5 comments about Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 10-Inch Serrated Bread Knife/Slicer Knife.
- A recent obsession for baking bread lead to the realization that the standard bread knife included in my cutlery set wouldn't 'cut it' with fresh baked bread.
My knife simply tore the bread up.
Deciding I was now a serious bread baker meant I'd need a serious bread knife. Browsing through Amazon's selection I came upon this Chicago Cutlery beauty. The photo reminded of the same knife my mother had used in my childhood, but when it arrived it truly was bigger and better than my mom's old knife.
I love it and it doesn't tear up my bread!
- The quality of this knife is good for the amount of jack. This knife will tackle any soft breads and cakes with ease. The one problem that I have run into with this knife however, is that the widley spaced teeth can be troublesome when cutting hard crusty breads. Since the teeth are widley spaced, it is prone to skipping if you are not careful. In short, skipping knife blade = sliced fingers. This is problematic to me since most of the bread I bake is rustic/french style bread. In all fairness, this knife has multiple purposes, but if you are looking for a good knife to cut those lovely baguettes you've been laboring over so insatiably, go with something with smaller teeth.
- It's a little hard to use for those of us with small hands, but other than that, it works like a charm. It's a very long blade, which is perfect for larger, round breads.
- Excellent quality for the price paid. Liked it so much I'm going to buy another one for my daughter.
- Good quality, matched with an excellent price.
No need to spend a lot for a good slicer.
I also like the feel of the wood handle.

- Cook's Illustrated gave this knife top marks, so I bought it. They were absolutely right. Best tomato slicer, bread slicer, meat slicer I have ever used. Great price!!
- I highly recommend this bread knife.
It works very well with the big loaves of gluten-free crusty French bread I make in regular loaf pans for regular size sandwich bread.
- It's great for the reasons others mention. But be forwarned that this knife is huge. It's 15 inches long in total - more than my big 10-inch chef's knife. Most standard knife blocks have only one slot that would hold a knife this big, and that's the slot for your big chef's knife.
My wife says this knife is way too big for her. She much prefers the Good Grips bread knife.OXO Good Grips 8" Bread Knife
- This knife was recommended by Cook's Illustrated. It is very sharp and works great. It might be a little large for cutting smaller items.
- This knife is light-weight, comfortable to use, and the blade cuts through bread easily without tearing it. The only problem is that it's beveled on one side only, which means that it naturally pulls to one side. I have to be careful to apply the right amount of pressure to keep it slicing straight. A disappointing flaw in what would have been the perfect bread knife!

5 comments about OXO Good Grips Professional 14-Piece Knife Block Set.
- After a number of go-rounds with cheap, dull knife sets that could have doubled as spoons, I decided I wanted some really good knives. Wusthof or Henckels for me, nothing less. Then I looked at the prices that these sets were commanding, and I suddenly found myself much more contented with my rubbishy, cheap knives.
I really just stumbled across this set while perusing Amazon one day. It had received such good reviews that I figured I could take a chance and spend the eighty clams needed to purchase it.
These are good knives. They arrived extremely sharp right out of the box. Whereas in the past I always defaulted to the large chef's knife for most cutting and chopping tasks, it's not necessary to do that with these. They're all sharp, well-balanced, and do their respective jobs admirably.
One evening, while chopping some vegetables, I set the chef's knife down on the counter, with the blade angled slightly upwards. Like an idiot, I accidentally slid the tip of one finger ever so briefly and lightly against the upturned blade. Now, for all my previous knife sets, that wouldn't have done a thing. But this knife is so sharp that it sliced me open quite handily, and the thing is, I didn't feel any pain while it was doing it. It's REALLY sharp.
I'm still trying to learn how to use the sharpener so as not to wreck the blades. Nevertheless, this is an excellent knife set at a reasonable price, and I do recommend it.
- The other reviews here persuaded me to give this knife set a try, and I haven't been disappointed. Sharp knives make such a huge difference. It's funny, though, I noticed in some of the reviews that people mentioned getting cut. I've accidentally cut myself with these knives too. And the weird thing is I didn't notice it when it happened. Sneaky knives. I'm wondering if it might not actually be the top part of the blade that's cutting me. It's somewhat sharp too. If this set were truly dishwasher-safe, it would be ideal. I noticed the description here says they're dishwasher-safe, but the box says otherwise. I tried running some of them through the dishwasher once and got mysterious brown spots. They came off, but I won't do that again. I guess most knives can't maintain a sharp edge after being run through the dishwasher repeatedly anyway. All in all, a great purchase.
- I dont cook that often however I am quite satisfied with the quality of this item.
- All my life, I have purchased inexpensive knives, only to have very dull blades in a short period of time. I don't think I have EVER purchased a REAL knife other than those Ginsu knives and the ones from the supermarket. I say all of this because these OXO professional knives have shown me the error of my ways.
These are GREAT knives, the blades are sharp and cutting just every day food is a true joy!! I love them. Every one should experience what a sharp knife is really like.
- This set looks great and the knives are very well made for the price. The OXO Good Grips really do feel nice to work with, secure when cutting and easy to hold. This set is not the same calibur as some of the very pricey gourmet knives, but for the money, it is a great value.

- These knives are ULTRA SHARP! I have to be really careful when washing these, and I've never had that problem with other knives. They are just great!
- I've had this knife set for more than 2 years, and they've been pretty good. They aren't quite as sharp as they used to be, though you can still cut (by tearing), since they're serrated.
I didn't realize these were serrated - I just saw that they were Henckels and on sale. Next time, read the description carefully.
Most of the people who have used these knives haven't been really impressed with them. Unlike unserrated knives, these require a slight sawing motion to cut; it makes a mess of slicing tomatoes. It's very difficult to sharpen serrated knives, so you'll have to get it done by a professional.
If I'd known that these were serrated, I wouldn't have bought them so I could save my money for a real Henckels set.
Also, the additional cheese knife doesn't fit into the block, so some knife has to go in a drawer.
- These knives are an excellent value. I read several of the product reviews before I purchased these knives and found the reviews to be right on the mark. The company, J. A. Henckels, is well respected and the product lives up to their excellent reputation.
- This knife set is great! It is a good deal for the money, and am very satisfied with it.
- don't waste your time or money on this garbage. glad i only spent 10$ on mine, i only wasted 9.99$. the single taper on them drives to one side never letting you cut an even slice of anything. try to cross cut a pound of bacon and all you get is the teeth-like serrations all clogged up, making the knife as useful as a baseball bat. no knife stays sharp, simply get a nice sharpener and a good knife, or just go out to eat.

5 comments about Chef's Choice M130 Professional Knife-Sharpening Station, Platinum.
- Easy to use, sharpens all types of knives quickly. Read the instructions and don't over sharpen!
- I bought the sharpening station because it was highly rated by cooks illustrated. It is a great piece of equipment, I have expensive knives and want to keep them sharp without damaging the blades, this did the job. My husband noticed immediately how sharp the knives were. I highly recommend it, I just read the instructions first and practiced using a cheap knife and the results were amazing.
- This product does quickly what no other device has done for me before. It truly sharpens knives to a fine honed edge in just a few seconds, with very little skill required and a short learning curve.
Purists will still want the kind of shape and edge that a stone will produce after many minutes of careful (and often unsuccessful in my hands) work. But this product has been well thought out, seems pretty sturdy and it works. Large thick blades may not fit well.
It allows you to get two types of edge. One is a smooth, finely honed edge that cuts very smoothly. I don't prefer that. The other is also a finely honed edge, but there is just enough irregularities on the edge to give a momentary sawing action as it starts to cut. I am not enough of an aficionado to have different knives with different types of edges. I prefer the "bite".
There are a couple of ways to know your knife is well honed. Look at the edge while holding the blade directly perpendicular to your line of vision. A well-honed edge will not reflect any light, because the edge is actually thinner than the wavelengths of visible light. The other way is to touch the edge to your thumbnail and try to pull it sideways (NOT in a cutting direction) across the nail. If it is dull, it will slide. If it sharp, it will "stick".
The Chef's Choice M130 achieves that level of sharpening in moments.
- Sharp knives are very important to making cooking fun. This gadget helps me keep all my knives sharp and tuned. Cutting tomatoes should be a breeze!
- it is okay for a simple chopping for a time or two. Not worth the money. Not anywhere close to professional sharping and I worked in restaurant. I am still are going back to my sharping stone which is still the best currently and last the longest.

5 comments about R H Forschner 7-inch Santoku Knife, Granton Edge, Black Fibrox Handle.
- This is the 3rd R H Forschner knife with Fibrox Handle that I've purchased. The 3 combined cost less than 1 of my big name knifes. I prefer to use these, the plain handles give a good firm grip and the blades remain sharp longer.
- I received my knife a couple of days ago. I own an expensive set of German knives and was curious about how a santoku knife works. Yet, I didn't want to spend a lot of money to find out! So far, I've used the knife to slice a frozen roll of sausage, peel an orange, chop an onion, slice bread, and chop a tomato. The results were fantastic! The blade is extremely sharp, so be careful. I've knicked my fingers a couple of times, but I'm sure I'll improve as I become more familiar with how to use the knife. My husband enjoys the knife too. Good knife and good value. I only wish I had a way to store it because it won't fit in the knife block I have.
- The Forschner is just about the best Santoku in a shorter length that I have tried so far. The Forschner chef's knife was rated the best by America's Test Kitchen so I thought I'd give this one a try. For the low price, it's great. I've tried lots of other knives by other manufacturers and some of the higher-priced, big-name brands I wouldn't give 2 cents for. On one in particular, the spine was so sharp that it sliced open my hand. The only downside to this line of Forschners is the handle. It is not ergonomic and is hard to hold in a "chef's pinch grip".
- Aside from the santoku's incredible popularity right now, this blade offers razor sharp utility at an entry level price. Cook's Illustrated and chefs world wide agree that with Forschner you are getting the most bang for your buck in the industry, and this knife is no exception.
It remains well balanced despite its light weight, which allows me to use this blade for a wide range of applications without any hand fatigue. The edge returns to form time and time again, and stays so sharp that I exercise special care when handling it.
I know there is a time and a place for bringing out more spendy pieces, but more often than not I find myself reaching for a Forschner instead of a much higher priced, heavier blade.
- I did a lot of research before purchasing this Santoku. I am into cooking. I was prepared to buy one of the two hundred dollar plus hand forged Japanese Santoku's available from one of my specialty catalogs when I read in Cook's Illustrated that in their tests the Forschner Chef Knife had beaten out some of the most expensive chef knives available and had become a favorite of chefs in their test kitchen. I figured the construction and quality of the Forschner Santoku and the Forschner Chef Knife would be equivalent. I bought it from Amazon and have used it on numerous occasions and I love it. Well balanced, sturdy, yet light weight, it is incredibly sharp right out of the package and easy to maintain. The handle is very comfortable and grips well even when wet. What more could you ask for from a knife under $30?

5 comments about R H Forschner 3.25-inch Paring Knife, Large Black Handle.
- This knife was bought out of jar on the counter of the Robertson's Meats main store in OK. I got it as a whim needing to cut a summer sausage in the car. What a surprise...it has been great and I have bought 3 more.
What is the best thing in a knife is how long it keeps it's edge and how well it sharpens. This knife beats any other brand in this category. Yes the handle is simple and small.
No other knife let's me slice a block of hard cheese paper thin without much thinking about it and other's always drift. The beauty is in the thin blade...it is not flimsy...thinness of the blade is what makes the knife and yet it is durable.
- Just like its big brother, the Forschner 8-inch Chef Knife (see my review), this one does the job,and is relatively inexpensive. If it had a little more heft, and a slightly longer handle I would have given it five stars.
- This knife is handy for peeling apples and also for slicing. The knife is small and lightweight with good balance and the handle is textured so it doesn't slip. And it's sharp! I've used it to slice lemons, carrots, potatoes, apples, etc. and it cuts smoothly with little effort. This is a smaller than usual paring knife; I think the standard size has a 4" blade, but the length is great for fine mincing of garlic and herbs. Good value for the money.
- Everything I am looking for in a paring knife... I will be buying another one after discovering how great it works for me. Fantastic price for such an awesome knife.
- This is absolutely the best paring knife I've ever purchased. I bought it after reading in Cooks Illustrated that it beat its more expensive peers in essentially all of their tests, and it has done the same in my kitchen. It is a little more flexible than most paring knives, though still rigid enough to be used with anything. I end up using it for tasks that would normally require a much larger chef's knife because it's so convenient and comfortable.
I generally use Wusthof Classic knives, including a Wüsthof Gourmet 4-Inch Paring Knife that costs $19. That's enough to buy three of these perfect little Forschner knives and still have some money left over. Do yourself a favor and buy the three Forschner ones.
Since my original purchase, I have bought at least 5 more of these knives for myself and others. Never will your loved ones be so thankful for a $5 gift!
I've had these knives for a while and have had no issues with them losing sharpness -- I occasionally run the knife over a sharpening steel just to make sure the blade is still aligned, but it really shouldn't require any care. And if you do have any problems -- hey, it only cost five bucks.

- I had been planning on ordering this knife set for a very long time! I finally found the perfect deal! They were a FREE gift along with my R Ray pan set! Can't be free! However, when I got them, I realized just how great they are, and I would not have been upset if I'd had to pay for them! The wooden box is SO nice & sturdy, you won't be throwing it away. Initially I thought I'd only be really using the larger knife, but I find myself grabbing the small knife instead of a paring knife many times. The silicone handles make for very safe use! You won't worry about it slipping out of your hands. If you have a child who is learning to cook, you could each use a knife and feel safe it won't slide out of their hand (provided they're old enough to be using a knife at all!). Excellent knife set, you'll love it.
- Love these knives so much, I bought a set for my mother and a set for my mother in law!

Sharp and comfortable to use. One does not need anything more.
- These knives are amazing. Made me realize how mediocre the set I already had actually is. I highly recommend this.

- It really works! Your old knives will be sharp, and feel like new again. I recommend this product.
- A great sharpener for the price. I turned an old, dull and even deeply chipped knife into a fine piece of cutlery as if it were brand new and even better. It has also worked great on a few pocket knives and a thrower as well. 4 stars has been given because it will slow and even stop with quite a bit less than heavy pressure applied. I recommend this item to anyone who wants a good sharpener for household use, and especially for anyone sharpening on a budget.
- Don't expect your blade to be like new, but it does work to a degree however. For the time and effort saved, its worth it I would say.
- Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener
Love this sharpener. It's really small and compact. It sharpens first a rough cut and then you run the knife through the final finishing cut. Nice sharp knives. Good product. It's a keeper and the price is fair.
- After struggling with dull knives for years I finally found a sharpener that works. Sure makes cutting much easier!

- This is the best knife I have ever used in my life! The reviews were excellent on this knife. Looking to buy a complete set!!
- I ordered this knife based on the great reviews it got here. I was disappointed. The knife was not particularly sharp when it arrived, and sharpening it has not helped. It is unwieldy and cheap feeling. I have a slightly smaller chef's knife with a heavier handle that is vastly better and not much more expensive. Do not recommend.
- I didn't realize how big an 8" blade was until this knife arrived, approximately 11 1/2" overall. My concerns were assuaged by how really well this knife works. Just watch where you put your fingers!
- I bought this knife due to cooks illustrated recommending it. It is as promised. very sharp, feels great in the hand, and goes in the dishwasher. once I got this I knew just how dull my other knives had become!
- This is the best knife I have ever used. Its extremely sharp and lightweight and doesn't cost a bomb. The cutting is butterly smooth and there's absolultely no strain or effort needed on your part. I finally found the perfect knife. So folks , if you are still thinking of buying one, hesitate no more, just go ahead and buy it. You won't regret it.
