- I own many knives including several Wusthof's but I must admit that this one has been the true workhorse of my kitchen. Its a heavy but very versatile knife that possess amazing sharpness and balance that comes in very useful for just about any task from cutting up whole poultry to chopping up vegetables. I highly recommend it especially at this price.
- This is a handsome knife with its heft and the full-tang full-forged stainless steel body, a great knife in the kitchen and value for the money. I have had this for over 2 years now (gift from my daughter). It has become my knife-workhorse in the kitchen because of its convenient weight, its size; that it is well-balanced and keeps its sharpness.
- I've been getting into cooking and was in the market for something better than the super cheap lightweight knives I've used my whole life, and decided before shelling out triple digits for a high end Shun or something, to take it in baby steps and try a mid range knife like this and see how it goes from there.
This is a GREAT knife for me to use around the kitchen. It glides through raw meats and vegetables alike; cleanly and effortlessly. It's got a good heft and feels very solid and reliable but is also well balanced. I'm still very careful and methodical with slicing and chopping, but this knife (plus the 5" and 7" Calphalon Santoku set) have taken the chore and effort out of it and made it a real breeze. At this point, I don't forsee a need to upgrade to the high end; these knives seem VERY well made.

- I'm not a chef nor much of a cook so I want and need just one all-purpose knife in the kitchen for most jobs. This knife is perfect. I love the feel, heft, and size. It's also WONDERFUL to have a sharp knife in the house!! This purchase has taught me that knives are one of those things where you truly get what you pay for. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
- This knife is very heavy, & is perfect for slicing & dicing. It is very sharp, & will cut through anything with ease. I plan to buy more of knives by this manufacturer. I have a full set of Calaphon cookware, & you can't go wrong with this brand. It has a full tang, & a lifetime guarantee.
- Recently, I picked up this knife on sale at a local store and was very pleased with the quality and value it affords. I have long been a fan of Calphalon cookware and my impression now is that this same quality extends to their cutlery line as well. The blade was pretty sharp right out of the package, and with just a bit of work it was very sharp. The size and heft of this knife are very comfortable in my hand, and I find myself selecting this one from the knife drawer whenever I have a kitchen task where a full sized chef's knife would be overkill. I highly recommend this purchase!
- My grandparents always had quality knives when I was growing up. As I stocked my own kitchen, I searched for the best quality I could afford. I've tried Henkels and Chicago and both were disappointing. I bought this knife and was so impressed that I bought another and also bought one for my mother. It is superb in quality and comfort. I prefer the traditional handle over the contemporary handle. I put this knife in the diswasher and have had no problem with the handle. Great buy.
- I suspect if I was a professional chef I would know the difference and buy the super expensive other brands, but for a recreational cook I find these knives to be supurb. The price is right, the balance and heft is great, and they hold a fine edge. I usually run them through a hand sharpener before I use them, and they are always razor sharp. To restore edges (I haven't had to do that yet with these knives) I use the "scary sharp" sandpaper on glass method.

5 comments about Calphalon Katana Stainless-Steel 7-Inch Santoku Knife.
- I own Wustoff and Henckel knives, and this is, by far, the best knife I own - I use it for everything now. To be honest, I'm a bit put off I didn't save my pennies and buy the entire set instead of pieces/parting a knife set together.
The knife is extremely well-balanced, and the handle encourages proper cutting technique. The edge is exceptionally sharp and retains it's edge very well. This is a definite must for anyone who really enjoys cooking.
- 1st of all, the handle has a weird angle. This is unlike any other knife Henkel, Wustoff, Kitchenaid, etc... Its like 20-30 degrees. All the knives by the other manufacturers have a straight handle. I dont want to get use to a weird angle. I dont like this knife one bit. I wonder who is writing all these positive reviews. Guess what? Calphalon is new to making knives... they are a pots and pan manufacturer first and foremost. I dont care if the blade is sharp. All the santokus by the major brand manufacturers have a sharp blade. Japanese steel? multi-layered so what? The frickin' blade doesnt fit in your hand properly. If anybody gets to hold this knife, one would wonder who holds a knife at that weird angle. Due to ergonomics of the knife and feedback i get when using the knife, I would really like to give it zero of 5 stars if I could. Even the cheapo knives don't have a weird handle angle. Definitly a do "not" buy. Do "not" buy. Even another cheapo from China is better. The gloves just dont fit
- I personally find the handle very comfortable on this knife. As with ANY knife, go to a good store and ask to demo it before buying -- some people love the grip, some people hate it.
I find the weight and balance on this knife just right for my grip, and it holds its edge very well. I'd buy it again in an instant.
- I have two of these knives. They are the best knives I have, and I have a lot of knives. The problem is the handle. I have had to send them back three times for cracking of the top handle. They have never seen the inside of a dishwasher, so heat is not the problem. I would still buy them again. They are that good.
- My husband received this knife as a birthday gift 6 months ago and I've used it daily since ever since. The handle has nice smooth contours that don't hurt my hand. It's well balanced and stays sharp. Now we're getting a divorce and he kept the knife. I miss using it so much that I'm going to go to the Calphalon store tonight to get myself one! It's the perfect knife: beautiful and functional.

5 comments about Calphalon Traditional 8-Inch Bread Knife.
- Cuts bread from my machine very easily and doesn't make as much of a mess as other knives. Price is also very good for such a quality knife.
- very Manly bread knife, very strudy and heavy. Pleasure to use,
- I purchased the Calphalon Traditional Cutlery 8-Inch Bread Knife a few weeks ago and I am extremely pleased with the product. It is a superior quality knife with just one slight drawback. The knife is so well made that it is a little onb the 'heavy' side to use. The blade is quite thick and this makes it slightly more difficult to use when cutting small items. Otherwise it is a very good product which I highly recommend.
- If you bake bread, this is the knife to get. It cuts through all the different types of bread we've made with ease.
- Neither my wife nor I really liked this knife. The knife doesn't really have any "rocker", making it hard to cut through the bottom crust of a tough-crusted loaf.
As we already had another bread knife (a Wusthof) without much rocker, we ended up
returning this one.
(Yes, we're probably just overly picky. The knife seemed to be quite well made,
especially considering the price. And it was definitely sharp.)

1 comments about Calphalon Katana 5-Inch Nakiri Knife.
- I found this knife while browsing on the Amazon site. I have yet to see any reference to a 5" Katana nakiri knife on the Calphalon site. This is maybe my sixth Katana knife, and I really love each of them. I have not had any of the rusting problems mentioned in several reviews. The knives out of the box are the sharpest I have seen. I really like the balance and the wide tapered bolster, which helps remind the user to grip these knives properly. I generally clean my knives fairly shortly after use, but it seems that is the best way to care for good cookware and cutlery. The size and balance of this smaller nakiri is excellent, and it is a great vegetable mini-cleaver. The nakiri lends itself to a slightly forward stroke when slicing and chopping, and it works fine. The price is way out of line on the low side compared with other Katana knives. I have been buying and using them on a piecemeal basis, and I really like each knife I have bought with the exception of the serrated slicing knife. For some reason, it seemed to shred delicate items rather than saw cleanly. I returned it. The first one I got was the 6" chef's knife, and it has been one of the best short chef knives I have ever used. It has maintained its very sharp edge for well over a year, and, again, not a hint of rust problems. Other than the serrated knife, I would recommend any of those I have bought and used, including the 8" chef knife, the 3.5" paring knife, the 9" bread knife, and the 5.5 inch honesuki.

5 comments about Calphalon Traditional 6-Inch Meat Fork.
- This is definitely in the class of Henckels ($80). Solid and nice looking. I purchased 3. What a great gift! It even comes nicely packaged. Definitely not a 'Chinese Cheapo'!
- We have needed a meat fork for ages, but we were always put off by the cost, upwards of $150. When this fork was offered, we said this is it. What a deal for great quality.
- So this is a good quality, basic fork. It won't fit in your knife block though since they made the tang a little too thick at the base. It functions but you'll have to drawer it instead of showing it off on the countertop with the rest of your collection.
- The Calphalon Traditional 6-Inch Carving Fork is an excellent product. The value is outstanding since this fork will obviously last a lifetime. It is extremely well made and matches the much more expensive German made products of a similar type. I highly recommend this item for those looking to purchase a quality carving fork at a budget price.
- Like many of the other reviewers for this product, I'm a knife FANATIC. Unless it costs more than my first car, I probably won't consider buying it (ok not really, but you get my point). I was shopping at a discount store one day when I came across this item. It was around $10-$15, and I couldn't believe it. The quality was so above the price, and the quality looked and felt very similar to my Wüsthof or Henckel knives.
You really need to see this thing in person, and feel how nice it really is. I probably would have never bought this online, without seeing it first. But that's why I'm leaving this review - to tell you that it truly is the best thing you will get for this price range...and come on! Who needs an expensive carving fork anyway?!
