  1. unfortunately, my idiot brother put it in the dishwasher while he was visiting so I have to buy a new one. only wash it off with some soap and water. otherwise it gets scratched up and ruined. but i am buying this knife again. properly cared for, it is very sharp, great for cutting meat and also sushi rolls, and so cute!

  2. It's sharp and pretty. Don't be fooled. It's not a toy or dull.

  3. Don't let the low price throw you; this is a well balanced knife that is really sharp and holds an edge very well. I liked it so much that I bought one of every style.

  4. What a fun knife but so functional. This is my favorite knife for tomatoes. I can slice them paper thin or thick and chopping is a breeze. I would recomend this knife to everyone!!

  5. Okay okay so I have to admit that the color was the first thing that caught my eye with this knife. I was shopping at Zabars, one of my favorite stores, and the Komachi collection stood out amongst a field over dark and silver cutlery. I am in between buying serious knives from Global and Shun which aren't something I want to spend all my money on at the moment so I thought this would be a nice filler while I ponder which knife set I truly want.

This knife is apparently set to be a meat cutting one, and even thought I am starting to prefer the santoku design ( with the little eclipse indentations towards the bottom - this one isn't )because of their ability not to have anything you cut stick to the blade, I think it's little funny that this cannot simply be called an all purpose knife. I cut veggies and meat with it, and the sharpness diminished a little bit but not really because I have been cutting something extremely hard, a tomato for example wasn't yielding too quickly but in the end this blade did a decent job of cutting thought the skin.

Overall this is a cheap, lightweight and cute looking knife, the clear handle is very comfortable and the blade is always easy to find since the color is so unusual. I recommend gentle washing in favor of not disturbing the sharp edge, only one side is sharpened and it seems to get dulled a little if not handled gingerly.

  1. This is the knife I reach for most often. I have two other full size chef knives, plus a smaller chef knife of another brand. But this one feels the best in my hand, doesn't slip, and goes into the dishwasher with ease. It is great for small and medium chopping jobs, which is generally the case for my small family. I have used it for a year and it retains its sharpness with a few passes of a ceramic knife sharpener.

  2. I bought several Oxo knives from Amazon. They are well balanced and very sharp. I keep them sharp with a ceramic sharpener. I have 2 professional knives that I spent over $50 each for and these knives do not perform any better than the Oxo knives. I love every Oxo kitchen product I've ever bought.

  3. I bought this knife as I wanted a smaller chef's knife, and wasn't in the mood to cough up $50 - $70 for a Henckels. Much to my surprise, I really prefer the feel of this knife in my hand to the feel of my Henckels (I have a set of Henckels Gourmet - not top of the line, but not the cheapest either).

I have used the Oxo for six months, and it remains sharp. I hand-wash and dry it every time I use it, and run it through my ceramic knife sharpener a couple of times before putting it back in the block. I will not hesitate to buy more Oxo knives. The blade seems quite good, and the balance and comfort-level is excellent.

  4. I purchased this to go with the 'Oxo Good Grips Professional 14-Piece Knife Block Set' that I also purchased on the same day. I'm glad I ordered it because I find myself reaching for a smaller knife many times! :) It works great in a home kitchen!

  5. This is an amazing knife in general, works great and is very comfortable to hold. I have nerve damage in my right hand from an accident and this is the first knife that I've bought which I can hold comfortably and in which the handle grip doesn't cause me any pain. Highly recommended!

  1. I bought this knife recently as a work knife at my job. I am a professional chef and I am experienced and well educated on cutlery. This is the second ceramic knife I have bought, the first was dropped by a co-worker and that knife shattered. I love working with ceramic knives because they are the sharpest knives around, period. Nothing is sharper. It glides through food. It requires a bit more care, but if you take good care if it ,it will last a lifetime. This knife is very versitile in the 7" model and very resonably priced. Perfect for meat and fish, slicing, fruit and vegatables. I can cut perfect slices, juliannes, and very fine dice. I laugh when I hear people talk about " my shun knife" or the extremely over-rated "my henckels". They are good all right but very expensive and they will NEVER be as sharp or hold it for as long as a ceramic.

Now, I will say this knife has one thing I don't care for. While the handle is extremely comfortable and feels oh-so-natural( it actually helps cutting in a mechanical sense by design),if the handle is greasy or oily (when cutting steaks from large cuts or dealing with certain fish it can get oily from handeling) it becomes slippery. Not good for a knife as razor sharp as this. Just keep it clean, protect it from abuse and you will have a knife like no other for alooooong time. In a home I suspect it will not be subject to the rigors I put it through, therefore this knife is a great value for the home chef. I would put this knife up against Shun or Henckles or Wusthof any day.

  2. I'm not a professional chef.........I just have a bad case of "chef envy". Recently got this knife based on the chef's recommendation - LOVE it. Extremely sharp, as are all the Kyocera knives. Very well balanced and comfortable to use. I have a full set of top of the line Henckels - love them too - but I find myself reaching for the Kyoceras for most jobs because of their sharpness. This knife allows you to slice through large onions and get really thin slices with ease. Goes through meats like butter. This 7" knife is a new addition to the Kyocera line, and I'm glad they added it. The Revolution blade is a little heftier - and the black blade is very cool looking.

Don't be fooled by cheaper imitations - if you're going ceramic, go Kyocera. I was given a less expensive starter set from Linens N Things. They weren't Kyocera - and they were a disappointment and waste of money.

In my opinion, this knife, a paring knife, and 5" slicing knife are must haves for serious cooks. Expensive - but worth every penny. In the case of Kyocera, you get what you pay for - top quality.

  3. This is my 2nd ceramic knife. I like it for cutting lettuce and romaine as it is large enough to cut up a head of lettuce. My other ceramic knife is smaller and not as easy to use on something that large. It is great on tomatoes and other fruit and vegetables. I also use it on grapefruit and oranges.

  1. It's amazing how many knives I have bought and simply do not use. After working in a commercial kitchen for a while, I can tell you that nothing beats the Forschner brand of knife with the Fibrox handle. They are well balanced, easy to clean, and hold a very good edge. This 5" knife is one I use often. In fact, if I'm not using my 10" chef's knife, odds are this one is in my hand. If you are looking to create a great set of knives, this is a great place to start.

  2. I bought this smaller blade version of the 8" Forschner Fibrox for our vacation home, thinking I wouldn't need the larger knife. Wrong. Although this knife is adequate for some smaller jobs, the 8" is much more versatile. If one had both knives, one would probably still reach for the 8" most of the time. Get that one instead, as recommended by America's Test Kitchen.

  3. I have three other Chef knives from this manufacturer and am happy with all. Cook's also has reviewed their larger Chef knife as top notch. I primarily use this particular knife for vegetable prep. I like the balance and the fibrox handle has a great feel. Additionally, the price is a fine value.

  4. I have Knives from most all of the "Premium" makers From Mac to Wusthof.
Forschner is the best for the buck. The 5 inch chef's is perfect for small cutting jobs. It is a killer all purpose knife.

  5. This is a great knife. It comes extremely sharp, it holds its edge well, and it sharpens very, very easily. It has a comfortable handle and it doesn't suffer from any discoloration during use.

In my opinion, 6" would be the perfect size - 5" is just a bit too small for regular cooking use, even though I generally prefer smaller knives generally (although this little guy makes a great steak knife).

  1. I cannot recommend these knives enough. My favorites are this veg knife and the tomato/cheese knife. These are infinitely better than the expensive knives sold at specialty stores. They stay sharper longer and are incredibly lightweight. The tomato knife will yield thinner, more exact slices than you ever thought possible.

  2. I had high hopes for this knife since all my previous knives were cheap. However, it didn't deliver. It is good for slicing things like potatoes or onions, but if a vegetable has a skin, such as a tomato or bell pepper, it does not cut through the skin very well. I ended up getting another knife, and I only use this one on occasion.

  3. I have had my knife for 3 years, I have the pink meat knife that I love not quite as much and bought the purple knife today. I would love to purchase myself a $300 knife seriously, but this is by far the best knife I have ever had. It makes chopping and dicing veggies a breeze and I love it. And for $20 replace it, in 3 years it has dulled a bit, but never been sharpened. Fabulous.

  4. I have a whole collection of these Komachi knives. They are the best, easy to clean, so sharp and great in use. No regrets of spending money for them. Once you try them in use, other knives you have will "rest in peace":) Just don't throw away a plastic package they come from, you can use it as a storage, this way knives will stay unscratched.

  5. I love this knife. It is sharp, lightweight, and fun. By far the best knife I own. However, after only three days of use on fruits & vegetables (greens, onions, tomatoes, squash, melon), it the green on the blade has begun to pit & peel. What a disappointed. I am returning this item to Amazon, and I'll continue my search for set of an affordable, quality knives.

  1. I bought 4 Forschner knives for my mother so I could have some workable cutlery when I cooked for her. My own knives are Wusthof Classic and I like their slim handles and blade heavy balance. The 8" Forschner cook's knife felt clumsy at first with a light blade and fat handle, but turned out to be a very serviceable bargain. The 5" mini-chef is a very good utility knife. The 6" chef knife doesn't have enough blade/handle clearance for chopping and is too long and clumsy to be a useful utility knife.

  2. This line of knives was recommended in one of my cooking magazines; best knife for the price. They have several in their test kitchen.

  3. We have 3 other Forschner knives (8" Chef's knife & (2) 3.5" paring knives). Like the other knives, the 6" is well balanced, sharp, and holds its edge. It may take you a while to get used to using a knife this sharp. You have to use very little pressure behind the knife to slice anything. I use both our 8" & 6" regularly. The 6" is the choice for quick vegetable prep and the heavier weight of the 8" works great on meats and harder vegetables like butternut squash.

We purchased the 6" knife because the 8" Chef's knife was a bit unnerving for my wife. Being a lot sharper than any other knife we've owned (we've gotten rid of our other chef's knives after getting Forschners), she was always worried about cutting herself with the bigger knife. She has small hands and the 6" is the perfect size for her. Now that we have both, we wouldn't get rid of either. The 6" knife was a great addition to our kitchen.

  4. Though lightweight, this is the PERFECT knife to have in your kitchen. It is extremely sharp and an ideal size for everyday work. I bought the 8" one as well but I find myself using the 6" the most; it is thinner and therefore less bulky to use. The only thing I've had to get used to is its weight. I'm used to a heavier knife but the quality of the blade makes up for his lightness.

  5. I bought these knives for my son, He was amazed at the qualityof these knives. They cut effortlessly, and are easily controlled. He was considering a much more expensive knife. I'm glad to have found these.

  1. I've been using a Wüsthof Culinar 8-Inch Cook's Knife for the last 3+ years. It's been a good knife but has not kept it's edge as much as I would have liked. I was also just getting into cooking 4 years ago. Now, I had the opportunity to choose the knife that fits how I cook and want to grow in the kitchen.
This knife is sharp. Very sharp. If you do research on knives you'll find that Global knives are sharpened straight and not beveled like most German knives. Meaning that the angle is very steep. The knife is light weight. Holding this compared to my Culinar is like night and day. This knife will take over all chopping and slicing duties in my kitchen from now on.
So, to summarize, these are the biggest selling points to me:
    - very sharp
    - keeps it's edge longer than most knives
    - light weight
    - inexpensive compared to comparable German knives
    - looks cool

  2. I bought this for my boyfriend (the chef & foodie) for Christmas. He loves it!! This is the best knife we have ever owned.... and it is beautiful!

  3. I recently had a house guest that told me this was the best knife he had ever found. On his recommendation, I bought this one and I must agree. It is thus far, the nicest knife I have ever used.
Of course, the test will be in how long it stays sharp.

  4. I recently acquired one of these from a local store. The clerk highly recommended it for it's ease of sharpening and retention. The knife is wonderful! I've never used a knife so sharp, and this is factory sharpened, not even professionally done. The knife is light weight, so it is more about precession than power. It balances wonderfully, and the grip is great. All together a wonderful piece for any kitchen. I plan on acquiring a whole set as my budget allows.

  5. After doing a lot of research into knives, I finally decided to go with Global for a new knife to replace a cheap santoku I've been using until I saved up for a proper knife. As a young cook in a moderate-volume fine dining establishment, this knife has been a godsend. The light weight and perfect balance making any rote prepping less tiresome and the sharpness cannot be beat. This knife glides through pretty much anything without any real pressure being used. I'll be looking into other Globals in the future for expanding my collection of work knives. For the time being, it's a great utility knife.

  1. It is a great Chef knife... very sharp, light and easy to handle. I am definitely buying another one!!! Oh, and it has the Victorinox brand behind it (you know, the makers of the Swiss Army Knives!).

  2. This turned out to be a great knife! My husband loved it...felt good in his hand...he said.

  3. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST KNIFES THAT THE SHARPNESS OF THE KNIFE WILL LAST FOR A MONTH! I USED THESE KNIFES WHEN I WAS BUTCHER FOR A LOCAL HEB STORE. IN MY OPINION AND FOR PEOPLE THAT KNOWS ABOUT KNIFES THESE ARE ONE OF THE BEST OF THE BEST... GLOBAL IS JUST THE BRAND YOU ARE BUYING THEY ARE THE SAME AS FAR AS QUALITY.

  4. I had high hopes, but low expectations with this knife. High hopes because it's done well in Cook's Illustrated reviews for years, and it's gotten great reviews on Amazon, but low expectations because I've worked in commercial kitchens with crappy knives for about 8 years now, and this knife is very similar in look and feel to the knives I've used for the last 8 years. I figured I'd give this one a shot and if it didn't work out, well, I'm only out 30 bucks. And it definitely lived up to my expectations- mainly that it will not hold an edge. At all. The knives we use where I currently work are sent out bi-weekly for sharpening. They come back razor sharp, but it only lasts for about 2 days before they get dull again. I knew within the first two hours of using this one that it was not going to work out. The edge started going in the first hour. After two hours, repeated honing did little to bring it back. I honestly don't see why it's gotten such great reviews. I gave it two stars instead of one because I do like the length and width of the blade, as well as the handle. Long, wide blades are difficult to find for some reason. But it goes dull quicker than any other knife I've used.
My recommendation? If you're looking for a budget knife, there are better options out there.

  5. It doesn't have the heft or the feeling of luxury that I get from something like Henkels, but it has a nice, rigid blade, decent balance, comfortable grip, and it cuts nicely. Very easy to keep sharp with a steel. In other words, it is functionally absolutely correct, if not luxurious.

For 1/3 the price, I'll skip luxurious. This is my traveling knife for cooking while visiting friends with less-well-equipped kitchens or doing demos (in my home kitchen, I have a mix of Henkels, Wuesthoff, and some Chinese cleavers), and I'll certainly add a few others to my kit.

    Highly recommended for the price.

  1. I have watched Rachael Rays 30 min Meals for several years and am always impressed with the cutlrey she uses and how durable it seems. I wanted just 1 GOOD knife that i could use for all things. ONe nite i saw the perfect item advertised on her show and that was the Gusto Grip knife. It seemed to make clean cuts and looke easy to use. I LOVED IT...SO i am ordering one. Now that I have commented on the product i must admit that I love Rachael and her shows. She is a VIVACIOUS and motivated LADY that seems to love what she is doing. KEEP IT UP RACHAELLLLLLLLLL......How bout some more shows on quick recipes for chicken and ground beef tho......Thanks

  2. I tried this knife at Sur La Table at the Furi demo. They appeared to be very sharp. However I did not like these knives for the following reasons

    1) I dont care much for the cheap plastic-like orange handles

    2) The finish on the knives appear to be cheap. Furi implies that these knives are made in Germany. However they are cheaply "Made in China". Now generally I dont care that much .. everything is now made in China anyways.. But when I am paying so much money for a product, I was hoping it was made in Germany or USA.

    3) The case is even more cheaply made.

Personally, I would wait for a sale on the Global or the Wustof knives.

  3. I really like how easily the knife slices through things. It is sharp and cuts very nicely. I am pleased with this knife.

  4. I've had this knife for about 6 months now. It was a bonus item when I order one of the pans so of course I took it. I have another Santoku style knife that I love but for the deal another couldn't hurt, right? Well this one is much lighter than my original one, it cuts extremely well and while the grip felt a little odd to me at first (compared to the one I was used to) I find that I really like it.
So, cuts great, lighter and easier to maneuver and comfortable to hold. I find it is the one I reach for most often. Win - win.

  1. I actually learned of Forschner knives from my daughter who works for a caterer and as a prep chef at an Edible arrangements store. She uses the fancy so-called professional chef's knives at the catering gig where appearences and impressions are crucial and uses the Fibrox knives at the fruit store where function and performance are most important. She loves these knives and gives them as gifts all the time. She does own a set of high end asian knives but uses the Fibrox knives where it matters....on the job. It's kinda like when those really expensive German hand tool brands claim they are the choice of pros when almost all technicians worldwide use Snap-on hand tools.

I also own a few Japanese chef's knives but love the out-of-box edge on the Fibrox. The blade is deep enough so that I don't knock my knuckles and the handle is shaped so that I can hold it with a firm grip without placing too much downward pressure on the blade. I sharpen my own knives and the Fibrox is very easy to re-sharpen and maintains an edge as well as any kitchen knife I have used. Overall a great value and excellent tool.

  2. I bought this knife on the recommendation of Cook's Illustrated and because my Henkles was refusing to keep an edge. All the reviews say it comes with a "razor sharp" edge. Trust me, it does. I was chopping an onion and my index finger got a little too close. The Henkles knife would have glanced right off my finger nail. This knife sliced my finger nail right off, from cuticle to end. Other than that, it came as advertised -- good heft, excellent feel in the handle, "razor sharp" and inexpensive.

  3. I really didn't believe this knife would be this good, considering the cost. My other chef knives are $100 henkels, and they are great, but I am turning to this one all the time. I really like the weight, balance, and the feel of the handle. And it's damn sharp!

  4. can't think of anything better than this knife. well, maybe a 10" to keep it company.

  5. What a great knife! it preforms very well, have not needed to sharpen it yet, and was super sharp right out of the packaging!

this knife handles everything i throw at it! the blade is great, the grip though plastic has a great textured nonslip surface, and its a great size for most kitchen tasks!

for the price its a great value, its also the top rated knife on the test kitchen show and they use it all the time on the show, this knife and the paring knives, look closely next time and youll see!

    you will like this knife!
