  1. Teen actor, Chris Olivero, and Hollywood legend, Richard Crenna, deliver outstanding and believable performances in this coming of age movie about a bratty, California kid, Mike Lewis (Olivero), who is shipped off to visit his grandfather, Ben Maxwell (Crenna), in Colorado. While there, the argumentative and often smart-aleck Lewis, stirs up enough trouble for the town and his kindhearted grandfather. After several confrontations, the disrespectful grandson decides he wants to return to his spoiled lifestyle in Los Angeles. His grandfather agrees, but decides the two will travel to California by way of horseback. A disgruntled Lewis, tries his hardest to come up with every excuse to avoid the trek to the Pacific coast, but finds himself on the losing end of the battle. Shortly after their journey begins, they meet up with a group of Ben Maxwell's longtime friends, who together, take Maxwell's grandson on the journey of a lifetime by exposing him to down-to-earth western values and hard-working morals. After many trials along the trail, lessons are learned and Lewis and his grandfather discover something about each other they never expected. The film is laced with thought-provoking topics, incredible chemistry, outstanding performances, and certainly the greater values in life that founded our nation. Just short of Oscar caliber for Crenna, this film is highly recommended for all! A great film with good, clean humor, and patriotic family values!

  2. This is the most wonderful movie for all ages. Very good acting and storyline. A must see!

  1. This is a wonderful movie if you are interested in seeing a different side of Lucille Ball. She is absolutely wonderful, yet there is not a single thing funny about her character. She is cold, mean, and stubborn...but Lucy potrays the character brilliantly. you can truly see her talent as a dramatic actress in this movie. It's a tear jerker and a must for all Lucy fans.

  2. In 1942, 31 year-old Lucille Ball got her first major dramatic role as Gloria Lyons, the selfish, arrogant moll of Barton McLane. Lucy is crippled as a result of McLane slapping her around and finds a devoted admirer in Henry Fonda as "Little Pinks"... Lucy was very excited about acquiring this part and even went to Charles Laughton and his wife Elsa Lanchester for advice on how to interpret Gloria. Henry Fonda wasn't impressed with Ball's acting style at all and he would make statements such as "You're not going to play her like THAT -- are you"? - much to Lucy's intimidation and dismay. Incredibly, Lucy had already been in Hollywood for 9 years when this meaty role was offered her. Ball received mostly positive reviews from the critics, but the movie was not a financial success at the box-office. Charming, touching and often funny in parts, this Damon Runyon vehicle wavers from good to too sticky. Although I'm a tried-and-true Lucy fan, I'm in total agreement ... that this IS a rather oddball film. THE BIG STREET has long been hailed as Lucy's best dramatic venture but I much prefer her serious performances in LURED (1947), THE DARK CORNER (1946) & DANCE, GIRL, DANCE (1940)...

  3. I got this movie for Lucille and this is different material from Lucy. In this she effectively plays a cold hearted woman. You're drawn to believe she's faking it. But she is immensely cruel in this movie and why Henry Fonda's character puts up with her is beyond me. This was a different role for Henry too. This isn't a depression or western role. He plays an extremely shy boy and at times comes across as very lovable. After watching this it made me a fan of him. Before I never cared much for him.

  4. This is a great movie, great acting, the best of the best stars and a perfect plot. See Lucy at her best, and Fonda so wonderful. You will love this movie and won't leave the room until it ends..........5 stars

  5. I loved this movie! This was a Lucy I was not used to and she was great in it. Henry Fonda was his usual excellent self. I totally recommend this movie to all die hard Lucy fans!!!

  1. Come on its funny, I enjoyed this movie...
    Great for the kids

  2. This is the worst movie I have ever seen. My mother-in-law gave it to my son who likes WWI aircraft. We didn't know it was going to be a horror movie -- scared the kids. I was going to insist we stop 30 minutes into the movie, but my daughter wanted to see how the thing turned out. I decided to let us finish the movie to use it as an object lesson in discernment and to teach that one need not finish a movie that is such a waste of time. Both kids (ages 7 and 10) agreed it was awful, and we destroyed it lest anyone else be unwittingly subjected to it.

  3. I happen to like horror movies, so I found this quite entertainnng, and intriguing, has it own twists and turns.

  4. ok it's not quite as bad as 'jules et jim', because at least this one is so bad its frequently funny.
when you watch this movie its just unbelievable, you will sit slack-jawed with utter amazement. when i see a 'film' like this i wonder: who the hell put up the money to get this made, and did they even look at the script beforehand?

  5. This Movie is funny as hell,I watch it all the time. Almost all my friends love it. my mom even likes it. So that tells you something right there. Some have even asked me where to get a copy. One of my brothers watched it and liked it. And he doesn't normally watch too many horror movies. anyway watch it. It is Definately worth it. They should really make a sequel to this. This was a Great sequel to Von Richthofen and Brown.

4 comments about The Interrogation of Michael Crowe (True Stories Collection TV Movie) [Region 2].
  1. The movie is really terrible - not by its quality but by its content. A teenage girl is murdered in her room during the night. Next day the parents and their two other kids are taken to the police for interrogation. And 14-year old Michael falls under suspicion. From now on the most horrible begins for the family which already has to deal with desperation and grief after the death of their daughter, separation in the police precinct, multiple interrogations and mistrust. Detectives don't care about the truth - they need only a confession from frightened and coursed boy. And we all know cops can get a confession if they REALLY want to...
The movie demonstrates quite vividly how the juridical system works (and I'm pretty sure not only in the U.S. but in the whole world) and this demonstration frightens. It frightens you a lot. While watching you experience everything that's going on just like it happens to you and feel real pain, anger and despair. Much of it because of a compelling actors' work.
Now we get quite an understandable explanation why most people don't like cops - because those who have power often use it not to help us as they ought to but to make their own work easier. To me the most significant were the father's words in the end of the film: "What are we supposed to do now if something happens? Call emergency? THOSE cops?"
Looks like our world is the place where you can't expect help from those whose job is to help. We just have to hope nothing bad happens at all. "The Interrogation of Michael Crowe" is very truthful and strong piece of work. Don't miss it.

  2. I teach an elective Law class to juniors and seniors and this was outstanding for dealing with interrogation, rights, etc. The acting was well done, and my students felt they benefitted greatly from researching the case and then seeing the video.

  3. I was extremely disappointed in this film. It is boring and I never completed the entire movie. This is the first time I ever saw a true story that I wouldn't finish watching. If I had seen this film beforehand I never would have purchased it.

  4. Having just finished watching this heart-wrenching movie on television, I am now motivated to lobby my state legislature to pass a law requiring video taping of all confessions. According to the information at the end of the movie, only Alaska and Minnesota require that all confessions be video taped. To see how police interrogators bullied and coerced 14-year-old Michael into making a false confession of killing his sister is a scene of vicious abuse you will never forget. Please contact your state legislature and lobby for the passage of a video taping law for confessions.

5 comments about The Living Daylights [Region 2].
  1. Two years after the final Roger Moore Bond film "A View To A Kill", "The Living Daylights" has changed the tone of the Bond franchise. Timothy Dalton being the biggest reason, but everything about this movie is more edgy and punctual, with agressive action and a soundtrack that keeps things moving.

Timothy Dalton is one of my favorite Bond's, and if he had the opportunity to be in more than just two films, he may have even become my favorite Bond. In a way he can be compared to the most recent Bond - Daniel Craig. Though not nearly as tough as Craig, Dalton brings a very stately tune, with little time for goofing around (unlike Roger Moore) and gets straight to the point. His physical appearance is absorbed by the camera, and even his voice is quite strong and fitting for the role. One could say he is even a more mature Bond, limiting himself to one girl in this movie, and even being a little romantic.

The story in The Living Daylights is rather involved and perhaps somewhat confusing - at least for awhile. It definelty requires your attention and keeps you guessing. This is the last of the films during the Cold War era, and again we have Russia as a major part of the plot in the film, including another KGB henchman to give Bond some good fights as always. Pacing was about typical for a Bond movie, as some moments were slow and others were action packed - and when the action gets going it just doesn't stop.

Music is very important to any movie, and the soundtracks to the Bond films has always been a big factor. In The Living Daylights, the score has more of a modern feel with a beat that compliments the action quite well. In prior Bond films, most of the time the music throughout the movie was an orchestral rehash of the opening song (which is fine) but here it expands on that quite a bit. Speaking of the opening song, I rather enjoyed the title song "Living Daylights" by Ah-ha. Its very 80's sounding, but upbeat and gets me in the mood for the film every time.

The action is actually more realistic this time around, but harder. We don't have any huge unrealistic action scenes from movies such as Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, or View To A Kill, but more down to Earth simple chases and fights that keeps things real, yet strong and engaging. If there is a huge and intense action scene in this film, it would easily have to be the fight between Bond and the KBG man, hanging off a net off the back of a cargo plane in mid-air. The scene was shot well, choreographed decently, and put to fitting music.

Locations are not as exotic as they could have been, but Bond does travel to a variety of countries including Czechoslovakia, Austria and Afghanistan. Climate changes from snowy mountains to hot desert thoughout the film too. My favorite scene location-wise, has to be the pre-credits scene at the island of Gibraltar. The shots of the double O's parachuting from the plane to the island are quite nice, as is the following scenes of intense action to set-up the rest of the film.

Not only is Timothy Dalton a refreshing and welcoming sight to the franchise, The Living Daylights has the feel of something new and refreshing too, but still keeping all things Bond intact at the very heart of it all.

    Acting - 4
    Action - 4.5
    Characters - 4
    Story - 4
    Overall - 4.5

  2. Dalton is fantastic! I can't say enough how much I wish Dalton had been given more films to play Bond in. He is hands down my favorite pre-Brosnan Bond, bringing a humanity and an intelligence to the role that was unparralled up to that point.
If you enjoy your Bond with brains, tons of action and great emotional depth, you need to see this film, (and License to Kill, Dalton's other Bond film.)

  3. "The Living Daylights" is a disappointment for several reasons. The biggest reason is the surprisingly unengaging plot. The second reason is that Timothy Dalton doesn't seem comfortable playing James Bond. He's not a bad actor but instead of making his own interpretation of the character (like he did in the next movie, "Licence To Kill") he seems to be imitating Roger Moore. The reason is most likely that the script was written with Moore in mind. Lois Maxwell was replaced by Caroline Bliss as Miss Moneypenny and she didn't seem right for the part at all.

"The Living Daylights" was not a good start for Dalton. Luckily the series did improve.

  4. Dalton is the third best Bond IMO (Connery & Craig coming first). This one movie is better than the entire Roger Moore run. It's much closer to the books & Ian Fleming's original vision. The downside - it is slow moving & unnecessarily sprawling. The movie runs 2 hours 11 minutes - it could have been a tight 1 hour 45 minutes, IMO.

Small quibble. Good script, great cast, excellent score, fun action. With a more mature tone than the Moore series. Recommended, especially if you loved Casino Royale.

  5. Fun movie to watch a lot of action silly at times, but I really enjoyed it, if you not a Bond fan, you will still like this movie, much better than the other Bond move that Dalton was in.

5 comments about Atlantis: Milo's Return [Region 2].
  1. If there's a moral to be learned from all the sequels disney has made recently, its that if its not shown in theaters, dont see it!
i loved the first atlantis movie, but this one totally ruined if not killed the charm and thrill of the first movie. if i ddint know better, id say that Disney's animators are either on strike or have permanently run out of ideas. i have yet to see one disney sequel of an original film that doesnt suck.

  2. Atlantis: Milo's Return plays out more like three saturday morning cartoon episodes that they added interconnecting scenes to. It has the poor quality of the average saturday morning toons.

This is not really much of a sequel. They present three seperate, unrelated tales of misadventure that Milo and the gang have to go through. Sure, they are all related to artifacts that were created by the king of Atlantis, but that's about it.

Poorly conceived, blandly presented, and with an ALL NEW VOICE for Milo (they obviously couldn't get Michael J. Fox back for this due to the poor quality), the standard Disney trademark is on this when everything turns out perfectly peaceful in the end.

Kids might enjoy it, but Scooby Doo at its worst is more entertaining!

  3. Although this dvd was supposed to be in very good condition, it had a serious scratch that prevented my little boy from watching the whole movie. It's one of his favorites, so we're very disappointed.

  4. Atlantis: Milo's Return is absolutely horrible, and there is almost nothing good to be had from this craptacular movie experience, except divine hatred for all things about Disney sequels. The plot is simply too hard to figure out, and it will only piss you off when you're able to figure out some parts of it. Everything good about the original has gone horribly wrong in its hellish sequel. The original actors are basically no where to be found in the sequel, which also ruins the experience. The artwork doesn't seem very good either, and will only make you wonder how a Disney movie can manage that. If you value your soul, please avoid this awful movie at all costs if you don't wish to get a glimpse of hell.

  5. This is a compilation of 3 TV afternoon episodes which, after the brass at Disney TV animation viewed them, decided not to make any more, and release them on DVD after interstitial connections were made to sort of make them into a movie. Much the same track taken with "Belle's Magical World" and "Cinderella 2". When the studio execs judge that the three test episodes of a projected TV afternoon series aren't good enough to make it on TV, the DVD obviously won't be very good, either.

5 comments about Greyfriars Bobby: The True Story of a Dog.
  1. Having been to Edinburgh and seen the statue of Bobby, this film had some meaning for me. Film makers - including Disney - just don't make films like this anymore, probably because society has changed so much since this was filmed in 1960.

There is no violence, no swearing, the dog is real, and there is no animation - it's a sweet film that'll gently tug on your heart strings. It's innocence is so very touching and it's a classic example of the type of films my parents grew up watching and that I can now appreciate.

If you're a dog lover then it'll warm your heart, and if you want to show your children a sweet film that will show them a bit of history, won't frighten them, or teach them bad habits then Greyfriar's Bobby is just the ticket.

  2. Enough has been said elsewhere about what a charming, heart-rending tale this is, so, just to be different, I would like to draw your attention to the scene where the tenement children turn up at court with seven shillings in pennies, half-pennies and farthings to pay Bobby's licence fee and thus save his life.

The scene is set in 1867, but when the coins are poured out on the table in court, you will see that several of the pennies bear the old, veiled head of Queen Victoria which did not appear until 1893. Furthermore, if you freeze that scene, and play it frame by frame, you will notice miscellaneous coins from the reigns of George V and George VI, whose reigns did not begin until 1910 and 1936 respectively.

Admittedly it is highly unlikely that these latter coins would have been noticed by anybody, but the old, veiled head of Queen Victoria on some of the pennies is glaringly obvious. In 1961, when this film was made, coins of all monarchs, from Victoria onwards, were still in general circulation in varying quantities.

Greyfriars Bobby is still a delightful film, but watching out for the coins will perhaps add a little bit of extra interest.

  3. This is a sentimental animal lovers movie. Based upon a true story it delivers on all counts.

  4. Walt Disney's 1961 classic Greyfriars Bobby is one of the most heartwarming and enchanting classic ever to be brought to the screen. Therefore, you can imagine my astonishment when I purchased the DVD only to find out that the entire narration by the star, Donald Crisp, is completely missing from the print. I come from a cinema industry background and remember the film vividly on its original and subsequent re-releases, and when it became available on VHS tape I immediatey purchased it and have enjoyed it again, many times over, complete with the narration on the VHS version. The narration by Donald Crisp is meant to start about 9 minutes into the film, as he becomes both narrator and the voice of the dog. One of the most important parts of the narration, and the story, is what happens to the dog after the events, which was originally all explained in the theatrical and VHS versions, but is completely missing on the DVD version, and therefore an important part of the emotional thread is also missing. I recommend that you watch the complete VHS version and totally avoid the incomplete DVD copy. Walt Disney would be disgusted at the way they have treated one of his most cherished classics.

  5. I have three Scotish surnames in my ancestry. So I could not pass up a tour to see the British Isles this past summer with our church choir. The trip finale was to sing in the magnificent St. Giles Cathedral just a block or so down from Greyfriar's courtyard and Abbey. The impressive Scotish National Museum is just across the street. A statue errected to Bobbie is in the fork in the street just in front of two businesses named for the beloved animal. Inside the wrought iron gates is Bobbie's grave site and a walk down to the right is John Grey's grave stone paid for by "the American friends of Greyfriar's Bobbie". It is coming close to half a century ago when I saw the disney movie. I have to admit that it was the most touching experience for me there in downtown Edinburgh. What a powerful movie for such feelings to well up inside of me so many years (decades) later! I took some high definition video along the sidewalk in front of the address. I will try to post it as a video review if I can get it stepped down to a lower resolution.
