burnt his hands on his slide down, partially attributed to the wrong voltage being set on the lights attached to it and it is also mentioned on several web sites and his own autobiography that he injured his spine and hip on that drop. This is a bit doubtful because on a camera with an alternate angle from the floor (shown in certain deleted footage) shows him bouncing up after the fall and slugging a stuntman (and according to Fung Hak-On hurting him). If you have ever had a back injury (I have several times) you usually do not do get up after it happens or beat up your stuntmen.

This movie not only influenced the Hong Kong action picture, it would also influence American action pictures. Sylvester Stallone would use the bus scene in Tango and Cash, several early scenes were copied in Rapid Fire, Brett Ratner took so much from this film in making Rush Hour (self-admitted in commentary in Rush Hour as well as Dragon Dynasty's Police Story DVD) and countless other action choreographers and directors would be directly or indirectly affected by this work. This movie was created because of the visionary ideas of Jackie Chan and also because of the backbreaking effort of Sing Ga Ban - Jackie Chan's Stuntman Association and their every increasing effort to out due rival stuntman association led by Sammo Hung. Their backbreaking effort helped make this a hit (26 million HK dollars and win the Best Film for the Hong Kong Film Awards) and became the favorite of action auteur directors everywhere.

DVD Notes: I was happy to get a R1 version of this film when Dragon Dynasty put out the DVD. The quality of the picture could be better (Police Story 2 has a much better print) but overall I am satisfied with it. The commentary with Hong Kong action movie expert Bey Logan and director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) was decent with Logan pointing out small tidbits of information like how Sammo Hung asked Bill Tung for horse advice during shooting, pointing out the cameo by Clarence Ford (Naked Killer) as the photographer and also pointing out who every person acting was (sometimes this got annoying). I did wish he would have put more info about one of my favorite actors Fung Hak-On who helped with the stunt choreography and played Danny Chu. Ratner would talk about how this movie influenced him and occasionally get his facts wrong (confuse Brigitte Lin with Maggie Cheung) and was completely ignorant about many Jackie Chan films (Winners and Sinners and every other early Jackie Chan film except Drunken Master) but was still decent to listen to.

  2. it has lot of action never a dull minute. if u have missed seeing police story 1, u need to see it too.. police story 2 is an excellent choice for your jackie chan collection.his movies keep u on the edge of your seat.

  3. At least once, although after seeing it... once is never enough! So this is the action/martial arts hybrid movie that has set the gold standard for all the others to come. Many have tried to duplicate it and few have rarely even come close(even it's sequels pale in comparison). Jackie stars and directs masterfully pushing the limits of exciting camera work and of course action and stunts. There are plenty of scenes here worth mention but I think it's best to go in without any forewarning of what's to come. Dragon Dynasty has put out another great DVD(although the picture is a little grainy) with some fantastic bonus features. One of Jackie Chans finest moments, and in a career full of them, this is a can't miss.

  4. This is one of Jackie Chan's Classic movie and one of the best. This is the movie that put Jackie on the world best stunt artist. A most buy and a most see. Enjoy

  5. This is one of the best JC movies in history. Some, such as Brett Ratner who in on the DVD bonus footage, say if you only see one JC movie, this is the one to see. It may well be his best, but I enjoyed so many of his earlier movies it's hard to pick a favorite. I might pick Armour of God as the best ever (marketed as Operation Condor 2 in the US). Not much to add that hasn't been said by everyone else. I would say that you must understand this movie was made in Cantonese (so you can expect bad dubbing) and a handful of jokes may seem inappropriate to US audiences. But it's a great, raw, movie with real stunts that put JC's neck on the line. Of course he was injured in this movie, but he almost died filming Armour of God if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, I'm still a fan of JC, though I wish he had not become commercialized In the US. After the Rush Hour movies he did something I wish he never would have done. He did movies using WIRES!!! Such as in The Tuxedo for example (which was also just a ridiculous movie). That's why I don't like Jet Li. Jet Li is nothing without his fake wire stunts. JC I always admired because there were no wires - just real stunts and real danger. When he started doing movies with wires, that's when I became less of a fan. But I still think JC is THE MAN.
