5 comments about Amco Enameled Aluminum Lemon Squeezer.

  1. Had previously purchased the green/lime squeezer/juicer &
found it was a tad small for lemons so opted to get
    the yellow/lemon one as well.
My son uses it all the time for his lemonade. It's
sturdy and very handy and easy to use - glad I got it!

  2. I bought this because I already own the lime squeezer and it has become very useful the last couple weeks. I used this item for the first time yesterday and it worked great. I know a lot of people would just rather squeeze their citrus by hand but this seems easier and I think that I get more juice out of my citrus this way. I love it!!

  3. This is the best gadget ever! No more seeds and it squeezes every bit of juice out of the lemon.

  4. We just moved to California and bought one of these to deal with the great little lemon tree in our backyard. It is wonderful! It's fast and efficient with super easy cleanup (I can't see why you would need to put it in the dishwasher and risk the paint peeling with how easy it is to clean). I would recommend it for light or heavy users without reservation.

  5. This will only juice small to med. sized lemons. Lemons with a larger circumference will overlap the sides when cut in half. It is also pretty tough for me to squeeze without really hurting my hands. The cut side of the lemon goes down and the curved part presses the lemon on the top until it collapses and turns inside out. That takes a lot of force, with the handles a good 5-6 inches apart. I would imagine a lot of women's hands aren't that big or strong. I am currently looking for a better solution, perhaps a stand press with a lever.

  1. Rec'd this and the lemon squeezer, both function perfectly and so much easier than sqeezing them on the old fashions cone shaped squeezer.

  2. I love this product! It's an absolute breeze to operate and so simple. Probably the best kitchen gadget I've purchased in many years. Highly recommended!

  3. If you use as much lime as I do, then this squeezer is for you. Even if you don't, it's still a wonderful item. It squeezes the juice from the lime very easily and the metal does not hurt my hands after extensive squeezing. I never thought it would work as well as it does. Once you buy it, you will never need another.

  4. We have the orange, lemon, and lime squeezers. Ease of squeeze diminishes as size increases and fruit becomes firmer. An older, drier orange would be almost impossible for Hulk Hogan to get a drop out of. A small, juicy lime would be a whiz for an arthritic grandma.

Our objections are, the enamel peels off where the juice contacts it most strongly and repeatedly, so that bits of paint fall in your food preparations; the acid in the juice attacks the bare aluminum and causes pitting; waxy coatings from the fruit which build up on the inside surfaces of the juicers attract dirt and mildew and are virtually impossible to remove; and finally, the pin that holds the pieces together is steel and rusts.

Although these juicers get the juice out, we're now looking for an all stainless steel model with long enough handles so it doesn't take a lot of strength to juice a lemon, and doesn't shed paint and collect crud that can't be removed.

  5. Our family squeezes alot of lime juice for our Vietnamese dipping sauce and this squeezer is very effective in squeezing out every last drop, while keeping the seeds out and your hands clean. Making lemonade has never been easier.

5 comments about Amco Silicone Tongs , Red.

  1. High quality silicone coated tongs. Springs open, locks closed. Does NOT scratch my non-stick skillets.

  2. These would be ok but I didn't realize just how big they are. I wanted something I could actually cook with. They are a full 12" long. The handles didn't fit comfortably in my hand and the silicon tips are hard, not rubbery texture like I'd imagined. The tips open to about 6" between them.
Hope this helps someone else know better if it's what they want.

  3. I needed a good set of tongs to use in non-stick pans. Not having to worry about melting the tips is what really makes these great. I'll confess that it did take me a minute to figure out how to lock them. Locking is simply push/pull the spring with the hanging ring. I think you'll like these.

  4. I use my other Amco set (metal tips) all the time. These don't get as much use but working with non-stick surfaces will get these out of the cabinet every time.

  5. If you're like me, you find it really hard to find GOOD utensils that you can use with your nonstick cookware. Spoons are the only thing that are good in wood, and the plastic stuff seems to crap out on me, eventually.

Tongs are worth their weight in gold; a spatula or spoon have their uses, but they're not cut out for universal cooking service. Tongs are good for just about anything that's not sloppy or squishy. It's like having a heatproof extension of your hand available.

All you ever see is the standard metals tongs, though, and those won't do unless you're BBQing or if you cook on stainless or anodized (and you can't poke a lot in either). I didn't want plastic-tipped tongs, so these fit the bill perfectly.

They are a good length. They don't open too wide to be a nuisance when placed on a counter- or stove-top. They're sturdy. They're great!

5 comments about Amco Stainless-Steel and Nylon Locking Tongs.

  1. A kitchen that has a cook that burns their fingers a lot.

  2. It serves the purpose that it was designed for but a little flimsy for my taste.

  3. I saw these tongs while browsing and noticed the great review. I was looking for nylon tongs, since I had recently purchased a nice set of stainless steel cookware.

Well, when I got them home, I realized they did not LOCK! I didn't thick of this while reviewing different tongs - I thought it was a default to have tongs that locked.

Aside from not locking, they were awkward to use. They were too large to handle shrimp or thin cuts of meat.

After a few months I tossed these for a nice set of nylon OXO tongs, which LOCK and work well for all types of meats and usage.

  4. They are acceptable as one can use them w/ non-stick cookware. They were the only tongs I was able to find for use w/ non-stick cookware, when I ordered them last year.
They do not grip well at all: the "gripping" parts shift when you try to grip something. They also have really sharp edges on all the stainless steel parts. I expected a better quality from the Amco brand. BTW, the locking mechanism works just the opposite than most other "regular" tongs I have used + the mechanism also unexpectedly disengages by itself...

  5. After purchasing this quite a while ago from Amazon and after almost daily use since then :::

[1] It's THE SAFEST utensil that this older, rather unsteady, & quite short woman has found so far to handle ANY hot foods cooking on any flat surface. -- Just for one example : I oven-char many veggies before using in a recipe : eggplant, tomatoes, garlic, onions, etc. The idea is to blacken & blister the veggies' skin all over under the oven broiler, so it then comes off very easily after a brief icewater bath. -- For me, it's better if I can rotate the veggies while they're still under the broiler, rather than having to pull the broiler pan in & out to do it. Well, before I tried these tongs it was always either my oven mitt or ME, not the veggies, which got the most charring-blackening-blistering during the rotating process!

[2] In answer to a previous reviewer's difficulty using the tongs with regular metal (not nonstick) pans: We have sets of both types of pans. These tongs WILL work perfectly with regular metal pans IF you apply a very light spray or coating of some sort on the pan. -- Our choice is always a good-quality olive oil [the Misto sprayer sold here at Amazon does a fantastic & quick job of delivering a truly LIGHT coating of any oil]. However, a very small amount of any cooking oil or even butter, spread around with a paper towel as the metal pan is just beginning to warm, will also do the trick. -- Let's face it, nothing but a heavy hand with a heavy spatula is gonna pry a pork chop off a metal surface on or under high heat!

[3] This and especially its shorter companions (which were also available at one time here at Amazon too, not sure if they still are) make very good-looking & easy-to-use SERVING utensils AT THE TABLE, for various kinds of salads, for bread or rolls, for chops or small steaks, in fact for just about anything that's not 'liquidy'. -- The locking feature helps them take up much less room in or atop a serving dish or actually on the table than one would think. -- AND, if you want spoon-rests or "TONG-RESTS" for the business end of these things : Try a pretty set of those shallow long/narrow corn-on-the-cob serving dishes! They work perfectly for either tabletop or stovetop.

5 comments about Amco Enameled Aluminum Orange Squeezer.

  1. this product is exactly what every baker needs.
I would dread grating orange rinds and squeezing juice. Now it is so simple that I actually enjoying use and the flavor is much better in the finished baked product

  2. Pros: It's solid. Great concept, great design. Fast and easy to clean. Much less of a hassle than our electric Black & Decker juicer.

Cons: It doesn't work well. We tried oranges and grapefruits, halves and quarters. It just doesn't close far enough to squeeze every last bit of juice out. I squeezed a quarter of a grapefruit, and even though I got a pretty good amount of juice, I was still able to eat what was leftover - and it was still juicier than some of the non-squeezed grapefruits I've had. I can see where it might have a good application, but if you just want a glass of orange juice, it's not the most efficient way.

  3. We previously bought the lemon-sized squeezer, which proved to be very convenient and effective for lemons and limes. We needed this larger size (which had been unavailable at our local store). We're very happy with the product. Works like a charm!

  4. I read the negative review (above); with due respect, I don't agree. I have the lemon and lime models. I have made a kergillion Margaritas with these. I used to use the twist kind that collects juice in a bowl below - these pale next to the Mexican beauties in price and function. With respect to the claim that pulp and juice get caught in the partially folded-over skin; not so. I tested this myself by fully unfolding the skin and squeezing again - only a drop or two remained from the first pass. So I say: when one is enjoying juice, one should lighten up on the obsessive/compulsive notions and just have some fun. Enjoy!

  5. This design might work for fruit with exceptionally thin rinds. Anything else doesn't turn inside out completely, so the rim folds over as you squeeze and traps most of the juice and pulp inside.

The hinge pin on mine broke after a couple months, rendering it useless. It's certainly not something I would buy again.

3 comments about Amco Nylon Slotted Serving Spoon.

  1. Looks like it would be a great spoon in the picture, so between that and the reviews, I bought it. It is worse than the things I was hoping to replace. Not only that, some reviewer mentioned for the stainless steel model (same spoon, just no nylon) that it is a lunch lady's spoon. The line is NOT. The scoop of the spoon is so tiny that it is useless. When you add the flimsiness to it, they're worthless for cooking a huge potful of heavy eats.

  2. I purchased this because of it seemed strong yet gentle on my pots and pans. I was right. We always are looking for this piece when doing any cooking. It does not bend and get flimsy when heated like many other spoons we have used while cooking. To make a long story short, I am very disappointed to find that [you] apparently no longer carrying this. My dog got a hold of our spoon and chewed it up pretty good. I was hoping to buy a couple more :o(

  3. To have the benefits of using a tool that doesn't scratch your pots and pans ALONG with the durability of a steel handle, it's worth every penny.

5 comments about Amco Spoon Rest.

  1. I bought this before I really started getting into cooking, thinking that it was a good idea to have a spoon rest so the counter doesn't get dirty. But now that I cook a lot, the only thing this thing does is make it so I have one more thing to wash.

The item itself is good quality and easy to clean, so if you want a single spoon rest - I would recommend the item. It's also useful if you're making a single pot meal where you really are only using one utensil - then that ONE utensil can rest here.

  2. Really nice, quality spoon rest with plenty of room for different sized cooking utensils. My only problem with it..and the reason I knocked off a star is..Amazon sent me a damaged one and it's not worth sending back. They really need to practice quality control..I've seen this complaint on many items and seriously wonder if they buy loads of "seconds" to make money...? It's a nice spoon rest however, and worth the money.

  3. This is THE best spoon rest! It will accommodate any cooking utensil -- large or small. I use it every day. It goes into the dishwasher and comes out looking shinny and new. It sits on my counter next to the stove, looks great and is always ready for use. I'm going to order three more for Christmas presents. A truly great product.

  4. This is an excellent item! First I like that it is stainless steel so that if anything gets stuck on it you can just *brillo* is off. The stainless finish makes it very arractive and so much better looking than most kitchy-looking spoon holders. Altho this is more of a utensil holder...its big. Its a great fit for wooden spoons, the heat-resistant spatulas, large spoons..etc. It will even accomodate ladles altho they pretty much rest on it, as opposed to rest in it.

This unit is sturdy and weighty. It doesnt move around or tip when you put on a utensil. I have put it in the dishwasher with no problem.

This would be an excellent item for someone setting up a kitchen, a kitchen themed gift basket, or a kitchen themed housewarming gift.

    It's really an excellent item

  5. Seriously, this spoon-rest is bigger than you think it is going to be. Which in my mind is a good thing because when you put your drippy sloppy utensils on it ... it needs to collect all the glop.

It washes up great in the dishwasher too!

2 comments about Amco Pasta Fork.

  1. I ordered this pasta fork after using a plastic one for years. And now I wonder what took me so long. This one is strong and long enough to pull pasta out of my tall pasta pot. I strongly recommend this to anyone who cooks spaghetti on a regular basis.

  2. If you are tired of those plastic pasta forks that melt or become disfigured this is the fork for you! I love the long handle which keeps you safe from accidental burns. It cleans easily, too... just throw it in the dishwasher.
