5 comments about All-Clad Stainless 3-Quart Double-Boiler Insert.

  1. I would have been delighted with this double boiler insert (despite the groove noted by previous reviewers) if it had performed as expected. I own three All-Clad LTD pots I should have been able to use it with : 3 quart, 4 quart and 5 quart. The insert doesn't fit the pots precisely or snugly; it slips and tips when set onto the pots. Obviously, this makes it unsafe as well as unusable. Since I agree with some reviewers that the qualty is inferior to All-Clad products produced in the USA, I guess it may be that the items produced in China are not really a good match with the original items produced before recent globalization of the company. Maybe I just got a bad one, but a previous reviewer mentioned the same problem. For an item of that price from a company with the reputation of All-Clad, this is inexcusable.

  2. Very pleased with our double boiler insert. We have a lot of All-Clad pots and pans and have always found them to be of the best quality. The insert is up to standard.

It fits many of our pots perfectly and is very useable.

Hollandaise will never have to burn while using this.

  3. Extremely well made, heats evenly and slowly, and fits my 3 qt pot with a precise seal. I've even used it directly on the burner when I was cooking multiple courses. Love it!

  4. Someone else pointed out that the quality of this double-boiler is not the same as the pans, and I agree with their assessment. The quality of this product is not consistent with the quality of other All-Clad products.

  5. I have to admit -- I bought this insert simply because I love all things All-Clad. While it heats well, the indentation on the inside is a problem. I love it becuase it allows the insert to fit snugly, but I hated working with it until I got one of those small silicone spatulas. It fits perfectly in the indentation and it's the same one I use with my food processor. I made cheese dip over for the Super Bowl and I was impressed with the insert's performance.

I see that All Clad now has a ceramic double boiler insert. I must live in a test market because I've only seen it at one store and it's not even on the store's or All Clad's website. I forget the cost but, you're buying the insert and the 2 qt saucepan as a set. The insert is removable. I like this original insert better, even with the indentation, because it's bigger.

5 comments about All-Clad Stainless-Steel Saute Pan.

  1. I really like the weight of this product, it is heavy but not overly so, and well balanced on the range. I believe All Clad is still made in the US (or at least this product is) which I appreciate. I have a lot of All Clad pans, I have never been disappointed with them. They are more costly than most pans, but I will probably have them for life.

  2. I got my 6 quart All Clad Stainless sauté pan about a month ago and I've been using it frequently. I cook large batches of meatballs with it and I'm impressed with how the meat does not stick, how well the meat browns, and how well the pan reaches temperature and returns to temperature, even as I place all the meatballs at once instead of in batches like with my old Calphalon 5 quart sauté pan.

My only suggestion to All Clad to improve this pan is to replace the long handle (the handle they use with the stainless line) with the longer handle they use with their Copper Core line (when the pan is 6 quarts). I notice that it is easier to handle my heavier Copper Core pieces than my stainless and LTD pieces when the pan is full. And the longer handle should also make it easier to remove the pan from the cache rack when the lid is stored through the handle. All Clad should also think about putting the longer handle on the larger pieces.

    This pan is a keeper.

UPDATE January 4, 2008: I just converted from an electric range to a (natural) gas range (mine is a Wolf). When I used this sauté pan on my old electric range, I needed to rotate the pan while cooking since I placed it over two coil elements to try to keep the pan sufficiently heated. Now that I have a natural gas range, the French skillet's entire bottom heats evenly over a single gas burner. I no longer have to rotate the sauté pan.

One last note. If you have a gas range (mine is a Wolf) I really noticed just how quickly the Copper Core pans heats up when compared with the stainless and LTD lines. When I was using an electric range, I appreciated how quickly the Copper Cores heat up. My suggestion is to hold each pan and determine whether you can comfortably handle the weight of each pan and whether the pan's handles are comfortable to you. I like the longer length handles on the All Clad Copper Core pans. All Clad uses a different length and style handle for their LTD and stainless series than the Copper Core series. That standard length handle does not work for the larger sauté (6 Qt), sauce (4 quart), and fry (14") pans: it's just too short. It's all right for their other pans.

  3. We have tried a lot of brands of good cookware, but this beats them all! Excellent finish, solid construction. Very useful size, too. We will buy more of this brand and type.

  4. I am a big fan of All-Clad (have several of their pans) and bought this pan for my father, who's becoming quite an adventurous cook since his retirement. We tried it out right after Christmas making a tomato sauce for homemade pizza, sauteing the onions and garlic to a sweet golden brown before adding the crushed tomatoes with puree. My father was particularly impressed with the fact that the pan distributed the heat so evenly that nothing burned or stuck despite being left unattended at times. The size is perfect for sauteing lots of things simultaneously or providing lots of surface area for a quick reduction. And the lid fits nice and snug--it could definitely be used as a braising pan, particularly in the oven. It's now his favorite pan and I'm sure he'll make lots of great meals with it!

5 comments about All-Clad Stainless Bonded 12-Inch Round Nonstick Grille Pan with Recipe Book.

  1. The all clad grill pan is amazing! We're still trying to figure out how to use it on different foods and types of meat. It leaves great grill marks and it's as close as we can get to grill in our city living. Would recommend it to anyone who can't use a grill. Also, I suggest cooking on lower heat for longer periods of time, even if some recipes suggest a medium high heat.

  2. We are an all clad family now having slowly up dated our old pans. So tthat in itself forms the basis of this review and that all clad is worth the extra bucks compared with the other brands. If you love fish then cooking on any non-stick pans will not work, and for this value you really cannot get any better! I agree a pan is a pan, but it is an all clad and works wonder in producing the best fish dishes. Luckily, we also happen to get one year subscriptiion bon appetite - the value of this pan is more than surpassed my expectations. Love it and thanks Amazon!

  3. I got this pan last year for my husband. It works wonderfully and is very easy to clean. I'm big on easy to clean! We use it mostly when the weather is too cold to barbeque. It makes beautiful grill marks. After one year, it has not tarnished or scratched as our other pans have. It has held up very well and we are not easy on our pans.

  4. Altho the description states "Stainless" and "Magnetic," upon receiving and attempting to use this grille pan, it first failed the magnetic test. It also failed to conduct any heat on an induction cooktop. But it looked beautiful!

  5. Don't know where J. Bensen lives, but if you live in the northern part of the country, it's nice to have a grill pan in January! I am into the Grill Pan thing, I own seven, 2 S/S tri-ply, 3 hard-anodized and 2 Cast Iron (Staub & that other one from France). I lov'em all, but I give the edge to the All-Clad S/S nonstick, best lookin', best cookin', easy clean up! Just a thought, down in Tucson, AZ, I bet it's nice to have a grill pan in August!

5 comments about All-Clad Stainless 3-Quart Colander.

  1. All-clad is known for their quality and this is no exception. I absolutely love using this in my kitchen whether it be for veggies or fruit or even pasta. This has a nice weight to it and I'm sure will last me forever.

  2. This colander is fantastic. We already had the 5-quart colander when I bought this one as a gift for my wife. At first I didn't see the need for the smaller size, now it's the one we use most often. Three quarts is great size for most things.

As with all of our other All-Clad products, this colander is well made and stands up to lots of abuse. I wouldn't buy any other colander.

  3. When I first opened the box and saw this colander, I thought I maybe should have ordered a larger size since it looks deceptively small. However, I quickly found out that this colander is able to hold quite alot! The larger holes also mean better draining. The smaller size of this colander compared to others I've had actually works to it's advantage - it's easier to find room in the dishwasher for it and it fit's under my kitchen faucet better. Also, I just like the look of it. Very well made and worth the money.

  4. This is an excellent colander, I love it. All my cookware is All Clad Stainless Steel so I decided to buy this colander and have not been disappointed. Although this is the smaller of the two sizes All Clad makes it is very roomy. This colander can drain a pound of pasta (even a pound of lasagna) without any problems. It is also great for rinsing salad, the solid side handles make it very easy to manage. It is made very well and is very sturdy. The cleanup is also very easy. Highly recommended!

  5. THIS IS A TERRIFIC ITEM FOR THE KITCHEN AND IT LOOKS GOOD TOO! IT IS HIGH END QUALITY,AND DOES THE JOB THAT IS ALL I CAN ASK OF ANY THING I USE IN THE KITCHEN,I LIKE IT SO MUCH I WANT TO GET THE 5 QUART NEXT.ENJOY

  1. From the first sight you can see the quality, and craftmanship of the materials. It is large enough for any family. I love the raised pedestal, I can now strain my food without water from the sink getting back into my food. This will be something that you can pass on to generations.

  2. Another beautiful, useful item from All-Clad. Very sturdy and very large so can handle most anything you need to drain. Also looks great. No complaints.

  3. This colander is great and meets all my needs. I love having a large colander for many applications. It is so beautiful I have it displayed on the wall of my kitchen.

  4. We gave this as a housewarming gift to our nephew and his new bride. They loved it. We have had an identical one for about 15 years and we find it excellent.

  5. THOU I,VE ONLY USED IT ONCE SINCE GETTING IT,OR SHOULD I SAY MY SON USED IT IT,S WORTH EVERY PENNY I SPENT ON IT STURDY NOT TO HEAVY!!! AND JUST THE RIGHT SIZE.DRAINS WELL AND CLEANS UP WITH NO FUSS,LATER ON I,LL PURCHASE THE 3,QUART ONE. I RECOMMEND IT OVER THE PLASTIC ONES OR THE BARGAIN ONES,YOU,LL NEVER HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER ONE!!! AND I FELT IT WAS PRICED RIGHT BEING OF STURDY STAINLESS STEEL.

  1. An essential and useful item for the health conscious cook. Fits several size pots made by All Clad having the same diameter but different height. Large capacity nice. I have had my MasterChef cookware for over 30 years and love every piece - this was a nice addition to the set. It can be used for many types of cooking whereas those little pot inserts can't - steamed buns, etc.

  2. I purchased this steamer several years ago and use it frequently to steam fresh vegetables. It fits perfectly into my 2-quart All-Clad saucier, which is wider at top than the 3- and 4-quart saucepans into which it's said to fit. I put an inch or two of water in the saucier, insert the steamer, and cover with the saucier top. I was surprised to see the reviews mentioning steam escaping. I have never had steam escape and the vegetables have always been perfectly and uniformly steamed -- even when I fill the steamer to its rim with kale. I gave the steamer four stars instead of five only because of the length and weight of the handle (which probably helps to keep it cool, I suppose). I agree it cleans up nicely, even if I put it in the dishwasher instead of hand washing it, and it still gleams like new!

  3. I have to agree with the other negative reviews. This insert loosely fits the All-Clad 3-Quart Casserole Pan I bought with it (which I could understand if I were trying to use it with another brand). It being from the same line and company one would think that someone would have tested how well it worked. As with all All-Clad products it's built very well but who cares about that if it doesn't work properly. Someone else mentioned all the perforations are in the bottom of the insert, it would be better if there were holes in the sides as well. I think my artichokes would cook a little faster if tons of steam wasn't rolling out from in between the insert and pan. It works, just not very well.

  4. This insert has been hanging in my kitchen for some years now, and I was recently given another. The new one is made in China despite the exorbitant All-Clad price, though it doesn't seem to make much difference. Both are equally unsatisfactory, except perhaps for draining vegetables, and there are more convenient ways to do that.

First, the steamer fits only one of my many pots --an LTD saucepan. And it doesn't fit it well. The little bead that rests on the pot rim is too shallow to make a good seal even with the pot the insert is made for, and hopeless with any other. Steam whooshes out over the pot rim without going through the veg, and the bad seal cools the steam and sogs the vegetables. The pot lid doesn't fit the insert very well, either, and drips cooling condensate into the vegetables --more sog.

The steaming surface is inches above the water (unless you boil an awful lot of water, when it bubbles up into the veg and sogs them). The steam doesn't circulate well and probably isn't hot enough to start with. An inch or so of water always steams better than 3 or 4 inches --don't ask me why.

The steaming surface is inadequate. All the holes are on the bottom, and kind of in the middle of that, and what steam reaches the top, or business half, of the steamer doesn't circulate well. More sog.

What with one thing and another, no quantity and no type of food cooks very well. Well, it's not too bad for Persian-style rice --the kind you pre-cook slightly, then finish by steaming.

Alternatives? Any folding steamer will do a better job. You can find a nice big one that will fit into your 13" LTD frying pan, if you're lucky. Take a pair of pliers and pull the lifter stem out of the middle (it's not much use anyway). You can get a lot of clams into this rig. Or use a smaller folding steamer in any pan --LTD pans with their tight lids are my favorite. The sauciers have domed lids which work even better.

If you have a steam canner, put a bamboo steamer and its bamboo lid on the plate (the big ones just fit). This makes the best steamed food ever, but it's a bit cumbersome for everyday.

  5. I bought this insert to use with my all clad LTD 9 piece set that I bought a few months ago. I use the steamer with the 3qt sauce pan a LOT. It cleans up very easily, looks beautiful, and fits nicely into my sauce pan. Some people seem to be complaining about steam escaping from the pan. Don't let this ignorant comment deter you from buying this excellent steamer. Steam is SUPPOSED to escape. If no steam escaped, you'd have what is called a pressure cooker. And if a LOT of steam is escaping, then chances are that your sauce pan is warped, which means you aren't taking care of it. Buy the steamer. It's awesome.

5 comments about All-Clad Stainless-Steel Stockpot.

  1. How can a stock pot have three dimensions? (Other sites list this as 11.5" diameter by 10" tall.) I have this pot as part of their old 16 quart multipot. For most things, it works as well as my Master Chef 20 qt stockpot (just not as large). The bottom is flat and distributes heat evenly. The sides are thick enough to hold a lot of the heat. Good pot for the money.

  2. Previously, we have used anodized Calphalon pans. Unfortunately, they don't do well with spaghetti sause and other acidic foods. You end up with uncoated heavy aluminum pans that foods sticks to.
Bought this based on other reviews. It really is terrific. No more burnt spaghetti sauce, no more Calphalon pans losing their anodizing because of reaction to acidy foods. Cleans up great. Any tough areas clean with a little Bartenders Friend.
I like to make large batches of spaghetti sauce, then separate it into smaller protions, freeze them in FoodSaver bags and have it ready in a pinch. My wife likes to make chicken soup in large batches. Stores the extra in glass jars in the fridge. We end up eating large amounts of chicken soup in a very short time.
If you need a pot of this size, it is a great deal. If it's your first purchase of this type of pan, you'll probably end up buying other sizes after seeing how well it performs.
I will be purchasing other All-Clad or similar pans in the future because of how thrilled I am with this pot.

  3. This is not a multi-ply construction pot, as is most of the All-Clad line (including their smaller stockpots). Although such pots are available in the market, they are really a specialty item and are super-expensive for good quality - if you think copper is expensive, you should price out a top-end 30-quart, stainless, multiple-ply stockpot!

What you get with the larger All-Clad stockpots is a sheet metal main body and a bonded bottom. That would make it a generic SS stockpot, except that you also get All-Clad's typical handles and lid, both of which are very good. The real quality pickup over restaurant-supply generics that never seems to get mentioned, however, is that the finished surface of the All-Clad pots - the polish - is much better, which makes them harder to scorch, and easier to clean if you do scorch one.

In response to another viewer who termed the metal "thin", these stockpots use heavier-gauge steel than most generics, and are also made of a high-quality stainless alloy.

For the improved quality of the All-Clad stockpot, you pay a slight premium over the equivalent of the restaurant supply generics. The All-Clad pots are very reasonably priced.

The downside is that these pots can't be used with induction surfaces. Before anyone gets too excited about that, be aware that induction surfaces aren't designed to handle the weight of large stockpots when loaded, and you don't want to destroy your very expensive induction stove! Still, there are times when a stockpot is handy even with a light load, e.g., for browning where the high sides reduce splatter.

For a close cousin of the All-Clad stockpot that is induction-capable, see Winware Stainless Steel 40 Quart Stock Pot with Cover.

  4. Tis stock pot is great! Great quality, great price, great value! Shipped on time in perfect condition.

  5. I bought this stock pot for a professional chef.
He was and is very happy with the pot. The heavy bottom and lower walls allow for even heat distribution and avoids 'hot spots'.
My purchase was an excellent deal. A very good quality piece of cookware for a realistic price.
I doubt that anyone would be disappointed with this stock pot.

5 comments about All-Clad Stainless Open Stir Fry Pan.

  1. I love this pan ....it is so non stick and cooks extremely well. I don't like a larger wok because if you try to cook too much food in a larger pan it will cool down and your food gets boiled not fried quickly enough. This pan being smaller ... does not allow you to try to cook too much, it's great really ! Pricey but i think worth it, it doesn't have a lid . I have a lid from another pot, that I use occasionally and it is fine ,( who wants another lid to store? ) And i do not want to pay for a another lid from all clad with the price they charge !

  2. It's All Clad quality, but the size is just too small to do anything substantial with it.

  3. Definitely not a replacement for a standard fry pan but this is a great addition to your established cookware set!

I love doing stirfry in this pan. This pan heats up fast and evenly, even on my old stove. I really enjoy tossing food in this pan, the rounded wok-like sides really makes tossing food easy and mess free.

Can't say enough good things about this pan.

One thing though, if you don't have a lid that fits this pan I would consider looking at the pan with lid included (or purchase a tempered glass lid from Amazon). I find myself requiring a lid for quite a few of my stirfry dishes.

  4. This wok-like pan is perfect for small to small-medium batches of stir fry; since I purchased it I find myself getting my large wok out less and less.
Like other All-Clad pans, it has even heat conduction, has non-stick qualities without the non-stick finish-- non-stick finishes seem to impede browning-- and is easy to clean. This pan is a workhorse in my kitchen!

  5. I do a lot of stir frying, using one pan to do many dishes. As a result I needed a pan that had non-stick quality for quick and easy cleaning and one that could take high heat from my professional stovetop. When pan and oil are heated to the right temperature the interior 18/10 stainless steel surface behaved as if it were nonstick. The heat was evenly conducted bottom through the sides, this due to the aluminium core sandwich being continuous from the bottom up the sides. The sides are high enough to not have food spill out in the process of vigourous stir frying. The height is also good for small item deep frying. The steep sloping of the sides enabled food to rotate well, falling back easily into the pan. Quality pans tend to be heavy, All Clad without exception but this size is perfectly manageable for tossing ingredients if need to. It also cooks a generous portion for one to two persons. All types(including metal) of utensils can be used with it. This is a solid, handsome and versatile pan with wonderful easy care and use. It is a total joy to cook with and one that gives you confidence that it will last a long, long time.

  1. This is a superb large steamer insert. It is great for large quantities of veggies or whatever you would like to steam. There is nothing like the flavor of freshly steamed veggies! It fits perfectly in the 6, 8, and 12 quart stock pots. I have only used it in the 6 and 8 quart stock pots myself. It is made very well and is excellent quality built to last. All Clad truly is lifetime cookware, I am sure you will not be disappointed. And it is backed by a lifetime warranty, what more can you ask for? Highly recommended! A+!
