5 comments about Amco Stainless-Steel and Nylon Locking Tongs.
- A kitchen that has a cook that burns their fingers a lot.
- It serves the purpose that it was designed for but a little flimsy for my taste.
- I saw these tongs while browsing and noticed the great review. I was looking for nylon tongs, since I had recently purchased a nice set of stainless steel cookware.
Well, when I got them home, I realized they did not LOCK! I didn't thick of this while reviewing different tongs - I thought it was a default to have tongs that locked.
Aside from not locking, they were awkward to use. They were too large to handle shrimp or thin cuts of meat.
After a few months I tossed these for a nice set of nylon OXO tongs, which LOCK and work well for all types of meats and usage.
- They are acceptable as one can use them w/ non-stick cookware. They were the only tongs I was able to find for use w/ non-stick cookware, when I ordered them last year.
They do not grip well at all: the "gripping" parts shift when you try to grip something. They also have really sharp edges on all the stainless steel parts. I expected a better quality from the Amco brand. BTW, the locking mechanism works just the opposite than most other "regular" tongs I have used + the mechanism also unexpectedly disengages by itself...
- After purchasing this quite a while ago from Amazon and after almost daily use since then :::
[1] It's THE SAFEST utensil that this older, rather unsteady, & quite short woman has found so far to handle ANY hot foods cooking on any flat surface. -- Just for one example : I oven-char many veggies before using in a recipe : eggplant, tomatoes, garlic, onions, etc. The idea is to blacken & blister the veggies' skin all over under the oven broiler, so it then comes off very easily after a brief icewater bath. -- For me, it's better if I can rotate the veggies while they're still under the broiler, rather than having to pull the broiler pan in & out to do it. Well, before I tried these tongs it was always either my oven mitt or ME, not the veggies, which got the most charring-blackening-blistering during the rotating process! [2] In answer to a previous reviewer's difficulty using the tongs with regular metal (not nonstick) pans: We have sets of both types of pans. These tongs WILL work perfectly with regular metal pans IF you apply a very light spray or coating of some sort on the pan. -- Our choice is always a good-quality olive oil [the Misto sprayer sold here at Amazon does a fantastic & quick job of delivering a truly LIGHT coating of any oil]. However, a very small amount of any cooking oil or even butter, spread around with a paper towel as the metal pan is just beginning to warm, will also do the trick. -- Let's face it, nothing but a heavy hand with a heavy spatula is gonna pry a pork chop off a metal surface on or under high heat! [3] This and especially its shorter companions (which were also available at one time here at Amazon too, not sure if they still are) make very good-looking & easy-to-use SERVING utensils AT THE TABLE, for various kinds of salads, for bread or rolls, for chops or small steaks, in fact for just about anything that's not 'liquidy'. -- The locking feature helps them take up much less room in or atop a serving dish or actually on the table than one would think. -- AND, if you want spoon-rests or "TONG-RESTS" for the business end of these things : Try a pretty set of those shallow long/narrow corn-on-the-cob serving dishes! They work perfectly for either tabletop or stovetop.

3 comments about Amco Acrylic Lemon Squeezer.
- I purchased the acrylic lime squeezer at the local supermarket for $3.99 and it broke after a few uses. So I returned it and got a replacement which broke the second time I used it. If you squeeze to hard or too fast, the acrylic breaks by the hinge. Metal is definitely the way to go with lemon/lime squeezers. However, keep it clean and dry immediately after use, or the paint coating can eventually peel away as mine did.
- I love this lemon squeezer. It is durable and easy, even fun. Cut lemons into 2 or 4 pieces and squeeze them. So convenient and useful. I use several lemons a day now. If without it, never~~. It is hassle free. And you must avoid metal utensils when you cook.
- I bought the lime squeezer, and it snapped in half the 2nd time I used it. uggghhhhh, going with metal this time

1 comments about Amco Enameled Aluminum Lime Squeezer, Dark Green.
- Half way through squeezing the first lime it splits in half. According to a fellow I know who works at a local cooks supply store, they had this happen to about six of them and had to return all they had.

2 comments about Amco Pasta Fork.
- I ordered this pasta fork after using a plastic one for years. And now I wonder what took me so long. This one is strong and long enough to pull pasta out of my tall pasta pot. I strongly recommend this to anyone who cooks spaghetti on a regular basis.
- If you are tired of those plastic pasta forks that melt or become disfigured this is the fork for you! I love the long handle which keeps you safe from accidental burns. It cleans easily, too... just throw it in the dishwasher.

2 comments about Amco 5-Piece Roasting Tool Set.
- The baster bulb cracked for me too on the second use. It is terrible quality. The brush was ok, and the thermometer was fine as well. The rest was useless. Overall, it's not a bad value if you buy it understanding that you will be getting only two functional pieces: The brush and thermometer. I'd still suggest KitchenAid products instead.
- I thought I'd save a little money by going this route, but I should have just spent a little more and gotten quality tools. The bulb, on the sturdy looking baster, split the second time I went to baste the turkey. I ended up using a long-handled ladel to baste the bird. Given that I no longer have a baster, the cleaning tool is obsolete. I had a terrible time trying to get that twine untied (recommend you don't try to untie the twine after preparing the turkey; clean, dry hands would have helped (sure, it seems obvious now)). The knot was so tight that I had to pick it apart with the poultry lacers. The thermometer and poultry lacers worked fine. I didn't use the brush.

- Spend a little more for a metal juicer. This silly thing broke with the first lime! It's pretty, but totally useless.
- Don't waste your money on this squeezer. Spend a little more and get the stainless steel one. The hinge on this one is just too weak to withstand any pressure. The thing broke the first time I used it! Very disappointed!
- ...it broke the third time we used it. We are replacing it with a metal one.

1 comments about Amco Small Silicone Lid, Red.
- I bought these hoping they would work with my Corelle soup bowls. They do fit and have an excellent, drum-tight seal once applied, but they are difficult to apply. It almost takes 2 people and/or 3 hands. I don't think they would work well for soups due to the difficulty of applying. They work well once applied to bowls with a outer lip or rim, not so well with straight-sided bowls.
