5 comments about Oxo Good Grips Paring and Mini Chef Knife Set.
- The only reason that I give the mini chef knife (I have not used the paring knife) one star is because its size has sometimes come in handy and the blade is extremely sharp.
WORDS OF WARNING - <1> the grip has a tendency to move/slide while you are using the knife... do not use this knife to cut anything that would require significant pressure! <2> The back side of the blade is also very sharp! I have better than average culinary skills and have cut myself twice on the back of this knife. <3> Though it is a small, cute knife, only a fool would think that this knife would be a good "junior" knife for a kid who wants to cut and cook like Mommy (or in my case, Daddy).
- I love OXO products and own almost every product, but these knives are very poorly made. I had three sets, and the handles eventually came off on all six knives- very unsafe! Some handles slipped off, and some snapped off. I'm surprised OXO is still making and selling these knives, because the poor quality really tarnishes their reputation.
- My daughter received these knives as a wedding gift and they are used more than any in her kitchen. They aren't the quality of the best German knives but if you don't put them in the dishwasher they will be knives you will enjoy for a long time.
- I own this set and it was a complete waste of money. I was originally attracted to these knives because I own a number of other Oxo Good Grips products and, with the exception of the garlic press (which has a mediocre design and rubber handles that fall off), I have been very pleased with the quality of their products. There are two problems with these knives:
1) The blades are made from cheap stainless steel that will not take or keep an edge. They are dull to the point of being dangerous and notwithstanding several attempts with my diamond sharpener, could not be made sharp. I would use a serated steak knife before I would use one of these knives.
2) The handles are very poor in design and construction. They have a portion of rubber ridges that are very soft and so flexible that they prevent obtaining a decent grip on the knife. They also are not shaped in a particularly ergonomic fashion and appear, as other people have commented, as if they would not stay long on the knife under any sort of heavy use.
Avoid these knives - there are a multitude of better alternatives out there. Although I have no recommendations for a replacement for the small chef's knife, I do have a recommendation if you are looking for a good moderately priced paring knife: buy one of the Henckels or Victorinox plastic-handled 3" paring knives available here for around four dollars. These parers (I have one of each brand and they are similar in design, shape and quality) will take a nice edge, fit the hand much better and are less expensive, to boot. If you're willing to splurge a bit, I can highly recommend Kyocera's 3" ceramic paring knife. It will set you back thirty bucks or so, but it will have the sharpest edge you've ever experienced on a knife, sharp enough to cut a grape into a slice that is a fraction of a millimeter thick, think enough to be completely transparent.
- I bought this for the chef knife, the paring knife was just a bonus. You'll be surprised how often you reach for the mini chef knife to cut vegetables, slice cheese, you name it. I bought one at a grocery store while on vacation then came home and ordered a few more through Amazon, it's that handy. It's thin, sharp, easy to handle and inexpensive. Great for camping too.

- This has become my very favorite utility knife in the very short time I've owned it. It's a sort of long parer, but it works. It's least good as a bread knife, but performed rather well. Many people will find it quite useful.

- Not as good as the better brands, but doesn't have their price-tag either. For everyday slicing, esp. bagels, bread, cake, etc. this is a very comfortable and useful knife. Although I have high-end knives for real prep work, this probably gets more use as an all-around, easy to grab knife.
- I purchased this knife for my aunt who has arthritis and has trouble gripping objects. She found the knife to be very comfortable to hold, well balanced and sharp enough to cut a ripe tomato. I have always been impressed with OXO kitchen tools and this knife is no exceptionOXO Good Grips Professional 5-Inch Serrated Utility Knife.
- Dear Knife, Where have you been all my life? How could I have lived for so long without you? I love to hold you in my hands everyday and cut to my hearts content. My hands never tire of holding you. You stun all the other knives with your serrated sharpness. May we both live long happy lives with each other. XXXX

- How do you improve on perfection? By adding a perfect paring knife to the best vegetable peeler in the World: OXO.
This is a handy little kitchen necessity that is sharp and takes to resharpening well. It is very reasonably priced and a great value.
- I have hand contractures from scleroderma and knew I needed better knives the day one went flying out of my hand while preparing dinner and nearly impaled the cat! The soft, built-up handles are all I can use safely - my fingers get numb from cold or wet from prepping but can still grip these handles. One disappointment is rust on the blades from putting them in the dishwasher (per OXO customer service, they should be hand-washed) but the marks are limited and all still sharpen and work fine.
- This has become one of my favorite knives to use on an everyday basis. It feels great in my hand and I have no regrets for buying this knife.

- These is a good knife and yes, the grip is excelent.
But, it get rusty very easily. It's a shame.
- This is an unpretentious, capable tool that is likely to get lost between $5 ginsus and $240 Shuns. It is comfortable to use, has reasonably good steel, and is balanced well. It is a good using knife and the attractive price just sweetens the deal. Do the math--a solid tool for $20 something, or a bit more weight and marketing for $120 to $240.
I am a bit of a tool nut, and I own German Wusthoff, French Sabatier and Calphalon knives made with German steel. They are fine knives, but let's face it, they can't do anything the good grips knife can't. Yes, a bit more weight comes in handy when you're doing serious chopping for hours on end, but I try to avoid that. I also favor a 10" cooks knife, but most opt for the 8" model. This is an ideal primary knife for a new cook who is ready to go, but too smart to drop a bundle on a brand name.
Rust has not been a concern, but I keep my blades clean. I don't throw them in the dishwasher and I steel them often.
- Its a Must have for Any non professional, or an student chef, Exelent Knife well balanced.

5 comments about Oxo Good Grips Professional 4-Inch Mini Santoku Knife.
- Really good fit and finish. Quite sharp and very good to handle. Though it has only been a few days.. the real test of a knife is in the long run. So far I am happy.
- I love this knife! It is my first choice now when cooking! It's perfect for fruit, and taco night! Definitely a great purchase and the handle is GREAT on this one!
- I use this knife all the time! It's a perfect little knife.....feels great in my hand....and the PRICE?!?! How could you beat that! If you are just looking for a handy little knife, for a awesome price.....THIS IS THE ONE!!
- As long as a knife is sharp and has a good feel, I'm satisfied. I've never felt that a particular knife was my "favorite." But that's changed with the OXO Good Grips 4-Inch Mini Santoku Knife.
It's razor-sharp, has those indentations that help things not stick to it, a very good rocking curve on the blade, and a grippy handle with a very pleasing shape. But the best part is the proportionately very wide blade (1 5/8"), which gives you great control. You can cut a truly straight line through anything, for example an onion or tomato or salami, where a narrower knife, say a paring knife, might veer off. The Japanese-style blade is also thinner and has a more acute angle than a conventional knife, which allows you to cut very thin slices.
And the price makes it a bargain.
- I bought this Oxo 4-inch Santoku knife for mom for Mother's Day. She is thrilled with it. She has terrible osteoarthritis, and has already had one joint replacement in her dominant hand, so it is not easy for her to find kitchen tools she can comfortably use.
She cut up a cantaloupe the other day with no problem. Normally, she would avoid even buying the melon because she would have a hard time preparing it. We are both very happy with this knife.

5 comments about Oxo Good Grips Professional 6-Inch Chef's Knife.
- This is our first "chef's" knife, so my opinion may not carry as much wieght as more experinced cooks.
This knife is the perfect size for cutting chopping dicing etc. It's the new workhorse in our kitchen. the knife is quite sharp after 3 month's of moderate use.
- My wife and I have been looking for a good set of knives for a while now. We were comparing Henckels, Wusthof, and Shun. Then we found OXO Professional. I must say, this knife is as good as those if not better. It has a great balance and feel. It slices, dices, chops, cuts among the best of chef knives. The non-slip handle is great! I have never lost my grip even when the handle was completely wet. This knife is a good comparison to Wusthof Grand Prix II; they are virtually the same except OXO is MUCH cheaper!
We bought this knife to decide if we wanted to buy the complete OXO Professional set and after handling this knife, we decided to buy the complete set. And at $100 for the entire set, you are saving anywhere from $600 - $1000 over the competition!!
Take it from me, if you are looking for good knives at a good price, give OXO a try.
- This is the knife I reach for most often. I have two other full size chef knives, plus a smaller chef knife of another brand. But this one feels the best in my hand, doesn't slip, and goes into the dishwasher with ease. It is great for small and medium chopping jobs, which is generally the case for my small family. I have used it for a year and it retains its sharpness with a few passes of a ceramic knife sharpener.
- I bought several Oxo knives from Amazon. They are well balanced and very sharp. I keep them sharp with a ceramic sharpener. I have 2 professional knives that I spent over $50 each for and these knives do not perform any better than the Oxo knives. I love every Oxo kitchen product I've ever bought.
- I bought this knife as I wanted a smaller chef's knife, and wasn't in the mood to cough up $50 - $70 for a Henckels. Much to my surprise, I really prefer the feel of this knife in my hand to the feel of my Henckels (I have a set of Henckels Gourmet - not top of the line, but not the cheapest either).
I have used the Oxo for six months, and it remains sharp. I hand-wash and dry it every time I use it, and run it through my ceramic knife sharpener a couple of times before putting it back in the block. I will not hesitate to buy more Oxo knives. The blade seems quite good, and the balance and comfort-level is excellent.

- I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this knife. It is very sharp and has a wonderful shape and weight. The smaller one is of the same quality.
- I like this knife a lot,
it's sharp, sleek, and easy to use.
The one thing I didn't like is that ususally with Santoku knives the product that you're cutting doesn't stick to the knife, which allows you to cut faster, but I find that potatoes stick to this knife.
Still very much worth the inexpensive price for a reliable knife.
- This is the first time I've bought "professional" knives and I love these. Even my husband who has arthritis can easily grip the knives. They are sharp, easy to hold and cut anything we've used them on.
- I actually got this one for my husband. This is HIS choice knife (I prefer the smaller one). He uses it all the time, for meats, for veggies. The handle is fantastic on it, allowing for GREAT control over the knife and wonderful balance!
- Learn how to slice or cut its really fast with this knife, Good Grip, Balance. I brougth this for my wife (Chef Student) and she love it. Is the best quality for such low price.

5 comments about Oxo Good Grips Corer.
- This corer was a waste of money. The surfaces of the fruit turn brown instantly everywhere the corer touches. At first I thought it was the type of fruit - an apple variety I don't normally use - but the same instant and ugly browning occurred on 4 varieties of apples and 3 types of pears. Even sprinkling lemon juice on the fruit immediately did not stop the discoloration. Every piece of fruit touched by this corer had to be retrimmed.
- I like eating apple wedges with skin on, and so does my husband. However he doesnt like to fiddle with paring knives and I sometimes skip this healthy snack, just from laziness. It sometimes seems a lot of work performing the usual quartering and then cutting out little pieces of core from the quarter, ending with core bits and seeds and juice dripped around. I decided to try a corer, so I initially purchased another brand of corer, last month , but after one use I repackaged it and took it back - the cut diameter was way too small for the size of apples i like (large Red Delicious). Most of the core was still inside the apple! Then I ordered this OXO one from Amazon, due to the good reviews.
I can say yes it really works very well. Actually so well that my husband will now fix himself his own apple snacks with it.
This OXO corer is easy to handle, easy to clean, and it takes out a decent sized core, with almost no missed core left behind. It removes a circle of twice the area of the old useless one i returned. The actual inner diameter of the OXO corer is 3/4 inch or 19 mm. The thickness of the actual steel is 1 mm. The length of the steel is just around 4 inches long and the rubber handle is just about 4 inches long. The rubber handle is oval in cross section and there is decent sized hole at the end of the handle for hanging it up . There are nice little rubber "fins" build in to the rubber handle to make pressing down easy on the thumb and fingertips.
For the person who was concerned about the browning on the cut surface: yes this happens , it hardly makes the apple piece unpalatable, but to explain what is happening - this is just a bit of pulverized apple flesh that has been deposited on the cut surface, made of juice and broken cells of the apple which browns so fast in air, you see it within seconds. The color is natural oxidation of the fruit juice/pulp, it's not from the corer instrument. When you use the corer, the "cut" surface is a saw cut, so it is microscopically a bit more ragged than when using a knife. If the corer were to have a sharp tapered edge I imagine it would be a lot more expensive to manufacture, and if it were made of very thin steel the tool would be flimsy . Anyway if it's important to have the core be white, just rinse/drop the cored apple in to a anti-browning solution right away until you are ready to do whatever else you are doing to segment up the fruit. But I think unless entering your apple recipe in the county fair, most people would agree they would not bother with this blanching the core procedure.
I gave a rating of only 4 stars becuase I can't say how long it will be servicable for, however it does appear to be well made. I would only say that for the price, if it lasts me one year of coring just one apple per day, it will have definitely paid for itself, and should then be rated 5 stars.
- This corer works beautifully every time. No more seeds left in an apple after coring. I find that it works much better to use this followed by a knife to make apple slices than to use those corer/slicer tools, as the latter are frequently too small, or move through the apple at an angle, leaving seeds in the slices.
- hey, it takes out cores. It's hard to get too excited about about that but hey...
- I use this corer everyday. It is very easy to use and works great. I have had it for about a month now and it is the best corer I have had. I would recommend it.

5 comments about Oxo Good Grips Professional 14-Piece Knife Block Set.
- I love these knives, sharp, easy grip. Just need a smaller chef's knife. Overall, I love this set and it gets great compliments from my guests. Looks good. works better.
- So far this has been a great set. I like each individual knife - they are definitely very sharp so far. I like the style and design of the knife set. The wooden block is a little big for me, but otherwise it is very nice. In time we will see how well they sharpen and how well the 'rubber' like handles hold up. (that was my only concern)
- I am very satified with the Oxo knives. I agree with the reviewer who said the set's only fault is that it is missing the small chef's knife, which I did order to fill one of the empty slots in the block. The scissors slot will accomodate any type of scissors. I use it to hold my kitchen shears. I do hand wash the knives, dry them thoroughly with a dish towel, and return them to the block immediately.
- These Oxo knives are wonderful!! I've been cooking for more than 20 years and have tried several knives. These are actually the ones I like the best. They are comfortable in the hand with a contour grip. If you use the sharpening steel as directed, they stay very sharp, be careful. I could not be happier with this purchase and recommend these knives to everyone!!!! Don't look any further, this is a great deal and a great product!!
- Great value for the price. Realistically, you are going to pay several, several times more for better quality. These are stamped, but high end stamped, which is probably better than low end forged. Decent block, with room for three more knives not included in the set, but not necessary. Would be excellent for new homeowner or newlyweds who need decent quality knives for daily use, and are not snobby.
