- As a daily lunch carrier, having a cover for a pairing knife is key if you want to cut up fresh fruit and veggies and not worry about the knife cutting through your lunch box. I have placed these in the dishwasher (w/out heat dry) and have been very pleased.

- This is easily my favorite chef's knife in a collection of over 2 dozen, ranging from Wustof classic and cordon bleu, Shun, Global, Mundial,
MAC, Henckels ProS, 4 star 5star, Mercer, Calphalon, etc.
The Messermeister has a wider blade than almost anything out there, but is suprisingly easy to lift and hold. The handle is on the smaller side, not quite as small as Japanese knifes, but not uncomfortably large. The handle also has a small spot to engrave your initials so you can tell it apart from the other chef's knifes, but in 20 something professional kitchens from coast to coast I have never come across anyone else who carries these knives.
The bolster of the knife lacks the wide heel of all but the cheapest and newest high end knives that makes it easy to sharpen and maintain, and avoids that annoying "bump" you always develop after 6months of work on every other 10"chef's I own.
The editorial review may or may not mention that from the factory it comes with a much sharper blade angle than any other knife available, and it is easily the sharpest out of the box chef knife I have ever used, including the japanese models.
All in all, it is the best knife I have ever owned, and the extra 4or5% that it costs over the other high end chefs knifes is more than worth it and in hind sight even if it were a hundred dollars more it would still be the best purchase I have ever made.
- Two great friends of mine gave me this Messermeister knife--actually, the Meridien Elite version, which simply has a different handle design. They explained that someone who loved cooking and entertaining the way I did shouldn't have my crappy knives. That was 5 years ago, and this knife still amazes and delights me. True, it is very large, and I use it for big items, like carving a huge brisket. But it also remains my favorite knife for routine tasks, like cutting onions and garlic, and even for some fine work (the tip alone can be used on tiny tasks, like scooping out a bruised bit on a peeled apple). The handle remains in absolutely perfect condition after more or less daily use for 5 years. (I don't put it in the dishwasher, though, so your mileage might vary if you do that.) This knife is remarkable!

5 comments about Messermeister Chantry Sharpener.
- I bought this product as a gift, having bought one for myself some months ago. My experience with the product has been very favorable. It really does take all the skill and expertise out of using a sharpening steel -- and the results are extremely sharp! It is a brilliant, rugged, low-tech design: the steels work in foolproof fashion; the handle secures the machine firmly while in use; it takes very little effort to use. It comes in a variety of versatile colors, so you'll keep it sitting pretty, ready for touch-ups, on the kitchen counter. Maybe I'm so keen (get it?) because it was designed by my favorite designer, the Brit, Robert Welch.
- Works good, and works fast. Even brought back to life a knife I ruined with a steel.
- I received this as a christmas present last year and when I ran my knives through it they came out razor sharp. Previously I have used Chief's Choice electric sharpener and I found my knives only came out so-so sharp. The Chantry is fast, easy and it does not remove a lot of metal so that the knives are not damaged. I truly can't say enough about this knife sharpener.
- This sharpener is easy to use, takes up very little space in my tiny galley kitchen, and actually works well. It has no fussy little pieces to deal with.
- I was looking for a good sharpener and I found one. The quality is great and very sturdy but when it come to sharpening knives, look else ware. When you run the blade through the two rods, the edge of the blade becomes a little bent. When I say bent, I mean that the edge of the blade it either curved to the left or the right. I don't blame Messermeister at all because it's how this sharpener is made. Others have made the same type of sharpener and I don't think you'll find better quality than this type. Maybe I'm not using is right, but I prefer the old fashioned sharpening rod. It takes a bit of practice to use a sharpening rod but for me, it works the best as it does for most people.
