- When Reno the Dog's cop companion, Lou Swanson (Carmine Caridi), is killed by a 'white supremacist' group of terrorists, he gets teamed up with tough cop Jake Wilder (Chuck Norris) to bring the bad guys down.
As you may have noticed, my movie summary for "Top Dog" was done in one whole sentence. That's because the story itself is quite simple for all audiences. It's the classic formula: good guys vs. bad guys. There are no `in-betweens' or `switching' of the good and bad so it's easy to keep track of who-is-who.
Unfortunately, though the classic formula `good vs. bad' most often works well, "Top Dog" had more `bad moviemaking' going for it than any `good moviemaking' to make this movie worth watching. Of course, it IS entertaining, but how far will one go to be `just' entertained?
Chuck Norris, never really being known for his acting abilities, seems at times to be enjoying himself but on the whole, he just lets everything flow on its own. Not once does he try to make his character his own, unique one. But that could be because the director does not really give him a chance to really do anything.
Instead, the audience is made to suffer somewhat by having to endure a bigger version of `Benji' for the hero of the film. There were mixed reviews on Amazon as to whether they liked Reno or not but in my opinion, Reno just did not impress. While, no doubt about it, we are continually made to believe that Reno is very intelligent (and sometimes he IS), there are times where he's just annoying. The ending was too contrived and moments where Reno is supposed to be cute just doesn't come out well. To sum up, everything Reno does is nothing special. If you've seen other `dog' movies like "K-19" or "Turner and Hooch", there is nothing in "Top Dog" which you haven't seen before.
The music was also badly done, especially the scene where the terrorists are trying to take out Chuck Norris at his house. The whole scene is supposed to be exciting, but the music utterly throws all suspense out. And... the terrorists are wearing clown masks?!?!
Ultimately, I believe that the main thing that went wrong with "Top Dog" is that the filmmakers couldn't quite make up their minds whether to make this a movie for children or for adults. While rated PG-13, the movie seems to be aimed for a younger audiences with having Reno the Dog as a main character. But at the same time, having terrorists and some violence would have children turning away, especially the murder of Lou Swanson. Adults however will probably be repelled from the storyline and the fact of having Reno the Dog in the story.
So, in conclusion, "Top Dog" can hardly be considered a classic so I really won't put this on my `recommend to others' list. My advice, if you still want to watch the movie, probably better to rent than actually buy it. Trust me, it's not worth it. The only thing that might interest viewers is watching Chuck Norris `do his thing', or shall we say, using his fighting skills. But definitely not top-notch stuff compared to other kung fu movies.
- Chuck Norris does it again people. The man can do no wrong. He takes such a stupid subject as a police dog movie, eats it and then craps out a police dog diamond. There's just too much to say about this movie. The characters are amazing, the script is beyond fantastic, the story has an awesome pace and is truly believable and the special effects and action sequences will blow your mind. Of course, there's also the Chuckster, ah Chuck with your wonderful beard and fantastic haircuit, you dazzle again. Chuck delivers his lines like a pro and his stunts are some of the best I've ever seen. There is almost nothing better in this world than putting on some Yanni and turning on a Chuck Norris movie like Top Dog and getting lost in the amazing world that Chuck Norris shapes for us. This is a must buy for any fan of fine film, it's definitely in the top 3 greatest movies of all time list.
- i find walker the greatest show on tv. show me why its not, and i will tell you differently. i have not seen the movie yet, but i LOVE ANYTHING WITH Chuck Norris in it. i dont care. i have met chuck, and he is so sweet, kind, and just like me. davyjonesforever@msn.com
- I would say this is the greatest Chuck Norris movie, no wait, the greatest movie of all-time except for one thing. And that is that all Chuck Norris movies are created equal and better then movies like the Godfather, Schlinder's List, Back Door Sluts 9, and Braveheart combined. Chuck Norris is a much better actor then Tom Hanks and Marlon Brando because he knows karate. Hell Chuck Norris invented Karate as well as Judo, Kung Fu, and Hamster style Jap Slapping. Do yourself a favor and buy this movie so you can call yourself a man. And if your a woman buy this movie and pray Chuck Norris comes to your house and gets you pregnant.

- I enjoyed this movie alot. The kids are the real stars, and though protecting the envirnment is one of the lessons the movie trys to show, and even better storyline are the people learning how to pick themselves up and not quit when life knocks them down. The father, played by Michael Beck, coming to realize what is really important. His failing and redemption was a major enjoyment for me in this movie. The kids caring for the mountain habitat is catching. And I thought the hijinks the kids used to stall for time against the bad developers was a riot! LOL!! I didn't mind the fantasy(Chuck's Warrior) parts at all, everyone should be able to dream alittle.
- This movie was geared towards The People's Spiritualty regarding Mother Earth and that life consists of a circle. I plan on purchasing this movie but only when it becomes available in dvd format.
- There's just something about Chuck Norris. Is it the hair? Is it the roundhouse kicks? Is it the lost list of credentials?
Who cares? He's Chuck Norris, and he's as Chuck Norris as he's ever been in Forest Warrior, a story about a group of young tree-huggers who embark on a fun-filled camping adventure to "the mountain." But wait, what's this? Ne'er-do-well lumberjacks and bad, meany business men want to log the mountain. Not if Chuck Norris has anything to say about it.
With the help of the bafoonish fighting skills of the antagonists, Chuck Norris saves the day again and again. And each time is more entertaining as he transforms into a hawk, and a wolf, and a bear, and the omnipresent spirit of the mountain, which is always there to lend a hand when situations get sticky.
The acting is awful, the script is worse, and the special effects are laughable. But honestly, what more can we expect from Walker, Texas Ranger? Clad in ill-fitting leather shirts and wielding the power of 100 men, Chuck Norris comes to the rescue, to yet again save America's youth from the greed of big business. Way to go, Mckenna!
- this movie is great for children to learn about the forrest if they are unable to get to one and how to appericate what mother nature has given us and to respect it and take care of it. I was raised up there and was happy to see someone make a movie like this.
- The reader will forgive me as I indulge in a bit of "I've-vacationed-where-this-film-was-made". For me and my wife, Hood River, Parkdale, and Lost Lake on the North slope of Mount Hood in Oregon is not merely our favourite place to vacation - it's the ONLY place to vacation!
Seeing the film, we recognize places we love to spend every summer that we can.
On our way to Lost Lake, we fuel up at the very gas station that was featured prominently in the film. We've rowed our boat right past the place wher the kids played in the waters of the lake with the baby bear.
The Mountain you see in the film is clearly Mount Hood, the most beautiful of all the Cascade Mountains.
Therefore, if having been to the lovely and serene place where this movie was made, and loving it as much as I do, gives me a built-in bias in favor of "Forest Warrior", then so be it.
Forget about the fact that Chuck Norris, in real life, supports the very politicians who support [and get their support from] the very kind of men his character fights against in the film. Let's just cut to the story.
The young drunk father, a former Sheriff's Deputy [once a real good one, so we are told], is now living in the bottle sinc ehe and his daughter have been bandoned by his wife, and he works in the gas station when he is sober enough to stay upright. The story of his fall and redemption plays well as it's intertwined with the fight that his daughter and her friends wage against a logging tycoon who looks at the forest and sees only dollar signs.
It is this sub-plot of fall and redemption that provides a theme to the film that many others overlook, regardless of whether they praise the film or condemn it.
The careful viewer will recognize Loretta Swit ["Hot Lips" from M*A*S*H]as the owner of the gas station, and mother of two of the boys in the "Lords of Tanglewood" group who later take on the loggers with guerilla tactics, and the help of Chuck Norris as a shape-shifting Spirit Of The Mountain.
Rent or buy this movie, but don't stop there! Follow that with a vacation of your own to Oregon, to Hood River, and Parkdale, and Lost Lake Resort up on Mount Hood. Get a tent and camp up there for a few days, and take it all in for yourself.
Experience the place where this film was made, and then you might feel for yourself what "Forest Warrior" is all about.

- This movie is definetly for the Die-Hard Norris fan. Full of action and adventure this movie is definetly a must see by fans every where especially if you've seen Missing in Actions I and II.
- When Braddock and his family are half way in the jungle, they were being caught by the Vietnamese officer name Quoc. What happen to him and his family after that? And did he got torture later on by the electricity
- When Braddock and his family are half way through the jungle, they were being caught by the Vietcong. What happen to Braddock and his family, and did braddock ever got torture by the electricity?
- Amongst all the generally ropey films that Chuck made with Cannon, this is one of the best.
Blistering action, excellent hand to hand combat scenes and pacey throughout, this film is not only essential for a Chuck fans but also for those who enjoy a no-holds-barred beat-em up with plenty of pyrotechnics for good measure.
- The final Missing in Action adventure is really just a remake of the first film, with a family oriented twist. When Colonel James Braddock (Chuck Norris) discovers that the girlfriend he believed dead is not only still alive, but that he had fathered a son as well, it takes him all of a millinanosecond to start preparing yet another single handed sneak attack on the PRV to get them out of there. Chuck's longtime stunt co-ordinator brother Aaron made his directing debut with this formula movie and he didn't do that bad of a job. Norris fans will find this hard to dislike.

- I love this movie. I have been looking for this movie on dvd ever since I saw it on USA Network. Chuck Norris and Judson Mills make an excellent fighting team. If you want an action movie with lots of martial arts footage, then this movie is for you.
- Long time martial arts hero Chuck Norris looks pretty good for a man in his sixties, but he leaves the real action in this one to his younger comrade, studly Judson Mills. The second PRESIDENT'S MAN in a USA Network made for TV movie, this film follows Norris and his sidekick's attempts to thwart a nuclear attack in Dallas. Aided by his comely Eurasian daughter, JENNIFER TUNG, the boys use some pretty preposterous methods to stop the threat. It's all testosterone, patriotic propaganda, but it works due to the charm of the performers and our inherent fear after the 9/11 attacks.
- This movie is by far one of my favorites but you can't take it seriously. In the movie, Chuck's protege "Deke Slater" nabs the terrorist leader Fidal Rasheed by sky-diving out of a stealth fighter over Afganistan and hang-gliding from southern Afganistan to the Indian Ocean in 5 minutes, where a nuclear submarine comes out of nowhere to rescue him. Chuck Norris seems to have forgotten that Afganistan is a landlocked country! The flag-waving (for both America and the great state of Texas) is hilarious. And Chuck Norris tries to take on a Yoda figure role by teaching Deke about using the "mind's eye" to sense his opponents and do things "never thought humanly possible".
- I LOVED THIS MOVIE ,THIS FILM WILL HIT HOME WITH TODAYS WORLD PROBLEMS, IT REALLY IS A MUST SEE, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.. IF YOU LIKE ACTION AND A DECENT PLOT, THIS FILM IS FOR YOU. I HOPE CHUCK DOES A PRESIDENTS MAN 3. IF HE DOES I WILL BE THE FIRST ON LINE TO BUY THE DVD..........

- I liked it as classic cinema noir. Norris' hair's- face, neck, back, rear end- all in sight. A winner! Forget Leonard Maltin's biased review. He is no Norris fan- never has been, the has-been.
- This is not a good movie. The only reason you should have this movie is if you are a SERIOUS Norris fan. The camera work could have been much bettter. Bottom line: There are much, MUCH better action films out there. Buy one of those. If you want to see this film, rent it, don't buy it.
- I was looking through my old videos and ran across this old classic. Wow, this movie is amazingly thorough and just plain beautiful. I hear Norris might reprise his role on Broadway. Forget this Walker garbage.
- Karate Cop is one of those rare films that boarder on the side of awful fun. Low budget and old plot are the first downfalls of this film. A great scene in this film is when the Asian cop and his African-American partner come out of a bar totally intoxicated. The both men head for home - walking their separate ways. The African-American cop is ambushed - and proceeds to run about 15 miles in five minutes. He follows this up with what seems like 5000 punches, kicks and whatever else fills time until he finally gets it - he's killed. I still think that he died of exhaustion rather than brutal force of the men chasing him. Remember that this guy was totally plastered coming out of the bar and out of nowhere he turns into Bruce Jenner! Add to this dubbing of all dialogs and you'll realize why you can't get this on DVD. I found this movie to be fun, incredibly awful fun...this is a great Sunday afternoon movie to watch with your friends.
- Thank you Conan for bringing the lever back! Bring this film to DVD ASAP.

- When I saw this movie, I remenbered my childhood because It was one of my favorites movies of Chuck Norris. It`s amazing the persecution between the sheriff and the mad.
- Chuck Norris plays in this very being tight and also probably creepy thriller a sheriff who has to do something to arrest psychopatischen and with a Serum which lends an immortality to the murderer. Very full of suspense and made good and also the witty inserts of his auxiliary sheriff do this film must for every Chuck Norris-Fan.
The film is also concerning the alternate factors of property and Nastily very worth seeing!
- SILENT RAGE 1982 , BRILLANT BRILLANT MOVIE ONE OF HIS BEST MOVIES FROM 1982, I REALLY THINK CHUCK NORRIS REALLY PLAYS HIS PART OF AN AMERICAN POLICE OFFICER BRILLANT.
- I got this movie based off a review by Sid The Elf. Not only that, but I considered myself to be a huge Norris fan in the 80's. He was the only white guy you'd associate with kung fu (I don't consider David Carradine part of that, sorry). There was Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Chuck Norris. I even had a neighbor who looked like Norris, and we used to call him Chuck Norris.
Anyway, I'm also a big sci-fi fan, so the combination of Norris and some creepy dude killing people with an axe was enough to sell me. The movie's about what you'd expect from the time period: predictable storyline with a predictable outcome. And they HAD to throw in some cheesy love-interest for Norris: some busty brunette who couldn't act to save her children's soul. The effects were cool for the time and was surprised to see the fat guy from Animal House try his role as deputy, Norris' sidekick.
A huge downfall to this DVD were the special features: trailers for really bad movies made in the 90's (Bad Boys, The Professional [which really wasn't bad]), and a trailer for this movie. BUT, if you're able to read 7 different foreign languages you can practice your grammar on this movie with the subtitles that are offered.
Overall, really not a bad movie. Worthy of a rent, but buy it only if you're a Norris fan.
- I saw this film many years ago and I thought it was a cool idea for a movie. Unfortunately, the film is hampered by low budget, bad acting, inane dialogue.....the list goes on and on. I'm not a big Chuck Norris fan, but this film which obviously borrowed some ideas from the film 'Halloween' has some small moments. It's pretty silly, but the killer is menacing and there are a few jolts here and there. I wouldn't buy it, but if you see it on cable..............you might get a few laughs. I rate it 1 1/2 stars.

5 comments about Eye for an Eye (1981).
- An Eye for an Eye gives you the feeling it was shot in Chuck's prime. It has a number of great actors other than Chuck - Christopher Lee, Mako and even Professor Toru Tanaka!. I didn't purchase the MGM version from the US as this page states it is in Pan & Scan. A widescreen version is available in Australia (Region 4) which I'm sure Amazon could order in for diehard fans. Brilliant!
- This movie is for Chuck Norris Fans Only (Like Me). The movie is good and has some nice fights but seems a bit old for today standards.
The DVD quality is good but you're not getting any special features en the Menu, just the movie with optional subs and the trailer.
But if you like Chuck Norris and B-Action films, you must see this movie or add it to your collection.
- An Eye For An Eye is easily one of Chuck Norris' best films, and not surprisingly, it's not because this is an Oscar-caliber film, or because it breaks some new ground.
Rather, An Eye For An Eye is great because it does what it's supposed to do very, very well. In fact, this is the first film of Norris' that really holds up well. In it, he plays a San Francisco cop who's partner gets killed during an arrest. A conspiracy develops that engulfs Norris, his dead partner's fiance who happens to be a TV news reporter, and Norris' martial arts instructor, played by Mako.
The fight scenes in this film are some of Norris' best, and having the fearsome wrestler/actor Professor Toru Tanaka as the main henchman in the film doesn't hurt either. Mako provides great comic relief, and Richard Roundtree is solid as Norris' superior officer.
An Eye For An Eye is a great martial arts/action film. One that Chuck Norris can be very proud to have on his list of credits.
- I want to give this movie 4 stars. Mainly because it has Mako, and Prof. Toru Tanaka. But without Chuck's 'stache...I can't. In all seriousness though. this movie is actually one of my favorites by Chuck. It's got a touch of the dectective story to it. The acting is better than usual in a chuck Norris flick. And, most importantly, the fight scenes are good.
I can't speak for anyone else, but when it comes to martial arts films, one thing matters above all else and that's fight scene choreography. Of course different eras and styles have different standards. As far as American martial arts, Chuck is still the standard in my opinion...all due respect to Billy Blanks, Cynthia Rothrock, et al. This title, along with a few others, show Chuck's prowess as a martial artist in a way that later became lost in an array of spinning back fists, round house kicks and cheesy scripts (can anyone say, "The President's Man"?).
Overal this movie is fun, with some good fight scenes and a memorable performance by the Professor. Definately worth a view!!
- Chick Norris' "An Eye for An Eye" followed "The Octagon" and while the fight scenes were not anywhere as good in this movie as the ninja crazed flick, it did bolster nice performances from Christopher Lee, Mako, and yes, Chuck Norris. Here Chuck begins to finally appear somewhat comfortable as an actor. Prof. Tanaka (the really big villain) looks intimidating, but the final fight scene between him and Chuck is very limited. Matter of fact, Chuck's fight scenes appear more in line with his character. He is as Mako asserts, a little sloppy at times, but believable as one tough cop.
