  1. I feel sorry for everyone slammin' on this movie. It wasn't that bad.

  2. A thrill-a-minute, non-stop action adventure with a kick, Outside the Law delivers exactly what it propounds to -- a great action movie with solid acting. Director Jorge Montesi is on top with this one, leading a first-rate cast. Cynthia Rothrock delivers some intense martial action, while Seamus Dever and Jeff Wincott add heavy weight to an outstanding performance. Particularly interesting is the chemistry between Rothrock and Dever. A must see.

  3. I'm a sucker for martial arts films...I watch them and I'm rarely satisfied. Normally, I can expect to be somewhat entertianed by a Rothrock film, even if it is just watching her kick some butt. This movie, however, has very little butt kicking and a lot of bad acting and direction. This 90 minute film feels like it is two hours long. It has been a long time since Rothrock has done anything worth watching...but I watch her next video anyway, hoping for the glory days of "Righting Wrongs" and "Dragon Lady."

  4. I couldn't agree more, I think this movie should have more butt kicking then action. It really bites, but I guess I'll go with other movies that Rothrock has been in.

  5. The stunts in this film are kick-ass. I love the action.

  1. I found this movie in the bargain bin and got it on DVD for (money)- at that I was ripped off! Cynthia Rothrock plays only a minor role in this "Golden Boy" rip-off (although probably it predates that movie). The fight scenes are no better than average and the dubbing diabolical. I can think of no reason that would pursuade me to part with nearly (dollar amount) for this fiasco!

  2. This is a comedy NOT a drama. It is the funniest movie to ever come out of China and is on my personal Top Ten List of funniest movies of all times. This movie is best watched with a really good buzz! Im serious this movie is funyy with a capital F.

  1. Even if you don't think your time is valuable, it would be better spent and enjoyed if you stared at the off-white wall in your bedroom. At least your wall has texture. This movie is total trash. A big waste. And the martial arts, if you can call them that, are a joke.

  2. A good Martial Arts B movie. This is one of my Bolo Yeung Favorites, he is just dirty in this flick. Both 1 & 2 are good, 1 is better. Why is Tiger Claws 1 not on DVD but 2&3 are? I don't know what they are thinking but I like to see my movies in order! Wait for part one on DVD First(on Widscreen) before buying two.
    Nuff said!

  3. I'll start off by being honest and saying I have not seen part 1 yet. There were some clips at the beginning of this film from part 1, and they looked somewhat decent...mostly the Bolo Young character in some fight scenes. At first I was not expecting much from this movie, and really bought it cause it had one of my favorite B-movie martial arts villains, Bolo Young. I realized that the overall cast list was pretty good, consisting of Bolo, Jalal Merhi, Cynthia Rothrock, Eric Lee, Evan Lurie, and Ong Soo Han. There are even plenty of other extra guys, with great physicall build and abilities for the martial arts tournament in the film. I was prepared for some great fights among some great movie martial artists.

Most of the movie has a pretty good feel to it, and I think the music helps a lot - it almost sound like similar music used in Terminator 3. Pacing was good and I actually never realized that there wasn't too much action taking place. By the end of the film I longed for the action, and was pleased to see there was a tournament. The fights were short though, and only a few were decent. Bolo gets to fight too, but only in a couple of very short fights. The biggest dissapointment was the use of Ong Soo Han and Eric Lee, yet without little to no fighting from the 2 and both usually have excellent fights in most of their movies. Ong Soo Han's character's fate was a huge disappointment. The other big dissapointment was the finale with Bolo - I was hoping for a great fight scene with him and Jalal or Cynthia - didn't happen. He uses a few seconds of Tiger Claws on some guys, but its pretty stupid when each time he executes, the sound of a roaring tiger follows.

The plus is the final fights between the Cynthia Rothrock charcater and a couple of bad guys, and the Jalal Merhi charcater vs the bad guy character played by Evan Lurie, which ended up being the best fight of the movie - more evenly matched and longer.

Tiger Claws 2 ends up being average overall. The decent list of characters should have provided an extremely great action movie, but the best guys don't get to fight much. Hopefully Tiger Claws 3 will have a great fight with Bolo...oh wait he isn't in part 3....major doh!

  1. I didn't see much of this movie, but what I saw was pretty good. One of our females also thought that it was porn-o-licious.

  2. This is a low budget action movie that didn't quite come together. Cynthia Rothrock kicked booty as usual, but Fred Williamson and his character are unmemorable. The supposed budding romance between the Rothrock and Williamson characters lacked chemistry and thankfully there was no sex scene to strain credibility further. The plot is better than the usual martial arts movie, and this movie tries hard to be more than a kick-flick (the recovering alcoholic subplot comes to mind) but the overall story was not compelling.

This movie is worth renting for Rothrock's martial arts skills, but it is not worth owning unless you can find it in the bargain bin.

  3. Oh my God this movie is so bad it's great. I never thought anyone could get so many bad cop cliches in one movie:

    a) Two complete opposites get paired up together.
    b) Willy Will Williamson gets shot and has to open his vest to show that he had a bulletproof vest.
    c) Mr. Williamson has a drinking problem.
    d) Fantastic Fred hates his chief.

I'd like to stop here, but the flaws in this movie are high-larious.
    a) The WHOLE motorcycle scene. (It's quite obvious that those black things on the ground are exploding.
    b) After Fred avoids the bombs, if you look in the background, there are no flames.
    c) The song: "Dakota Smith, you're 1, 2, 3, 4, 12 Steps away!"
    d) After Dak shoots some dude IN THE HEAD Quick Draw-McGraw turns to him in amazement "He's Dead!!!!" Thanks toots.
    e) Oh yeah her last name is not McGraw!
    f) The disgustingly huge fat guys that hook up with the playboy bunnyesque chicks. Come on!
    g) Newt (the midget.) His role is Oscar worthy.
    h) The Video Stalker Barney the Dinosaur is more threatening
    i) Video Stalkers death (sorry to ruin the end, but I think you'll see it coming.) His exact words "I'm out of bullets (drops the gun)"

There's more, believe me. Watch it for yourself for a great laugh. Trust me this one is right up there with Satan's Children and Shark Attack 3: Megaladon-The Terror has Risen.

  4. I purchased this for $2 at a local video store thinking it would be enjoyable on an ironic level. It's just a waste--though I'll give it two stars since Bushwick Bill of the Geto Boys is in it.

  1. This movie is a martial arts/suspense thriller starring don niam
(the psychotic martial artist)and the very skilled and sexy cynthia rothrock. The movie has good plot and the acting isnt bad on the parts of don niam and cynthia rothrock. This movie gave me the chills the first time i saw it.Definatly a must see unfortunately this move was made during the wrong decade. This movie would have been more popular if it was made during the 80's not the 90's.

  2. Perhaps one of the funniest martial arts films you'll see. I was dying from laughter the entire time.

  3. This is the movie that is rocking everyone's face off on youtube. I ordered it, skeptically, thinking that even if it isn't Undefeatable, it would probably still be laughably bad. But it is Undefeatable, so if you want 88 minutes of solid gold, order it now.

  4. this movie is sooo poor that it is fun. it is the kind of movie tou watch with ur boys drinkin beer on a friday night to have a good laugh before you go to the club

  5. Yes, this is THE Undefeatable, one of the best cheesy movies ever made. Godfrey Ho's modern day masterpiece. The acting is beyond horrible, and the way the actors deliver their lines is bound to cause laughter.

The movie starts off with a woman talking to her psychiatrist about her abusive husband Paul. She says Paul used to be a mechanic but has changed since he became a fighter. He fights in death matches and thinks he is undefeatable. Paul is nicknamed Stingray. He gets home one day and sexually abuses his wife. She finally leaves him and Stingray goes crazy. He starts kidnapping any woman that has a flower dress and red hair like his wife. The cops start to take notice after finding the women dead. There are a lot of clues, but these cops are not the brightest people. Ray Niam, an unknown actor to me, plays the cop that is investigating the murders.

Cynthia Rothrock is a gang member who fights on the street to earn money. She has a job as a waitress but needs the extra money to pay for her sister's college tuition. Her sister just so happens to have red hair and wears a flower dress. She is kidnapped and killed, and Rothrock teams up with the cop to take down the killer.

The fight scenes are not too bad. Stingray is hilarious. He is very muscular, kind of looks like Michael Douglas, and has a crazy mullet fro thing going on. His acting is so bad that he comes across as being mentally handicapped. He is not believable at being scary, but he is still a lot of fun to watch. His movements are very akward and his facial expressions had me bursting out with laughter.

The first fight scene introduces Ray Niam as the cop. This guy is a horrible actor. He never shows any emotion, and his acting performance is actually funny because you can tell he is trying his hardest, yet he does everything wrong. So the first fight has him taking out 2 goons who are robbing a convenience store. This fight is pretty good, but only about 10 seconds long. Ray Niam does some good handwork and takes out both guys quickly.

Next fight has Rothrock fighting a rival gang member. The fight itself is decent, but what is going on around the fight is much more interesting. The audience starts clapping and stomping a concrete wall in a rhythmic beat. Godfrey Ho really knows how to set the mood.

Next fight has Stingray killing some guy and kidnapping his girlfriend. Nothing special about this fight. It's too short, and the actor who plays Stingray doesn't seem to know what choreography is. He does his own thing. There is an nice stunt at the end of the fight, but that's it.

Then Rothrock has another planned fight. She goes up against a big guy who wears football pads and charges at her like a football player. Rothrock kicks him a few times and beats him easily. Somehow Stingray spots the football player and his girlfriend going home from the fight with Rothrock. The girl is wearing a flower dress and has red hair so Stingray goes over to their trailer and beats the guy up. But he doesn't take the girl. I think Godfrey Ho just forgot. This fight is over quickly. The football player is so bad he actually makes Stingray look good with a few of his punches.

In the next scene Stingray sees Rothrock's sister with her red hair and flower dress. This is one of the better fights of the movie, but too short only lasting about 30 seconds. Stingray looks tough and there is a good stunt.

Now that her sister is dead, Rothrock tries to find the killer by challenging gangs to fights. She goes up against an eagle claw performer. I like the idea of having the eagle claw guy wear actual claws, but the choreography is only average.

The next guy Rothrock challenges is not bad. They have a good fight but it is cut too short and turns into a bad group fight. There are a couple good stunts but the choreography is slow.

The final fight is Stingray vs the cop. This is as bad as fight choreography gets. These guys do not work well together. There is no chemistry and none of their attacks look believable. The cop is always putting his hand up to block kicks and punches before Stingray even attacks. Midway through they decide to take off their shirts for some reason. I guess Godfrey Ho was hoping the audience would look at the guys chests instead of the terrible fight that is going on. So the fight is bad, but very funny.

If you are a hardcore fighting fan, then this will disappoint. If you like really cheesy movies then you will love this. The final scene may just be the best scene in the movie. Rothrock decides to enroll all of her gang member friends into college. So is Rothrock going to college? She says no, but the cop already enrolled her. That sneaky dog.

    2/5

  1. WOW. OK, this movie is a classic hardcore awesome martial arts movie. I love this film. I first saw the English dubbed version when I was young and it blew my mind away. I had seen a few Van Damme movies before I was enlightened by Yuen Biao and all the Hong Kong martial artists that followed. The speed, the viciousness, the martial arts, everything. Later on (many years of searching for this film - thank you Amazon.com) I saw the Chinese one (original version) with subtitles to help me out and was blown away again. This `is' the movie that inspired me to do martial arts, Kung-fu.

The action is great and all the fighters duke it out without being the average flippy flashy ninja people. Yuen Biao is great. Fast and flexible, not a bad actor either. Biao is a friend of Jackie Chan, and has been a goof in Dragons Forever, but this movie is hardcore and serious. Cynthia Rothrock, I have lots of respect for her. She is one of the best female martial artists that I have seen. I admire that woman a lot (only in her good films though, so beware of the bad ones). This movie was made in the mid 80s, so it has a neat look and score to it. I like the song in the credits. The plot is actually not that bad. A lawyer who has seen many criminals get away and put in jail for a long time or short time, gets fed up with the law system and goes out to enforce it by hand (Yuen Biao). Cynthia plays a cop who follows the law to strike down the lawbreakers. They both fight to serve the law, but both on different terms. Sooner or later, it gets time to get down and dirty, better to say, down and bloody. There are more one on one fight sequences than one versus many.

If you want to see this movie, I recommend that you get the Chinese one with English subtitles. In the Dubbed one, they said that it was all in Tokyo. Come on, Tokyo? It's Hong Kong! Personally I feel the dubbed one is a sell out in some of the lines. The Chinese one contains a few more scenes (I think - if memory serves me) and the dialog is much better. The ending in the Chinese one is very different from the ending in the Dubbed version that I saw some years ago (memory serves me on that). I like the Chinese ending better. If you have the time and money then get both, then you can make the decision for yourself, I won't tell you either endings.

  2. Why? Because it is a double-sided disk, with two different endings, and other scenes which are found in one version, are not in the other. No, I'm not giving anything away here.

This is an incredible film! The martial arts of Yuen Biao are unsurpassed. This film was nominated for a Hong Kong Film Award for Best Action Choreography. Wu Ma's heartbreaking performance was also nominated in the the Best Supporting Actor category...

  3. This is hands down Yuen Biao's and Cynthia Rothrock's best movie! I'm not much of a fan of either of them, but this movie displays some of the best martial arts I have seen. The movie is extremely violent as well with a little gun-fu. Don't get me wrong tho, there is more hand to hand stuff here that'll get you pumped up. The story, Yuen Biao is a lawyer trying to prosecute 2 mobster-like individuals for arranging a hit on Biao's friend and his friend's family...without evidence, Biao decides to take matters in his own hands, but he is being trailed by a policewoman (Rothrock)...Biao will end up being at the wrong place at wrong time, and Rothrock will wrongfully accuse him...from then on its pretty much about finding the truth and RIGHTING WRONGS. Both Biao and Rothrock show their best stuff here and all of the fighting is clear and insanely brutal...Don't be fooled of the age of the film, a lot of classic martial arts flicks come from the 80's. Not only that, but the stunts are real here as well, and there are some crazy and awesome acrobatic moves in this film (although Rothrock doesnt really do hers). As for which version to get, I got the dual sided Universe version and Im assuming this is the original since this is a major HK dvd distributor. Either way, this movie is simply one of the best...it's definitely somewhere in my top 10 best martial arts flick...think of this movie as Michelle Yeoh's Royal Warriors with a lot more fighting and violence. The ending is quite unusual and it'll probably make you think, "Oh, it's one of those movies". Enough praise, I could go on forever...all martial arts fans should at least view this movie if not own it...check it out!!!!!!

  4. I have tried searching for this film, that is known as ABOVE THE LAW, not knowing it is under another name. It is a very good film and quite entertaining too. Go buy it

  5. Yuen Biao stars as a vigilante defense attorney. When all of his witnesses are killed, he looks to take matters into his own hands. Cynthia Rothrock stars a mahjong playing, kung fu fighting policewoman, and Melvin Wong stars as the dirty police chief. The story has many illogical things happening, but if you have seen a lot of Hong Kong films, you know they do whatever they have to do to move onto the next fight scene. Fan Siu Wong has a great role as a young punk. He doesn't get to do any action, but it is pretty hard to believe that this is the same kid who only 5 years later would attain a physique that even Bruce Lee would have marveled at. So to sum the movie up briefly, Biao and Rothrock finally figure out Melvin Wong is the bad guy, and it all leads to a spectacular finish.

The story is not bad, but the action is definitely the best thing about this movie. Yuen Biao gives one of his very best physical performances, and Rothrock has a few nice fights including one of the better woman on woman fights of all time against Karen Sheperd. I always love to see the chain rope in action, and Karen Sheperd seems to be very skilled using it. Peter "Sugarfoot" Cunningham plays an assassin and has my favorite fight of the movie against Biao. They don't pull any punches and it is very intense. The final fight is good, but then there is a thrilling chase sequence that I was not expecting at all. Don't give up on this movie half way through if you don't like it, the last 30 minutes are worth a watch for any fan of action cinema.

    3.5/5

I recommend the Dragon Dynasty version under the title Above the Law. The picture quality is pretty much perfect and it has great interviews with Rothrock, Yuen Biao and Peter Cunningham.

  1. For anyone hoping to see Cynthia Rothrock reprise her roles in Tiger Claws One and Two, this movie will be disappointing. Ms. Rothrock makes only a cameo appearance in this film. One gets the definite impression that her appearance was more about box office than about improving the film. The movie itself is not the worst of its genre. Although there is some woefully sad acting in the non-fighting segments. The action is pretty good with Jalal Merhi serving as the protagonist. Cynthia fans would only want this video to complete their collection, not for the pitiful amount of time she appears in this film.

  2. This title has been available only in German and Russian language versions until now. This release has gotta be way easier to understand. So she`s not on screen every second. Anybody have CR competition video?

  3. This movie was good, but it was not what I expected. I assumed that Cynthia Rothrock would be one of the main characters throughout the whole movie, instead she had a small part. I was very disappointed because I am a Cynthia Rothrock fan. Otherwise, since I am a martial artist and I like martial art movies I recommend this movie. It contains good fighting scenes as well as a good plot, and an interesting kung fu style.

  4. Well if you're looking for Cynthia Rothrock action in this movie, there is none. It is not a CR movie, but pure Jalal Merhi!
If you like him sure, go ahead and grab this one.

  5. What started out as a decent movie, ended up in dissapointment and just an ok flick. Cynthia Rothrock is indeed only in the beginning of the movie, and the rest focuses on Jalal Mehri, who sorry to say, can not impress me very much. Loren Avedon (No Retreat, No Surrender 2 & 3, King of the Kickboxers) plays the bad guy in the movie. His acting actually seemed to improve over his cheesy acting in his other films, but I spoke up too soon by about mid-way through the film. The 3 ancient evil masters he calls upon are nothing spectacualr in the film, in fact they never speak. Their skills are alright and they consume most of the fight scenes in the movie. The final fights in the film are about average, involving Jalal Merhi versus the masters and the Loren Avedon character against his old master, who has now taught the Jalal Merhi character how to fight.

The ending of Tiger Claws 3 is a twist that is almost ridiculous. It kinda made me mad cause it allowed the movie to leave out Cynthia Rothrock when it really shouldn't have. Oh well, this is an average flick, basically good to complete the Tiger Claws trilogy, nothing more. Oh, and yes, No Bolo Young in this one, doh.
