  1. I got the knives to go with the new flatware. I went with a name I trusted and they are great.

  2. These knives are a great value, i have had an original set for over 10 years and they remain sharp. One piece design so they are great for the dishwasher too

  3. J.A. Henckels International Stainless Steel 8-Piece Steak Knife Set
Excellant set.Well balanced. Cuts effortlessly. I saw some comments about the handle being too small on this set. I wear XXL size gloves and was a little apprehensive about the comments on the size. I do not think it is an issue at all. I am very happy and comfortable with this set.

  4. I got this steak knife set to go with a 45 piece flatware set from JA Henckels and was not disappointed. I am extremely happy I purchased this set along with the Henckels flatware set and both sets should last for decades. The knives are sharp, have a sold feel, look great, and are reasonably priced as it appears this set will provide years of cutting meat with ease. I highly recommend this set and thoroughly enjoy them myself. After friends have used them they usually ask where I got these because they are so impressed with the solid feel and ease in cutting meat they want a set of their own. If you get the woodblock too they look great on the counter.

  5. The steaks knives are bright stainless steel and tolerate dishwasher use. The cutting edge is sharp and effective. The quality, appearance and style of this knife set is very high. The price is a bragain. I would highly recommend for anyone on a meat diet.

  1. This is a well-balanced set of knives and a good value for the money. They are rather sharp and hold their edge very well. I have not had the opportunity to sharpen them yet to see how difficult that process is. My experience with other Victorinox knives suggests that sharpening will be an easy process.

  2. R.H. Forschner by Victorinox 3-Piece Fibrox Chef's Set, Molded Handles.
I just got mine and love 'em! I've been through a few bargain knives; most recently low-end Henkles; the blades were thin, badly sized, and didn't stay sharp long. I expected a little better but was pleasantly surprised! The look of them is professional but basic, not a showy knife, but they are much better than anything I've seen retail at comparable prices. They're an excellent weight and above par materials. I used all three knives immediately and they performed extremely well. The handles fit the hand comfortably and knuckles never knock the cutting board. The material of the handles is excellent. When cooking, my hands are damp but my grip stayed secure. Vegetables practically slid apart and the slicing knife cut bread with no tearing. I have never found knives at this price point that are this quality. The 10" chef's knife in the three piece set is bigger than might be necessary in many homes, but it's fine for me and a minor complaint. Besides, although substantial, it's not as heavy as a forged knife would be and that's a good thing. I couldn't have gotten the desired pieces individually at this price so I have no complaints except that I wish the line was available locally!

  3. Great choice for quality and value. I wish I had gotten this set years ago!

  4. These are for gifts. I have some of these knives and they are wonderful.

  5. My husband likes to cook and complained about our knives for years. So, I bought these for our 20th anniversary. When they arrived, I thought they looked huge and scary and almost sent them back. Good that I didn't . . . he loves them. Even more surprising, I summoned my courage and used them. What a revelation! You don't work to slice anything . . . the blade just gently touches an object and, voila, it's instantly effortlessly cut. These knives just feel so right in your hand and make food prep so easy. Should have listened to my hubby years sooner.

  1. So far this has been a great set. I like each individual knife - they are definitely very sharp so far. I like the style and design of the knife set. The wooden block is a little big for me, but otherwise it is very nice. In time we will see how well they sharpen and how well the 'rubber' like handles hold up. (that was my only concern)

  2. I am very satified with the Oxo knives. I agree with the reviewer who said the set's only fault is that it is missing the small chef's knife, which I did order to fill one of the empty slots in the block. The scissors slot will accomodate any type of scissors. I use it to hold my kitchen shears. I do hand wash the knives, dry them thoroughly with a dish towel, and return them to the block immediately.

  3. These Oxo knives are wonderful!! I've been cooking for more than 20 years and have tried several knives. These are actually the ones I like the best. They are comfortable in the hand with a contour grip. If you use the sharpening steel as directed, they stay very sharp, be careful. I could not be happier with this purchase and recommend these knives to everyone!!!! Don't look any further, this is a great deal and a great product!!

  4. Great value for the price. Realistically, you are going to pay several, several times more for better quality. These are stamped, but high end stamped, which is probably better than low end forged. Decent block, with room for three more knives not included in the set, but not necessary. Would be excellent for new homeowner or newlyweds who need decent quality knives for daily use, and are not snobby.

  5. I always read reviews on Amazon before I make a purchase. I am glad that I went with this kife block set by Oxo. The knives are very sharp for your typical home cooking. They are comfortable to hold and seem to be very sturdy. I had read that there are a few empty slots in the block, so I additionally had purchased the 6-in. Chef's knife and the 6 1/2-in. Santoku knife with my order. I placed a pair of kitchen shears that I alread have, in the bottom slot. So, I have a full set of very nice knives. I also purchased the 'Furi Ozitech Diamond Fingers Pro Knife Sharpener' after reading reviews about it. It easy for me to use and works really well on the knives.

  1. It may be Henckels, but they are cheap and they rust. Save up for a couple of higher end Henckels that will last. And don't put them in the dishwasher!

  2. Excellent knives, I bought 2 sets, they resist very well ti being washed in the dishwasher, I am thinking of buying another set. I would recommend it to anyone.

  3. I had these knives from like 10 years ago throughout the years I had lost a few, purchased the same knife and the old ones are just as sharp as the new ones they
    never dull Love them.

  4. I had purchased a set of 4 of these knives several years ago - and they were the only ones that I had owned that actually stayed sharp and did not separate from their handles. These are an excellent value - would recommend them to anyone!

  5. What do you ask from a steak knife?
    It must cut.
It must be easy to wash.
This set of knives does both and at about thirty bucks!
For the money you can't go wrong with these. Granted, they are not for your formal place setting, but for every day use they are more than adequate. They are not only sharp but are also dishwasher safe.
You can't go wrong with these.

  1. These knives are an excellent value. I read several of the product reviews before I purchased these knives and found the reviews to be right on the mark. The company, J. A. Henckels, is well respected and the product lives up to their excellent reputation.

  2. This knife set is great! It is a good deal for the money, and am very satisfied with it.

  3. don't waste your time or money on this garbage. glad i only spent 10$ on mine, i only wasted 9.99$. the single taper on them drives to one side never letting you cut an even slice of anything. try to cross cut a pound of bacon and all you get is the teeth-like serrations all clogged up, making the knife as useful as a baseball bat. no knife stays sharp, simply get a nice sharpener and a good knife, or just go out to eat.

  4. Amazon's product description states:

    Product Dimensions: 15.4 x 8.9 x 5.3 inches

I was concerned that because of the stated height it wouldn't easily fit under the light above the kitchen counter. But I figured that for the price I'd take a chance and find someplace else to put it.

However, the actual size is: 3.75" wide, 7.25" deep, and only 11" to the top of the top knife handle.

It's on the counter under the cabinet under the light, and there's plenty of room to grab that large handle top knife!

I've only had the set for three days, but so far although not impressive it seems to be quite sufficient for the purpose and good value for money.

  5. Not a high end quality knife set at all, and the knife block is not fitted to the knife set very well. On the other hand the set is sharp, and well rounded variety of knifes.

  1. I've had mine for a little over a year now. They were very sharp when new, but actually did start getting dull recently. The santoku is the worst of the bunch. Flimsy and with a traditional blade, it got dull after just a few uses. The shears cracked and fell apart last month. The steak knives are still great for that purpose. And I managed to find a cheap infomercial sharpener that restored a little life to the rest of the blades.
I guess all in all, that's a pretty negative review. But considering the price, I'm very satisfied. I never wanted the stress and expense of having to take care of a truly good set of knives. I'd buy these again without hesitation.

  2. Just a few things to add here. I bought these with some pots and pans {T-Fal} so I received the free shipping rate and it still got here in 5 days!!

    This is a Super Sharp Set of Blades! Because they are rather thin they cut thru anything all the easier! I bought a set with much thicker blades about 2 years ago and out of the box they were "as dull as dish water!!" {not the case with these puppies!}
I even spent extra $$ to have them sharpened and they were still a BIG Disappointment! So finally when I saw these, the Ginsu name and the great little price, I went for it and I'm very pleased!

PS. one does not need a big heavy steak knife to cut ones New Yorker... only a sharp knife!

  3. At first I was hesitant to buy this due to the low price but after reading the reviews i was convinced. We have had this for the past 6 months and they work perfect. they are very sharp and might even cut your finger if you are not careful. they cut like butter through every food we throw at it. vegetables cut paper thin, scissors cut through chicken bones with ease. dont recommend washing in dishwaher as the handles may discolor. i always hand wash them and they turn our perfect. i highly recommend this as it works just as good as any italian or french european type of knife. i always read many reviews prior to buying and this product has not let me down yet so i give it my seal of approval.

  4. These are fantastic knifes for the money. You would have to spend a lot more for knifes of this quality. they are extremly sharp, and have a good solid feel to them. They would complement any countertop.

  5. I bought ours 3 years ago and they are still sharpe. I wouldn't know how they work on meat since we are vegetarians, but they cut fruit and vegies with ease. I have since bought 2 other sets for family members as gifts because all they loved them when at our house. If you don't like the block, then buy another or store them in a drawer. Very Happy for 3 years running!

  1. The knives are good looking, sharp and wash well in the dishwasher. I am totally satisfied.

  2. My friend is impressed with the knife set. The wife seems to think the gift wrapping was nice. I've seen them using it so It can't be all bad.

  3. I was skeptical at first, but after a few weeks of owning this knife set, I can honestly say I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Top notch quality, and very sharp right out of the box. I like the variations of the length of the knives included and the black case with stainless steel look fantastic in my kitchen. Highly recommend!

  4. I bought a set of ginsu knives back when they first started their infomercials. Those knives today, are sharper than the new 14-piece set I received. The new set was clearly designed for decoration only, and ginsu should be ashamed to put their name on them. As usual, Amazon was superb in their handling of my order.

  5. I wanted a good set of knives that did not have wooden handles and would hold-up well in the dishwasher - this set is it!! The knives are very sharp and well balanced, with just enough specialty ones for my use (not a gourmet cook). The block is attractive and fits all of the pieces well. I've been using them for several months now and have yet to have any problems with them - even when washing them in the dishwasher. Plus, the set looks great in my kitchen with stainless/black appliances.

  1. Got these as a gold box deal, and for $70 these are the best set of knives I have owned. All of them are extremely sharp, my old set, which was way more expensive, doesn't hold a candle to this. Block is a tad bit rough, cut-outs for knives not perfect, but overall a very good deal.

  1. My son collects knives, is knowledgeable about knives so when I told him I wanted a set of kitchen knives for Christmas, he was careful what set he bought. He was looking for full tang, forged steel that could easily be sharpened so he didn't want a lot of serated blades. This Kitchen Aid set is what he bought me. I love it. The separate block for the steak knives can be set on the table during dinner. The knives are well balanced and easy to use. I don't know anything about knives. With these, I don't need to.

  2. This is an excellent cutlery set for the price. I didn't need the steak knives but for the price I'll take them as freebies.
The one bad rating that I saw seems odd to me since I was able to cut through the breastbone of a full size turkey breast with the large chef knife the other day - there was no bending. "the right tool for the right job" is a sound idea.
The only tiny problem I have was that there is nowhere to put the bonus Santoku knife they sent with the set.

  3. Got this set on May 26, 2008 via the "TODAY's Deals" section and I am so glad I jumped on it! The price was great at 69.99 and the quality is excellent! Much Better than what I expected.
I would Highly recommend this product.

  4. For very little money this set of knives is decent, but please don't ignore the warning not to put them in the dishwasher. I assume the grit in dishwaher detergent may make the knives less sharp.

  1. This knifes are great, but as i work with them in the kithen i noticed that are to short..i will probably get the 10 inchi one.. when chopping a lot of stuf at once bigger is better. Never the less nice blade.

  2. My wife wanted these knives for a while. I surprised her with them recently. We both think they are terriific. The blades are as sharp as scalpels and the OZI sharpener we added to the order is a remarkable device. It put a razor sharp edge on all of our older knives much better than the electric sharpener we have been using for a few years. All in all - well work the investment.

Be sure to hand wash and dry to avoid any blade wear and potential for rust.

    Highly recommended!

  3. My wife loves these knives, they very light for her to use and she is happy with them.

  4. This isn't so much a review of the knife as it is of the user. If you are not used to using high quality knives like this, you may want to think twice. As the other reviewer has stated 'it's not a knife, it's a big razor blade', I found this to be true the hard way. I was slicing an onion and 'touched' my fingertip with the edge of the blade, and I nearly cut all the way through. Almost no pressure was involved. It scared me terribly and resulted in a trip to the hospital. No stitches, thankfully, but I did get a pressure dressing. Since then my finger has knit together. I can see clearly where it also cut though my fingernail.
These knives are simply TOO sharp for the average uninformed consumer. The fault lies with me for not taking the other reviews seriously. I've never encountered something so dire before. So be careful. If you are like my husband, who likes these knives because of their weight and construction, these may be for you. But if you are looking for a shortcut for dicing up onions or other lightweight tasks - get something else.

  5. Bought these as a gift and the recipient loves them! They make quick work of chopping up your veggies.
