    The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

    Alien IV

This level of badness was best described by my friend as we watched Superman III back in high school. He said "this movie sucks, lets go play video games." He then threw his bucket of popcorn all over me, stood up and walked out of the theater. I, of course, followed him wondering why I hadn't thought of it first...although I wouldn't have thrown the popcorn...it was way too expensive to decorate my friend with.

  2. It is a great one for a change of pace. A silly funny movie.

  3. This actually wasn't as bad as you might think. It's harmless fluff, silly in many parts but also a movie filled with likable characters and good adult jokes that go over the kids' heads. It's clean stuff: references to other movies and things. It's one of these films you find yourself laughing more than the kids but the next day you really can't remember much that you saw. In other words, you will be entertained but it's not a memorable movie.

The horse might be in the running as the most memorable character in the film. Even the villain isn't despicable. He's more cartoon-like than evil. Alfred Molina does a nice job as "Snidely Whiplash." Eric Idle and Sarah Jessica Parker are also good in here.

Brendan Fraser, playing the title role, was on a role their for a couple of years, playing these silly, comedic roles and being successful in doing so (i.e. George Of The Jungle, Bedazzled, etc.)

Don't dismiss this as totally stupid. It will surprise you. All of us can use a good laugh and this movie provides plenty.

  4. This is great, especially for those of us that grew up with Boris and Natasha, Branden Fraser is a character, Great Movie, worth owing.

  5. Hilarious. Start to finish, it's just good, clean fun. Somewhere along the lines of Finding Nemo and Shrek humour. You can judge this DVD by its cover. (Note: The horse is backwards - Silly horse...)

5 comments about Eight Legged Freaks (Widescreen Edition).
  1. The biggest problem with this film is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a horror movie? Is it a comedy? Is it a campy spoof? It is all three, but not enough of any one of them. If they would have changed the spider sound effects to be more threatening, rather than sounding like Gizmo from Gremlins, this would have been a very scary and good movie. It seems to me the action didn't fit the sound effects and really sank this one for me. Too bad as it had a lot of potential. The short that inspired this movie "Larger than Life" is included on the DVD and is way better than the feature film because it takes itself a little more seriously.

  2. In 2002 there came a film in the tail end of that year's summer blockbuster film season which took me by surprise. The movie I'm talking about is Eight-Legged Freaks. It was from Kiwi-born director Ellory Elkayem and he did a wonderful job of bringing back just a small peek at those fun 1950's giant monster and insect movies like Them! and a host of others.

The movie pretty much follows the same conventions as those old-time monster movies. It has the smart and bookish teenage boy whose love for all things spiders will come in handy as the movie moves along. Then there's the eccentric and creepy loner who collects spiders and learns that the water he has been giving them has now been tainted by toxic chemicals from a drum container that has fallen into a nearby river during transport. This river and the creek it feeds is right next to a down-and-out mining Arizona town, ironically named Prosperity. The movie wouldn't be complete without the arrival of its prodigal son, Chris McCormick (played with quite a bit of understatement by the usual over-the-top David Arquette) whose father used to own the gold mines which the town relied on for its economy.

With a reluctant hero comes the woman he left behind and pined for years ago, but now much older and with kids of her own from a previous marriage. Kari Wuhrer --- of MTV and B-movie fame --- plays Samantha Parker. McCormick's love interest who also happens to be Prosperity's current town sheriff and single mother to the aforementioned teenage boy with the thing for spiders and nubile teen daughter Ashley (played by pre-superstardom Scarlett Johansson). Then there's Wade, the town mayor whose failing Ostrich farm and unused megamall is leading him to sell the town wholesale to some nameless giant corporation.

With the basic plot set and characters introduced all hell breakloose as toxic-mutated spiders grow to giant proportions and begin to terrorize and devour the townspeople. At first, it's isolated attacks until their numbers grown in size and they attack the town itself en masse. This may be a B-movie but it sure had great CGI-effects when it came to the giant arachnids and how they behaved on the screen. The many different types of giant spiders ended up having distinct personalities to distinguish themselves from each other. From the tank-like tarantula to the agile Jumping Spiders and the cunning trapdoor spiders. In fact, these spiders were also given some sort of voice which sounded like chipmunks on helium as they screeched, yipped and screamed their way around the screen.

Eight-Legged Freaks is not something great to write mom home about, but it is a fun movie to sit through, especially one full of teenagers who seem to scream and shout the loudest. This is a type of movie that actually needs a rowdy audience to really entertain. There's really no need to follow the dialogue since most of it is quite forgettable. The action on the screen from the giant spiders chasing motocross-riding teens and their attack on the townspeople at the megamall does well without the need of extraneous dialogue.

Ellory Elkayem did a great job in making Eight-Legged Freaks not just a fun movie but also a throwback to the 50's monster movies that we see now on syndication. This movie showed Elkayem had great potential as a genre filmmaker. It's a shame he had to follow up Eight-Legged Freaks with two very awful and forgettable sequels to the Return of the Living Dead franchise. I'm still hoping that he can rebound from that double-debacle and make more fun monster movies.

  3. Hands down, this is the best spider movie out there to this day. Its funny, sometimes scray, and action pack, and along for the ride are terrific special effects. Believe or not, the spiders 'talk'. Well, they don't really talk, all they really make are squeaky voices, which are supposed to be their 'talking' voice. Anyway, the film doesn't take its self seriously. And thank god it doesn't. If it had, it would have sucked balls. Check this creature feature, you won't be disapponted.

PS: I'm over 13, but I figured this was easier. Oh and by the way, I'm beggining to write the sequel.

    MR.JAWSBITEME
    Wish me luck!

  4. This movie is so intense and pulse pounding I almost cried. It is filled with suspense and horror scenes that you will have nightmares for nights. When I saw the spider in the pop-tent, I threw my shoes across the theater in glee.

  5. Creepy, fun, edge-of-the-seat movie that I would never part with! I've watched it several times already. This movie made me fond of David Arquette, who I couldn't stand before I saw this movie. The characters are fun and endearing, and I love when David yells the title line of the movie out! Funny every time. Buy it if you like good, clean spookiness. It's a must have!

5 comments about La Femme Nikita - The Complete First Season.
  1. Gave up after 5 episodes. Peta is attractive but too quirky in this role. I also can't stand Roy Dupuis (Micheal), the pretty boy trying to play tough guy. "The Operator's" talking with half a mouth aka Gretta Van Sustern is the final straw. Plots are boring and not up to the standards of other spy thriller shows.

  2. 5 Stars For THe Show, 2 Stars For The DVD

The show is fantasic, my grip in the review are hte DVD's

I guess this is what happens when you compress the hell out of it...but theres lots of compression issues in these DVD sets. They look bad, if it wasn't for the fuzz on the television, the origional broadcasts looked better than this.

  3. First, I want to state that I did not watch Nikita on television, so my comments are limited to my viewing the Season One box set. Second, I find it sad, but not surprising, that recent reviews have panned the show or the dvd quality. In an entertainment world over 10 years later, Nikita lacks the "luster," the "non-stop explosives," and the "mindless CGI effects" that viewers today take for granted. Moreover, since Nikita has a more "cold war" feel to it, I am sure those who didn't live during the cold war or did not learn their history lessons, may find it hard to understand that "terrorism" existed in abundance prior to our country's current activities. Third, like many, I wish the show was in wide screen formate, but if reviewers and buyers read the description (and do a little research), they will learn that the show was not filmed in that formate. Fourth, and most important to me, I take exception to reviews that pan the show for "poor storylines, poor acting, poor production."

Sadly, I purchased the Alias series--which I really like--first, so I found myself dismayed at the "copy cat" nature of Alias. Nikita is truly a much superior show: the writing is tighter; the directing and editing excellent; the themes and story lines are fuller and more realistic; and, perhaps most importantly, the look is genuine--the producers utilized Toronto very convincingly; (I almost always felt like they were really on location, having lived in Europe for three years). Peta Wilson was perfect for the show, her performances were generally outstanding, and over-all, award worthy. While I personally did not care for Roy Dupuis' character, the actor's portrayals should not be confused with the character. And Roy's portrayals are very commendable. Together, Roy and Peta had great "chemistry"--as they say. Thus, I can state, with all due respect, that in my opinion the show does in fact have great story lines, superb acting, and amazing production (which was on a "shoe string" budget, even for the time).

All of that said, what really distinguishes Nikita is the fact that I find the episodes to be about relationships, not spies, sci-fi, terrorism, theoretical "ultra-secret" governmental agencies (albeit, I am sure the Bush administration would really enjoy the freedom of Section One), or any thing else. It is a microscopic look at the way people interact (both in 1995 and today). That is, through the established structure of the fictional Section One, relationships between people are highly controlled and well defined. One wrong move and you are "dead;" figuratively or (from the view point of the show) literally. One misunderstanding between two people can cascade into all sorts of outcomes. Lies and truths are intertwined (granted, in exaggerated excesses), driving the various relationships. Trust is a commodity that is elusive and even harder to maintain; games are habitually used. And POWER is the key to all relationships, interactions/actions, and motivations--either directly or indirectly; with or with out awareness.

Watch Nikita, and look for yourself in the mirror that it holds up for us to look at our own lives. I truly doubt that the creators and staff of Nikita intended to create a reflection of how relationships work, and I am not one to claim I know how they work. However, having a Ph.D. in both Sociology and Anthropology, it is my opinion that this is the strength of the series, Le Femme Nikita. For those interested in readings that influence my professional position, I recommend the following books in particular: The Homeless Mind: Modernization and Consciousness by Peter Berger, et al; Valuing the Self by Dorthy Lee (not available from Amazon); From Max Weber: Essays in Sociology by Max Weber (or any of his other works); Mind, Self, and Society by George Herbert Mead; and The Power Elite by C. Wright Mills.

As one final note, I would like to present MY personal opinion and position concerning the topic of Nikita: terrorism. As a former military officer with considerable experience in security, intelligence, and anti-terrorism in mid 1970s, I believe that Nikita's portrayal of how terrorism must be dealt with is much more realistic than our so called "War on Terrorism." Terrorists must be fought with terrorists: not hard working, patriotic soldiers of our fine military. Terrorism is NOT war; and rhetoric cannot change that.

  4. First, let me say there are not enough stars to rate this show. It was amazing and kept you tuned in each and every week, waiting on the edge of your seat. I have been a HUGE fan of this show ever since it came out on USA Network (9pm on Sundays.....never missed an episode!) You will not be disappointed in buying this DVD set. I re-watch mine often. The story lines a great, the actors and actresses are amazing (I especially like it for Roy Dupuis...he is very very sexy), and this is one of the few DVD sets out there where you will want to buy all of the seasons.

  5. i have to say they seemed to pay a little more attention to the music in the first series, especially the first episode they ever made which actually is on disk 2 called 'true love'.

disk 2 series are probably some of my favorite episodes on season 1 as well. im not into film directing so i dont know all the lingo, but the opening scene in 'obsessed' was very well done. nice little camera & editing tricks along with great timing with the music ( i think known as film scoring).

they have different directors and you can kind of tell which ones did which episodes as some of them seem to have certain 'styles'. as i said im no film expert or even amateur.

i do have to say peta is very very good with this character, alot of her character and emotions comes out through her eyes. if you can look at the first episode of series 1 compared to the first episode in series 3, you'll notice just how far developed nikita & most likely peta's character familiarization really comes into play.

roy on the other hand delivers just ok, he's great when he playing real cool & slightly ruthless but some times his acting just doesn't deliver. the other actors seem to fit in their characters pretty well, no real complaints.

madeline & nikita seem to have slightly more mutual affection for each other in the first series. you dont get to learn too much about the other characters but in the next few series you do. i think the first & last series are probably my favorites, altho there are other episodes i liked in the other middle series.

5 comments about The Last Sentinel [Blu-ray].
  1. The Last Sentinel (which originally debuted on the Sci-Fi channel) is another run-of-the-mil post-apocalyptic action flick, which places too much emphasis on flimsy action sequences & cheap thrills and little elsewhere. Muddy cinematography (apparent poor lighting on sets, which not even the editing could conceal), bad acting and horrific choreography (writer/director Jesse Johnson, whose done stunt work on such films as Beowulf, MI3 and T3 should be ashamed). In fact, the best fight sequence in the entire movie is the final showdown at the end of the film (which isn't saying much at all). Mainly due to that fact that it doesn't consist of a guns blazing shooting spree like all of it's other battles.

Don "The Dragon" Wilson (the movie's protagonist) muffs his lines throughout the majority of the film. He looks bored and expressionless, as if he cannot wait for the filming to be over (who can blame him?). The character development between Wilson's character (Tallis) and Katee Sackhoff's (whose character's name just so happens to be named "Girl," how original) is poorly conceived. It's far too overtly contrived to be taken remotely seriously. Very little comes out of it.

Speaking of little, very little comes out of the film. Everything done in this film has been done a gazillion times before, and quite frankly, the movie isn't even that entertaining. The story and characters are entirely forgettable. They were just doomed from the beginning. Not even Keith David's appearance could save it (the movie).

There are so many great sci-fi action flicks out there that should never have to settle for The Last Sentinel (it's quite baffling how a film of this calibre gets a Blu Ray release). So, do yourself a favor and skip over this one. Wilson fans at least expecting some action on par with his Bloodfist films, may want to steer clear as well. As they will be left woefully disappointed.

This would have scored a star had Katee Sackhoff not been pleasing on the eyes. Might I add, she's not the main star of the film like the dvd cover attempts to have one believe.

  2. Bought it as a cheap bluray but it looks more like a mediocre DVD than a Bluray dick.

And the story isnt great either.

  3. The ONLY and I mean ONLY reason to watch this movie would be for Katee Sackhoff; who is not even the star of the movie as the movie cover would have you to believe. I believe the producers are attempting to play on her popularity in Battlestar Galactica. The story line is absolutely terrible unbelievable and laughable (especially when they try to pass off a 1980's IBM computer as the latest in high tech electronic equipment, yes they still have the old green and black screens). DO NOT waist your money on this. I'm sure at some point the Sci-fi channel will re-run this movie and if you must watch it (again for Katee Sackhoff) then do so. I have no idea why this was put to blue ray before even BSG was.

  4. This movie is like sp many others about a world where robots have taken over the world and a few brave freedomfigthers are left to try to fend them of, yadda yadda ya. We have seen it all before. But the movie is fun, the concept of talking, intelligent weapons is interesting especially for pepole that like this AI. The acting is ok. In short it is a ok sifi movie that will entertain for the time it runs, but that are completely forgettable and fail to stand out among the rest.

  5. I got this movie because of the description on the back. Thought that if I could watch a Dolph Lungren movie, I can watch this. I was wrong on many levels. Firstly, the acting was even worse than Dolph has ever been. Second, the storyline didn't make any sense, like they cut out parts of the movie that were real important for understanding. The picture quality was of an old vhs quality. The fight scenes were the worst I have ever seen (and I have watched some bad movies). I would rather have watched grass grow or paint dry than go through this movie again. The only reasons I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it is a cheap blu-ray movie and someone will hopefully like it.

5 comments about Greyfriars Bobby.
  1. Having been to Edinburgh and seen the statue of Bobby, this film had some meaning for me. Film makers - including Disney - just don't make films like this anymore, probably because society has changed so much since this was filmed in 1960.

There is no violence, no swearing, the dog is real, and there is no animation - it's a sweet film that'll gently tug on your heart strings. It's innocence is so very touching and it's a classic example of the type of films my parents grew up watching and that I can now appreciate.

If you're a dog lover then it'll warm your heart, and if you want to show your children a sweet film that will show them a bit of history, won't frighten them, or teach them bad habits then Greyfriar's Bobby is just the ticket.

  2. Enough has been said elsewhere about what a charming, heart-rending tale this is, so, just to be different, I would like to draw your attention to the scene where the tenement children turn up at court with seven shillings in pennies, half-pennies and farthings to pay Bobby's licence fee and thus save his life.

The scene is set in 1867, but when the coins are poured out on the table in court, you will see that several of the pennies bear the old, veiled head of Queen Victoria which did not appear until 1893. Furthermore, if you freeze that scene, and play it frame by frame, you will notice miscellaneous coins from the reigns of George V and George VI, whose reigns did not begin until 1910 and 1936 respectively.

Admittedly it is highly unlikely that these latter coins would have been noticed by anybody, but the old, veiled head of Queen Victoria on some of the pennies is glaringly obvious. In 1961, when this film was made, coins of all monarchs, from Victoria onwards, were still in general circulation in varying quantities.

Greyfriars Bobby is still a delightful film, but watching out for the coins will perhaps add a little bit of extra interest.

  3. This is a sentimental animal lovers movie. Based upon a true story it delivers on all counts.

  4. Walt Disney's 1961 classic Greyfriars Bobby is one of the most heartwarming and enchanting classic ever to be brought to the screen. Therefore, you can imagine my astonishment when I purchased the DVD only to find out that the entire narration by the star, Donald Crisp, is completely missing from the print. I come from a cinema industry background and remember the film vividly on its original and subsequent re-releases, and when it became available on VHS tape I immediatey purchased it and have enjoyed it again, many times over, complete with the narration on the VHS version. The narration by Donald Crisp is meant to start about 9 minutes into the film, as he becomes both narrator and the voice of the dog. One of the most important parts of the narration, and the story, is what happens to the dog after the events, which was originally all explained in the theatrical and VHS versions, but is completely missing on the DVD version, and therefore an important part of the emotional thread is also missing. I recommend that you watch the complete VHS version and totally avoid the incomplete DVD copy. Walt Disney would be disgusted at the way they have treated one of his most cherished classics.

  5. I have three Scotish surnames in my ancestry. So I could not pass up a tour to see the British Isles this past summer with our church choir. The trip finale was to sing in the magnificent St. Giles Cathedral just a block or so down from Greyfriar's courtyard and Abbey. The impressive Scotish National Museum is just across the street. A statue errected to Bobbie is in the fork in the street just in front of two businesses named for the beloved animal. Inside the wrought iron gates is Bobbie's grave site and a walk down to the right is John Grey's grave stone paid for by "the American friends of Greyfriar's Bobbie". It is coming close to half a century ago when I saw the disney movie. I have to admit that it was the most touching experience for me there in downtown Edinburgh. What a powerful movie for such feelings to well up inside of me so many years (decades) later! I took some high definition video along the sidewalk in front of the address. I will try to post it as a video review if I can get it stepped down to a lower resolution.

5 comments about No Escape.
  1. "No Escape" is an amazing SCI-FI action movie starring Ray Liotta, who is my favourite actor along with Robert Patrick (T1000). Ray Liotta is in my opinion THE KING of ACTION MOVIES!!!!
He is an actor full of energy, who succeeds everytime in transmiting to the viewer exactly the feeling that he wants to transmit in that moment, a quality which only the great actors have it.
I can easily see on his face the joy of acting!!!
    Keep it up, Ray!!!

  2. What is it with guys like Ray Liotta and Lance Henriksen? They are great character actors, but once they take the lead, their films seem to be forgotten or ridiculed. "No Escape" is a particularly interesting flick considering that both Liotta and Henriksen appear in it. Not to mention Ernie Hudson and Stuart Wilson, who are two other top-notch actors who seem to be stuck in ruts.

This film didn't get much recognition in its day. I caught it at the movies years ago and loved it. Sure, it borrows from flicks like "Escape From New York" and I even see a little "Island of Dr. Moreau" in there, but it is an excellent film on its own merit. It has a stock story of a man who has committed a crime in order to right a wrong. He is banished to an island prison where no one escapes. On this island there are two factions: Insiders and Outsiders. One group is peaceful and lives in a semi-Utopian society whereas the other lives primarily under the rule of one man, Wilson. Henriksen plays the "Father," who quietly leads the Insiders. When Robbins, played by Liotta, falls into the game, he is sought out by Wilson's Marek, but ends up with the Insiders.

Naturally, Liotta decides he has to escape the island to prove his case and to seek out freedom. What follows is raid after raid and the eventual final battle, full of deception and action. But don't let this simplistic and borrowed tale deceive you. This is a fun film to watch and the primary characters are solidly developed.

Ernie Hudson heads up a strong supporting cast that features Kevin Dillon as a hard-luck innocent and Michael Lerner takes a nasty turn as the Warden. You'll recognize Hudson from "Ghostbusters I & II." He played Winston. Dillon was in the remake of "The Blob" and Lerner played the mayor of NYC in "Godzilla" with Matthew Broderick. There are other recognizable faces in the crowd as well.

If you're looking for a solid film with good production and a wonderful plot(though not very original), you're sure to enjoy "No Escape." Check it out and add it to your Ray Liotta library. He's an oft-overlooked actor who deserves better accolades.

  3. From the producers of "The Terminator" and "Aliens" and it shows. Practically nonstop mayhem. And very much like the last two Mad Max movies, particularly in the costumes, makeup, and the town, which somewhat resembled Barter Town. Liotta, however, is no Mel Gibson; there didn't seem to be that hardness at his core that Gibson can project. However, I did thoroughly enjoy it in spite of the constant violence. Was filmed in Australia, with some gorgeous scenery shots. But far too much violence and very graphic. Although its message was good. I would think some scenes here could cause nightmares among the young and the more susceptible. There's really nothing wrong with the movie's plot; it's just that we're now too good in the technical department, and can make violence so real these days. Maybe we need to downgrade here, and not be so graphic.

  4. I had rented this years ago but I couldn't pass up the price here so I bought a copy and it was well worth it. I had forgot how good it is at keeping your attention. Ray Liotta, Lance Henrikson, and the rest the cast do a fine job. Fans of movies like "Escape from New York" and "The Soldier" should enjoy it the most. When a soldier is convicted of killing his superior officer we are in the dark as to why at first and the Island prison he is dropped off on is more like "Lord of the Flies" or inhabitants escaped from "The Road Warrior" than normal people. His only concern is getting off this rock and if it means fighting a whole army of these dregs he will do it. Good quality DVD with ample replayability.

  5. this picture easily cracks my top fifty favorite science fiction pictures . i've seen it a number of times now . the relative B movie budget makes what was pulled off here even more admirable . the cast is great . the story original and the execution very satisfying and gratifying . it's interesting to know that many folks evidently feel the film is just adequate . different strokes . my recommendation (for what it's worth) is that you buy this film . i'd wager you'll want to revisit this one as well as turn friends onto the smart glee .

5 comments about I Know What You Did Last Summer [Blu-ray].
  1. This film starts fairly well, but then it becomes another routine slasher. I suppose if something is worth doing in Hollywood, it's worth overdoing. The best thing about this movie is John Debney's suspenseful score, which makes the movie watchable. The enhanced 2.35:1 DVD is of high quality.

  2. If you're expecting originality you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting a faithful adaptation of the superb book this is based on you'll be let down. If you just want to sit down to enjoy a entertaining movie, that is well-acted (the supporting cast (Bridgette Wilson in particular) do as good a job as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Philippe & Freddie Prince Jr.) you've come to the right page.

Four friends run over a man & dump his dead (?) body into the ocean after their drunken 4th July celebrations. One year later almost to the day, one of the friends receives a letter & the game is on. As it draws to 4th July the letters escalate to hair cutting, disappearing bodies & hit and runs.

I must mention that the main `stalk n slash' scene is gripping, edge-of-your-seat stuff. I wouldn't really call I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER a slasher though; it's more of a suspense thriller. The film focuses revenge.

The film relies on tension & building suspense instead of blood and gore, like classics such as HALLOWEEN. I'm not saying that I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is on that level, but it is well done. The film is better then it's chief comparison SCREAM because it seems more realistic.

One observation; I'm quite sure that the film had an 18 certificate in cinemas, while the DVD is certified as a 15. This makes me wonder over missing footage. I don't want to give anything away, but the killer has collected newspaper articles that detail something that seemingly has very little to do with the given plot. Just little things like that are winding me up. It doesn't spoil the plot or anything like that, so it isn't really important I guess.

Also, Anne Hecht has a seemingly pointless supporting role. So where has any left out footage gone? It's not included as an extra. Are they going to bring out 50 DVD editions of this or something?

  3. The main reason that I'm giving this flick three stars is because Scream, Halloween and Scary Movie all deserve at least two stars more. Another reason is that so many of the characters are such obnoxious jerks that I couldn't wait for them to die. On the other hand, most of the actors did a good job and some of them were very easy on the eyes. It's nice seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar again. Ladies and gays will appreciate the shower scene with Ryan Phillippe. The music was good. Some of the scenes will help you understand parts of the hilarious teen slasher spoof Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th. I'm not ashamed to rent this flick, but I wouldn't buy it.

  4. I Know What You Did Last Summer is pretty lame in every way possible. Two stars go to Ryan Phillipe and Sarah Michelle Gellar who make this horror flick not so unbearable. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt on the other hand, can't act worth a dime. The plot is silly as well, these four drunk teens run over some guy after a 4th of July blowout. Kevin Williams who wrote this movie is the mastermind behind the Scream franchise and the creator of Dawson's Creek, they even made a sequel to this movie (that one is even worse than this, if you can imagine). Stay away from this hook-hand silliness.

  5. Great slasher from the "screem era" of horror movies. And it looks fantastic on Blu-Ray!

  1. I buy a lot of TV show collections, and watch half the collection then lose interest. I watched this thing in a few days. I can't believe how much screaming and crying goes on IN EVERY EPISODE!!! This is the closest an American sitcom every came to being a Mexican sitcom. These women love each other, sure, but THEY DON'T GET ALONG VERY WELL. I can't believe how awesome this show is. I also forgot how creepy and stalkerish Schneider's character was in the beginning. He's played for laughs, but the guy's a menace who doesn't understand the word "No." I remember watching this as a kid and being mystified by all the comments about Bonnie Franklin being sexy and irresistible. She IS great at screaming and crying, but it takes a lot of imagination to see her as hot. That role belongs solely to Valerie Bertinelli. She's just an annoying twerp here, but in a few years she would blossom into a sexy, sexy lady. Get this show. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!

  2. I'm glad I bought this set so I could see the earlier shows that I didn't see and hopefully I can see the rest of the series on dvd because I haven't seen these shows since they were on network tv.
Very enjoyable! I hope the next season includes the rest of the Reunion special. I'd love more bonus features!
..classic Norman Lear production! Intelligent and emotional dialogue with relevant storylines. The stories and characters were endearing and sympathetic. Also love the clothes and interior sets!

  3. I never saw the show before but it looks good. I wonder if they will ever release any more seasons?

  4. i love watching this dvd while i'm getting ready to go to work.
this truly brings back memories. it was every sunday night this show would come on. i even remember where i was for several episodes.
i hope season 2 will be out very soon.

  5. I am very pleased with the DVD of "One Day at a Time". The DVD's are in excellent collection and have been GREAT to watch. Thanks VERY much!

  1. This DVD includes The Country Cousin (1936), Ferdinand the Bull (1938), The Ugly Duckling (1939) and The Wind in The Willows (1949). The Wind in The Willows was the first of the two animated sequences that are formed together to make The Adventures Of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949).

  2. ***** Five Stars for the cartoons themselves! I give the low *** three start rating because WE ALREADY HAVE THEM ON DVD!

This collection is a cheaply put-together, un restored, re-release of cartoons from the DISNEY TREASURES TINS! THESE ARE NOT FROM THE SAME MASTERS! So why buy something you already have?

    1) THE UGLY DUCKLING (1939) also on the "Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies" DVD release.

    2) COUNTRY COUSIN (1936) also on the "Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies" DVD release.

    3) FERDINAND THE BULL (1938) also on the "Disney Treasures: Rarities" DVD release.

    4) WIND IN THE WILLOWS (1949) segement from the feature Icabod & Mr. Toad. Amazon sells the entire feature for just $15.99

With the Disney Treasures DVD releases on limited availability, I guess Disney hopes those who missed out will buy these 4-cartoon discs. The low price is misleading, when you break it down to individual cartoon cost this release is EXPENSIVE!

    And no extras!

  3. Reminded me of old times. Great DVD to have for the children.

  4. The older Disney cartoons are still the best. Many have not been seen in years and are now available. I relish every moment watching this DVD. Ferdinand The Bull has always been a favorite. Now I have it forever.

  5. Growing up I can remember watching these Disney cartoons. Now that I have two kids of my own. It is great to share these classic Disney favorites with them.

5 comments about Meteor Man.
  1. Strange movie. I find it both incredibly stupid and yet entertaining. I dont mean stupid in a campy fun way. I mean "What lame brained idiot wrote this?!?" kind of stupid. If it weren't for such a large array of a very talented all-star cast this movie would have no hope whatsoever. I do admit, as stupid Meteor Man was I actually enjoyed some parts of it very much.

Character development is a major crapfest in this movie. Our hero in my opinion takes way too long to figure out what he has to do and ends up dragging the movie because of it. The villains are major stupids in their entire 'coolness' splendor. What's the deal with the gold Slinky? Pretty much all the characters are pretty one-dimensional and simple minded. That's not to say the acting was the same way. As a matter of fact the acting was superb all things considered. With such big names like Rob Townsend, Bill Cosby, James Earl Jones, Sinbad, and whole mess of others I'm not surprised the acting came up aces. As a matter of fact that's probably the only thing that saved this movie.

Being a superhero movie the special effects are pretty standard for things like flying, laser eyes and of course a crashing meteor (that seems to home in on our hero). In other words the special effects are functional. The things to look for are a few scenes that do shine above all the crap in the rest of the movie. The final fight scene, by the way, is not one of them. For one it's painfully long. I was begging for the final scene to be over it was taking so long. Plus, like much of the writing, it ends up being very, very stupid.

If only a condensed version of this movie was made to squeeze out the lame parts and leave in the good stuff I can recommend it. As it stands you would have to sit through some dumb scenes to get to the good stuff. If you have nothing better to do then give The Meteor Man a chance. Just keep in mind it will be a waiting game here and there until you get to the truly fun scenes.

  2. It was an ok movie, and it had madd cameo's it had Chris Tucker, Bill Cosby and a lot of famous black actors. That aspect maid the movie good.

  3. i live in okinawa, japan. anything i order takes about 2 weeks to get here. my movie came in three days!

  4. Why don't we have more superheroes like Meteor Man? This is the all-time favorite superhero movie of my three kids, who are on their second copy of the film. They wore the VHS out years ago, but the DVD is still going strong. Affirming, entertaining and fun.

  5. I own Meteor Man and every time my nephews visit, they can't wait to watch it! It's cute with lots of great black actors. It's silly, but fun and the message is positive. I give Robert Townsend lots of credit for making a black superhero movie and I even have the Meteor Man action figure that came out after the movie! Watch the movie and enjoy!
